They had also offered Maguire a £6m payment to leave.
But the former captain is holding out for more than TWICE that with him facing a wage cut to move to The London Stadium.
Maguire would have to reduce his wages from £190,000 a week to £120,000 – which would come to a shortfall of £14.5m over a four-year contract.
He already has two years left of his current deal at Old Trafford which would be worth £19.7million.

So the 30-year-old England international, understandably, does not believe the £6m offer is enough.
He remains unhappy at his treatment at the hands of manager Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman stripped him of the captaincy this summer and handed the armband permanently to Bruno Fernandes.
Maguire only started eight Premier League games under Ten Hag last season.

Yet ahead of the club’s opening game against Wolves, he has challenged the centre-back to fight for his place or go.
Ten Hag said: “For Harry, that is just how I described it. He has to fight for his place.
“He has the ability to be a top class centre back and he is the best for England.
“So why shouldn’t he be the best for us? But he has to prove it.
“When he is not confident enough to fight then he has to go, then he has to make a decision but I’m happy with him.”
Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard is one of the top candidates to replace Maguire.
The French World Cup winner is desperate to move to United.
But Pavard will cost around £35m and Ten Hag will only make the move is Maguire is sold. More

And despite Liverpool agreeing a deal with Brighton, Chelsea swooped in with a Premier League record £115million offer.
Caicedo chose Stamford Bridge over Anfield and after completing a medical, his move will be imminently announced.
But in the midst of the transfer pursuit, Chelsea and Liverpool were also battling to sign Southampton’s Lavia.
And Jurgen Klopp’s side had come to terms over a £60m move.

Although lightening looks to have struck twice as Chelsea convinced the player to join them instead.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea are closing in on a £50m deal plus add-ons.

The Blues tried to sign last summer and had a £50m offer on deadline day rejected as the player only signed weeks earlier.
Chelsea desperately need new recruits following the exits of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante this summer.

And a double swoop for Caicedo and Lavia – totalling around £165m combined – gives Enzo Fernandez new midfield partners.
But it leaves Liverpool short in midfield having lost Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita in the summer.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had confirmed that a deal had been agreed to bring Caicedo to Merseyside.
But he has been left empty handed following Chelsea’s pair of transfer heists.

Ex-Premier League maverick Marko Arnautovic ‘agrees sensational transfer return to former club’

But now he is in line to go back after Bologna agreed an £8.6million transfer with personal terms agreed last week, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Inter have been on the scout for a striker after pulling out of signing Romelu Lukaku, who entered talks with Juventus.
Arnautovic, 34, scored 10 in 21 games last season but suffered a foot injury towards the back end.
The forward made his name in England with Stoke and West Ham, where he infamously forced through a move to the Chinese Super League.

He was with Shanghai Port for two years before moving back to Italy with Bologna in 2021.
Arnautovic was last summer linked with a move to Manchester United, which infuriated the Old Trafford faithful.
After the move broke down, it was speculated that the United board pulled the plug amid supporter backlash.
But Bologna’s director of football, Marco Di Vaio, claimed it was Arnautovic who rejected the move.

Di Vaio told Corriere dello Sport “No, no.
“Manchester United did not back down because of those fans, but only because Arnautovic has understood that he is at the centre of our project now and in the coming years.
“Marko behaved like a true champion, realising what he represents for Bologna as a team and a city.”

How Newcastle could line up at end of transfer window with even stronger XI than team that demolished Aston Villa

NEWCASTLE got their season off to a flying start by hammering Aston Villa 5-1… and their starting XI could get even stronger. The Toon saw summer signings Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes score on their competitive debuts on Saturday night.

And more new players could soon join as manager Eddie Howe looks to bolster his squad ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League.
Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney is on Newcastle’s radar as they explore a potential loan move.
The Gunners would prefer to sell and he could be available for around £30million – although an injury to Jurrien Timber could throw a spanner in the works.
Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella is also an option to compete for the position with Dan Burn due to him dropping down the pecking order under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Newcastle are also looking to add a new centre-back to their squad.
Crystal Palace star Joachim Andersen is supposedly a leading candidate, but the Eagles could demand between £40m and £50m.
The Dane could partner the left-sided defender Sven Botman at the back and rotate with Fabian Schar.
There is plenty of selection dilemmas for Howe elsewhere on the pitch.

