Arsenal legend names three players Mikel Arteta HAS to sign this summer to launch another Premier League title bid

ARSENAL legend Bacary Sagna has told Mikel Arteta to sign West Ham’s Declan Rice, Leicester’s James Maddison and Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse.The Gunners launched an unexpected Premier League title bid but ultimately let a commanding lead slip as Manchester City finished five points clear.

Sagna suggested the North Londoners could finish the job next season if they sign the right players in the upcoming summer transfer window.
And the former right-back believes Maddison as well as Ward-Prowse would be a good start after their clubs got relegated.
Arsenal tried to land Maddison in 2021 and may rekindle their interest as he is set to leave Leicester with a release clause in the region of £40million and his contract running out next year.
Ward-Prowse is also ready to depart after 12 years at St Mary’s with Southampton not willing to accept anything less than £40m ahead of a summer rebuild.

Sagna told SunSport, via Lord Ping, when asked who Arsenal need to sign: “James Maddison from Leicester. I also really like Ward-Prowse. He is a player that can change a game on his own.
“Every team needs a player that can change a game in a heartbeat. You know when Arsenal used to play Stoke, Rory Delap was a player that could change a game on his own because of his long throws.
“Ward-Prowse is a master at set pieces. When a game is locked and you have a player with his ability, that is so dangerous.
“His free-kicks are the best in the league. I am not saying that he would start every game, but if you added him from the bench with 15 or 20 minutes to go, he would make the difference.

“You need players like that in your team. His free-kicks are ridiculous. He takes them for fun.”
Sagna also insists Arsenal should do all they can to land priority target Rice if Granit Xhaka leaves.
Xhaka appears set to move away from the Emirates after seven years of service with Bayer Leverkusen showing immense interest.
Sagna is adamant the Switzerland international must be replaced by a player of Rice’s calibre.

The ex-France international believes the England star would flourish under Arteta as he would have more freedom in midfield than he does at West Ham while playing with “better players”.
Sagna added: “I think he would play with more freedom at Arsenal than he currently enjoys at West Ham.
“I think he will find himself in situations where he will have the opportunity to add more goals to his game because he will be receiving better service at Arsenal and he will be playing with better players who will be able to find him like Odegaard.
“I think that the only way for Arsenal to allow Xhaka to leave is by signing Declan Rice. If Xhaka leaves, then I would hope Arsenal may very well have something lined up with Rice.” More

And while other clubs are also in the hunt for the pair, SunSport understands it is Spurs and the Toon who are pushing hardest.
Both are expected to command fees of around £40million, with England star Maddison out of contract at the end of next season.
Though the Foxes would hope any kind of bidding war would drive up the price further.
Leicester would prefer quicker sales so they can put any cash raised towards rebuilding their squad to take on the Championship next term.

Youri Tielemans and Caglar Soyuncu are leaving on free transfers when their contracts expire at the end of next month.

The 26-year-old had a stellar season despite his club’s demise, scoring ten goals and grabbing nine assists in the Premier League. He also earned an England recall.
Barnes, 25, hit double figures in the league with 13 strikes.
Newcastle are mindful of FFP rules despite their Saudi oil rich reserves, though they have the added advantage of qualifying for the Champions League.
Spurs failed to qualify for Europe at all, finishing eighth, and have no permanent manager or director of football in post.
Cristian Stellini, who was assistant to Antonio Conte before taking over himself on an interim basis when Conte left in March, only to be axed himself a month later, spoke glowingly of Maddison in February.
The Italian, 48, said: “We like Maddison as a player.
“He is an important player in this league, a player with an important type of skill, like his delivery, his cross, his right foot is a very important foot so he shoots, he crosses, he takes the set-pieces.
“When you feel how important this type of skill is, for sure you like this type of player. He’s a player with talent.” More

Partey and his team-mates led the Premier League for a record length this term but were still pipped to the title by Manchester City.
That was still enough to secure Mikel Arteta’s team a return to the Champions League but the Spanish coach is reportedly still set to overhaul his squad over the summer.
Midfield is believed to be one of the key areas he wants to strengthen with West Ham’s Declan Rice believed to be a top target.
Despite failing to land him in January, Brighton star Moises Caicedo is another that Arsenal could also move for.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Emirates chiefs will give Arteta a transfer budget of around £180m to bring in new recruits plus any money generated from player sales.
Fellow midfielder Granit Xhaka seems certain to be leaving for Bayern Leverkusen.
Meanwhile Gunners left-back Kieran Tierney looks set to depart to the Emirates over the coming weeks.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is allegedly hoping for a reunion with the Scottish ace while Newcastle are also keen on the ex-Celtic man.

