Martinez confessed it would be “easy” to move to one of Europe’s top clubs who regularly compete at that level.
And when manager Unai Emery criticised him for contesting a late corner which Arsenal scored from, it seemed Villa would struggle to hold on to their No1.
However, the 30-year-old kept his 33rd clean sheet in 99 Villa appearances to surpass Mark Bosnich and Brad Friedel’s record of 32 in 100 appearances against Bournemouth at the weekend.
Afterwards he spoke of his pride at setting the new standard and confessed: “It’s a great feeling.

MANCHESTER UNITED will have to table a club-record transfer bid if they want to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham this summer, according to reports.Earlier this month, SunSport exclusively revealed that United chiefs had made contact with Kane’s camp through a third party and were encouraged by the response.
Kane is worth £100m, according to TottenhamCredit: Getty
The striker will enter the final year of his contract with Tottenham at the end of the season, so the Red Devils had hoped that a cut-price offer would be enough to persuade Daniel Levy and Antonio Conte to part with their star man.
However, according to The Times, Tottenham are demanding £100million for Kane.
The Lilywhites want the record fee in a single up-front payment.
So if Kane were to join Man Utd, he would become a club-record signing.

He would also become the joint most expensive English player of all-time with Jack Grealish, who joined Manchester City in a £100m transfer from Aston Villa in 2021.
Kane is expected to discuss his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of the season.
He is claimed to be open to negotiating a new contract and Spurs chiefs are confident that he will remain at the club next season despite interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich as well as Man Utd.
United boss Erik ten Hag is understood to be eager to sign a striker when the summer transfer window opens.

Newcastle ‘to launch Scott McTominay transfer swoop’ with Man Utd midfielder’s arrival great news for Bruno Guimaraes

NEWCASTLE are planning a summer bid for Manchester United ace Scott McTominay, reports suggest. That is according to the Telegraph, who report that Eddie Howe believes McTominay as can add a greater physical presence to his midfield.

Howe is also confident the Scotland international would compliment Bruno Guimaraes by shielding the back-four while the Brazilian adds creativity further up the pitch.
The Toon tried to sign the 26-year-old in January but United refused to sell to a direct Premier League rival.
However, Newcastle are now confident the Red Devils’ resolve will soften as manager Erik ten Hag will need to raise funds as he continues his Old Trafford rebuild.
McTominay is not the glamorous name Toon fans had in mind after their £300million Saudi-led takeover in 2021 but chief scout Steve Nickson, director of football Dan Ashworth and Howe are big fans.

The Tyneside giants need a defensive midfielder after losing Jonjo Shelvey to Nottingham Forest and the manager prefers to sign players with Premier League experience.
Plus, the Magpies are pushing for a Champions League finish and would need McTominay’s experience in Europe.
The United academy graduate has played in the Champions League and Europa League but has fallen down the pecking order behind Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Fred and Marcel Sabitzer.
And McTominay could be keen to move to a club like Newcastle who want to give him a key role with more opportunities at top level.

The United ace would add muscle in midfield and an extra threat at set-pieces.
It is also believed that McTominay is also the kind of player who could dramatically improve under Howe’s coaching.
The midfielder has only managed two goals and one assist in 32 matches across all competitions this season. More

Man Utd scouting Kaoru Mitoma as they consider move for Brighton sensation ahead of summer clearout

MANCHESTER UNITED have sent scouts to watch Brighton star Kaoru Mitoma this season. The Japan international has been a sensation for Roberto De Zerbi’s side and is another huge success for the Seagulls’ recruitment team.

Brighton picked up Mitoma from Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale for just £2.7million in 2021.
And after a year on loan with their sister club Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium last season, he has been a revelation.
The 25-year-old only made his full Brighton debut in August, starting against Forest Green Rovers in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
But since De Zerbi’s arrival he has bagged nine goals and laid on six assists in all competitions.

Mitoma’s fine form and electric pace has caught the eye of bigger clubs, who have started to keep tabs on his progress.
While it is custom for the big six to have scouts at other Premier League games, those reporting for United at recent Brighton matches have done so with a focus on Mitoma.
Those reports will now also come in handy for Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag as he prepares to face Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final next month.
The Dutchman is still in the running for a cup treble this season having already won the Carabao Cup with United still in both the FA Cup and Europa League.

