Man City ‘monitoring Celta Vigo wonderkid Gabri Veiga’ with Man Utd and Newcastle also chasing transfer

MANCHESTER CITY have joined Man Utd and Newcastle in trailing Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga. That’s the claim from Spain as the LaLiga side fight an uphill battle to keep the 20-year-old beyond this summer.

Real Madrid are also thought to be keen, with Veiga understood to have a £35million release clause.
Etihad chief Pep Guardiola has one eye on strengthening in midfield.
That’s partly because City duo Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva face uncertain futures in the summer
And Celta president Carlos Mourino accepts holding onto Veiga is virtually impossible – not least financially.

He also revealed that at least four Premier League clubs are seriously interested.
Mourino said: “We want to keep Gabri Veiga but it will be impossible due to his release clause.
“We don’t want to sell, but they are going to buy him from us. And we can’t do anything there.
“We know some of his offers and it is impossible to reach them.

Man Utd ‘line up £80m Harry Kane transfer offer after club chiefs give Erik ten Hag green light to swoop’

MANCHESTER UNITED have given Erik ten Hag the green light to bid £80million for Harry Kane, according to reports. And they want to wrap up a deal to sign the England captain before the end of the season.

The Tottenham striker, 29, is a long-term target for the Red Devils who desperately want a new No9 this summer after axing Cristiano Ronaldo.
SunSport revealed earlier in March that the Old Trafford club are confident they will land Kane this summer if Tottenham miss out on the top four and the Champions League.
Spurs have been holding out for £100m – but United hope they will accept an offer below that.
Now the Mirror report the Red Devils board have sanctioned an £80m opening offer for their priority transfer target.
It is thought Ten Hag implored his seniors to stump up the cash because he is desperate to secure the striker to transform his side into genuine title contenders and therefore wants to open talks as soon as possible.
Kane is wanted by plenty of Europe’s top clubs including Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Chelsea – but the report adds his preferred destination is Old Trafford.
His current £200,000-a-week contract at Tottenham expires in 2024 and he needs to make a decision on his future as his long wait for a trophy goes on.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy understandably wants Kane to stay but knows he must make a shrewd managerial appointment to replace Antonio Conte and convince Kane the North Londoners can fight for silverware.
    Most read in Football
United made contact with Kane’s camp through a third party and were encouraged by the response.
Kane said in January that there had “not been much talking” with Spurs over a new contract but he was “sure there will be conversations over the coming months”.
Champions Manchester City are no longer in the running, having failed to land the striker in 2021 as they were quoted a whopping £150m by Levy.
Now the Spurs chief is set to have to settle for far less than that – or else he risks losing Kane for nothing next year.
On the international stage, Kane became England’s all-time record goalscorer with his penalty against Italy last week.
And he took his tally to 55 against Ukraine on Sunday.

Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic wanted by ex-boss Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich on free transfer as contract runs down

But his contract expires in 16 months and he would be available as a free transfer if he does not extend his deal before the end of next season.
And the Evening Standard report Tuchel, his former manager with the Blues, is among those looking at the star.
The German was installed as Bayern boss last week, quickly after the shock sacking of Julian Nagelsmann, and has already set his sights on his ex-club.
Tuchel, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, is also keen to bring in Blues coach Anthony Barry.

The interest in Kovacic goes beyond just his former boss with Manchester City also believed to be a fan of the dynamic midfielder.
The 28-year-old is seen as an important first-team player and has even served as Chelsea’s captain over the last four games due to absences of major stars like Thiago Silva.
But manager Graham Potter and chairman Todd Boehly have big decisions to make on outgoings after the club announced a huge loss of £121m earlier this week.
The London club now face a huge summer clear-out to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, having spend over £600m on new signings in the last year.

Profitable homegrown stars like midfielder Mason Mount, Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi are among the players who the club could potentially sell.
But one squad member who is expected to stay is N’Golo Kante, who has not played a senior game for Chelsea since August.
The Frenchman, who turns 32 tomorrow, has been struggling with injury for much of the season but could soon put pen to paper on a contract extension.
He is on the path back to full fitness with some of his supportive teammates cheering him on at an U21 game earlier this month. More

He broke into the Chelsea team after that before a £34million switch to Roma, where he scored 27 goals in all competitions last season.
Abraham, 25, has just seven goals this term but that has not deterred Villa’s interest, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The report claims manager Unai Emery has identified Abraham as the man to improve his attack.
It is claimed Abraham would be open to returning to England, particularly as it could bolster his chances of being called up by Gareth Southgate.

