And now his son could make the same switch to the City Ground.
According to The Athletic, Forest are considering a swoop for his son Sydney.
Van Hooijdonk Jr is enjoying a fine season on loan at Heerenveen from Bologna.
His 16 goals in 31 games have helped propel the Dutch outfit to ninth in the Eredivisie.

But when he returns to his parent club in the summer, the 23-year-old striker is expected to be available for transfer.
It is unclear if Forest will definitely go in for the 6ft 3ins striker but the report could face competition for his signature with SunSport revealing interest from Stoke, Swansea, Cardiff and Millwall.
But the emotional ties to the club could sway a battle in the East Midlanders’ favour.
Dad Pierre scored 41 goals in 77 games for Forest and helped the club to promotion to the Premier League.

However, he went on strike over a disagreement about his future.
And although he did return to the team, Forest were relegated and Van Hooijdonk Sr left.
But there does not seem to be too much bad blood between the family and the club.
Van Hooijdonk Jr got himself a ticket for last year’s Championship play-off final at Wembley.
Forest beat Huddersfield to return to the top flight for the first time in 23 years.
Despite making 29 signings, Steve Cooper’s side are at serious risk of relegation.
They sit 18th in the table, level on points with Everton but face a tough run-in.
Should they go down, though, they could turn to another Van Hooijdonk to fire them back to the Premier League again. More

Newcastle set to rip up cautious transfer approach and break bank with Declan Rice among four ‘elite’ signings targeted

NEWCASTLE are set to abandon their cautious approach to the summer transfer market by signing four “elite” stars, according to reports. A massive outlay of around £250million across the last three transfer windows gave rise to the club’s owners wanting to err on the side of caution to stay within Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

However, the rapid progress made under Eddie Howe has seen this plan scrapped.
According to The Telegraph, Howe and director of football Dan Ashworth put an argument to the owners that now was the time to be bold and consolidate their progress.
This argument has won out, with sources both inside and outside of the club said to be anticipating a rise in revenue streams thanks to European Football.
With this, Newcastle’s new aggressive strategy will see them target at least four elite stars.

Just one player has left for serious money since the club was brought out by Saudi Arabian’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), that being Chris Wood for £12m.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta overheard revealing Lionel Messi transfer plan at LaLiga clash vs Getafe

The result saw the Catalan giants’ lead at the top of LaLiga cut to 11 points with Real Madrid beating Cadiz.
But more importantly, it could have revealed the grand designs Laporta has to bring Messi back to the Nou Camp this summer, with initial contact already made.
The 60-year-old posed for photographs with Barca supporters.
And as he was doing so, one said to him: “Messi to Barca.”

Laporta replied with a smile and a wink and simply said: “Yes.”
Now Barcelona fans are convinced the video circulating online is proof their club will try and re-sign Messi.
    One said: “It’s happening.”
Another wrote: “He is coming home.”

A third added a video of Thomas Tuchel celebrating wildly down the touchline.
But others are less convinced – after Laporta suggested Messi would not leave in 2021.
One replied: “This guy is really good at PR and cheated Messi before. I don’t think he is reliable.”
And a final user commented: “Until I see Messi in Barca shirt, I don’t believe anything.”
Messi, 35, left Barcelona in tears when his contract expired in 2021 but could not sign an extension due to the LaLiga club’s financial woes and Spanish employment law preventing a major wage cut.
Instead he signed a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
But with that deal running out at the end of this season, his future is still unclear.

There has reportedly been offers from Inter Miami as well as Saudi Arabia to try and lure Messi to a new market.
However, Barcelona fans would be delighted to see their former captain, record appearance maker and record goalscorer return to the club he first joined aged 13.
