    Mystery as Man Utd send scout to watch Porto despite moving on from top transfer target

    MANCHESTER UNITED sent scouts to watch Porto play, according to reports in Portugal. Porto beat Gil Vicente 2-1 with Ivan Jaime and Eustaquio scoring their goals.

    And they did so in front of United officials, Lisbon-based paper A Bola report.
    It is claimed no player in particular were on the scout’s radar.
    But officials were said to be there spying ahead of the January transfer window.
    Erik ten Hag’s side were heavily linked with Porto keeper Diogo Costa as they looked to replace David de Gea in the summer.

    But they ultimately ended up signing Andre Onana for £47million from Inter Milan instead.
    So it could be unlikely that they were keeping tabs on Costa.
    United have suffered injuries at left-back this season with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia out injured.
    They signed Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham as cover but it is possible United were scouting Porto’s Wendell.

    Another Porto player in-demand is striker Mehdi Taremi, who has been linked with Chelsea, Tottenham and United in the past.

    YOUNG Wigan striker Josh Stones is in a tug-of-war between England and Scotland.Leeds-born Stones, 19, has played for England schoolboys — but he also qualifies for Scotland through his grandmother.

    Stones started his career with Yorkshire outfit Guiseley and joined Wigan in the summer of 2022.
    The youngster spent a loan spell with Ross County for the second half of last season.
    During his stint in Scotland, he went on to make six appearances for the club however, he failed to score.
    Stones did enough to impress Wigan, however, as he was handed a fresh three-year contract in the summer.

    This season he has managed to break into the Wigan first team and has made two appearances for the club.
    Stones even bagged his first goal for the Latics during a substitute appearance in the EFL Cup.
    After signing his new deal, club manager Shaun Maloney admitted that the striker has impressed staff with his “personality and intensity”.
    He said: “He has had a slightly different journey than other players in our Academy, but he’s impressed me greatly with his personality and the intensity that he brings each day.

    “Josh has been training with the first team since the start of pre-season and I am excited to see his development this season.

    Jesse Lingard has Premier League transfer interest WITHDRAWN after training with Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq

    WEST HAM are no longer interested in signing Jesse Lingard, according to reports.The midfielder had been training with the Hammers since August but will not be returning to the club permanently.

    According to The Athletic, West Ham have withdrawn their interest in signing the free agent.
    Lingard joined up with David Moyes’ side as he searched for a new club this summer.
    He has been a free agent since his one-year deal with Nottingham Forest expired at the end of June.
    The 30-year-old even featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Ipswich earlier this month.

    Lingard previously spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at the London Stadium, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 16 matches.
    Wolves had also reportedly been interested in a move for Lingard but a deal never materialised for the former Manchester United star.
    West Ham’s withdrawal of their interest comes with Lingard now in Saudi Arabia to train with Al-Ettifaq.
    He has joined up with Steven Gerrard’s side and is expected to spend a month training with the Saudi Pro League outfit.

    United are now eyeing a potential January deal, but they face competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle.
    According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Magpies want to sign Rabiot as part of their efforts to strengthen their presence in Europe.
    However, Massimiliano Allegri wants to tie him down to a new contract.

    Rabiot, 28, joined Juventus in a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 and has since made 181 appearances.
    The midfielder scored 11 goals and provided six assists last season after experiencing a resurgence under Allegri.
    And he believes he should’ve received a Ballon d’Or nomination for his efforts.
    He told L’Equipe: “I can’t deny that it hurts because I had an important season.

    Gray has made eight appearances for Leeds this season in the Championship.

    Manager Daniel Farke has hailed Gray’s progress this season and previously picked him out for praise for his performance against Millwall.

    Mowbray praised the stopper when he started for the first team in a pre-season game and his reputation is growing fast.
    Sunderland tied down Young to a two-year deal recently but he is already with a leading agency and the club may cash in on him.

    The Seagulls tried to sign Barco, 19, from Boca Juniors this summer and went close to triggering his release clause of around £10million.