He has not asked to be sold but Roma are reportedly open to offers.
It is believed the Italian outfit need to bring in between £44-48m to budget for losses this year.
That could see Abraham leave with the striker worth a reported £35m.
Roma are considering options to replace the 11-cap star too, with Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino top of their wishlist.

He exited under a cloud following a rant about the players and club in the wake of a 3-3 draw with Southampton before the international break.
But now his departure has been confirmed, a number of candidates are being linked with the role.
Spurs have given themselves time to appoint a long-term successor after handing the caretaker role to Cristian Stellini until the end of the season.
But a permanent replacement remains the focus for Tottenham chiefs.

And a return for Mauricio Pochettino is one of the possible options for the summer.
Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann and ex-Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique have also been mooted.
But according to Sky Sports Italia, Real Madrid legend Zidane is also on Spurs’ shortlist.
The 50-year-old has been out of work since leaving Los Blancos for the second time at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Best XI of players Chelsea could be FORCED to sell including Man Utd and City transfer targets Mount and Chilwell

CHELSEA could be forced into selling an entire XI of star players this summer. The Blues revealed whopping losses of £121million for last season.
Chelsea could be forced into selling numerous players to comply with FFP rulesCredit: Getty

That took their overall deficit to £274m over the past two campaigns.
And with next season’s figures set to include the £545m spent on transfers this term, pressure is mounting for Todd Boehly to balance the books… or Chelsea could be hit with Financial Fair Play sanctions.
One likely option will see the Blues sell off several key players from their massive 36-man Premier League squad.
But who are the likely candidates to be pushed through the Stamford Bridge exit door?
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
    GK: Edouard Mendy
The Senegal stopper looked like one of the best goalkeepers in the world early on in his Blues spell.
But he went off the boil and refused to sign a new contract as Kepa Arrizabalaga reclaimed the No1 spot – now the Afcon winner could be reunited with Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich.

    RB: Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Okay, he is not a traditional right-back but has filled in there previously.
Loftus-Cheek’s current deal expires in 2024 and is one of a number of academy graduates whose potential sale would make a guaranteed profit.

    CB: Trevoh Chalobah
Like Loftus-Cheek, Chalobah came through the youth ranks and any fee received will help.
He has been linked with a move away already – with Italian giants Roma and Inter Milan said to be interested.
    CB: Kalidou Koulibaly
Considering he was linked with the Premier League for so long, it has been rather underwhelming from Koulibaly who has not found consistent top form.
The £295,000-a-week defender is under contract until 2026 and is already dropping down the pecking order behind the likes of Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.
    LB: Ben Chilwell
The injury-hit left-back is one of the best in the country on form – as demonstrated by his inclusion in the England squad.
But Graham Potter also has Marc Cucurella at his disposal so Chilwell could be one of the most valuable assets Chelsea are willing to sell, especially with Manchester City keen on the ex-Leicester man.
Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah are both at risk of being sold this summerCredit: Getty
    CM: Conor Gallagher
Home-grown talent and an English midfielder aged 23 is a good combination for getting a decent fee.
Gallagher has proven he can cut it in the Premier League, prompting Everton to bid £45million for the former Crystal Palace loanee, but is far from a guaranteed starter at Chelsea.
    CM: Mateo Kovacic
Another man who will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer is Kovacic.
The experienced Croatian technician is already being eyed by City, especially with Pep Guardiola revamping his midfield.
    CM: Mason Mount
Transfermarkt have Mount as Chelsea’s third-most valuable player behind Enzo Fernandez and Reece James.
The England midfielder is 24 years old and has just over a year left on his current deal, which has grabbed the attention of Manchester United and Liverpool who could stump up significant cash after likely missing out on Jude Bellingham.
England midfielders Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount both came through the Blues academyCredit: Getty
    RW: Callum Hudson-Odoi
Hudson-Odoi was once tipped as the next big thing for Chelsea but it simply has not worked out as planned for various reasons.
He finds himself out on loan with Bayer Leverkusen and the influx of attacking talent this season means he will struggle to get minutes in 2023-24.
    ST: Romelu Lukaku
The Belgian striker’s £97m return to Stamford Bridge has failed miserably and he was shipped out on loan back to Inter this term.
Chelsea are unlikely to get anywhere near the fee they paid for him in 2021 – and Lukaku may have to take a serious cut on his £325,000-a-week wages – but getting him off the books will be a massive financial boost.
    LW: Christian Pulisic
The American attacker is another man who has never hit the heights expected after a big-money transfer and also is tied down until 2024.
    Read More on The Sun
As USA’s poster boy ahead of the home World Cup in 2026, he knows he needs to be playing regularly.
Hakim Ziyech is another player who could have been included here and will almost certainly leave – but the 30-year-old is six years older than Pulisic and worth about half as much.