However, the former Ajax boss is planning a summer clearout at Old Trafford, with Anthony Elanga and Anthony Martial both facing the chop – meaning investment will be needed out wide.
And, as has been the case at most top clubs over the past year, they are looking to Brighton to recruit.
Brighton chief Paul Barber told The Beautiful Game Podcast on Mitoma: “He’s another player that no doubt is going to be in the spotlight again come the next transfer window, but we’re ready for that and we understand that.
“We just hope he can have another second half to the season in the way that he has started it.”
The Seagulls have raked in huge sums of money through their canny recruitment in recent years, with Marc Cucurella, Yves Bissouma, Ben White, Leandro Trossard and Dan Burn all moving on for large fees.

World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister and £70million Arsenal target Moises Caicedo look to be next in line this summer, and Mitoma is not far behind.
Boss De Zerbi hopes success this season, with the Seagulls now into the FA Cup semi-finals and chasing Champions League qualification in the Premier League, can help keep his brightest stars on the south coast. More

The Spanish stopper, 32, joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
But his deal expires at the end of the season.

And Vincent Kompany is still keeping tabs after trying to sign Verbruggen for Burnley last summer.
United are now considering a swoop, even if De Gea ends up penning an extension.

But Anderlecht are unlikely to sell for less than £8.5million.
Verbruggen himself is remaining tight-lipped over his future, saying: “Will I still play here next season? That’s a very direct question.
“I’m now really into that yet, June is so far away. I want to keep performing with Anderlecht first, I am happy at this club.”
Former Spurs star and now Anderlecht captain Jan Vertonghen reckons Verbruggen can be the best in the world.
He added: “For me, he has the potential to become one of the best goalies if you see where he is now.
“I have rarely seen such a personality at that age, modest but very driven and ambitious.
“If I’m a top European club and have the money to spend, I wouldn’t hesitate.” More

The Gunners boss has led his side to the brink of a first Premier League title since 2004.
And Sunday’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace saw Arsenal pull seven points clear of Man City at the top of the table.
However, the Londoners were unable to maintain their charge in the Europa League last week.
And Arteta wants more top-quality options so Arsenal can push hard in all competitions next season.

Defence is an area he wants to strengthen after seeing William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu limp off in Thursday’s defeat to Sporting Lisbon.
And Aksam claims Gala right-back Boey is at the top of Arteta’s shopping list.
The French ace, 22, has been playing in Turkey for over 18 months after previously starring at Rennes and Dijon.
Like January signing Jakub Kiwior, he is rated as a top future prospect while also having already gained plenty of first-team minutes.

Liverpool were linked with a January move for Boey, while Lyon had a £7million bid recently turned down.
The star is tied down to Gala until 2025, and they will want at least £10m this summer.
Boey’s arrival could see Tomiyasu switch flanks to become second choice at left-back.
And that could see Kieran Tierney sweat over his Emirates future after another injury-plagued campaign.
Versatile Tomiyasu can also play at centre-back, which may yet raise doubts over Rob Holding’s place. More

But with that deal ending in the summer, he looks set to be on the move again as the Stamford Bridge club are said to want to sell him.
And Todo Fichajes claim Aston Villa are surprise admirers and considering launching a bid.
Unai Emery’s side sold Danny Ings to West Ham in January, leaving Ollie Watkins as the main striker.
Villa also have Bertrand Traore and Wesley on their books.

But signing Lukaku would add plenty of experience and extra talent into the attack.
Lukaku has 121 goals in 278 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, West Brom, Everton and Manchester United.
The Belgian, though, has expressed his desire to stay put at Inter, where he spent two years from 2019 to 2021, winning Serie A, reaching the Europa League final and scoring 64 goals in 95 games.
He has struggled to hit his top form this term, though, with just five goals in 19 games – including three in the league.

But as with Villa’s pursuit, attempts by Inter to sign Lukaku permanently could be thwarted by finances.
Ths San Siro giants and Villa Park side may be unable to offer the money both Chelsea and Lukaku the money they want for a transfer.
The Blues will certainly have to take a hit on the £97m outlay two years earlier.
But Lukaku’s current contract in West London sees him earn a whopping £325,000 per week.

Chelsea have no genuine strikers available for the Champions League knockout stages, dumping Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang while Armando Broja is injured.
Kai Havertz, Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling can all play in a central role, though. More
