Mount is expected to leave the Blues after 18 years after failing to agree terms on a new contract.
With the 24-year-old entering the final year of his current deal, Chelsea are now set to part ways with the midfielder.
United are understood to be the frontrunners to land his signature as talks continue over a deal.
However, former Chelsea full-back Glen Johnson believes Mount would be better off joining Liverpool instead.

Speaking to Betfred, he explained: “I am shocked that it looks as if Mason’s heading to Old Trafford.
“I don’t believe that Manchester United needs Mason and I believe that it’s a weird move for the player as well. Manchester United is obviously a huge club, but they’re not nailed on to win anything.
“I believe that Chelsea need to keep him and it would be strange to see them allow Mason to make the move to Manchester United.
“If he was to leave Chelsea for another Premier League club, then I believe Liverpool would have suited him better.”

Liverpool have been linked with Mount in recent weeks but are thought to have admitted defeat in the race to sign him.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are reportedly now eyeing a deal to sign James Ward-Prowse from relegated Southampton as they continue their midfield overhaul.
Mount endured a stop-start 2022/23 season due to injuries, with a pelvis issue sidelining him for much of the second half of the campaign.
Despite that, United would welcome a player with 33 goals and 37 assists in 195 Chelsea appearances if they can complete the signing.

The French giants have been left stunned after Mbappe delivered a letter vowing not to renew his contract.
It means the World Cup-winner must be sold this summer, otherwise he can depart as a free agent next year.
And PSG have no intention of losing their star man for nothing.
CBS Sport claims the Ligue 1 champs were already exploring attacking targets before Mbappe’s bombshell.

And one of those is Man United flop Sancho.
The England international has failed to live up to billing at Old Trafford, scoring just 12 goals in 79 outings.

Erik ten Hag delivered a warning to Sancho earlier this month after losing the FA Cup final.
And Tottenham have been linked with a bid this summer, with Serie A winners Napoli thought to be interested too.

And United fans believe they can take advantage by bringing Mbappe to Old Trafford in exchange.
One said: “Switch for Mbappe? Who says no?”
Another declared: “A swap deal and cash for Mbappe to United looks feasible.”

Chelsea fans praise Mykhailo Mudryk with £88m transfer flop ready to make drastic career decision

CHELSEA fans have praised £88million transfer-flop Mykhailo Mudryk for his decision to play for Ukraine’s Under-21 side this summer. The Blues won the race to sign the highly-rated youngster in January despite long-term interest in him from rivals’ Arsenal.
Mudryk largely found himself as a substitute last seasonCredit: Getty
His time in West London has not gone to plan however, with the winger not registering a goal in his 15 Premier League appearances and contributing just two assists.
The Telegraph report that Mudryk will make himself available for his country’s U21s European Championship side this summer in a bid to rediscover his form – which has impressed incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Mudryk is currently with the Ukraine senior squad as they prepare for their own European Championship qualifiers against North Macedonia on Friday night and against Malta next week.
He started for Ukraine in their friendly against Germany yesterday which ended in a 3-3 draw.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
Despite turning 22 in January, the winger is eligible to play for Ukraine in the U21 championship – which starts next Wednesday and is being held in Georgia and Romania – as he was 21 when the season started.
Chelsea will not stand in the winger’s way if he wants to play in the tournament given the limited minutes he has featured in since joining the club.

He completed just one 90 minute game in the league this season.
It is understood that Mudryk would like to maximise the minutes he plays this summer in a bid to find rhythm ahead of the upcoming 2023-24 season.

