Newcastle fans fume at ‘seriously underwhelming transfer wish list’ as four stars including Arsenal ace targeted

NEWCASTLE fans have been left fuming at an “underwhelming” list of supposed summer transfer targets. The Daily Mail report that manager Eddie Howe has identified four players with Premier League experience that he wants for next season.

They claim his shortlist includes Leicester winger Harvey Barnes, Manchester United star Scott McTominay, Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse and Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney.
And Toon fans are not excited by the prospect, one said: “That is a seriously underwhelming wish list.”
Another reacted: “I’d take Barnes, Tierney injured all the time, Ward-Prowse is alright but he specialises in set pieces and we have several free kick takers, McTominay not at all, out his depth against us.”
A third commented: “Can Eddie stay off transfers please.”

However, some fans are like Newcastle’s potential summer business, one wrote: “Barnes is immense, he will be world class under Eddie.
More charmed in: “Good solid signings that’ll greatly improve the squad.”
Barnes has netted ten goals in 27 games for Leicester in the Premier League this season.
The Foxes are in the midst of a relegation battle and if they go down, he and team-mate James Maddison, previously linked with a move to the Toon, could be set for transfers away.

Similarly, Ward-Prowse is likely to leave the Saints should they drop into the Championship.
Tierney is supposedly ready to quit Arsenal after losing his spot in the starting XI to Oleksandr Zinchenko this season.
A fee of £30million is the rumoured asking price for the Scot.
McTominay may leave United this summer with the club ready to cash-in on the player to potentially make way for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong or Borussia Dortmund ace Jude Bellingham.
Erik ten Hag reportedly has the midfielder, who joined the club aged five, on his list of players he is ready to axe as he continues to rebuild the club.

PSG launch transfer bid for Jude Bellingham with French giants desperate to win race for Borussia Dortmund star

Dortmund are also hoping he will commit his future to the club for one more season – with his contract running until 2025.
But he is expected to leave at the end of the campaign and Ligue 1 champions PSG are now understood to have joined the race for the Three Lions superstar.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Bellingham is a “strong target” for the French side.
Speaking about the teenager during the World Cup, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi told Sky Sports: “Bellingham is an amazing player, what a player.

“England are lucky to have him, to be honest. He’s one of the best players in the tournament.
“He’s amazing, in his first World Cup he’s calm, relaxed and confident.”
He continued: “Everyone wants him, I’m not going to hide it.
“He’s at his club and [we have] respect, so if we want to talk to him, we’ll have to talk to the club first.”

Bellingham joined Dortmund from Birmingham in 2020 and has thrived in the Bundesliga.
He has registered 20 goals and 25 assists in 126 games, including ten goals and seven assists this season.
Any club wanting to land him would likely need to fork out more than £100million.
Liverpool, and in particular Jurgen Klopp, are long-term admirers of the 24-cap international.
However, it is unlikely they will be able to compete financially with the likes of Real Madrid, Man City and PSG. More

How Chelsea could line up under Carlo Ancelotti with Real Madrid boss tipped for return 12 years after Blues axe

Club legend Frank Lampard has been put in charge of the side until the end of the season.
But, unless he wins the Champions League, the former Chelsea midfielder is expected to be replaced before the 2023/24 campaign gets underway.
The likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have been mooted as possible candidates.
But Real Madrid boss Ancelotti is now being touted for the role – 12 years after he departed Stamford Bridge.

The Italian, 63, could leave the Spanish champions in the coming months as they sit 12 points behind Barcelona in LaLiga.
They do face Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals, with anything but a 15th European triumph set to seal Ancelotti’s exit.
He has been linked with the vacant Brazil national team job.
However, Chelsea may look to entice him with a lucrative offer.

And Ancelotti could bring a couple of players back with him.
Marco Asensio and Dani Ceballos are both out of contract at the end of the season.
As they are set to depart Real, continuing with the four-time Champions League-winning manager could prove an attractive proposition.
Chelsea may also wish to make Atletico Madrid loanee Joao Felix’s move a permanent one as they desperately search for a focal point to their attack.
Ancelotti won the double with the Blues in 2010, but left the following season after a trophyless campaign in which they finished second in the Premier League behind Manchester United.

Barcelona ‘to slash player wages by further £61m with debt set to increase to £1.3bn despite Messi transfer interest’

BARCELONA are reportedly planning to reduce their wage bill by a further £61MILLION as they prepare to take on even more debt. The Catalan giants sit top of the LaLiga table, 12 points clear of fierce rivals Real Madrid.

But off-pitch matters continue to cloud the club’s future.
And with planned renovations to the Nou Camp in the pipeline, their debts – made up of loans and finance – are expected to reach £1.3billion.
According to Relevo, this has led club chiefs to look at reducing each player’s salary by 15 per cent from next season.
Stars such as Jordi Alba are also set to be approached about taking new deals on lesser wages.

