Rummenigge, 66, spent ten years playing for Bayern before taking a management role in 1991.
After being made CEO in 2002, he oversaw a golden period at the club which included 14 Bundesliga title wins and two Champions Leagues.
Before passing his role to Oliver Kahn last year, Rummenigge also signed off on numerous top talents including Polish striker Lewandowski.
The hitman, who joined Barcelona this summer, scored 344 goals in 375 games for Bayern after a move from Borussia Dortmund in 2014.

He also won countless trophies, including the 2020 Treble.
But despite Lewandowski being the second-top scorer in Bundesliga history, while also holding several records for goals, Rumminegge does NOT count him in Bayern’s top three signings.
According to Sky, he believes “Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and Manuel Neuer” have all proven to be more important transfers than Lewandowski – and “in this order” too.
Ribery spent 12 years at Bayern after joining from Marseille in 2007, scoring 124 goals in 425 games while winning nine titles and a Champions League.

Finally, Neuer is in his 12th season at Bayern and still going strong.
He’s played 481 times for the club and has won ten titles plus two Champions Leagues.
But Lewandowski will get the chance to prove Rummenigge wrong when new side Barcelona face Bayern in the Champions League on Tuesday.
He angered the Germans by forcing through a move to Spain over the summer in his bid to win a first Ballon d’Or title.

However, the only concrete offer was from Saudi champions Al Hilal, although rivals Al Nassr were also said to be keen.
While a move to the Middle East did not appeal to the former Real Madrid man at that time, clubs over there continue to monitor his situation.

Ronaldo has started just one of United’s first six Prem matches this season and was below par when he did get a chance against Real Sociedad last week.
The Portugal superstar is certainly not enjoying life at United as much as Christian Eriksen.
The Dane says his move to Old Trafford was his “redemption” following his cardiac arrest last year.
Eriksen said: ‘It is one of the biggest clubs in the world. It was a redemption after what had happened — like proving you could get an offer from United.

He said: “Things moved pretty quickly to be honest. I spoke with the manager and I spoke with my agent and here we are.
“It was a pretty broad chat with the manager. He told me lots about the club, the team and what football is like here.

But Bruno Lage was desperate to bolster his attack after his side struggled to find the net early in the season and then new signing Sasa Kalajdzic required surgery on his ACL injury.
The latest deal was at risk of collapse when an initial request for a work permit was denied but Wolves’ appeal was successful.
And after completing his medical in the West Midlands last week, Costa is now officially a Wolves player and will wear the No29 at Molineux.
The club confirmed the deal, initially until the end of the season, with a thrilling Twitter video announcement.

The clip showed three wolves on chains walking through a dark corridor, as the Spanish striker tried to control them from behind.
But two-time Premier League winner Costa, 33, confessed he would rather face a pack of rugged Premier League defenders as he made his return to English football.
He said: “I was scared to death. Holding that chain I kept thinking, ‘What if this wolf thinks about jumping on top of me?’ and then the three of them did.
“I was a little scared then. Those were wolves, not dogs. It was a cool experience but not a very comfortable one. I have five dogs, but they’re not wolves!”

Now his full focus is on scoring goals for Wolves and injecting trophy-winning experience into a young, talented squad.
Costa, who will go through his own mini pre-season to get up to speed, added: “It’s a first-class club with very good players who know how to play football and having the chance to play in the Premier League again was the main thing.
“Obviously, the club influenced my decision, especially knowing I will be able to adapt a lot more easily here not only from a technical point of view, the quality of the players but also from the fact that a lot of the players are Portuguese and that will make my transition that much smoother.
“It wasn’t in the best terms possible on accounts of a player’s injury which, unfortunately, I can only wish him nothing but the best for him.
“But when Bruno Lage told me about returning to the Premier League since this a championship I have related to quite a bit, always liked it and followed.
“No matter how much I enjoyed playing in Madrid, I felt discouraged, but this motivated me. It lit that fire within me.
“I asked Bruno not to rush me into things and he was very understanding. He is a great manager and someone who has been doing a great job.
“What fans can expect from me is dedication, willingness, discipline and goals which is what I will try to bring to the team to thank for all the support and all the trust.

“Of course, I’m happy to help [younger team-mates]. I just don’t want to be a pain. I’ll speak with someone if I notice they may need some guidance.
“I’d rather speak with someone when they’re not doing that well because I don’t see a point of offering advice if someone is doing well.”

MANCHESTER UNITED were reportedly offered the opportunity to sign more than 15 players in just one week of the transfer window. After deals for Adrien Rabiot and Marko Arnautovic collapsed in the second week of August, the summer was proving to be a bit of a disaster for the Red Devils.

Several clubs looked to take advantage of United’s growing desperation by offering up their unwanted stars.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, United were offered more than 15 players across seven days.
The club had prioritised a midfielder after missing out on Rabiot and Frenkie de Jong and reportedly held talks with PSG for Leonardo Paredes.
He eventually joined Juventus who were looking to ship out Weston McKennie to United in order to land him.

Romano claims the Red Devils also considered signing Moises Caicedo but Brighton were adamant the 20-year-old would not be sold.
Aside from a new midfielder Erik ten Hag wanted to upgrade on Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot at right-back.
Barcelona, keen to offload Sergino Dest, offered the American while Borussia Dormund made United aware of Thomas Meunier’s availability.
Neither player fit Ten Hag’s criteria so the club decided to use their money on other targets.

That allowed United to fund an £85million move for Antony – but United had to wait on the Brazilian after Ajax refused to listen to offers during that week in August.
With United’s need for a winger clear, Chelsea offered Christian Pulisic the chance to move to Old Trafford.
Yannick Carrasco and Hirving Lozano were also offered up by Atletico Madrid and PSV Eindhoven respectively, but United chiefs decided against signing either wide man. More
