Chelsea target Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel and could offload BOTH Kepa and Mendy to seal transfer

CHELSEA are reportedly preparing to offload Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy as they eye a swoop for Gregor Kobel to replace them. The Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper is under contract with the Bundesliga side until 2026.

The Swiss international, 25, moved there in 2021 after impressing at Stuttgart and is now wanted by the Premier League giants, says Bild.
And they state that the Blues see Kobel as an “above-average” replacement for their two current goalkeepers.
It adds that they have added him to their “wish list” as well as placing him “high on the scouting list”.
Chelsea have veered between Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy for the last few seasons.

However, both have failed to convince and now face uncertain futures while the club searches for a permanent new manager.
The West London club also need to cut costs after their heavy outlay on new additions and appear to be keen on offloading their stoppers to help balance the books.
Mendy, 31, snubbed a new six-year contract over the salary offered – which did not rival Kepa’s.
The Senegal international’s future at Stamford Bridge remains up in the air.

And we reported how the stopper, who has 18 months left on his deal, has been told he can go.
Meanwhile Kobel, who has appeared 21 times for Dortmund in the top-flight this term, cost around £13.2m two years ago.
But this latest report also added that he “feels at home” at the Westfalenstadion and even wants more dressing-room responsibility. More

Man City’s worst transfers in the Premier League era, from flops Boateng and Rodwell to £42m mistake Eliaquim Mangala

MANCHESTER CITY have invested over £1BILLION in the transfer market over the past decade so, naturally, there are going to be some flops. For every David Silva, Yaya Toure, or Erling Haaland there’s also been an Eliaquim Mangala or Jack Rodwell.
Three great signings out of four weren’t bad for Roberto ManciniCredit: EPA
Fortunately for current boss Pep Guardiola, most of the club’s most useless transfers came before the Spaniard brought them continued success.
Here, SunSport details the five WORST signings City have made in the Premier League era….
    Eliaquim Mangala – £42m (2014)
Mangala was strongly criticised by the media during his time at CityCredit: AFP or licensors
Joleon Lescott left the Etihad Stadium after Manuel Pellegrini’s side won the title and Mangala was heralded as a ready-made replacement.
The defender’s first two seasons saw the club drift away from the top of the table and he was often hammered for poor positioning and slow reactions.
A solid loan spell at Valencia earned Mangala momentary reprieve under Guardiola but, after 15 appearances, the new boss binned him off before serious injury struck in a 2018 spell with Everton.Jack Rodwell – £12m (2012)
Injuries curtailed Rodwell’s progressCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd
Rodwell was an up-and-coming star at Everton but became a symbol of City’s trigger-happy stockpiling when jumping ship at the age of 21.
There was a problem, however: City already had an excellent set of central midfielders.
Battling past Yaya Toure, James Milner, David Silva, Samir Nasri, Javi Garcia, Gareth Barry and Fernandinho was too much for Rodwell and he left after two years and just 25 appearances.

    Jerome Boateng – £10m (2010)
It is painful enough seeing a former player go on to great things but City didn’t even get close to utilising Boateng’s full potential.
Perhaps player and club were doomed from day one, the German tearing a tendon in his knee the week before the season began and aggravating it when a drinks trolley bashed it on a flight.
A year later, Boateng asked to head back home and was allowed to leave for Bayern Munich – going on to win a World Cup, a Champions League and seven Bundesliga titles.
    Jo – £19m (2008)
Jo arrived with a great record for CSKA MoscowCredit: Reuters
A top striker in Russia when snapped up by Mark Hughes, Jo struggled to say the least – scoring once in nine league outings before being moved on six months into his stay.
A brief upturn in form at Goodison Park gave the Citizens some hope of turning a profit… but a dismal 2009-2010 season on Merseyside dropped him back at City.
Failing to take another chance the following season, Jo finally left to return to Brazil, having cost much more than Vincent Kompany and Pablo Zabaleta combined.Wilfried Bony – £25m (2015)
Bony was sent back to Swansea in 2016 but couldn’t find form there, eitherCredit: Getty Images – Getty
Ten goals in 46 games, only six of which came in the league, is a poor record for any striker, but for an expensive forward at a club aiming to win the title? Terrible.
The Prem top scorer for the calendar year of 2014, Bony initially couldn’t play for City due to African Cup of Nations duty and a summer bout of malaria came after a quiet start.
That stunted his hopes for the following year and the club learned their lesson, from then on turning their attention away from signing top players from smaller sides. More

