The centre-back held his breath as VAR checked the challenge, but he was able to carry on after the system didn’t deem the contravention worthy of a red.

The Sunday Times claims Ronaldo, 37, was left fuming when United finished sixth in the Premier League last term.
The dud ending to Ralf Rangnick’s tenure not only saw the club miss out on the continent’s top competition.
But it also ensured Ronaldo saw his wages drop from £480,000-a-week to £360k-a-week.
The clause was written into his contract when Ronnie rejoined United from Juventus last year.

And the Portuguese legend has been giving out about the 25 per cent deduction since it kicked in two months ago.
Unhappy Ronaldo has been pushing for an exit this summer despite Erik ten Hag implementing a new style at Old Trafford.
He’s started just one of United’s four league games under the Dutchman.
And the striker could only muster a brief appearance from the bench in yesterday’s win at Southampton.

But Ronaldo has failed to attract a transfer offer from a big side, despite being linked with Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
His best option could be a return to boyhood club Sporting Lisbon.
Yet reports claim Italian giants Napoli could soon make an offer, with Victor Osimhen moving the other way.
United won’t be left light in attack should Ronaldo leave though.
That’s because they are finally closing in on Ajax winger Antony.

But his move to Thomas Tuchel’s side was delayed by Leicester who initially refused to let Fofana leave.
Leicester’s resilience nearly caused Chelsea to pull the plug on the deal.
However, the Foxes finally agreed to sell the 21-year-old for £70m plus hefty add-ons on Friday night.
Fofana was left out of the Foxes squad for their 2-1 loss to his new employers Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers banished the French ace to train with the U23 squad ahead of the game because he missed a practice session.
He was also given a frosty send-off by Foxes fans who sang an X-rated chant labelling him a “w***er” during the match as his exit loomed.

The Norwegian hitter’s already proving he’s worth the £50million that City splashed to bring him to the Etihad.
Haaland got off to a flier by bagging a brace in City’s 2-0 win over West Ham.
His late strike against Newcastle last week earnt Pep Guardiola’s side a 3-3 draw.
And the 22-year-old saved City’s blushes again on Saturday with his first-ever Prem hat-trick that saw his team come from 2-0 down to win 4-2.

Haaland’s triple put him on par with City legend Sergio Aguero – who also hit six for the club in the same amount of games upon arriving in the division.
Only football legend Micky Quinn who had spells with Newcastle and Coventry City can boast the same record in the Prem as the City pair, Sky Sports revealed.
Quinn reached the incredible tally when he scored four goals on his Toon debut against Leeds back in 1989.
And he tweeted Haaland was in good Premier League company when the BBC posted the Norwegian’s achievement.

But Haaland’s impressive feat wasn’t enough to knock ex-Chelsea star Diego Costa off the top spot when it comes to most goals scored after arriving in the Prem.
Costa managed to score seven times in his first four Prem matches after arriving in West London from Atletico Madrid in 2014 – edging Haaland by one goal.
His 52 goals in 89 league games helped the Blues clinch two Prem titles before he returned to Atletico in 2017.
And City will hope Haaland can keep hitting the net as they look to retain their Prem crown this season. More

But he has urged the Spaniard to make a bid for West Ham midfielder Rice.
The England star, 23, has an asking price of £150million but with the Hammers at the foot of the table Morgan believes now is the time to strike.
Arsenal have already spent heavily in the transfer window but some fans felt Thomas Partey’s absence was felt in the win over Fulham.
One fan noted Arsenal struggled without the Ghanaian and suggested the club should try to sign Rice.

In response Morgan tweeted: “I endorse this message.”
However, West Ham are adamant Rice is not for sale and told Chelsea to come up with £150m in order to rebuff their interest earlier this summer.
Rice also two years remaining on his deal and West Ham have an option to extend it by 12 months – though he is reluctant to sign a new deal.

Arsenal may also have to fight off interest from Manchester United to land the midfielder – though Erik ten Hag has signed a defensive midfielder in Casemiro this summer.
Another potential issue Arsenal face is the fact they cannot offer Rice Champions League football.
The Hammers captain has made no secret of his desire to play in Europe’s premier competition, nor his urgent need to win trophies.
Rice said in March: “It is as urgent as possible. I feel like, not only for me, that’s for every young player as well.
“We are really close with West Ham at the minute and last season it was gutting to lose out on it but we are pushing. We’ll keep going.
“[The] Champions League is a big aim of mine and hopefully one day I can play in it and do well.” More