Inside Qatar’s plans to put Man Utd at top of Europe’s biggest multi-club network sharing feeder club with PSG

MANCHESTER UNITED could reportedly become a part of the biggest multi-club network in the world if they are taken over by Qatari investors. The Red Devils’ owners the Glazers are considering several bids as they weigh up the possibility of selling the Premier League giants.
Sheikh Jassim is hoping to take over at Manchester United
One of the most high-profile offers has come from a group fronted by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani – chairman of the Qatari Islamic Bank and son of the gulf state’s former Prime Minister.
Qatar Sports Investments already own Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
They also have a de facto controlling stake in Portuguese outfit Sporting Braga.
And according to the Daily Record, QSI chairman and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is considering taking control of Malaga – who are in danger of dropping down to the third tier of Spanish football.
    READ MORE ON MAN UTD
The club have been owned by a subsidiary member of Qatar’s ruling family, Abdullah Al-Thani, since 2010, but have entered judicial administration.
However, QSI are looking into bringing the team into their sports investment infrastructure in a bid to return them to LaLiga.

This is part of a plan to create the biggest multi-club network in the sport, with Braga acting as development outfit for Man Utd and PSG.
It would rival the City Football Group – which Manchester City are a part of alongside the likes of New York City, Melbourne City and Mumbai City FC.

Braga sit third in the Primeira Liga meaning they are in line to reach the Champions League qualifiers next season – where a run to the group-stage could see them drawn against United or PSG.
Existing Uefa rules dictate that two clubs owned by the same people cannot compete against one another in European competition.
However, Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin recently hinted at an imminent changing of those regulations.
He told The Overlap: “This multi-club ownership question is an interesting question, I think we should think about it for the future and see what to do.
“There is more and more interest for this multi-club ownership and we shouldn’t just say no for the investments.
“But we have to see what kind of rules we set in that case because rules have to be strict. We have to rethink the current rules.
“I think it has to be quick because… everything has to happen quick in football.” More

Tottenham urged to appoint Spain legend as Antonio Conte’s successor as fans would ‘love brand of football’

CHRIS SUTTON believes he knows who should succeed Antonio Conte at Tottenham because of his style of football.Conte, 53, parted ways with Spurs at the weekend after 16 months in charge.
Antonio Conte departed Tottenham on Sunday eveningCredit: Reuters
His exit came following a startling rant about his players and the club in the wake of their 3-3 draw with Southampton before the international break.
Conte’s failure to deliver Tottenham their first trophy in 15 years was exacerbated by his conservative approach to games.
A number of front-foot managers have been touted with the role in the wake of his departure including ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and Julian Nagelsmann – recently sacked by Bayern Munich.
A permanent manager is expected to be appointed in the summer as Cristian Stellini leads the club until the end of the season.

Luis Enrique is one naming being touted with the vacant Spurs jobCredit: PA
But Blackburn and Celtic legend Sutton feels former Barcelona and Spain head coach Luis Enrique would be the perfect antidote to the Conte regime.
Speaking to The Mail, he said: “I think what is really important for Spurs, this was always a criticism of Conte, the brand of football was negative, from the start of the season how many times have you seen Spurs play an exciting brand of football.
“That’s why Luis Enrique ticks that box. I think Mauricio Pochettino is a really interesting one because I suspect a lot of Spurs fans like the idea of him returning and that love story of him having a second opportunity.
“But I suspect there are Spurs fans who may feel slightly peeved at the way that he left and maybe don’t want to go back there.”

He then went on to add: “I suspect this appointment will be about brand of football more than anything and what the Spurs fans demand.
“Then if trophies don’t come Daniel Levy can have the out of saying I am giving you what you want in terms of brand of football, this is the identity we have had since the 70s/80s and want to get back to that.
“In terms of brand of football I think they would love Enrique.”
Enrique won the treble with Barcelona in 2015, leaving the club with two LaLiga titles, three Copa del Reys and the Champions League.
He was sacked by Spain at the end of last year following a semi-final exit to Italy at the Euros and last-16 loss to Morocco at the World Cup.
Nagelsmann is the early favourite with the bookies to assume the vacant Spurs role come the end of the season.
Pochettino and Enrique are other names in the frame, while the other possible contenders Marco Silva, Ange Postecoglou, Ruben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi are all in jobs elsewhere. More
