Mauricio Pochettino confirms Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea career is over as he says ‘everybody agrees’ on transfer

MAURICIO POCHETTINO has poured cold water on the possibility for Romelu Lukaku to reignite his Chelsea career.Blues boss Poch left out several key names from his 29-man United States touring group this pre-season as he continues his epic squad streamlining in West London.

Romelu Lukaku has been told he has no future at the West London clubCredit: Getty
He has overseen a mass departure this summer with ELEVEN outgoings so far, including Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, Kai Havertz and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, as well as Christian Pulisic, Cesar Azpilicueta, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy.
Meanwhile, Lukaku, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi are continuing their summer conditioning back in England with the expectation they will leave the club.
Following his arrival at Stamford Bridge, Poch revealed he wanted Lukaku to arrive at pre-season on time ahead of a conversation about his future at the club.
However, it now seems Lukaku is destined to play his football away from Chelsea this upcoming season, with both Serie A giants Inter Milan and Juventus linked.

Asked about his decision to keep Lukaku and his three teammates at home, Poch explained: “It is the club and of course it is an interesting situation.
“When this type of decision is [made, it is] because they all agree. The player and club are working hard to try and find best solution.”
Poch continued: “It is obvious the decision had been made on the side of the player also. We act in consequence of the decision. The club and player are in the position they wanted.”
Lukaku – who re-signed for Chelsea from Inter for a club-record £97m in the summer of 2021 – is determined to return to Italy where he spent last campaign on loan with the Nerazzurri, scoring 14 goals in 37 outings and reaching the Champions League final.

Chelsea were originally keen to offloads Lukaku to the Saudi Super League, along with the likes of former stars N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy.
However, Lukaku has no interest in playing in Saudi Arabia, despite the hefty wage increase.
Poch also has a decision to make on defender Levi Colwill, who spent last season on loan with Brighton and is wanted back by the Seagulls, seeing a £30m bid recently turned down.
Wesley Fofana’s recent operation on a ruptured ACL leaves the Argentine coach short at the back, and he has made it clear he expects Colwill to fight for his place instead of leaving.
On Colwill, Poch said: “We were talking. It was a nice talk. It is important that they need to know us.
“To know what we think, to see that the competition will be tough but to challenge for that and know they can be in the starting XI because football is about competing.
“They understood and we understood what they wanted to translate to us. All is clear and we are happy with all the players we have in the USA.” More

Andre Onana flies in to complete Man Utd transfer TODAY… but deal leave Ten Hag with just £20m to spend on striker

Boss Erik ten Hag is hoping he might even be able to join his squad by the time they jet out to start their American tour after tonight’s friendly with Lyon in Edinburgh.
First, however, a visa must be arranged for the 27-year-old, who will cost the Red Devils £43.8m up front with the rest of the fee based on add-ons.
Ten Hag made him a priority after former  No 1 David de Gea left on a free transfer at the end of last month following a 12-year stay and 545 appearances.
Cameroonian Onana had already agreed wages of around £200,000 a week before he said goodbye to Inter team-mates yesterday and headed for the airport.

He will be re-united with Ten Hag having picked up three Eredivisie titles under the  manager before he left Ajax on a free transfer just a year ago.
Onana, who quit international football in December after  falling out with Cameroon boss Rigobert Song at the World Cup, is Ten Hag’s second major  signing of the summer following Mason Mount’s £55m arrival.
The Dutchman will now turn his full attention to the capture of Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund.
The Italian club initially demanded a whopping £86m for the 6ft 3in Danish striker, who has played just 87 senior games and scored nine goals in 32 appearances last season.

But the Old Trafford outfit are growing confident they can get the price down to around £60m including add-ons for the 20- year-old.
Onana’s arrival, coupled with Mount’s fee, means Ten Hag has already splurged £98.8m of his  transfer budget, which is limited to £120m
But he hopes to make up the difference for Hojlund in player sales with Harry Maguire, Anthony Elanga, Alex Telles, Scott McTominay and Dean  Henderson all available.
And he expects to get up to £10m for full-back Telles.
A deal is all but agreed with Al-Nassr, where he will link up again with ex-United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, with the 30-year-old already understood to have struck personal terms.
Goalkeeper Henderson’s move to Nottingham Forest has stalled after a offer of £10m was rejected.
But the clubs are still expected to agree on a higher fee, especially as Onana is set to become United’s new No 1. More

But relieved boss Erik ten Hag will believe he is worth every penny after months of wrangling with his previous contract due to run out in just under eleven months.
Upon signing his new deal, Rashford said: “I joined Manchester United as a seven-year-old boy with a dream. That same passion, pride, and determination to succeed still drives me every time I have the honour of wearing the shirt.
“I’ve already had some amazing experiences at this incredible club, but there is still a lot more to achieve and I remain relentlessly determined to win more trophies in the years ahead.
“As a United fan all my life, I know the responsibility that comes with representing this badge and feel the highs and lows as much as anyone.