Everything ‘idiot’ Boehly has done at ‘Mickey Mouse’ club Chelsea was a mistake including Lampard, slams Jamie O’Hara

CHELSEA owner Todd Boehly’s “Micky Mouse” decisions have all been a “mistake” this season, claims Jamie O’Hara.Former Tottenham ace O’Hara put Boehly on full blast after the Blues crashed out of the Champions League with a 4-0 aggregate loss to Real Madrid.

That means the West Londoners’ interim manager Frank Lampard has lost all four of his matches ever since his surprise return to Stamford Bridge to replace Graham Potter.
O’Hara lashed out at Chelsea’s owner as he called him “a bit of an idiot” and claims everything he did was wrong.
That includes the “shocking” appointment of Lampard as he’s “too low on confidence” and all the players are “totally lost” under his coaching.
O’Hara told Grosvenor Sport: “Everything Todd Boehly has done so far has been a mistake.
    Read More on Chelsea
“The recruitment has been shocking; he brought in Graham Potter and all his backroom staff which turned out to be a nightmare, and now they haven’t won a game yet under Lampard – so you’d have to say that’s probably another mistake appointing him.
“In my opinion, Todd Boehly’s a bit of an idiot, and he’s thrown Frank a bone to ‘come and bring Chelsea back’, but Frank’s too low on confidence – he has lost all eight of his games as a manager in 2023!
“It’s Micky Mouse stuff what has happened at that football club recently; they’ve got a billionaire owner in Boehly, but you could have all the money in the world and not have a clue how to run a football club.
“It’s been a joke – Boehly has actually buried the mentality of that football team, and the DNA of Chelsea is completely lost at the moment. They need to find it again, and quickly.

“I don’t know where his [Lampard’s] career goes from here. I think he’s a bit lost for ideas; he needs to go away and work on his managerial skills and game.
“I look at Chelsea and they just look totally lost under him; the players don’t know what they’re doing.
“There’s no point in doing another managerial change now, unless that manager is guaranteed to be there at the start of next season.
“I don’t know who the manager is that they’re trying to get, but he’d want to bring in his own people and own staff and have a fresh start. They wouldn’t want to come into this – it’s a poisoned chalice right now.” More

But the World Cup winner is supposedly unhappy in France and with his contract expiring there at the end of the season, he wants to return to Barca on a free transfer.
The LaLiga side are keen on his return from an on and off the pitch perspective.
Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona chiefs believe the return of Messi could contribute to 25 per cent of the club’s revenue next year.
Some even believe the boom in the sales of tickets and merchandise along with cash injections from sponsors could be worth 33 per cent of turnover.

They are confident that the financial impact could be bigger than the boost the Chicago Bulls received when Michael Jordan came out of retirement in 1995 for a second spell with the team.
Barca are also looking to help play a major part in building the “Messi brand” and they have drawn comparisons to the American’s “Air Jordan” venture with Nike.
Xavi supposedly talks to the player regularly and is looking forward to Messi’s own “Last Dance”.

De Gea will see a significant reduction to his salary but also a rise in performance-related bonuses, such as financial incentives for keeping clean sheets.

However, the playmaker’s contract runs out next year and talks of an extension have hit a snag, which means his future appears uncertain while some of Europe’s biggest hitters are circling in.
According to The Mail, the England international will command a staggering asking price of £80million.
The 24-year-old has attracted interest from Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Newcastle and Liverpool amid his ongoing struggles which have seen him tumble down the pecking order.
The Magpies seem the most likely to meet Mount’s fee thanks to their wealthy Saudi owners.

However, the Toon are determined not to shatter their wage structure even if they qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Bruno Guimaraes is among Newcastle’s highest earners with a weekly wage of £120,000, while Mount makes at least £250,000 per week at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool are also unlikely to splash the cash after pulling out of the transfer war over Borussia Dortmund superstar Jude Bellingham.
Many fans want Mount to stay after becoming a key player in the last four years, insisting other underachievers should depart from Chelsea’s inflated squad instead.
