Arsenal will save for Declan Rice transfer rather than panic buy in January after Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk hijacking

ARSENAL will not be panicked into spending big this month despite being gazumped by Chelsea in the race for Mykhailo Mudryk.Manager Mikel Arteta is still keen to reinforce his squad during the current transfer window.

And missing out on Mudryk has come as a severe setback for the Gunners, who were convinced the Ukrainian international winger would be heading to the Emirates.
But the runaway League leaders will not be splashing out just for the sake of making a January signing.
And Arteta has made it clear that unless the club can find a player of the right age who will improve his squad and fit into his long-term project, he would rather go without anyone this month.
Arsenal’s concern is that having reluctantly offered £62million plus a further £26m in potential add-ons for Mudryk, they have now shown their hand in terms of their available budget.

And they fear that any alternative transfer targets will now come with a similar price tag.
Owner Stan Kroenke has made it clear that there are funds available in this window to bolster Arsenal’s bid for a first League title since 2004.
But any money spent now will affect Arteta’s summer budget, when he has already identified a number of key signings including West Ham captain Declan Rice.
And while the current squad is still short on depth, Arteta feels he has sufficient cover in just about every position to maintain their title challenge without cutting any corners.

Last time Chelsea handed out long-term deal like Mudryk and how it MASSIVELY backfired on them costing a fortune

LONG-TERM deals in football are normal these days but in a time where they weren’t so common, one deal MASSIVELY backfired on Chelsea. In recent times, deals as long as four years are common depending on a player’s age and potential.

At Chelsea, David Fofana penned a deal until 2029, Benoit Badiashile is contracted for seven-and-a-half year contract and Mykhailo Mudryk has signed for eight-and-a-half years.
But in the early 2000s, a four-year deal that was handed to Winston Bogarde backfired MASSIVELY.
A deal of that length was considered long-term at that time.
Bogarde joined from Barcelona and with him came a wealth of experience that included two LaLiga titles and a Champions League, as well as spells at AC Milan and Ajax.

The tall full-back was also a Dutch international.
However, for the cost of £40,000-a-week for four years, the Blues only saw Bogarde feature 12 times.
Bogarde raked in just shy of £8million, which works out at £640,000 every game he played.
It was said that Claudio Ranieri wanted Bogarde to leave just weeks after he took the Chelsea job.

Instead, Bogarde honoured his contract up until its expiration.
When touching on the Mudryk transfer, Darren Bent brought up Bogarde on talkSPORT.
It was previously claimed that the player would commute daily from Holland to London via PLANE.
Bent said: “I think Chelsea have had this before.
“Chelsea fans might correct me. Winston Bogarde. I’m pretty sure, I spoke to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, he used to live in Holland!
“(He would) get the plane over in the morning, get to training, train, get back on the plane after training, everyday Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink told me this.
“There might be an odd occasion where he would stay over. That’s dedication that.”
Bogarde retired just a year after his time at Chelsea came to an end, and he denied claims he jetted to England daily in 2015.
He told The Guardian: “Of course not.
“I don’t understand how people come to these ridiculous stories, or lies or whatever.”
And on his exit from Chelsea, Bogarde said: “They had to cut costs.

Mykhailo Mudryk’s Chelsea wages revealed with £88m signing earning LESS than Hudson-Odoi and Loftus-Cheek

CHELSEA new boy Mykhailo Mudryk is earning LESS than Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek despite costing £88million.The Blues agreed a deal that could eventually be worth a whopping £97m to sign the 22-year-old from Shakhtar Donetsk last week.

The Ukrainian winger was presented to the Chelsea faithful at half-time of Sunday’s victory over Crystal Palace after the transfer was confirmed during the game.
He initially looked to be heading to Arsenal before the Stamford Bridge outfit usurped their rivals and offered the winger £10,000-a-week more than the Gunners.
Mudryk agreed an eight-and-a-half year contract which will see him pocket around £97,000 weekly.
However, The Athletic have reported that is less than both Hudson-Odoi and Loftus-Cheek.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
Hudson-Odoi penned a new five-year deal in 2019 for £100,000-a-week after rejecting the opportunity to join Bayern Munich.
But after falling out of favour, he was shipped off to Bayer Leverkusen on loan at the start of the campaign, and speculation is mounting he could leave this summer.
Meanwhile, midfielder Loftus-Cheek also signed a five-year contract worth £150,000 per week in 2019.
After a loan spell at Fulham in 2020/21, he was starting to get regular action earlier this term before injury struck and he has not played since November 6.

