Five strikers Man Utd could turn to in January transfer window to replace Cristiano Ronaldo including Goncalo Ramos

MANCHESTER UNITED could go into the January transfer market hoping to buy a striker after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese international had his contract at the club ripped up after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

It leaves manager Erik ten Hag in difficult situation as he does not have an out-and-out striker leaving them light up top.
Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial could play there but it is clear the club needs a new centre-forward to lead the line.
Man Utd need the squad depth with the team still in the race for the top four, Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Here are five strikers Man Utd could go for in January.

    Goncalo Ramos
Goncalo Ramos replaced Ronaldo in the World Cup leading the line for Portugal after manager Fernando Santos dropped the 37-year-old from the group stages onwards.
The Benfica man could step into Ronaldo’s shoes at club level too after an impressive couple of season in Lisbon.
He has netted 15 goals in 22 games this campaign on top of his six assists, helping Benfica gain an eight-point lead at the top of the table.
The 21-year-old only broke into the team last season and is beginning to make a name for himself, but he is still a raw talent.

He proved he can live up to the big occasion with his World Cup hat-trick over Switzerland.
Man Utd were linked with him over the summer for £35million but a deal now could cost closer to his £103m reported release clause.

    Memphis Depay
Could Memphis Depay return to Old Trafford?
He was signed by the club back in 2015 but the move didn’t work out and just two seasons later he was shipped off to Lyon.
But since leaving Manchester, Depay has met his potential scoring 76 times for Lyon across five seasons.
His good form earned him a switch to Barcelona but since the signing of Robert Lewandowski, he has had his minutes restricted.
Depay’s contract at the Nou Camp runs out at the end of this season and he is looking for a new club with a potential cut-price deal available.
The striker could feel he has unfinished business in the Premier League and fellow Dutchman Ten Hag could get the best out of him.

    Youssoufa Moukoko
Remember the name of Borussia Dortmund’s rising star.
Aged just 18, Youssoufa Moukoko is set to become one of football’s biggest stars.
He is already a regular for Dortmund scoring six and assisting four in 14 games for the club this campaign.
His good form saw him earn a place in the Germany squad for the World Cup, making just one appearance in Qatar as Hansi Flick’s men failed to make it out of the group.
The teenager born in 2004 holds the record for the youngest player to feature in Bundesliga history, making his debut a day after he turned 16-years-old.
Soon after, at 16 years and 28 days, he became the youngest Bundesliga goalscorer ever.
Chelsea and Man Utd are supposedly keen on the striker.

    Joao Felix
Atletico Madrid are looking to get rid of Joao Felix.
The club signed him from Benfica for a reported £113 million back in 2019.
However, despite helping Atleti win LaLiga in his second season there, he hasn’t quite hit the heights many thought he would.
Felix seemingly doesn’t fit manager Diego Simeone’s system and the club want to cash-in on him amid financial trouble.
The 23-year-old could do with a fresh start to rediscover top form and Manchester United may provide him with just that.
He would offer Ten Hag flexibility as he can play as a striker, attacking midfielder or winger.
Arsenal, Aston Villa and Chelsea are also in the race for his signature.

    Cody Gakpo
Cody Gakpo has been in incredible form for PSV this season.
He has scored 13 goals and got 17 assists in just 24 matches for the Dutch club and he looks set for a big money move.
PSV have admitted they may not be able to keep Gakpo for much longer but will hope to bring in a fee of at least £40million for him.
Man Utd were close to signing him over the summer, as were Leeds and Southampton, but the Red Devils opted for Antony instead. Since then, Real Madrid have entered the race.

Gakpo, 23, is predominately a left-winger, but he can play as a No.9 if needed.
He put to bed any doubts he can’t do it at the highest level at the World Cup, netting three times for the Netherlands.

He also captured the tournament’s Golden Glove, dramatically raising his stock as a top class goalkeeper.
Martinez, 30, signed for Aston Villa in September 2020 after playing only 38 times in eight years at previous club Arsenal.
The 6ft 5in stopper is under contract at Villa Park until 2027.
But that hasn’t stopped his agent Gustavo Goni talking about possible moves away.

Chatting to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Goni was asked about the prospect of his client moving to Serie A.
He replied: “Today there are few teams that can afford a goalkeeper like him.
“But Serie A, well, why not?
“Clearly aiming high, for the Champions League.”

Throughout his career, Martinez has never played in Europe’s premier competition.
But according to Sky Sports, he may be handed the opportunity to do so by Bayern Munich.

They claim that the German giants are interested in Villa’s No1 after Manuel Neuer was ruled out for the rest of the season following a skiing accident that left him with a broken leg.
While chatting, Goni was also asked about Martinez’s crude gesture made with the Golden Glove trophy after the World Cup final.
He said: “It’s football stuff, an impulsive reaction.
“It’s more important to talk about the decisive save a few minutes from the end. He has shown great skills.”
Villa are back in action on December 26, when they take on Liverpool at home.
Whether Martinez will be back in time to take part, however, is doubtful – with the goalkeeper currently celebrating in Buenos Aires alongside his victorious team-mates.

Man Utd’s forgotten £50m man Wan-Bissaka wanted by West Ham in loan transfer after playing just FOUR minutes all season

WEST HAM are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka on loan in the January transfer window. The Red Devils defender, 25, was told by the club at the end of last season that he would be allowed to leave given a lack of game time.

But he opted to stay at Old Trafford, a decision that has garnered just four minutes of football under new boss Erik ten Hag.
Now the £50million man is being monitored by a host of Premier League clubs, with SunSport revealing earlier this month that Wolves are in the frame to sign him.
Leeds have also been linked with a move for the England U21 international.
However, Manchester Evening News understand that West Ham could be the frontrunners as they have a strong relationship with Unique Sports Management – Wan-Bissaka’s representatives.