And the Mail claims that back-up defender Rob Holding could also depart.
However, this fresh update also added a fourth name of potential departures – and they say that Partey may be sold to boost transfer funds.
But supporters were fuming to discover that and instantly took to Twitter to demand that the club hang on to the ex-Atletico Madrid man, who arrived in North London back in 2020 for £45m.
One fan reacted to the news by fuming: “Don’t even try selling Partey.”
A fellow Gooner demanded: “Keep a hold of Partey, he was immense for most of the season!”
That argument continued as supporters continued to flood in with another asking: “Selling Partey will be a big mistake for a club hoping to win trophies next season.”
Another wrote: “He [Partey] has been the engine of our team backed by [Granit] Xhaka, he understands our style of play, why sale him to buy players who may not fit in?”
A fellow fan told club chiefs: “There’s no way we can let Partey leave!!! I don’t care if we get both Rice and Caicedo.”

A host more echoed those thoughts as another wrote: “Can’t sell Partey no way. He’s world class for 30 games a season just need to manage his minutes.”
And another went as far to say: “The moment Thomas Partey departs. . .I denounce this team, tell me the game we lost (aside City at Emirates) with Partey on.” More

Cancelo, 29, helped Bayern win the Bundesliga at the weekend but has had a mixed spell at the Allianz Arena.
And the decision has been taken by boss Thomas Tuchel and the club not to extend his stay in Bavaria.
City chief Pep Guardiola gave him the green light to move after the defender lost his starting place and made his feelings known.
Cancelo’s chances of forcing his way back into the reckoning at the Etihad appear slim as the side have coped well without him.

Erik ten Hag opens door to Harry Maguire transfer exit as boss tells benched defender to make ‘decision’ on future

ERIK TEN HAG has opened the door for Harry Maguire to leave Manchester United.Club captain Maguire has found game time limited this season due to the preference of Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof at right centre-back ahead of him.

Even full-back Luke Shaw has been more readily utilised as a left centre-back when Lisandro Martinez is not fit, rather than Maguire being deployed there.
Indeed, of the 16 Premier League games the 30-year-old played in, only half saw him named in the starting XI.
Talking to The Times about Maguire’s place in the squad, Ten Hag said: “Yes, but he has high competition there with Raphaël Varane [at centre back], who’s fantastic. That describes everything.
“No one would be happy with this situation [on the bench].

“He is not as well. He trains always on [the] best levels, so with 100 per cent effort.
“So he handles that situation well and he’s in that manner and in his captaincy he’s important for the squad.”
Following his fall down the pecking order, Ten Hag believes Maguire has a “decision” to make on his future.
When asked whether the former Leicester star would stay at Old Trafford beyond the summer, the Dutchman replied: “Let’s say I’m happy he’s here and when we needed him he did his job.

“But it’s also a decision he has to make.”
After calling Maguire up for his latest International squad, Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate warned Maguire: “It’s not a situation that can continue forever.”
In his interview, Ten Hag also spoke about the likes of David de Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jadon Sancho, detailing their progression throughout the season.
The former Ajax boss also called on the club to back him in the summer market, after failing to invest in January with the ownership of the club still up in the air.
He said: “When you see the investment in the Premier League — [in the] summer window we did [spend] as well, to be fair.
“In the winter window, we didn’t do anything. We had loan players [Wout Weghorst, Marcel Sabitzer and Jack Butland] but when you look around, all the other clubs invested to be in the top four and we didn’t invest.
“You can’t ignore that. If you want to be competitive in this league, you have to invest. I need signings, yes.”
Ten Hag also appeared to hint Mason Greenwood, who saw attempted rape and assault charges dropped in February, could sensationally stay at United.

It came on the topic of needing more firepower, with Ten Hag saying Greenwood “showed in the past that he is capable” of performing the striker role.