The report also adds that Mudryk’s relatively low salary is part of a new strategy from owner Todd Boehly to lower the wage bill.
Shakhtar Donetsk’s CEO hit out at Arsenal’s conduct over Mykhailo Mudryk – and explained why Chelsea landed the star.
Sergei Palkin said: “It is because Arsenal contacted the player almost one and a half months before they contacted us.
“Can you imagine, for example, to have Mikel Arteta, Oleksandr Zinchenko and the sporting director (Edu) calling you, to have Arsenal calling you almost every day, every two days, every three days?
“Therefore, why did many people around it have the impression that Mudryk was going to Arsenal? It is because Arsenal contacted him and then Mudryk started to watch some games of Arsenal. But negotiations are negotiations.”
While the CEO confirmed he did not make any formal complaints, he did raise the issue with the Gunners’ negotiating team.
Palkin added: “When I met Arsenal and they mentioned they had already talked to the player and they had contacted the player. To be honest, I knew beforehand that they had started to contact him.
“I said, ‘OK, you start to contact him but first of all you should close it with us’. But OK, we have what we have.” More

However, TuttoMercatoWeb claim that they are interested in signing the Swiss international right-back along with Italian club AC Monza.
The 27-year-old Mbabu only joined Fulham from VfL Wolfsburg during the summer but he has failed to make an impression under boss Marco Silva.
In fact, he has only started twice for the West London outfit with his last appearance coming in November.
Now this fresh report is stating that he could be on the move over the next fortnight.

Monza have allegedly identified the defender but unfortunately for them he is “close to Manchester United”.

Mbabu is under contract at Fulham until 2026, with the option of an additional 12 months included.

He previously played for both Newcastle and Rangers but only made three Premier League appearances for the Magpies.

Barca forward Depay has been strongly linked with a move away from the club this month.
Both Manchester United and Arsenal are rumoured to be interested in the 29-year-old.
Atletico Madrid are also keen, having lost Joao Felix on loan to Chelsea.
Depay is out of contract at the end of the season, and Barcelona will look to get what they can for him this month.

As a result, they want Carrasco, 29, as part of a swap deal for the Dutch striker.
And Carrasco’s agent told Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad, via Marca: “The plan is to trade Yannick for Memphis.
“There is nothing concrete yet, nor do I know if it will work, but negotiations are ongoing.

However, reports in Spain have shut down any suggestions of a swap deal.
Relevo claim Atletico want to sign Depay for free, and if they can’t this month they will wait until the summer when he is out of contract.
The club are also claimed to be willing to let Carrasco leave – but value him at a whopping £52million – making a swap deal impossible.
Carrasco has scored four goals and provided two assists in 23 games this campaign for Atletico.
Depay on the other hand has one goal in just four appearances all season. More

Newcastle make James Maddison transfer their No1 priority as Eddie Howe goes back in for Leicester star

NEWCASTLE have made James Maddison their No1 transfer priority, according to reports. The Magpies tried to sign the playmaker last summer with bids of £40million and £45m.

However, Maddison stayed put at Leicester and has been in red-hot form this season with seven goals and four assists earning him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England World Cup squad.
But the 26-year-old has not played since November 12 due to problems with his knee and has seen a specialist to get on the pitch for his struggling Foxes side.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says the Toon are preparing to go back in for Maddison this summer when he moves into the final 12 months of his King Power contract.
Asked about Newcastle’s links with Maddison and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Romano told wettfreunde: “I think that Milinkovic-Savic will stay in Lazio until the end of the season.

“Lazio wants to extend Milinkovic-Savic’s contract, so it will be very difficult to sign him but he is a very good player. Very underrated in my opinion.
“Newcastle’s priority is James Maddison from Leicester.
“They really love him but it will probably not be a possibility to sign him in January.
“I think they will attack the Maddison situation again in the summer.”

Southgate appeased the cries of fans and pundits across the country by taking Maddison to Qatar alongside Toon trio Nick Pope, Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier.
However, he did not play a single minute as he remains stuck on just one England cap from way back in 2019.
The playmaker will be desperate to recover from his ongoing knee injury with Brendan Rodgers feeling the pain of having his creative star missing.
The Foxes have lost all four Premier League matches since the World Cup and now sit just two points above the relegation zone.
By contrast, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are flying high with the Saudi owners well ahead of schedule to get the club competing with England’s elite clubs once again.
The Magpies are third, just one point behind Manchester City and well on course for Champions League qualification.

However, their efforts to lure the rapid defender to Stamford Bridge in a £79million deal failed with the player signing new terms at Leipzig.
Following a barnstorming debut World Cup campaign last November-December, Gvardiol’s list of suitors has grown.
Gvardiol was touted as the defender of the tournament, but Croatia’s run to a second consecutive final came to an end in the semis at the hands of Lionel Messi’s Argentina.
According to Fabrizio Romano, via wettfreunde, Man City and Real are keen on the highly rated defender.

However, a summer move is more likely to take place rather than an early January switch.
The transfer guru said: “Chelsea have long been the big favourites because they made an offer in the last 24 hours of the summer transfer window.

“€80 million + €10 million in additional payments, making a total of €90 million to sign the player until June 2023.
“Leipzig said no and decided to keep the player and extend his contract, so nothing happened in the end.
