But the 43-year-old wants time to consider his options after a gruelling 11 years at Anfield.
He left Merseyside last summer and has been heavily linked with taking up a role at Stamford Bridge.
But that now seems highly unlikely given his reluctance to take any job for the time being.
Edwards also worked with Portsmouth and later Tottenham, but made his name in Merseyside as a top talent spotter.

That would make him a free agent, although signing fees and wages would still make a move for Mbappe a costly one.
But there are “no financial boundaries” stopping City from tabling a sensational offer, according to Marca.
The Premier League champions are owned by the cash rich City Football Group, who have turned the club into a force through heavy investment since taking over in 2008.
And there are not believed to be any financial reasons why they can’t make a move for Mbappe, if he becomes available.

Any potential swoop would see the 23-year-old partner current striker sensation Haaland.
Mbappe is thought to be unhappy at playing on his own as a striker, but any move to the Etihad would see him link up at the top of the pitch with goal machine Haaland.
The pair are widely regarded as the two future best players on the planet when Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo retire.
But, unlike Messi and Ronaldo, they could end up playing on the same team.

Haaland has scored 20 goals in 13 games for City, and Mbappe’s record of 183 goals in 230 games for PSG suggests he would be just as prolific.
However, whether City do choose to pursue a deal if Mbappe terminates his contract in Paris remains to be seen.
Real Madrid were thought to be Mbappe’s most likely landing spot until he signed a new three-year deal in May.
Then reports in the week claimed Liverpool were the frontrunners for his signature.

There is believed to be a split in the PSG camp, with Mbappe left with just four allies in the entire squad.
He is desperately searching for a way out of the club just months after signing a bumper new deal worth a reported £650,000-a-week. More

Howe admitted he is making special plans to stop 37-year-old Ronaldo at Old Trafford on Sunday.
But he added: “It is not really a signing we would necessarily look to make.
“We’re trying to provide long-term growth, we have got a longer-term vision.
“We have quite an ageing squad, so we need to invest in more young players.

“That’s a big part of our progression — we need to get the average age down.”
The Portuguese legend has played all but 30 minutes of Manchester United’s last three games — bagging his 700th club goal in the process.
Ronaldo also scored twice in last year’s corresponding fixture against Newcastle, a 4-1 win for United, on what then seemed to be his stunning second coming at Old Trafford.
And Howe added: “It just shows how good his record is, how good his career has been, it puts it in focus again.

“The quality is unquestionable and we are going to have to be very, very good against him if he plays.
“We’re going to have to brief our defenders on the areas from where he wants to score. It’s something we have to be aware of.”
The Red Devils just squeaked into the top six last season, while Liverpool’s struggles this term might help open up a European spot for Toon.
It is certainly where the ambitious and upwardly mobile Tynesiders hope to be by May.
But Howe warned: “Liverpool will come again I’m sure, they’re still obviously an outstanding team.

“We’re very early in the season to make snap judgments on what’s going to happen.
“However, it is very clear that we want to be there, we’re trying everything we can to be the best team we can be. But the competition is also very strong.” More
