And they have lost all five games since interim boss Frank Lampard took over earlier this month.

Chelsea set to keep Joao Felix next season despite refusing to pay transfer fee as Pochettino eyes Lukaku partnership

JOAO FELIX looks set to stay at Chelsea for another year even though the club will not be playing in the Champions League. The Portuguese forward had stressed that qualification for the world’s best club competition would influence his decision on whether to remain in England or go back to Atletico Madrid.

But the prospect of a further season in the Premier League is emerging as the most likely outcome despite the fact Chelsea will not make the top four.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone has moved on since Felix left the club during the January transfer window.
They have won 12 and lost just one of 16 games since the player’s departure on a six month deal to Chelsea paying around £9.7m in fees.
Simeone is keen to make the move permanent but Atletico chiefs want £88m for the Portuguese international, who has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea in recent weeks.

He has been on the bench for the last three matches under caretaker boss Frank Lampard.
Felix, 23, is settled in London and happy to stay but wants assurances from the incoming permanent boss – expected to be Mauricio Pochettino – that he will get game time.
With that and with Chelsea reluctant to pay the full asking price for Felix, a compromise second loan is likely.
That would cost Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly around £18m in fees plus Felix’s wages of around £250k-a-week.

Julian Nagelsmann ‘at top of five-man shortlist to become next Tottenham manager but wages demands causing huge problem’

JULIAN NAGELSMANN is Tottenham’s leading candidate to become their next manager, according to reports. But Spurs face a huge roadblock in their pursuit of the ex-Bayern Munich man as he is proving an expensive option.

Nagelsmann, 35, who has reportedly ruled himself out of the Chelsea vacancy, was sacked by the German champions last month – although his contract has not been terminated.
It means he is essentially on gardening leave and is still receiving his £10.6million-a-year salary from the Bundesliga giants.
Joining from RB Leipzig in 2021, he still has three years left on his contract with Bayern.
So Tottenham’s acquisition of Nagelsmann would have to involve them paying Bayern compensation in order for his existing contract to be terminated.

According to The Telegraph, there is a “limit” to the amount of compensation Spurs are prepared to pay Bayern.
And if he is deemed too pricey, they could look to alternatives on their four-man shortlist.
Celtic’s Ange Postecoglu, ex-Barcelona boss Luis Enrique, Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Feyenoord’s Arne Slot have all been linked.
But one of them is now understood to have been taken off as Spurs whittle their shortlist down to just four candidates including Nagelsmann.

Spurs’ managerial search comes amid turmoil at the club.
A 6-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday ended interim head coach Cristian Stellini’s time in charge.
He had been in the hot seat for just four games after assuming the role following the sacking of Antonio Conte.
Now Ryan Mason has returned to the position until the end of the season – a role he first took back in 2021 after Jose Mourinho was dismissed.

According to the Telegraph, the Argentinean tactician is not using a representative to negotiate his deal with the Blues, which means owner Todd Boehly won’t have to pay any agent fees.
The ex-Tottenham boss hasn’t hired any reps and is leading talks alongside his assistant Jesus Perez.
However, the final draft will be checked by a lawyer of Pochettino’s choosing.
The former Southampton boss will personally negotiate the length and value of his deal and thus Chelsea are set to save a huge amount in this appointment.

The former PSG boss is expected to have a strong hand in negotiations after Chelsea’s fifth successive defeat across all competitions.

And fans are now convinced Rangnick wants to follow his fellow German to north London as he went on record strongly advising chairman Daniel Levy to hire a sporting director.
The Austria manager held that position at Red Bull Salzburg, RB Leipzig as well as Lokomotiv Moscow, and was even supposed to work in that capacity at United after his stint ended last summer.
Rangnick told Sky Sports: “If Tottenham really want Julian Nagelsmann, it’d be important to have a sporting director there to support him.
“This is not a club where they expect you to be in the top immediately. So it could be a very, very exciting story”.

Fans are certain Rangnick issued a “come-and-get-me” plea to Levy with that interview.
And a raft of Tottenham supporters are keen to see that partnership next season.

The German is now enjoying plenty of success in the US as the sporting director of St Louis City SC with his work leading the MLS club to the top of the the Western Conference table.
According to Bild, West Ham and Nottingham are keeping tabs but will have to work hard to convince him to leave America as he has big plans in Missouri.
The former goalkeeper has had quite an eventful life that has seen him spend 101 days in a Singapore jail when he was accused of match fixing.
Not long after, the now 49-year-old was declared dead on the pitch when his lungs collapsed following a collision during a game in England.

Pfannenstiel was also quizzed by police over a stolen penguin in Germany back in 2017.
Amazingly that was not the first time the former Germany Under-17 international was accused of the same crime.

The former Hoffenheim scout confessed in his autobiography The Unstoppable Keeper to “borrowing” a penguin from a New Zealand beach during his time with Dunedin.
Pfannenstiel said: “The police phoned me about a stolen penguin. They had received an anonymous tip-off that I might be involved.

“But it wasn’t me. I urge the thief to return the penguin, as this is no joke. I know it well from the sins of my youth.

“But I returned it inside two days after my club chairman explained penguins were a protected species.
“Besides, my housemates were not delighted, as it stank like a fish factory. I did not steal it – I just borrowed it.”
His fundraising efforts in recent years have seen him live in an igloo as well as persuading the late great Diego Maradona to play a charity game in Antarctica. More