Hammers stars Michail Antonio, Aaron Cresswell and Maxwel Cornet are all represented by the same organisation.
And Wan-Bissaka could be a healthy solution for West Ham boss David Moyes as he continues to juggle right-back options.
Vladimir Coufal, Ben Johnson and Thilo Kehrer have all been trialled in the position for the East London outfit.
But West Ham’s form has been very inconsistent and they went into the World Cup break in 16th place with just four wins from 14 games.

However, they will have to fend off competition from Wan-Bissaka’s former club Crystal Palace after SunSport revealed last month that Man Utd will allow him to return if a deal can be reached.
Patrick Vieira would take their former defender back but a loan move is the only way he can afford him – and that will take some negotiating.
Palace may have to pick up all of Wan-Bissaka’s £80,000-a-week wages, making it an expensive deal despite the absence of a transfer fee.
The player will also want his long-term future sorted, adding a further complication to negotiating a return to Selhurst Park. More

It will undoubtedly go down as Lionel Messi’s competition after he led Argentina to World Cup glory in remarkable fashion on Sunday.
And it will also be remembered for all the off-pitch controversies, most prominently Qatar’s human rights abuses.
But there are plenty of other stories to come out of this World Cup – not least the plethora of players who may well have put themselves in the shop window amid links away from their current sides.
SunSport has taken a look at the best possible XI from those who impressed for their national teams and could secure a transfer in January.

Dinamo Zagreb keeper Dominik Livarkovic, 27, showed himself to be a penalty specialist as he led Croatia to shootout victories over Japan and Brazil.
He also conceded just one goal in five matches before their 3-0 defeat to Argentina in the semi-finals.
Manchester United were reportedly linked with him before choosing Martin Dubravka in the summer.
Now his performances in Qatar could see the Red Devils return for him in January.

    RB: Josep Juranovic
Celtic defender Josep Juranovic, 27, was perhaps the standout right-back in Qatar.
The Croatia, who produced a remarkable display in their quarter-final win over Brazil, is being eyed up by the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
But Premier League sides Everton and West Ham are also keeping tabs on him and will have been blown away by his displays over the past few weeks.
    CB: Harry Souttar

This is one not many would have seen coming.
Stoke City’s Harry Souttar, 24, produced some majestic performances for Australia on their way out of the group.
Premier League clubs are thought to be circling for him, but the Championship outfit have now slapped a £25million price tag on his head.
    CB: Josko Gvardiol
Irrespective of what Messi did to him in the semi-final, Croatia’s 20-year-old centre-back is a superb talent.
Josko Gvardiol was perhaps Croatia’s standout performer at a World Cup in which they finished third – showcasing his physicality and skill on the ball time and time again.
He has been linked with a £45m move to Chelsea, but Manchester City and Real Madrid are also in the hunt.
    LB: Antonee Robinson
Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson, 25, was sensational for USA during their high-energy World Cup campaign.
They were eventually outdone by Holland in the last-16, but Robinson’s performances have been enough to create interest from AC Milan.
    CM: Sofyan Amrabat
Morocco’s best ever World Cup campaign was typified by the performance of midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
The 26-year-old has been with Fiorentina since 2020, but could now be poised for a big-money move to Liverpool in the coming weeks.

You do not imagine he will be there for much longer following his imperious displays in Qatar, with Leicester eyeing up a £39m move.
    CM: Enzo Fernandez
The Young Player of the Tournament award went to Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
The 21-year-old came into the side during the group stage and scored a beauty against Mexico.
He then went on to play a key role in them lifting the trophy and could now be set for a move away from Benfica as Liverpool, Man Utd and Man City are all thought to be interested.
    RW: Hakim Ziyech
Hakim Ziyech has made very little impact on the Chelsea team in recent times.
But in the space of a month he showed more for Morocco than he has over two years for the Blues.
Now AC Milan are stepping up their interest for the 29-year-old forward – even if it is only on a loan deal.
    ST: Goncalo Ramos
Very few outside of Portugal had heard of Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos before this World Cup.

And having failed repeatedly to sign de Jong from Barcelona when he took over at Old Trafford in July, he will once more try to persuade his fellow countryman to switch to the Premier League.
The Dutchman has already spent almost £230m in bringing in new talent as part of his re-building master plan.
Lisandro Martinez, who will today join his Argentinian team-mates in going for World Cup glory, arrived along with Christian Eriksen, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Casemiro.

But ten Hag – who has been told that either a sell–out by owners the Glazers or new investment will considerably add to his transfer war chest, is thought to be insistent that United get into an expected £130m fight for the Brummie.
De Jong, who could cost at least £60m, remains at the Nou Camp after refusing to leave for United amidst a war over £17m he says is owned to him over unpaid wages.
Before the World Cup campaign with Holland, he stressed that he still sees himself at Barca for several years.
Yet ten Hag, who helped bring him through at Ajax, is understood to believe he can yet lure the 25-year-old to Old Trafford.
Ten Hag’s spending plans are likely to come at a cost for some stars already at his club.
Last week he made clear that while he was impressed by Harry Maguire’s performances in Qatar, he will still have to fight for his place.
The £85m centre half starts back tomorrow after England duty tomorrow along with the rest of United’s World Cup contingent aside from Martinez and Raphael Varane, who will be going head to head in today’s final.
United could be prepared to take a £40m hit on the world’s most expensive defender – signed from Leicester City in 2019 – if he decides he cannot make himself a regular.
Outcast £50m right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is wanted by Wolves on loan next month and having also arrived in 2019 from Crystal Palace he looks certain to leave for good next summer.
