Brendan Rodgers ‘to be given more time at Leicester’ as Foxes count cost of sacking highest paid manager ever

LEICESTER will reportedly give Brendan Rodgers one last chance before they relieve him of his duties following the club’s horror start to the season. The Foxes are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table having failed to win any of their opening seven matches.

It is the worst start any team has made since the Premier League began in 1992 with the Midlands outfit claiming just one point out of a possible 21.
SunSport exclusively revealed last week how Brentford boss Thomas Frank is at the top of their wishlist should they sack Rodgers.
But the highly-rated Dane only signed a new contract to 2025 in January and is in no rush to leave the ambitious Bees.
Leicester know it will cost a pretty penny to axe the Northern Irishman with Rodgers due £10million in compensation.

And according to The Athletic, the cost of removing Leicester’s highest-paid manager in their history is being factored into the board’s thinking.
They also state that Rodgers is likely to be given more time ahead of the crunch clash against 19th-placed Nottingham Forest after the international break.
But failure to beat the newly-promoted side could see them take action depending on how they play and the reaction from fans.
The news outlet also adds that Leicester want to give Rodgers every chance to succeed given his achievements at the King Power Stadium.

Rodgers has guided the Foxes to FA Cup and Community Shield glory, while he also took the club to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League last season.
Rodgers, who was appointed Leicester boss in February 2019, appeared almost resigned to his fate following Saturday’s 6-2 hammering at Spurs.
He said: “I know how football works and I totally understand the frustration of the supporters.
“I cannot hide from that because it’s my responsibility.
“Losing the last six games doesn’t make great reading but whatever happens to me here at Leicester, I will always respect this club.” More

Mourinho is on the cusp of creating history after recently equalling Sir Alex Ferguson’s record of 106 European wins in the Champions League era.
Roma beat HJK Helsinki 3-0 in the Europa League last week as the Italians bounced back with a win following their defeat away at Ludogorets.
The 59-year-old, who guided Romas to the inaugural Europa Conference League last season, has declared he remains hungry for success.
Speaking at the Quinas de Ouro event, Mourinho opened up on his time in management having started out in charge of Benfica in 2000.

He said: “These 22 years have passed quickly, but I want to continue.
“I feel good, I feel strong, motivated, I like winning, I hate losing, nothing has changed.
“The colour of my hair, yes, even the wrinkles, but I want to go on.
“Not for another 22 years, as there is no time, but for a few more years.”

Mourinho also claimed his side exceeded expectations last campaign as he underlined his desire for more success this season.
Though he highlighted how Roma, who sit in sixth spot in Serie A, only spent a meagre £6.1million in the summer transfer window when they snapped up right-back Zeki Celik from Lille.
Though they did bring in the likes of Paulo Dybala, Andrea Belotti and Nemanja Matic on free transfers.
Mourinho remarked: “Last season we did what no one expected, this year we’ll try to do better.
“We don’t have the same economic potential as our rivals.
“We had a €7m [£6.1m] transfer market, but we have quality, passion, many people who like to work together, which is an important thing, and then at the end of the season we will see.” More

Chelsea ‘consider recalling Callum Hudson-Odoi from Bayer Leverkusen loan transfer early with Graham Potter a huge fan’

CHELSEA are considering recalling Callum Hudson-Odoi from his loan. The 21-year-old joined Bayer Leverkusen for the season at the transfer deadline.

The summer arrivals of Raheem Sterling, Carney Chukwuemeka and Marc Cucurella hindered his chances of game time on the left-hand side.
And he was allowed to leave for the Bundesliga.
But it appears that new owner Todd Boehly and recently named gaffer Graham Potter agree that the Englishman should be back at Stamford Bridge.
According to German news outlet BILD, one of Potter’s first acts in the January window could be to recall Hudson-Odoi.

The London-born winger has a recall clause in his loan deal that Chelsea could trigger.
The forward recently revealed he’d spoken to Boehly about being part of his plans in West London.
He said: “When a club is trying to get a player on loan, they always want that option to buy at the end of the season.
“Todd was saying: ‘Listen, we want you back here.’

“You’re still on the radar of being wanted by the club. The way he’s trying to set it up, there are a lot of young players he’s trying to buy for the next few years.
“It shows he wants to integrate the players into the team and help them develop.”
Hudson-Odoi has started to become a regular at Leverkusen under Gerardo Seoane and has one assist in five games so far.
Speaking to The Mail about his Chelsea departure, he said: “It was one of those difficult moments when you look at yourself and say, ‘What am I doing wrong? Have I done anything wrong to not even be in the squad?’
“I would never say anything bad about Thomas, he was a good guy, a good manager. But the first game of the season, it was frustrating. Any footballer that isn’t in the squad would understand how frustrating it is.
“You don’t want to be on the bench thinking, ‘Why am I not playing?’, then it becomes weeks and weeks and the legs are rusty when you do play. The most important thing is consistent football. That’s what I’m getting here and it’s making me feel better.” More

Dembele, 25, was a major target for new Blues owner Todd Boehly after his Barcelona contract expired.
Chelsea were keen on signing the winger on a free transfer as part of their new-look squad.
But Dembele eventually stayed put at cash-strapped Barcelona, penning a two-year deal until 2024.
The France international has started the new season well, scoring twice and laying on two assists in just six matches.

