Man Utd ‘want to trigger Kim Min-jae’s bargain release clause but face transfer battle with two Premier League rivals’

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly interested in triggering the release clause of Napoli star Kim Min-jae, but will have to fend off a lot of competition. The Mail Online has reported that the Red Devils are among three Premier League clubs who are keen on a move for the centre-back.
Kim Min-jae has managed two league goals from centre-half in the league this season
The 26-year-old is rumoured to be interested in a move to the English top flight and will have plenty of options if his clause is triggered.
United are said to be joined in the chase for the South Korea international by Liverpool and Tottenham.
Kim has been a crucial part of Napoli’s impressive campaign this season.
He has featured 36 times for the club already as they sit 16 points clear at the top of Serie A with a Champions League quarter-final tie with AC Milan to come.

The former Fenerbahce defender joined the Italians in the summer for a modest £16million, but is understood to be valued significantly higher now.

Napoli could try to remove the clause by offering Kim a fresh set of terms despite his recent arrival.

PSG ‘set to ditch Newcastle transfer target Ekitike after just 12 months’ putting Premier League clubs on alert

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN are tipped to offload Newcastle target Hugo Ekitike after ONE season. The French striker, 20, has also previously been linked with Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan.
Hugo Ekitike has struggled to unseat PSG’s famous trip of frontmen and it’s thought PSG could transfer-list him in the summerCredit: AFP
PSG landed the Under-20 international on loan from Reims last summer.
That deal means the Ligue 1 leaders have to buy him at the end of the season, but Le Parisien suggest he will then be transfer-listed.
Ekitike has, unsurprisingly, struggled to displace Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar up front.
But many pundits have been disappointed by his efforts.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Ekitike has managed just four goals in 27 matches across all competitions for PSG.
Boss Christophe Galtier admitted the 6’2″ frontman was unhappy with his “limited playing time”.
Galtier said earlier this term: “I told him that I was in part responsible, but that he was also responsible.
“When you have the attacking trio that we have at PSG that requires a lot of commitment and resilience and you have to keep going.

“Clearly, he is a talented player, who must make up for his lack of game time in training.
“We have said that he must work more, must bring more intensity so that when he comes on, he can add more. He has lost confidence because he hasn’t played much.”
Ekitike is thought to have rejected a £33million Toon bid ahead of his move to PSG.
And Erik Ten Hag’s United were reportedly in contention to sign him last summer. More

But he is already heavily linked with a return to the Premier League as Spurs search for someone to replace the departed Conte.
Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter have all been mooted as potential options.
But Rodgers is the frontrunner and could bring several Leicester players with him should he arrive in North London.
Among them is midfielder Youri Tielemans, 25 – who is out of contract and expected to depart in the summer.

Harvey Barnes, 25, is another talented operator who could be looking for a move, particularly if Leicester fail to avoid relegation.
The Foxes sit two points adrift of safety with ten games to play.
And Spurs could be searching for more attacking options if Harry Kane departs in the summer.
Tottenham’s record goalscorer is being heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

That could mean Spurs look for a different type of forward option in the form of No10 James Maddison, 26.
Conte’s 3-4-3 formation meant there was no place for a playmaker behind Kane, but Rodgers reverting to a back four could create a spot for the England international.
And Maddison is a player Spurs may try to sign whether Kane leaves or not as he can play on the right or off of the striker.
Then, outside of the Leicester contingent, Brentford keeper David Raya is a name Spurs are reportedly monitoring.
The Spaniard, 27, is a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris – who is preparing to enter the final 12 months of his deal.

Arsenal flop Sanogo reveals stunned reaction to Wenger transfer phone call after ‘two years of problems’ at Auxerre

FORMER Arsenal forward Yaya Sanogo has revealed the shock phone call he received from Arsene Wenger before joining the North London giants.Sanogo, 30, signed for the Gunners from Auxerre on a free transfer in 2013 after his deal with the Ligue 2 side expired.

Arsenal’s interest stemmed from a one-week period in which the striker netted seven goals in two games – four against Stade Lavollais and a hat-trick against Tours FC.
It did not work out for Sanogo at the Emirates as he ended up playing just 20 times and scoring one goal under Wenger before leaving for Toulouse in 2017.
But he still looks back fondly on his first conversation with the iconic French coach.
It came after his remarkable goalscoring week as Sanogo was left in utter disbelief that Wenger was calling him – just months after he had returned from a lengthy period out injured.

Speaking to Masterclass Media, he said: “For all the problems I’d had, the phone wouldn’t ring for two years. But after my seven goals in two games, Arsene Wenger calls me.
“I had a little Motorola, I promise you I had that phone. I was at home using my Macbook and I saw +44. I’m thinking ‘What is this number?’ So I don’t answer, but he called again.
“I say ‘Hello’. ‘Hello, it’s Arsene Wenger’. I thought it was a joke.
“I say ‘Yes?’ ‘It’s Yaya Sanogo?’ I say ‘Yes’. And I don’t speak.

“He tells me ‘Everybody is talking about you, seven goals in one week, not many players have done it’. And I told him ‘Yes, thank you, that’s nice’. But I didn’t know what to say.
“He told me ‘I see you are shy. I’m getting my plane and I want to meet you. I don’t know if you care, I know there’s a lot of clubs that want you, especially after the week you had. Would you be interested to meet me in Paris?’
“I said ‘Yes’ but I don’t realise. I think it’s amazing. He asked me when it’s OK to come to Paris and he hung up.
“I’m saying ‘Wait, wait, it was really Wenger?’ I had two years of problems. Six, seven games [later], Wenger calls me. I’ll sign right now.”
Sanogo, who received a 2014 FA Cup winner’s medal, had disappointing loan spells at Crystal Palace, Ajax and Charlton before permanently leaving Arsenal for Toulouse.
He netted 16 times in 72 games for the Ligue 1 side across a three-year spell.
He then joined Championship club Huddersfield in 2021 but played just nine games and failed to find the back of the net.
After leaving Huddersfield, he enduring 18 months without a club, finally penning a contract with Armenian Premier League side Urartu in January.

Nottingham haven’t won any of their last seven league matches, of which they lost four, and owner Evangelos Marinakis is said to be concerned by the team’s performances and results.
Another poor evening could spell disaster for Cooper less than a year after he led the Tricky Trees back to the Premier League.
Vieira is reportedly a leading contender to take over at the City Ground shortly after his own dismissal from Crystal Palace.
The French tactician was sacked just three weeks ago after a run of nine league games without a win that left Palace just above the relegation zone.

The 46-year-old was replaced by Roy Hodgson – the same manager he succeeded in 2021 when he arrived at Selhurst Park.
Despite him getting the boot, Forest appear to still admire Vieira after his impressive debut season that saw him lead the Eagles to 12th place.
The former France international looks set for a quick Prem return regardless of what Marinakis decides to do as other clubs are also keeping tabs.
Cooper came close to the sack in October after a 4-0 hammering by Leicester.

But the Greek supremo opted to award the Welshman with a new contract instead.
Marinakis saw his other club Olympiacos lose their third manager of the season on Monday when Michel resigned.
The Spanish head coach left just a few months after the sacking of Pedro Martins and Carlos Corberan, who moved to West Brom.
The reigning Greek champions look set to be led by football director Jose Anigo until the end of the season. More