“I can assure you that I will give everything to help the team reach the level we are capable of, and I can feel the same determination around the dressing room.
“I couldn’t be more excited for the future under this manager.”
The 25-year-old flirted with Paris Saint-Germain during long-running negotiations.
And a clutch of mega-wealthy Saudi clubs were waiting to pounce for the front man who blasted back to form last season after suffering two years of injuries with 30 goals in 56 games.

While he always wanted to re-commit himself to the club he joined 18 years ago the England star was also determined to vastly increase his £200,000-per-week wage and get something approaching the going rate paid to the game’s biggest names.
Now he is the fourth-highest earner in England behind top-paid Manchester City striker Erling Haaland who can earn up to £865,000 a week with bonuses.
Haaland’s club mate Kevin De Bruyne and Mo Salah at Liverpool rack up £400,000 a week with add-ons although like the Norwegian, Belgian and Egyptian their basic salary is the same as Rashford’s.
Confirmation of his signature on the deal that keeps him at Old Trafford until 2028 came as a double boost to Ten Hag.
Not long before United made the announcement that Rashford had formally signed on again there was news that Andre Onana was flying into Manchester to complete his move from Inter Milan.
The replacement for ex-No1 David de Gea will also sign a five-year contract after a medical tomorrow after the clubs agreed a fee that could total £47.2M with £43.8M up front.
Ten Hag believes that local lad Rashford’s best is yet to come.

Speaking ahead of his side’s final match of the season in May, he said: “Yes, I think there is more to come from Marcus.
“There’s a lot of room for improvement in his game and I’m convinced he can score even more.
“When you take, for instance, the last 10 games he didn’t score many goals.
“I think only two or three, so yes he can improve.
“I am happy about what he has done. He has brought himself back.

“We supported him where we could, with the way we play but also in his mental mindset.

“I think Marcus is capable of scoring 40 goals in a season. For him, that’s the next step.”
Rashford and his United team-mates will kick off their Premier League campaign on August 14 with a home match against Wolves. More

And now he looks on course to be reunited with Alex Telles at the Saudi Pro League side.
According to Fabrizio Romano, United are close to finalising a deal with Al-Nassr for the left-back, with a verbal agreement in place.
It is thought the transfer will be sealed as soon as the documents and final checks are completed.
Al-Nassr also want to land Lens’ former Manchester City academy midfielder Sefo Fofana.

Telles, 30, joined United from Porto in a £15.4million deal in 2020.

Tyrell Malacia also joined the Red Devils last summer, further pushing Telles down the pecking order.

He made 38 appearances for the Spanish giants, including 94 minutes in the Europa League final as they beat Roma on penalties.
But Telles has not reported for pre-season with United and looks set to be sold this summer.
Al-Nassr have already brought in Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic this summer.
The midfielder arrived fresh from reaching the Champions League final with Inter Milan.
But their hopes of signing Hakim Ziyech fell through when he reportedly failed a medical and then refused a major pay cut.
However, Al-Nassr were hit with a ban on registering new players by Fifa after refusing to pay £390,000 in add-ons they owe Leicester City for Ahmed Musa, who left the Foxes in 2018.
And their pre-season woes took another hit when Ronaldo’s side were stuffed 5-0 in a friendly against Celta Vigo.

Verratti would be a quality addition into the midfield, especially following Ilkay Gundogan’s departure and the failure to land Declan Rice – although City have landed Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea.
Kimpembe – a former Chelsea target – does have a World Cup winner’s medal but would not be a significant improvement on Ruben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Ake, Aymeric Laporte or Manuel Akanji.
PSG have already brought in midfielders Marco Asensio, Manuel Ugarte, Lee Kang-in and teenager Cher Ndour.
Hugo Ekitike, Milan Skriniar and Lucas Hernandez also joined the reigning French champions.