Barcelona believe these cutbacks could save up to £61m.
But the players will need to agree to the reduced wages – a decision the squad will need to come to as a group.
And that could prove a difficult sell, particularly if the club continue to try and sign big names in the summer.
Earlier this week, reports emerged of a potential return for Lionel Messi.

The Argentine, 35, left in emotional circumstances two years ago when Barca’s financial crisis dictated that he had to move on.
He is now into his second season with Paris Saint-Germain, but is being urged to take a reduced deal to remain with the French side.
And Barca are one of several big offers on the table for Messi – despite their economic instability.
The club’s fans even chanted his name during their 4-0 Copa del Rey defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday evening.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is also the subject of a £350m-a-year offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
David Beckham’s MLS club Inter Miami have also shown interest in bringing him to America. More

How Chelsea could line up under Jose Mourinho next season with club ‘making contact’ with former boss

THIRD time may be a charm for Jose Mourinho after he was linked with the Chelsea job. Having been at the club twice before, Mourinho has reportedly been contacted to take over the reins for a third time once Frank Lampard’s caretaker spell comes to an end in the summer.

This could see the likes of Tammy Abraham return to the clubCredit: Getty
Since his last stint at the club, three-time Premier League winner Mourinho has managed Manchester United, Tottenham and is now at Roma – though reports suggest this could change in the summer.
The Portuguese boss still holds a fiery temperament, but may have evolved in his liking for players.
And should he be picked up by Chelsea again, it begs the question of how the Blues might line up.
One plausible theory is him using his Roma connections to overhaul Chelsea’s misfiring attack.

Tammy Abraham and Paulo Dybala could be the major signings under Mourinho – with Leonardo Spinazzola coming in at left back and Ilan Meslier in goal
Ex-Blues star Tammy Abraham could make his return to Stamford Bridge, partnering with Paulo Dybala just off of him.
Dybala, 29, would be a surprisingly cost-effective option for Chelsea in the transfer market, with a reported release clause for foreign clubs of just £10.5million (€12m).
Despite the presence of Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella, Mourinho may also opt to bring in a fresh face in Leonardo Spinazzola, owing to the Englishman’s injury issues and Cucurella’s poor form.
A transfer for a new goalie may also be sanctioned in order to upgrade on Kepa Arrizabalaga.

This could see Leeds stopper Illan Meslier brought in, with Brentford’s David Raya an alternative.
Mourinho may even opt to use most of what he will inherit, particularly if Chelsea’s finances take a hit if they fail to qualify for Champions League football next season.
Mykhailo Mudryk has already been compared to club legend Eden Hazard, so it well within the realm of possibility for Mourinho to use his talents in a similar way.
A Thiago Silva led back-line would also give Mourinho the experience he likes in defence, while the likes of Benoit Badiashile and Enzo Fernandez patrol the areas around him.
Mason Mount could be given a new lease of life in a more structured system, with Mourinho also convincing Mateo Kovacic to stay.
Christopher Nkunku’s arrival is an open secret, and his creative ability may be make him instrumental as he drifts inside while Reece James bombs on with Abraham the team’s focal point in attack.
A transfer ban could see Mourinho utilise the talent already in the squad – but topped with Tammy Abraham
However, if Mourinho wanted to go for a very classical team, it could see him recruit Man Utd and Roma favourite Chris Smalling with Nemanja Matic joining him for the FOURTH time.
And what’s to say fan-favourite Hazard can’t make a triumphant return to Stamford Bridge following his issues at Real Madrid.

Ryan Giggs’ son Zach, 16, looks set for Man Utd transfer exit but could be making Premier League debut next season

The Blades are in the hunt for promotion and sit in second place in the Championship.
Giggs has been part of the United academy since 2019, hoping to emulate his father at the club.
He has played for the Under-18s side, but his hopes of landing a professional deal at United have been dampened.
The left-back is on trial at Bramall Lane, but his move could be prevented by an EFL transfer embargo.

Sheffield United face the ban due to not meeting repayments on signings made.
This also impacts the club’s academy, meaning that Giggs would not be able to sign a senior deal.
A scholarship contract would potentially work but complications could arise if Man United demand funds for the player.
On the possibility of Giggs joining the club, Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom said: “There’s nothing I can say on it, but I know he’s [Giggs] in.

“I don’t know Zach’s situation [with Man Utd]. I am not privy to it at all, we can’t sign players.

Ex-Chelsea stars who left West London and became world class, like Kevin De Bruyne, Mo Salah and Declan Rice

EVERY time Kevin De Bruyne or Mohamed Salah put in a Man of the Match performance, Chelsea fans are hit with a pinch of ‘what might have been’.Unfortunately for Blues supporters, those two are now undisputed world superstars.

