United pounced late in the window to wrap up a loan deal for Bayern Munich star Sabitzer.
The Red Devils announced earlier in the day that Christian Eriksen was out injured for around three months.
And ESPN claims it was all hands to the pump as United’s top chiefs got involved in talks with Bayern.
Football director John Murtough, his deputy Andy O’Boyle, director of data science Dominic Jordan and head of recruitment Steve Brown were all needed to get a deal over the line.

And the “emergency protocol” paid off as United submitted the paperwork to sign Sabitzer before the 11pm deadline.
However, Ten Hag was first presented with his choice of 10 midfielders by United’s footy boffins.
The players were all deemed “fit, available and worth investing in”, giving Ten Hag a headache the day before the deadline.
But it was Sabitzer who the Dutchman eventually plumped for.

“To bring a quality player in on deadline day, that is difficult, but we got this opportunity.”
Director Murtough added: “Marcel is a player that we have watched for a long time.
“The opportunity arose quickly and we knew that he was someone with the ability and character to make an impact.

Man Utd ‘had lined up Josip Juranovic for January transfer’ before Aaron Wan-Bissaka forced way back into team

THE fate of Manchester United’s right-back spot could have been in very different hands, with United reportedly agreeing a deal to sign Josip Juranovic. The Union Berlin star left Celtic during the January transfer window after an impressive opening half to the campaign.

Consequently, the Croatia international was on the radar of a number of big clubs.
Man Utd’s urgent need for a right-back at the time, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka expected to leave in January, put them down this path.
Fabrizio Romano has reported the Red Devils had a “right-back in their hands” in the form of Juranovic, with the 28-year-old “top of the list for back-up right-back”.
However, Wan-Bissaka’s strong post-World Cup form in the absence of Diogo Dalot saw United hold fire on the deal.

Erik ten Hag ultimately kept faith with the Englishman to serve as Dalot’s understudy for the rest of the season.
Barring one glaring mishap against Arsenal – which also partly lies at David De Gea’s feet – the 25-year-old has proven he has a future at Old Trafford.
Juranovic eventually sealed a £10million transfer to the Bundesliga on January 22.
He then made an instant impact for his new club, registering two assists in as many games – in a similar vein to Joao Cancelo, who surprisingly moved to Bayern Munich on loan.

Man Utd did end up signing one star late on however, in the form of Bayern’s Marcel Sabitzer.
The Austrian midfielder was brought in on loan as a direct replacement for Christian Eriksen, who was revealed to have sustained an injury until late April or early May.
Despite this, United confirmed a spot at Wembley as they beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 [5-0 agg], with the added boost of Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial returning, in the Carabao Cup.

Kiwior also impressed while playing at the Qatar World Cup last November-December.
And the defender’s fine performances saw a number of top clubs register an interest in Kiwior.
Italian giants Napoli, AC Milan and Juventus were all keen, the player’s agent has revealed.
Sasha Baranov told TV Play: “All the important Italian clubs other than Inter Milan showed interest, including Napoli, AC Milan and Juventus.

“However, with Napoli’s current situation, they didn’t need to change their team in January and wanted to continue talks in the summer.
“You all know what happened at Juventus, while Milan also waited, and you know what happens when the Premier League clubs come in.
“When a side like Arsenal come along, it becomes difficult for a 22-year-old to say no.
“If it was Juventus or another big club coming in, it may well have been the same situation, but Arsenal are the only side who really pushed the talks forward.

“We honestly didn’t expect it to all move so fast, we thought he would stay in January and leave Spezia in June.

Blackburn suffer paperwork disaster leaving Lewis O’Brien facing six months without playing after transfer from Forest

BLACKBURN ROVERS are appealing the EFL’s decision to reject applications for two deadline day transfers that has left Lewis O’Brien and Ethan Brierley in limbo. The governing body ruled that the Championship club failed to submit the relevant paperwork to secure deals for the Nottingham Forest midfielder and Rochdale ace before last night’s 11pm cut-off.

Rovers had the opportunity to present their case at a hearing earlier today and stated that they had filed the documentation and info requested by the league in their bid to get the deal rubber-stamped.
However, the EFL have rejected the Ewood Park outfit’s mitigating factors as to why it was submitted late.
Rovers thought they had pulled off a deadline day coup with the capture of 24-year-old O’Brien.
The 24-year-old was initially joining on loan with the option for a permanent deal should they secure promotion.

The 19-year-old Brierley was also wanted by a host of other Championship clubs after bursting into the Rochdale first-team, but Rovers looked to have won the race for his signature.
However, both face an anxious wait to discover their futures despite passing their respective medicals after the moves did not get the necessary sign-off from the EFL.
And O’Brien will be particularly worried as he could now be left out of Forest’s 25-man Premier League squad for the second part of the campaign if he has to stay at the City Ground.
That would leave him with the prospect of no football for the remainder of the season.

However, Rovers have confirmed they have launched an appeal, with a statement reading: “One of the deals was a very ambitious target and it was only confirmed that he was able to join us late Tuesday afternoon.
“Due to the complex nature of the various agreements to be included within the overall registration, legal advisors were brought in to assist in part of the process.
“Despite the club’s best endeavours to complete all the required elements of this loan transfer, due to events we believe to be outside of our control, the deadline for submission was late and despite the club stating the mitigating reasons for the delayed submission, our application has today been rejected by the EFL.
“Our application for the second deal – for the permanent transfer of a promising young player – was also delayed due to unsigned paperwork and technical issues encountered by the club at the point of submission.
“Once again the EFL has not accepted these issues were an impediment to the paperwork being lodged on time and has also rejected this application.
“The club will now appeal the EFL decision to reject both applications and will submit documents ahead of the Tuesday, February 7 deadline.” More