Anthony Gordon, Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy and Barnes will battle for roles on the wing.
Alexander Isak scored two excellent goals versus Villa as Callum Wilson showed there is no room for complacency as he also found the back of the net off the subs bench.

But former England keeper McCarthy could be available on a free transfer.
One-cap McCarthy, 33, is now one of the top earners at Southampton following James Ward-Prowse’s move to West Ham.
Despite the former Crystal Palace man having two years left on his deal, it is understood the Saints could allow him to leave for nothing in order to clear his wages.
McCarthy is now firmly second choice to Gavin Bazunu at St Mary’s.

However, he did play the final six games of the Premier League campaign last year as the club were relegated.
Everton face competition from McCarthy’s former club, Crystal Palace.

Chelsea on verge of spending £906MILLION on transfers under Todd Boehly but fans say ’12th position still awaits’

TODD BOEHLY is on the brink of taking his Chelsea spending on transfers to a staggering £906.8million. But fans joked that the mega-money side are still set for another poor season.
Todd Boehly has overseen the mammoth spending spree at Chelsea since buying the club in May 2022Credit: Richard Pelham / The Sun

Boehly bought Chelsea for £4.25billion in May 2022 and wasted no time splashing the cash on new transfers when the window opened.
Nine players signed permanent deals at Stamford Bridge with a further eight stars arriving in West London in January.

And the outrageous spending spree shows no signs of slowing down with another nine new faces confirmed this summer – plus Moises Caicedo will be announced very soon.
The Caicedo deal sees the Blues pay Brighton an eye-watering £115m, a new British transfer record fee.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
That eclipses their own record set in January when they paid Benfica £106m for Enzo Fernandez, although the deal could rise to £110m with add-ons.
The other biggest arrivals over the last year are Raheem Sterling (£47.5m), Marc Cucurella (£62m), Wesley Fofana (£75m), Mykhailo Mudryk (£88m) and Christopher Nkunku (£56m) – again taking into consideration possible extras to supplement the initial costs.
Kalidou Koulibaly, Benoit Badiashile and Noni Madueke all cost £35m with Malo Gusto (£30.7m), Nicolas Jackson (£30m) and debutant goalscorer Axel Disasi (£38m) also joining for big money.
The Blues spent £25m on new goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from Brighton with Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga both leaving through the exit door.

Gabriel Slonina (£12.6m), Carney Chukwuemeka (£20m), Cesare Casadei (£12m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12m), Andrey Santos (£11m), David Fofana (£10.5m), Angela Gabriel (£13m) and Lesley Ugochukwu (£23.5m) all commanded eight-figure transfer fees.
And Jimmy-Jay Morgan (£6m), Ishe Samuels-Smith (£4m) and freebies Alex Matos, Omari Hutchinson and Diego Moreira have also linked up with the Chelsea youth set-up to complete the 26 permanent arrivals in the Boehly era before Caicedo follows.
Dujuan Richards will also arrive from Phoenix Academy in October when the Jamaican striker turns 18.
Koulibaly and Aubameyang have already been sold with striker Fofana, Gabriel, Slonina and Hutchinson all out on loan this term.
Chelsea are now just £93.2m shy of spending £1billion on incoming signings in just three windows – and pipping Liverpool to Romeo Lavia would put them even closer to that landmark figure.
However, the club have generated £1.2bn in sales since 2013-14 – including £208m this season with the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount leaving.
    PAY THE PRICE?
But rival supporters are still unsure Boehly’s toy shop spending is guaranteed to translate into success on the pitch.
Mauricio Pochettino’s new side – who have no European football this season – drew 1-1 with Liverpool on the opening weekend of the new campaign and have a favourable run of fixtures.
But one Twitter user joked: “12th position still awaits them.”
Another said: “This is ridiculously ridiculous. It would be a very big shame if they end up not winning all the available trophies this season.”

A third added: “They now have to win the league to justify that amount of spending as if City or anyone else did, we would all be saying the same. No excuses win the league or it’s a failure.”
And a fourth simply wrote: “This just ridiculous.”

Former captain Maguire looks set to leave Old Trafford this summer.

It is claimed the defender will push hard to complete the move – although the two clubs are yet to agree a fee.