And it’s reckoned Boehly remain interested in a deal as soon as next summer.
Now, L’Equipe claims a move could be on the cards after a secret bargain release clause was included in Dembele’s Barcelona renewal.
It’s believed an offer of £44m will trigger the clause when it becomes active in 2023.
Barca apparently agreed to the sum as Dembele and his representatives did NOT receive a signing-on bonus when penning the new contract.

The move was a goodwill sign from the forward amid Barca’s financial problems.
But L’Equipe add Dembele will receive a whopping FIFTY per cent of the transfer fee should his release clause be triggered – amounting to a cool £22m.
It now remains to be seen if Chelsea do indeed go back in for Dembele.
That’s because admirer Thomas Tuchel is no longer in charge.
Instead, Graham Potter is at the helm at Stamford Bridge.

He likes to deploy two central forwards, while also using versatile attacking wing-backs.
And Dembele may not have the attributes required to play in either role. More

An embarrassing 9-0 defeat away at Liverpool proved to be his final game in charge.
But according to Foot Mercato, the ex-Fulham gaffer’s horror start to the season at the Vitality Stadium hasn’t put them off.
They have stated that he is a candidate to replace Lucien Favre in the French Riviera, with the 64-year-old under increasing pressure since succeeding Christophe Galtier in the summer.
Nice sit in 13th spot in Ligue 1 after the opening eight matches having won just two games, while losing on four occasions.

That is despite Nice boasting the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Ross Barkley, Nicolas Pepe, Morgan Schneiderlin and Kasper Schmeichel.
It was previously claimed how Mauricio Pochettino was to hold talks with Nice after he was relieved of his duties by Paris Saint-Germain in July.
But Foot Mercato have insisted the ex-Tottenham gaffer is unlikely to accept the job, despite Nice being prepared to meet his salary demands.

As a result, the French news outlet has declared that Parker is being eyed up, with his name being suggested by Nice’s external advisor Iain Moody.

Gvardiol, 20, was reportedly the subject of a £77million bid from the Blues late in the transfer window.
Then-boss Thomas Tuchel wanted to secure Gvardiol’s signature ahead of Man City before loaning him back to Leipzig for the season.

After being deemed as surplus to requirements at the start of the Spaniard’s reign, the Wales international slowly started to win back his place after a number of stellar displays.
And the three-time FA Cup champion, who scored the winning goals in the 2014 and 2017 finals, has claimed that he had agreed on extending his 11-year stay at Arsenal.
But the midfielder has stated that the Gunners decided to withdraw their proposal, leading him to join Juventus on a free transfer in a £400,000-a-week deal.
Speaking to The Times, Ramsey said: “It all happened… I agreed to a contract they proposed. Things went quiet for a few weeks.

“I was telling my agent, ‘Let’s do it,’ then all of a sudden the contract was no longer there. So there was nothing to sign or agree.
“It was a difficult start for a few months with Unai. As the season was going on, I was playing more and playing really well.
“Then January came and I had to make a decision whether I carried on and saw what happened or whether I agreed somewhere.

Messi, 35, sensationally left Barca after 21 years in the summer of 2021 when his contract expired.
The Argentina legend eventually joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
And Messi is now into his second season with the French champions.
But things could have worked out differently had Barcelona agreed to contract demands reportedly laid out by Messi in 2020.

El Mundo claims the iconic forward had a list of wishes he wanted fulfilled before committing his future to the Nou Camp.
The first thing Messi apparently wanted was a whopping signing-on bonus of £8.7million.
Incredibly, it’s alleged he also wanted a new release clause worth just £8,700 – effectively allowing him to quit for free at the time of his choosing.
Messi reportedly told Barcelona he wanted a three-year deal with an option to extend.

And after the first year, his £65m wages were to reportedly increase by TEN per cent each season – on top of annual interest worth three per cent.
Messi also allegedly demanded a private jet be laid on for him and his family so they could fly to Argentina every Christmas.
And finally, Messi reportedly wanted a luxury executive box at the Nou Camp for his family PLUS the family of then-teammate Suarez.
In total, the entire contract would have allegedly set Barcelona back a world-record £492m.
It’s added Barca were happy to go along with all the demands apart from the signing-on fee and release clause.
This is what reportedly led to Messi attempting to force through an exit in the summer of 2020.
And things got even worse when in the same window, Barca sold best pal Suarez to rivals Atletico Madrid.
Ironically a year later, Messi wanted to stay at Barcelona but was informed he could not renew due to their dire financial situation.
But it’s reckoned Xavi Hernandez would jump at the chance to bring Messi back, with his PSG deal up next year.
Barcelona fired back a response following El Mundo’s report.
A statement read: “In relation to the information published today in El Mundo del Siglo XXI, under the title ‘BarçaLeaks, los archivos secretos del club, parte 1’, FC Barcelona expresses its indignation at the leaking of information that would form part of a judicial proceeding.
“The Club also regrets that the medium boasts of having ‘access to a huge amount of documentation and emails that are in the possession of the Barçagate investigation’ when this information and documentation have not yet been shared with the parties.

“In any case, the article in question makes public documents that have nothing to do with the investigation of the case and its use is an attempt against the reputation and confidentiality of the Club.
