Boss Mikel Arteta has successfully deployed centre-half Ben White in the position for most of this campaign.
But Arsenal are keen to recruit a more attacking option ahead of next season.
According to Sky Germany, Baku has impressed Gunners scouts this term.

The 25-year-old will have just two years remaining on his contract with the German outfit come the end of the season.
And he could be available for just £13million.

The four-cap Germany international has scored five goals in 26 appearances this season.
All five of his strikes came in a sensational six-game winning streak either side of the World Cup.
Despite that run, Wolfsburg sit ninth in the Bundesliga table.
Baku has played 105 times since moving from Mainz in 2020, scoring 16 goals and laying on 14 assists in that time.
In addition to White, the Gunners still have Takehiro Tomiyasu as a right-back option.
But the 24-year-old has largely fallen out of favour this season, starting just six Premier League games.
The Japanese international was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign last month after suffering a knee injury.

SunSport told you last month the Manchester City legend was a surprise name on Levy’s shortlist.
But Spurs chiefs have received glowing reports after a stunning season saw the Clarets promoted in record time.
And Kompany is increasingly seen as the manager who can give the club a new dimension.
Spurs have watched how Mikel Arteta has transformed bitter rivals Arsenal into Premier League title contenders having spent three years working as Pep Guardiola’s No 2 at City.

Kompany spent the same amount of time as captain under Guardiola before becoming Anderlecht manager in 2019.
He won two of his four Premier League crowns with Guardiola — who has tipped him as a future Etihad boss.
Spurs are also considering Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Brendan Rodgers, Arne Slot and their former chief Mauricio Pochettino.
But, crucially for Levy, Kompany made Burnley the Championship’s most entertaining side after putting almost a whole new squad together.

And Kompany is believed to be ready to listen if Spurs make a move as he fears the Clarets may not have the funds to tackle the Prem.
Levy wants to get a new boss lined up quickly with Harry Kane’s future again in doubt and the club facing a battle to finish in the top four.
They are three points behind Newcastle and Manchester United but have played a game more.
Conte was sacked in March after weeks of uncertainty.
The final straw came when the Italian boss, 53, launched an astonishing attack on his ‘selfish’ Spurs flops after the 3-3 draw at Southampton.
His assistant Cristian Stellini has become the acting head coach at Tottenham for the remainder of the season.
Former Premier League midfielder Ryan Mason is the Italian’s assistant head coach as the pair look to rejuvenate Spurs and finish in this season’s Champions League spots.

Despite an impressive return from injury, interim boss Frank Lampard then caused a stir when he left the star out of the team for last weekend’s defeat at Wolves.
Kante has been recalled to the side for Chelsea’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash at Real Madrid tonight.
His future, however, has been back in the headlines ahead of the showdown with the LaLiga giants.
The former Leicester City ace will become a free agent this summer when his current deal expires in June.

We have reported previously how he looks set to pen a new two-year extension to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Le Parisien have now claimed that a source from the player’s camp has told them that now looks like the likely scenario.
But they have also dropped a transfer bombshell by claiming that Chelsea’s bitter rivals Arsenal are also attempting to hijack those plans and snatch him on a freebie.
The Kante representative was quoted as saying: “N’Golo would like to stay in London, where he has his habits.

But he could be available on a free transfer in the summer despite penning a deal until 2026 last September.
Barcelona’s financial issues means Gavi has been stripped of his contract and squad number and re-registered as an academy player on his previous contract.
And it appears Boehly is trying to take advantage of his contract situation by luring the midfielder to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have reportedly held talks with Gavi’s agent Ivan de la Pena.

And now Boehly is set to meet with his parents to outline Chelsea’s plans for the 18-year-old and their desire to make him a key part of the team, report AS.
The Blues hope to pinch Gavi away from the Nou Camp on a free but it is believed the youngster would rather stay at Barca.
However that could prove impossible if the Blaugrana are unable to cut a significant chunk off their wage bill.
Chelsea could offer much more than Barca and could hand Gavi a huge signing-on fee.

And if the West Londoners were to bring in ex-Spain boss Luis Enrique as manager for next season, that could further sweeten the deal.
