The LaLiga giants need to slash their wage bill and it is believed Depay is no longer wanted by manager Xavi.
The Dutch ace only joined Barca a year ago from Lyon on a free transfer but scored just 13 goals in 37 games last season.
And he has now been knocked down the pecking order by the arrivals of Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been subject to a bid from Chelsea.
The Blues have also been linked with a move for Depay, but it is Tottenham who have held talks with the Netherlands international.

And he is desperate to make the move before deadline day.
Antony has effectively gone on strike by refusing to train with Ajax.

“We are playing Champions League football. I don’t think Man United are playing Champions League football.”
Should United miss out on Antony, it’s reckoned they could instead move for Dutch winger Cody Gakpo.

Chelsea certainly looked like they could use Maguire in their squad.
They suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Leeds on Sunday.
And options at the back are light after Kalidou Koulibaly got himself sent off late on.
It means Thiago Silva and Trevoh Chalobah are Chelsea’s only recognised centre-backs, with the latter hoping to leave for regular minutes elsewhere.

French centre-back Fofana has informed the Foxes of his desire to depart amid interest from Chelsea.
He has reportedly already agreed personal terms with the Blues, but Thomas Tuchel’s side are reluctant to match Leicester’s gigantic £85million asking price.
With his future in doubt, Fofana was omitted from the matchday squad as he watched his team-mates suffer a second consecutive Premier League defeat from the stands.
Maddison opened the deadlock in exquisite fashion from a free-kick, but, as the rest of the King Power were brought to their feet, a video posted on Twitter from Leicester fan @stulcfc showed glum Fofana planted in his seat.

Sitting next to his girlfriend, the youngster was unmoved as supporters around him celebrated.

The Northern Irish gaffer, who also dropped Arsenal target Youri Tielemans for the Saints clash, commented on Fofana after Leicester’s defeat.
He said: “In terms of Wesley, it was a young player who is not in the right frame of mind to play at the moment.
“There’s a lot going on behind the scenes, which I understand. It’s a difficult moment for him.
“He’s a good kid who has been great for us while he’s been here.
“But you can’t afford to be around your team-mates and playing a Premier League game if you’re not fully focused.” More

Barcelona have 10 days to register Jules Kounde or risk losing him for FREE as he misses Real Sociedad clash

BARCELONA have just TEN DAYS to register new signing Jules Kounde or face seeing him leave on a FREE.The 23-year-old Spaniard joined the Catalan giants at the end of last month after Sevilla agreed to a transfer worth up to £46million.
Kounde is still waiting to make his competitive debut for BarcelonaCredit: Getty
But Barcelona’s perilous financial situation has left them struggling to register their new signings.
Last week, Xavi’s men did finally register four of their latest acquisitions in Robert Lewandowski, Franck Kessie, Raphinha and Andreas Christensen.
But Kounde was not included in that group and has been made to wait while Barca attempt to raise funds.
Now it has been confirmed that he will NOT be eligible to play against Real Sociedad on Sunday evening.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
That is because LaLiga require the club to balance their books before Kounde can be registered.
Barca had hoped the sale of Memphis Depay to Juventus would go some way to achieving this.
However, talks have stalled about the potential transfer of the Dutch forward.
And Sport are reporting that the departure of Depay alone would still not be sufficient enough to see Kounde registered.

If he is not registered before the transfer window closes on September 1 then he will technically be able to join another club for nothing.
This could open the door to Chelsea who had been monitoring Kounde all summer.
Thomas Tuchel’s men ended up missing out on the Sevilla centre-back, but may be interested in a second opportunity should Barca fail to get their finances in order.
The Blues are also chasing Leicester ace Wesley Fofana and Manchester United captain Harry Maguire. More
