However, the Argentine tactician also lost Gabriel Slonina, who joined Eupen on loan.
Pochettino addressed the club’s continuing search for another goalkeeper before Sunday’s Premier League clash at West Ham.

New England Revolution have already rejected bids from Nantes and Nottingham Forest, who ultimately got Petrovic’s predecessor Matt Turner from Arsenal.
They insisted they didn’t want to lose their No1 before the end of the season and the summer transfer window in the MLS is now closed.
But Petrovic is keen to move to Stamford Bridge this summer and fight for a place between the sticks.
Revolution, who can still sign free agents, are preparing for the worst and are thus keeping tabs on Josh Cohen after an impressive season with Maccabi Haifa. More

Ange Postecoglou gives Spurs fans the transfer update NONE of them want to hear after Harry Kane exit

The star striker left North London as the team’s record goalscorer after a staggering 280 goals in 435 appearances.
But Postecoglou has stated he is not searching for the England captain’s successor after starting Richarlison up front during Tottenham’s Premier League kick-off at Brentford.
The Australian tactician has instead prioritised outgoings as his squad is “too big” and won’t sign players “for the sake of it”.
Postecoglou said: “We can’t just keep acquiring players when we’ve got too big of a squad as it is at the moment.

“It affects your training, it affects players themselves because ultimately they want to play and be involved.
“It’s not so much one has to happen for the other but our focus at the moment is to try to trim the squad down and then see where that takes us in terms of reinforcements.
“We’re constantly assessing that on a daily basis and there’s still two weeks to go in the window. I’m sure you’ll see some movements.”
Postecoglou prefers to reinforce in defence and midfield ahead of transfer deadline day on September 1.

That’s after Tottenham signed James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Alejo Veliz, Manor Solomon and Guglielmo Vicario.
Postecoglou said when asked if a new striker is the club’s priority after Kane’s departure: “No, not necessarily.
“I know that’s kind of the obvious place where people look at because of our recent outgoings but obviously we’ve been planning for that for a while.
“There are other areas we can strengthen. Defensively, midfield, upfront.

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag sends blunt message to Harry Maguire after West Ham snub with defender set to be FIFTH choice

That almost led the centre-back to a move to West Ham, but a deal collapsed due to his financial demands.
The Hammers had a £30million bid accepted by United and the transfer was all sorted.
However, as revealed by SunSport, the England international told the Red Devils he wanted £15m as he would surrender his £190,000-a-week contract for reduced £120,000 weekly wages in East London.
David Moyes’ side grew so frustrated with waiting for the 30-year-old to secure a pay-out from the Manchester giants that they walked away from negotiations and turned to other targets, such as Konstantinos Mavropanos.

Thus, Maguire is likely to stay and fight for a place in Ten Hag’s starting line-up this season.
However, the Dutch tactician sent the defender a blunt message insisting that he will have to step up his game.
Ten Hag said: “It’s up to him. He knows what I expect from him. I’ve been here for one year now and you know what I expect from a centre-half.

However, Maguire is facing the prospect of being dumped to fifth choice at centre-back.
Ten Hag started Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane on Monday’s Premier League kick-off against Wolves.
When Martinez was substituted at half-time, the 53-year-old head coach opted for Victor Lindelof.
The ex-Ajax boss often preferred left-back Luke Shaw over Maguire last season as well.

Premier League XI of stars desperate for a transfer to reignite career before the window slams shut including Maguire

WITH the conclusion of the transfer window fast approaching there are a number of Premier League players desperate for a move in order to reignite their career. From World Cup winners falling down the pecking order, to players looking to secure a starting berth for their countries at Euro 2024 – several Premier League stars are in need of a fresh start this summer.
The XI players desperate for a move this summer
Chief among these are the likes of Harry Maguire – who saw a move to West Ham fall through last week over a contract dispute with Manchester United.
There’s also young stars like Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun, who proved his worth with a stellar season on loan at Reims last season but is well down the Gunners’ pecking order.
    GK: Hugo Lloris
Tottenham’s former captain, 36, has seen himself frozen out of Ange Postecoglou’s new look squad.
The French World Cup winner was left out of Spurs’ pre-season tour of Asia with Postecoglou saying he could use that time to find a move.

But despite that not coming to fruition, the legendary goalkeeper has not yet been reintegrated into the squad – with Guglielmo Vicario Spurs’ new first choice.

    DEF: Cedric Soares
Cedric, 32, signed as a back-up right-back for Arsenal in January 2020 from Southampton.
Despite making 59 appearances for the Gunners, he is now deemed surplus to requirements and went on loan to Fulham half way through last season.

    DEF: Harry Maguire
Maguire’s United career gradually fell to tatters last season.
The defender lost his place in the XI and then saw his captaincy stripped away and handed to Bruno Fernandes.
Any hopes of retaining a place in England’s starting XI depend on him playing regular first team football and he is currently United’s fourth choice centre-half.
A move to West Ham fell through last week and he is currently set to spend a season warming the United subs bench.

