He instantly became No1 at the club and held that spot until September this year.
Spaniard Raya arrived on an initial loan from Brentford during the summer transfer window and the 28-year-old was preferred to the England international for the win at Everton in September.
The star has continued to be picked since by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, with Ramsdale’s only outings since coming in the Carabao Cup.
Back in the summer, Ramsdale joined Gunners icon Wright, 60, for an interview on the Behind The Game podcast.

During it he spoke about his concentration levels and his interactions with fans during the matches.
He said: “If you ask me to concentrate on a game of football for 90 minutes I’m finished. I can’t do it.
”So that’s why I get involved with the fans and I’ll sing along with the songs.”
Ramsdale continued: “If someone’s giving me abuse I’ll turn around and I’ll give them a bit back.”

Wright looked stunned at Ramsdale’s revelation, before the goalie continued: “I’ve had my two/three minutes of sort of madness in my head, straight back to the football.
“I’ve got 10/15 minutes of total concentration again – next thing you know half time is around.”

The clip of the keeper’s admission has now re-emerged on social media, and it was shared by one fan along with several crying with laughter emojis and the caption: “Ramsdales days were numbered after he dropped this bombshell.
“He should’ve kept it to himself.”
A fellow Gooner shared a screenshot of Wright’s face during the interview and wrote: “This reaction from Ian says it all.”
Another agreed, writing: “Ian Wright’s reaction and facial expression says it all.”
Posting the same shot of Wright, another wrote: “He wish he could stop him, but the words just kept coming out.”
However, not everybody was upset by Ramsdale’s remarks, with a host of fans backing him.
One replied: “People are taking this out of context. Obviously this is in a game when we are leading comfortably.”

Another said: “TBF, that’s like >90% of all people no matter their job.”
As another commented: “Ramsdale is still our best GK by some distance.” More

Diomande is on his radar, although his £70million release clause will give Newcastle’s Saudi owners food for thought when the transfer window opens in January.
Howe has sent scouts to watch the 19-year-old Ivory Coast ace, who’s regarded as the best African prospect playing in Europe.
He has started in every game for Sporting and has been scouted at least three times by Newcastle this season.
Diomande, who is comfortable playing in a back three or four, was watched in Sunday’s Lisbon 2-1 derby defeat by Benfica.

His current deal expires in 2027 but SunSport understands he would be interested in a switch to the Premier League.
Arsenal have also been linked with Diomande after reportedly seeing a £30m bid rejected over the summer.
The teen only made his debut for Sporting in February following a £6.5m switch from Danish side Midtjylland.
He played 17 times in all competitions, scoring once.

But Diomande has already doubled his total this season with two goals in 16 outings.
Sporting currently sit joint-top of the Portuguese league alongside Benfica, with both teams winning nine of their opening 11 matches.
Diomande’s defensive pal Goncalo Inacio saw red in the heated derby on Sunday.
He too has been linked with a Premier League move as Manchester United reportedly line up a January bid. More

Tottenham ‘line up Champions League star with better record than Haaland to replace Harry Kane in bargain £39m transfer’

But back-to-back defeats at the hands of Chelsea and Wolves have slightly dampened the mood around the club.
And while they have seemingly not missed record scorer Harry Kane as much as many expected, they could still seek a replacement in January.
Richarlison has struggled to hit the back of the net since Kane’s exit and is now sidelined following surgery.
Son Heung-min has been playing through the middle, but his more natural position remains the left flank.

According to Caught Offside, Gimenez, 22, is Spurs’ preferred striker ahead of Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic.
The Feyenoord marksman has netted 15 times in 15 matches for the Dutch giants so far this season – a better goal to game ratio than Manchester City’s Erling Haaland – who has 17 in 18 games in all competitions.
It is understood Gimenez would set Tottenham back around £39million.
But they face competition from Chelsea who could splash the cash once more in January.

It’s also understood that Ten Hag would be willing to listen to offers for Antony, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho as he looks to refresh his attacking options.
A United source explained Ten Hag’s eyes remain “very firmly” fixed on securing a Champions League place – something he is convinced his squad can achieve, especially after the weekend win over Luton.
Our source said: “January will be a big month for United. The deal involving Sir Jim should be done by then, and this will free up funds for Ten Hag to reset his squad.
“He’s targeting a forward who can play on either flank and a right full-back.

“There’s a massive question mark over Sancho and Martial – neither are thought to be a part of the manager’s long-term plans. Both could move on.
“Despite the difficulties of the first few weeks of the season, Ten Hag remains very confident and will be using the international break to try and work with the wider squad.
“He’s convinced they can finish in the top four. Even though their form has been erratic, they are still within touching distance of those places. Now they have to kick on.
“Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team won’t be coming in and demanding changes to the management. Ten Hag will get time to prove he’s the person to take the club back to past glories.”

Meanwhile SunSport can reveal that Scott McTominay has now “secured his future at the club” having almost left in the summer.
Our source added: “Ten Hag needs Scott in his team. There’s no chance he’d let him go now.
“Scott is a key part of the side now as is Harry Maguire. In fact they are two of the first names on the team sheet. Things change fast in football.” More

And it appears they are determined to lure more big names from the Premier League to the Middle East.
The likes of Al-Ittihad tried to sign Mo Salah in the summer, with Son Heung-min also revealing he rejected an offer from the Saudi Pro League.

He has been linked with a loan move to former side Borussia Dortmund, but Al-Ettifaq could return with a bid following their stuttering start to the season.
While Richarlison is understood to have attracted interest from Al-Ittihad and Spurs could decide to sell as he has failed to live up to his £60million price tag since joining.
United could also decide to cash in on Bruno Fernandes with reports claiming Saudi clubs are prepared to spend £87m on the midfielder.

Erik ten Hag may want to keep ahold of the Portuguese however after making him captain in the summer.

However, Werner managed just ten goals in 56 Premier League games before returning two summers ago.
He has started just three league games this season for Leipzig and was an unused sub in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Freiburg.
Werner is coach Marco Rose’s fourth choice behind fellow strikers Lois Openda, Benjamin Sesko and Yussuf Poulsen.
And Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schroder said they are ready to listen to January offers for the 27-year-old, according to German outlet Spox.

Schroder declared: “We look carefully at our squad, and we want players who have that something a bit different in their heads.
“Those are the types of players who we will pick.
“Timo is going through a difficult spell, and we are supporting him.  Life isn’t always sunshine.
“If he has the notion that he would like to do something else, then we will deal with it.

“He is a part of our team, and he has to face up to competition for places.”
Werner has won 57 caps, scoring 24 goals, but has lost his place in Germany’s national side due to an ankle injury.
Schroder claimed Werner will overcome his current troubles.
However, the Stuttgart-born frontman could yet seek to leave during the January window – opening the door to a cut-price Premier League return.
Newcastle were very keen on signing Werner on loan last summer, but his Chelsea salary of £270,000 a week were a stumbling block.
Juventus were also interested in taking the German star to Italy, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
However he chose to take a pay cut to around £165,000 a week to seal a move back to RB Leipzig in August 2022. More