But, before they reached their current elite level, they were once allowed to leave Stamford Bridge as underplayed, underachieving youngsters.
And they’re not the only two either.
We’ve taken a look at SIX players who could have been starring in West London, if they had not failed to make the grade at Chelsea before going on to become superstars elsewhere.
It’s enough to make you weep… if you’re a Blues fan that is.

    NATHAN AKE
THE Dutch defender joined Chelsea’s youth ranks from Feyenoord in 2011, before moving to the senior squad a year later.
But Ake made just seven appearances for the Blues in the Premier League and was loaned out to Reading, Watford and Bournemouth.
Ake eventually found a permanent home on the south coast and became a star for the Cherries.
Bournemouth fought hard to keep Ake for three years – in which he played over 100 times in the Premier League.
    Most read in Sport
But with Manchester United and City both knocking, the Cherries eventually cashed in to the tune of £40m following their relegation in the summer.
Now at the Etihad, Ake has helped Guardiola’s City to two Premier League title wins.
    KEVIN DE BRUYNE
NOW quite possibly the best midfielder on the planet, it’s barely-believable De Bruyne was a Chelsea misfit.
Having signed from Belgian side Genk in 2011-12, the now-Manchester City star played just two Premier League games for the Blues.
On the periphery of the first-team squad, De Bruyne was loaned to Werder Bremen, before being sold to Wolfsburg for just £16.7m.
There, De Bruyne’s class shone through and his career took off, joining City for £55million in 2015.
The pass-master has won three Premier League trophies at City in easily the club’s greatest era.
    MOHAMED SALAH
SALAH joined Chelsea from Basel in 2014 – but played just 13 times in the league, scoring twice.
In 2015 and 2016, the Egyptian was loaned out to Fiorentina and Roma – before joining the latter permanently, in a deal worth around £11m.
After just one season in the Italian capital, Liverpool were surprise suitors, bringing Salah back to the Premier League in a deal worth £36.7m.
In his first season at the Reds, Salah broke the Premier League record for most goals in a 38-game season.
In his second campaign, he won the Champions League.
And in his third, Salah inspired Liverpool to Premier League success.
Salah is now easily ranked as one of the world’s best forwards – and will always be the one who got away from Chelsea.

    DECLAN RICE
THE England international and his family were all huge Blues and he must have thought he was well on his way of achieving his childhood dream of playing for them when he was signed to their academy.
But the midfielder was released by Chelsea aged 14 back in 2013.
The determined star was not to be deterred, and after a successful trial, he was quickly snapped up by West Ham.
Rice has not looked back since and has progressed through the ranks in East London and broke into their first-team at the end of the 2016-17 season.
He is now the stand-out performer for the Hammers on an almost weekly basis, and one of the first names on the team sheet for England.
Those displays caught the eye of several big boys, including Arsenal and Manchester United, but it is Chelsea who desperately want him to return.

    NEMANJA MATIC
SIGNED from now-defunct Slovak side Kosice in 2009, Matic was tipped to become an attacking midfield superstar at the Blues.
The Serbian midfielder had played just twice in the Premier League and was loaned out to Vitesse in Holland.
But after two years – and a switch to a more defensive role – Matic was sold to Benfica as part of the 2011 deal that saw David Luiz arrive at Stamford Bridge.
But after starring at Benfica, Chelsea splashed out £21m – nearly 20 times what they initially bought him for – to re-sign him in 2014.
Matic would later join Man Utd in 2017 but has now reunited with Jose Mourinho at Roma.

    TARIQ LAMPTEY
THE full-back is another one that got away after his departure from Chelsea in 2020.
He joined their academy aged just eight and won a host of honours alongside the likes of Tammy Abraham and Reece James on their rise through the youth ranks.
Tariq Lamptey has suggested that he moved away from Chelsea in order to take his career to the next level.  The 22-year-old is a product of the Blues youth development system, having joined the club when he was just 8-years-old.
Lamptey was promoted to the Blues first-team in 2019 after the arrival of Lampard in the dug-out.
But he failed to receive as much game time as some of his other fellow academy graduates, making just one Premier League appearance for the club last season.
Brighton came in for Lamptey and Chelsea were happy to do business and cash-in on the youngster for £4m on deadline day.
But since then he has blossomed for the Seagulls with a series of stunning displays, leading to speculation he could even be on the verge of a senior international call-up.
Arsenal were linked with a swoop for the starlet, who Chelsea failed to include a buy-back option as part of his exit, but he committed his future to Brighton last year by penning a new long-term contract.

Explaining his decision to quit Chelsea, he said: “I had to look at where I would get the most football and how I could take my game to the next level.
“I sat down with the coaches, family members and agents and thought about what’s best for me. It was a really tough decision.”