    DEF: Davinson Sanchez
Sanchez experienced a similarly torrid time last season which saw him booed by his own fans in a 3-2 loss to Bournemouth.
Spurs accepted a bid from Spartak Moscow earlier this window for the defender but Sanchez turned down the move.
There are some green shoots for Sancez however, with the defender impressing in a pre-season friendly against Barcelona and when coming on as a sub in Spurs’ opener against Brentford.
But Spurs would still accept an offer for the right amount.

    DEF: Joao Cancelo
Cancelo was once an untouchable part of City’s XI but a fall out with Pep after last year’s World Cup has seen him lose his place in the side.
He spent the last six months of last season on loan at Bayern Munich but the Bavarian side opted not to make the move permanent – despite him helping them to win the title.
He has attracted interest from Barcelona and Arsenal as he looks to earn first team minutes.

    MID: Kalvin Phillips
Phillips is another player, like Maguire, that will need to earn regular minutes if he wants to start for England at Euro 2024.
He has attracted interest from West Ham as they look for a Declan Rice replacement.

    MID: Conor Gallagher
Gallagher started in Chelsea’s first game against Liverpool and put in an excellent display.
But there’s no way Chelsea will have signed Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia without an expectation that they won’t start – which has pushed him down the pecking order.
The England midfielder may look to move to West Ham or Tottenham as he searches for regular minutes ahead of the Euros.

    MID: Donny van de Beek
Van de Beek arrived at United with high expectations in August 2020 as one of the stars of a talented Ajax team.
But he has never held down a regular starting place for United and spent much of last season injured.
Aged 26, he desperately needs a move to play first team football at this stage of his career.

    FW: Nicolas Pepe
Arsenal paid £72million for Pepe in 2019 and gave him a five year contract on £140,000-a-week – making his signing one of the club’s biggest mistakes in recent years.
The club are desperate to get his wages off the books with his contract set to expire next summer.

    FW: Romelu Lukaku
To say Lukaku’s £80million transfer back to Chelsea hasn’t worked out would be an understatement.
Six months into his second-spell at the club he did an interview with Sky Italia about how he wanted to return to Inter Milan.
Having spent last season on loan at Inter to mixed success – he has been told by new manager Mauricio Pochettino that he has no future at the club.
He’s another player that will want minutes ahead of the upcoming Euros.

City sources have confirmed their interest although it is not yet clear if he would go straight into Pep Guardiola’s squad if they win the race.
Other young players have arrived at the Etihad and been shipped out to join one of the other clubs in the City Football Group stable on loan.
City are likely to be without a senior specialist left-back this season but have options in Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol.
Barco is believed to be keen on finishing the club season with Boca before moving later this year.

Inside Brighton’s money-making scouting system that’s made £369m… with three stars set for massive transfer next

FIRST they came for Ben White and they sold him for £50million.Then they came for Marc Cucurella and they sold him for £60m.

Then they came for their manager and his entire coaching staff, and you know what happened next.
And now they have come for Moises Caicedo and they’ve flogged him for a British transfer record.
If anyone epitomises the concept of Keep Calm and Carry On, it’s Brighton owner Tony Bloom and his chief executive Paul Barber.
Because the remarkable work they are doing in good old Sussex by the sea is an object lesson in how not to make a drama out of a crisis.

Any other club in football would be tearing their hair out at the loss of nine senior players, the manager, technical director and head of recruitment in the space of just two years.
Yet this flock of Seagulls have not only survived the mass exodus, they have actually thrived.
They should have collapsed when Graham Potter packed his bags for the Chelsea circus last September but simply identified an even better coach and have gone from strength to strength under Roberto De Zerbi.
The same thing happened when they sold White, Cucurella, Dan Burn, Neal Maupay, Yves Bissouma and Leandro Trossard.

Now they have cashed in on Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister and Robert Sanchez to take their player sales income over the past couple of years to an extraordinary £368.7M.
And yet they still thrashed newly-promoted Luton 4-1 on the opening day as they look forward to their first ever season in Europe.
The key to everything they do at the Amex is buy low, sell high.
Midfielder Caicedo, 21, was an absolute unknown who cost them £3.6m when they signed him from Independiente del Valle. Now they’ve sold him in a deal that could net them £115m.
Mac Allister arrived unheralded from Argentinos Juniors for £7m and Cucurella cost them £15.4m from Getafe.
Yet these deals flew so far under the radar at the time that even Albion fans didn’t realise what was going on right under their noses.
And that’s not the end of the Amex production line as Kaoru Mitoma, Julio Enciso and Evan Ferguson attract envious glances from Premier League rivals who don’t have the patience to develop their own stars.

Kaoru Mitoma is one of many incredible transfer market finds by Brighton’s recruitment teamCredit: Getty
But everyone knows they are not going to come cheap because Bloom and Barber have forged a well-deserved reputation as the toughest negotiators in the business.
They never haggle and they never blink first.
They simply set a price and stick with it. And it’s proving to be a spectacularly successful tactic.
Southampton learned to their cost last season that it’s all very well to sell your best players but you will eventually come unstuck if you don’t bring in decent replacements.
Brighton are not going to make the same mistake because they are always planning ahead and preparing for any eventuality.
They already know that De Zerbi is top of every other team’s wanted list in the event of them sacking their manager.

