Man Utd ‘consider shock Ivan Toney transfer approach in blow to Chelsea pursuit of Brentford star’

MANCHESTER UNITED are considering a shock transfer for Ivan Toney, according to reports. The Red Devils are in the market for a new forward in the summer to compete with Rasmus Hojlund.Ivan Toney is has emerged as a shock target on Man Utd’s radarCredit: RexToney could move to Old Trafford as Man Utd ponder the type of striker they want in the summerCredit: EPAAnd, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, their search may land them on Brentford ace Toney.Toney has made no secret of his desire to leave the Bees for pastures new in the summer. Man Utd are yet to finalise their summer transfer strategy following the investment of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos, who have been handed control over the clubs football operations after a decade of mediocrity under the Glazers.Ratcliffe and his new team are still ironing out certain profiles they want, and are deciding between bringing an experienced or younger frontman.READ MORE ON MAN UTDBut, according to Romano in his daily briefing column for CaughtOffside, Toney’s availability could prompt Man Utd to make a move.Romano said: “It’s just one of the options to be considered and discussed internally. “Man United are still in early stages of the process to decide which striker they want to sign; experienced or young. “Talks are gonna take place internally, Toney will be one of the names available on the market so could be one to watch.”Most read in FootballCASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO WELCOME OFFERSAt the age of 28, Toney would offer a wealth of experience without age being a risk.Arsenal and Chelsea are among the other clubs who have been linked with the star.Inside Ivan Toney’s Life As A FootballerHowever, SunSport understands the Gunners have cooled their interest, leaving the Blues, Tottenham and West Ham as the main parties in the running to have expressed interest. That is of course, barring a move from Man Utd to bring Toney to Old Trafford.Toney unlikely to let opportunity slideBy Charlie Wyett
IVAN TONEY will be backing himself to beat Ollie Watkins in the race to Euro 2024.
Because when it comes to supreme self-confidence, others might call it extraordinary arrogance, Toney gives Zlatan Ibrahimovic — football’s ultimate bighead — a run for his money.
If, heaven forbid, something did happen to Harry Kane ahead of the summer tournament in Germany, Brentford striker Toney would likely see himself the only viable alternative as a replacement No 9.
Equally, if England found themselves in another shootout at this year’s final in Berlin on July 14, most would want the bloke who has scored 35 of his 38 career penalties to be one of Gareth Southgate’s takers.
Aston Villa forward Watkins, 28, is enjoying the best season of his career with 22 goals in all competitions but his Euros trial did not go so well with a disappointing performance in the 1-0 defeat by Brazil on Saturday.
Against Belgium, Toney is unlikely to make the same mistake.
A strong performance could see the Brentford ace continue on his journey from footballing outcast to, potentially, a national hero this summer.

Given Erik ten Hag likes to utilise a physically dominant forward such as Sebastien Haller at Ajax or Wout Weghorst at Man Utd last season, it stands to reason that Toney would compliment the Dutchman’s system. In the meantime, Toney is set to start for England in their friendly against Belgium.Toney returned to football in January following a betting ban.In that time he has netted four goals in ten Premier League games, but blanked in each of his last five. Here’s how Toney has performed this season More

Nottingham Forest ‘approached former Chelsea manager to take over just months after appointing Nuno Espirito Santo’

FORMER CHELSEA boss Maurizio Sarri allegedly rejected an approach from Nottingham Forest this month. The Italian, 65, quit as Lazio manager on March 11 after a dismal run of form left them ninth in Serie A and dumped out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich.A shock report claims that Maurizio Sarri has snubbed Nottingham ForestCredit: ReutersIt says the Italian was wanted to replace Nuno Espirito SantoCredit: PAHowever, now a sensational report from journalist Alfredo Pedulla claims that he was allegedly offered an almost instant return to the dug-out.Despite having Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm, he says that Forest called Sarri and tried to make him their head coach just days after he had decided to leave Lazio “with the request to immediately take over” from the Portuguese tactician.Forest, who are deep in relegation trouble after being hit with a four-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, are said to have offered him a three-year contract. And they also threw in the added incentive of the promise to have “a major transfer next season if they avoided relegation” this term.READ MORE ON FOOTBALLThis shock report says that the ex-Napoli and Juventus chief turned down the proposal due to wanting to take some time out ahead of getting another job next season.SunSport have contacted Forest for comment regarding the shock claims. And Sport Italia have now stated that Sarri, who lifted the Europa League in his one season at Chelsea, could be heading to Fiorentina as Vincenzo Italiano is reportedly going to depart the club at the end of the season.  Espirito Santo was appointed by Forest on a two-and-a-half year contract on December 20 after the much-loved Steve Cooper had been sacked. Most read in FootballBEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS FOR UK BOOKMAKERBut the old Wolves and Tottenham chief’s arrival has failed to transform the club’s form as he has recorded just three wins from his 11 games in charge. That dire run, and the points sanction, have seen Forest drop into the relegation zone and they go into the weekend a point behind Luton. The Premier League’s Top 10 sexiest managers according to AIThe City Ground outfit did admit that they overspent by £34.5million across a three-year period, which led to their punishment being less severe due to their cooperation. But they have vowed to appeal that punishment.A short club statement read yesterday: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that it has today lodged an appeal against the four point sanction imposed by the Commission in relation to the Club’s breach of the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR).“The club will not be making any further statement at this time.”Premier League is now full of asterisksTHE last time Leicester were promoted to the Premier League, they provided English football with its most wondrous miracle.
An improbable relegation jailbreak was followed by a fantastical 5,000-1 Jamie Vardy party, dilly-ding-dilly-dong title-winning campaign, and the entire sporting world marvelled at it.
Except for the Premier League’s elite clubs, who decided this could never happen again.
If the Foxes win promotion from the Championship this season — and they are level on points with leaders Leeds with a game in hand — they are likely to start next season with a points deduction. And possibly a punishment substantial enough to make survival a 5,000-1 shot.
In the era of football’s asterisk invasion, nothing surprises us any longer, as the world’s richest and ‘most competitive’ football league ties itself in knots through Profitability and Sustainability Rules designed to reduce competition.
Everton were deducted ten points, reduced to six on appeal, but are currently immersed in a three-day hearing which might end with them losing more points.
Nottingham Forest are four points down but that figure could be greater or lesser after their appeal.
Luton boss Rob Edwards — whose team are significantly affected by all of this hokey-cokeying — says he works off a different league table, without points deductions, to determine where his side are in the relegation battle.
But in fact, you would need five or six potential league tables to try to work out all potential scenarios.