And Chelsea fans have reacted positively to the news that Mudryk will play for his U21s.
One fan said: “Mentality not to give up”
Another said: “Keep fighting young man, eventually it will pay off!”
While a third added: “Good lad. He needs to rebuild that confidence for sure”
Ukraine’s U21s find themselves in Group B for the tournament in Georgia and Romania – the group includes Spain and Croatia as well as co-hosts Romania.
If the winger is called up to the U21s he will no doubt be one of the star attractions at the tournament.
England are in Group C and will play rivals’ Germany as well as the Czech Republic and Israel.
A number of Premier League stars are part of England’s provisional squad, including: Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe, Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, Noni Madueke, Levi Colwill and Lewis Hall as well as Tottenham’s Oliver Skipp.
England’s final squad will be announced tomorrow. More

The extra year, though, is a player option, which means it is up to the forward whether he wants to trigger it or not.
According to L’Equipe, however, the star striker has sent the French champions a formal letter informing them that under no circumstances will he be activating that option.
Therefore, the Parisians might have to sell the France international this summer to avoid losing him for free next year.
Just yesterday PSG insisted the 24-year-old won’t be leaving the Parc des Princes in the upcoming transfer window.

But Mbappe’s letter has turned things around and “everything is now open”.
If the ex-Monaco star does not trigger the extra year he will be free to pen a pre-contract agreement with a club outside of France in January.
Real Madrid were very keen to land Mbappe last summer before he signed his current PSG deal, which is worth a reported total of £500million throughout a three-year period.
But Real are already set to splash a significant amount on Borussia Dortmund superstar Jude Bellingham, who will be worth at least £100m.

That means the Premier League’s biggest clubs could come knocking for Mbappe.
Liverpool were previously linked with the Frenchman whereas Chelsea are desperate for a leader in attack.
Newcastle could also invest their Saudi owners’ mega riches on one of the world’s best players.
And Manchester United could be taken over by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is keen to start his bid of restoring the club to the top by signing a top star.
If Mbappe leaves then that means PSG could lose their entire star-studded frontline with Lionel Messi’s going to Inter Miami and Neymar on the verge of his own departure. More

The centre-back still struggled to meet expectations in north London in 2020 and underwent two more year-long loan stints to Nice and Marseille.
That experience proved to be critical for the France international as he quickly transformed into Arsenal’s rock in defence immediately after his return in June.
However, the 22-year-old couldn’t see this last year and thus had “doubts” about working with Arteta following a stunning stint with L’OM, where he enjoyed playing so much he considered staying.
That is according to Saliba’s former boss Philippe Guillemet, who is the former director of Saint-Etienne’s academy centre.
    Read More on Arsenal
Guillemet told The Athletic: “He loved Marseille. It was a fantastic year.
“Speaking to people close to him, he had doubts about Arsenal because there were some issues between him and the coach. Now he is happy in London.”
However, Saliba has settled very well at Arsenal as he has become a prolific figure under Arteta.
In fact, many argue the Gunners’ Premier League title charge came to an end when the defender got injured in March.

That is why Arsenal have prioritised a new contract for the Frenchman ahead of pre-season.
And the North Londoners have reportedly given in to Saliba’s demands to agree a new long-term deal.
In fact, Arteta made it absolutely clear that the player is central to all of his long-term plans and must be kept at any cost. More

Williams will link up with Mark Hughes’ League Two side, who are desperate to win promotion after losing out in the play-offs to Carlisle.
Bradford have already sold 17,000 season tickets for next season.
Williams is believed to have turned down offers from fellow League One side Northampton as well as League Two trio Wrexham, Notts County and Gillingham.
That means the playmaker will not be part of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s popular project.

But if that isn’t enough to ensure his exit, Bild understands his deal also contains a stipulation that he is not allowed to play in the Championship.
Koch joined Leeds from Freiburg after their promotion to the Premier League in 2020.
He has made 77 appearances for the Yorkshire side, helping them to a ninth-place finish in their first season back in the top flight.
Manager Marcelo Bielsa, who guided Leeds to promotion, was sacked during the 2021/22 campaign, before they narrowly avoided relegation under Jesse Marsch.

Former Norwich boss Daniel Farke and West Brom head coach Carlos Corberan have both been linked with the vacant position.
