    Erik ten Hag was keen on raiding PSV Eindhoven for their star man.
    However, United decided to pursue Ajax’s Antony instead, leaving Gakpo on ice until January.
    But the Glazers’ decision to sell up meant Ten Hag was left short on funds this winter.

    And after Gakpo impressed for Holland at the World Cup last month, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp pounced with lightning speed.
    The versatile forward, who mainly operates out wide but can play as a No9, has now lifted the lid on his surprise Anfield move.
    Gakpo admits he was fully expecting United to come back in for him again after their summer U-turn.
    And the ace also revealed he had an offer on the table from struggling Leeds.

    But Gakpo feels it has all worked out for the best, with Liverpool ready to rise back up the table and challenge for honours once again.

    Ronaldo, 37, completed a shock move to Saudi Arabian giants Al-Nassr on Friday, one month after having his Manchester United contract terminated.
    The Portugal icon will become the highest-paid sportsperson ever with incredible wages worth £173million a year.
    But The Blue Testament claims Ronaldo could have ended up at a different club instead.
    It was widely reported that he was holding out for offers from Champions League clubs, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich linked.

    However, the only other offer that came Ronaldo’s way was from MLS outfit Sporting Kansas City.
    It’s believed the American side held numerous meetings with Ronnie’s people, who were impressed by KC’s sporting vision and financial package.
    Indeed, the US team were at one stage “very close” to sealing Ronaldo’s signature, with their offer almost equal to the one from Al-Nassr.
    But after further deliberation, Ronnie instead opted to move to Saudi Arabia.

    Ex-Arsenal ace Lucas Perez pays part of own transfer fee to rejoin beloved Deportivo in Spanish third tier

    FORMER Arsenal striker Lucas Perez returned to Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday after paying part of his own transfer fee.The striker, 34, signed a one-and-a-half year deal with his beloved club after making the move from Cadiz.

    And according to Spanish outlet AS, he was so desperate to make the switch that he paid a segment of his own transfer fee.
    Perez, who has made 96 appearances for Deportivo throughout his career, was understood to be eager to contribute to the fee because he “couldn’t stand” seeing the club struggling in the third tier of Spanish football.
    The Blue and Whites were relegated from La Liga in 2018 after finishing 18th in the league table.
    After spending two seasons in the second tier of Spanish football, they were then relegated again to Primera Federacion.

    Deportivo currently sit fourth in the league table, just four points adrift of leaders Cordoba.
    Perez’s return was announced in a statement on the club’s official website.
    It read: “After playing yesterday with Cádiz and scoring his fourth goal of the season in the 15 matches played between LaLiga and the Copa del Rey, RC Deportivo, Cádiz CF and the footballer from A Coruña reached an agreement for the transfer.
    “In this way, Lucas returns to the Club with which he played the most matches in his career, RC Deportivo, with which he is 4 matches away from signing the 100th shirt in blue and white, something he will achieve in the third category of national football after a huge personal and sporting bet to return home.”

    Perez spent two years with Deportivo in La Liga before joining Arsenal in a £17million transfer in 2016.
    But after failing to make an impact, he then returned to the club on loan in 2017 before signing for West Ham the following year.

    Toon have now decided to end his loan early, the club confirmed.
    Dubravka failed to make a single Premier League appearance for United as he failed to dislodge No1 David De Gea.
    He appeared in cup wins over Aston Villa and Burnley, though was criticised by fans for his performance against the Clarets.
    The keeper twice produced errors that almost led to a Burnley goal, sparking fury amongst the fanbase.

    Dubravka will now challenge Newcastle No1 Nick Pope for a place between the sticks at St James’ Park.
    A Magpies statement read: “Martin Dúbravka has been recalled from his season-long loan spell with Manchester United.

    “The Slovakia international goalkeeper joined the Red Devils on a temporary basis in September and made two appearances under Erik ten Hag.
    “And he will now provide further competition for Nick Pope, who kept his ninth league clean sheet of the season – the most in the Premier League – in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Leeds.”

    Chelsea ‘agree £33m deal to sign Benoit Badiashile’ with Monaco star set to complete Blues transfer after medical

    According to The Athletic, the Blues have had a £33million bid for Badiashile accepted by Monaco.
    The Frenchman has also agreed personal terms with Chelsea and the transfer is set to be finalised soon.
    Badiashile, 21, will undergo a medical before joining the club on a long-term deal.
    He will become the third signing of the winter window for the Blues after the capture of striker Davide Datro Fofana.

    Vasco da Gama’s Andrey Santos is also set to join and only needs to pass a medical to become a Chelsea player.
    Badiashile started out at Monaco’s academy in 2016 and was promoted to the senior squad only two years later at the age of 17.
    Since then, the France international amassed a total of six goals and three assists in 135 appearances.
    Chelsea could now turn their attention to other transfer targets, with Potter plotting a raid on former club Brighton for Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister.

    Reports last night claim Ronaldo could face Lionel Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain in an all-star friendly against a combined XI from Saudi sides Al Nassr and Al Hilal.
    Meanwhile Rio Ferdinand, a team-mate of Ronaldo during his first spell at Old Trafford, defended his decision to make the switch to Saudi.

    “We were looking to maybe make a change at half time but we had to be careful on the changes because obviously there were a couple struggling, and that delayed our decision-making on that. He ended up going off.”