Man City’s worst Premier League signings, from flops Boateng and Rodwell to £42m mistake Eliaquim Mangala

MANCHESTER CITY have invested over £1BILLION in the transfer market over the past decade so, naturally, there are going to be some flops. For every David Silva, Yaya Toure, or Erling Haaland there’s also been an Eliaquim Mangala or Jack Rodwell.
Three great signings out of four weren’t bad for Roberto ManciniCredit: EPA
Fortunately for current boss Pep Guardiola, most of the club’s most useless transfers came before the Spaniard brought them continued success.
Here, SunSport details the five WORST signings City have made in the Premier League era….
    Eliaquim Mangala – £42m (2014)
Mangala was strongly criticised by the media during his time at CityCredit: AFP or licensors
Joleon Lescott left the Etihad Stadium after Manuel Pellegrini’s side won the title and Mangala was heralded as a ready-made replacement.
The defender’s first two seasons saw the club drift away from the top of the table and he was often hammered for poor positioning and slow reactions.
A solid loan spell at Valencia earned Mangala momentary reprieve under Guardiola but, after 15 appearances, the new boss binned him off before serious injury struck in a 2018 spell with Everton.Jack Rodwell – £12m (2012)
Injuries curtailed Rodwell’s progressCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd
Rodwell was an up-and-coming star at Everton but became a symbol of City’s trigger-happy stockpiling when jumping ship at the age of 21.
There was a problem, however: City already had an excellent set of central midfielders.
Battling past Yaya Toure, James Milner, David Silva, Samir Nasri, Javi Garcia, Gareth Barry and Fernandinho was too much for Rodwell and he left after two years and just 25 appearances.
    MOST READ IN FOOTBALL
    Jerome Boateng – £10m (2010)
It is painful enough seeing a former player go on to great things but City didn’t even get close to utilising Boateng’s full potential.
Perhaps player and club were doomed from day one, the German tearing a tendon in his knee the week before the season began and aggravating it when a drinks trolley bashed it on a flight.
A year later, Boateng asked to head back home and was allowed to leave for Bayern Munich – going on to win a World Cup, a Champions League and seven Bundesliga titles.
    Jo – £19m (2008)
Jo arrived with a great record for CSKA MoscowCredit: Reuters
A top striker in Russia when snapped up by Mark Hughes, Jo struggled to say the least – scoring once in nine league outings before being moved on six months into his stay.
A brief upturn in form at Goodison Park gave the Citizens some hope of turning a profit… but a dismal 2009-2010 season on Merseyside dropped him back at City.
Failing to take another chance the following season, Jo finally left to return to Brazil, having cost much more than Vincent Kompany and Pablo Zabaleta combined.Wilfried Bony – £25m (2015)
Bony was sent back to Swansea in 2016 but couldn’t find form there, eitherCredit: Getty Images – Getty
Ten goals in 46 games, only six of which came in the league, is a poor record for any striker, but for an expensive forward at a club aiming to win the title? Terrible.
The Prem top scorer for the calendar year of 2014, Bony initially couldn’t play for City due to African Cup of Nations duty and a summer bout of malaria came after a quiet start.
That stunted his hopes for the following year and the club learned their lesson, from then on turning their attention away from signing top players from smaller sides. More

Christian Eriksen made Man Utd transfer U-turn after ‘snubbing club due to promise made to Tottenham chief Daniel Levy’

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN made a Manchester United U-turn after agreeing to join Erik ten Hag’s side on a free transfer last year. The Daily Mail say the creative midfielder made a promise to Tottenham owner Daniel Levy in 2017 that he would not join a London club out of respect for Spurs.

And Eriksen, now 31, apparently extended his promise to all English clubs when United’s interest came out.
Former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was hoping to secure an £80million deal for the playmaker but failed to land his man.
Eriksen handed in a transfer request in 2019 after outlining his desire for a new challenge.
That sparked plenty of interest with both Real and Atletico Madrid joining Juventus in the hunt.
But the Spurs ace eventually joined Inter Milan for £17m in 2020 as his contract began to run down.
After initially struggling, Eriksen found his form under Antonio Conte and helped Inter win their first Serie A title since 2010.

Eriksen was fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator after thankfully making a full recovery.
But the Italian FA said that the Dane would need it to be removed in order to play for Inter again.
After his contract was terminated, he joined Brentford as a free agent and enjoyed a remarkable season for the Bees.
He played 11 games, scoring once and contributing four assists – but left when his six-month contract expired.
Eriksen since joined Man Utd, going back on his promise, but completing an extraordinary comeback to the top of football.
He penned a three-year deal at Old Trafford.
Eriksen is said to have informed United of his desire to join the club, with the midfielder now set for a medical.
The playmaker worked with United boss Ten Hag briefly when he trained with Ajax before making his comeback to football with the Bees.
Last season, Eriksen played 44 times in all competitions scoring twice. More
