Chelsea’s five-man transfer wishlist includes Osimhen and Toney but club will be forced to rip up wage structure

CHELSEA have a five-man striker wishlist that includes Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen, according to reports. But it is believed the club would have to rip up their wage structure to land a big-name forward.

Victor Osimhen could also prove an expensive outlayCredit: Reuters
Nicolas Jackson was signed in the summer but has struggled with just six goals in 15 league games.
Chelsea’s poor form from last season has continued under Mauricio Pochettino, who is keen to add more firepower up-front.
The Blues are 12th in the Premier League and already 14 points off the top four, and failing to qualify for the Champions League means they may have to increase their salary offer to land the targets they want.
Chelsea have a long-term interest in Napoli striker Osimhen while Toney is another player they are monitoring.

But a club source revealed to The Telegraph that both players would only be arriving for big money.
They said: “Chelsea are not going to qualify for Europe next season the way they’ve been going, so they would have to offer either Osimhen or Toney really big money. That’s not something they’ve been doing this year.”
The Blues have installed a policy of signing young players on relatively low wages – but on extremely long contracts.
However that is not something that would appeal to Toney, 27, and Osimhen, 24, who have already established themselves as top talents.

In addition, there would be a huge transfer fee involved.
Brentford are keen to hold onto Toney who has also attracted interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United.
So Chelsea might have to bid around £100million to sign the Bees star, with Napoli likely to demand similar for Osimhen.
If the Blues are priced out of a move they could focus their attention on Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokores, who has scored 15 goals in 18 games since his summer move from Coventry.
The Guardian report Chelsea have been scouting the Swede so could launch a move for him when the transfer window re-opens.
While Todd Boehly could also fund a move for Copenhagen striker Roony Bardghji or Club Brugge teenager Antonio Nusa, according to the Evening Standard.

How ‘Cristiano Ronaldo money’ blocked Man Utd from signing Harry Kane before Bayern transfer

MANCHESTER UNITED failed to sign Harry Kane last summer because he would have cost them “Cristiano Ronaldo money”.United had been keeping tabs on Kane for almost 10 years as he set the world alight at Tottenham and became record goalscorer for the club as well as England.

According to The Mail, the Red Devils tried to finally get their star man in the summer when the striker had only one year left on his Spurs deal and was adamant he wouldn’t extend this time around.
The North Londoners’ chairman Daniel Levy was under immense pressure by owner Joe Lewis to sell the 30-year-old in order to avoid losing the club’s greatest asset for free the year after.
However, Levy, who is well known for being an immensely tough negotiator, was not at all keen on letting the England captain going to a Premier League rival, even though the player wanted United.
Therefore, United would definitely have had to splash a staggering amount to seal a deal with the Tottenham bigwig.

However, the Manchester giants would also have to spend a staggering amount on the forward’s wages.
Kane would have cost Erik ten Hag’s side a total amount similar to Ronaldo during the Al-Nassr superstar’s second stint at Old Trafford.
It’s understood that the Tottenham legend’s salary at Bayern Munich is in the neighbourhood of £500,000 per week, including signing-on fee and bonuses.
Therefore, United would have found themselves back at the same situation they were in when Ronaldo returned in 2021.

The Red Devils would be dealing with an expensive contract of a player in his thirties that wouldn’t have much resale value at the end of his deal.
That led to United backing off and Kane ultimately moving to Bayern after a £104million deal with Tottenham.
And the centre-forward has already amassed a staggering total of 22 goals and seven assists in 19 appearances with the German champions. More

Pope, 31, is set to be sidelined for up to five months after dislocating his shoulder in the Magpie’s 1-0 victory against Manchester United.
And last week Eddie Howe made it clear he intends to stick by second-choice shot-stopper Martin Dubravka despite their 3-0 loss against Everton.
But after their 4-1 defeat against Spurs on Sunday and now conceding seven goals in his last two games, Newcastle might be tempted to bolster their goalkeeper ranks in January.
Forgotten star Lloris is lined up as one of the contenders to fill in Howe’s No1 spot, according to the Mirror.

Newcastle tried and failed with a deadline-day loan deal for Lloris in September but the move was turned down by the Frenchman.
The report claims the World Cup 2018 winner felt it was too late to leave Spurs even though it was clear he would not be a part of Postecoglou’s squad this term.
Lloris’ current deal runs out in the summer of 2024 and has still not featured in any of the Aussie’s matchday line-ups.
To have ” the chance to save some funds” the Lilywhites are keen to move Lloris on in the new year.

Newcastle are likely going to consider a loan until the end of the season hoping for Pope to have a speedy recovery.
Spurs’ former captain also joins David de Gea who has also been on the Magpie’s radar.
The free agent left Man Utd in the summer after spending 12 years at the club.
Also, Paris Saint-Germain’s Keylor Navas, who spent the second half of last term on loan at Nottingham Forest, could enter Newcastle’s transfer list. More

Jeremy Doku was signed and has hit the ground running with four goals and six assists, but City appear keen to add a right winger to their ranks.

Inter Milan are also interested in the Canada international, who has also played at right-back and right wing-back in his career.
That versatility should appeal to Guardiola and the fluid system he has installed in his team.
City could have a busy January window with Kalvin Phillips heavily rumoured to be leaving the club.
Newcastle have been linked to the midfielder while Manchester United insiders say Erik ten Hag is a “big fan” and that Phillips is the “perfect fit” for the new direction he wants to head in.

Phillips has been tipped to join Juventus on loan as Guardiola admitted to “feeling sorry” for the England star.
He said: “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I feel so sorry for my decision for him. I’ve said that many times.
“He doesn’t deserve what has happened to him and I’m so sorry.
“The only thing I can say about him is I am asking for good personalities and characters and he is a perfect example. And after that I have to give him something and I didn’t do that.
“It’s just because I visualise some things and visualise the team and things – and I struggle to see him.
“I’m not very pleased [with myself] and I am so sorry for him. I will not say that [to him] because it is a business and I have to be a professional.
“But if one guy behaves [poorly], I don’t care. But the way he behaves with the team-mates and everyone, I care. So that’s why hopefully it can turn around.
“And I’ve said many times, if it comes to January and he stays, I’m more than pleased because he trains really good and he’s a lovely guy and character.” More

That was the West Londoners’ third loss in their last four league matches, which saw them drop to 12th place in the table.
Pochettino admitted this was yet another “really disappointing” result for Chelsea fans.
And the Argentinean tactician hinted at even more additions in the upcoming January transfer window.
Pochettino said after the whistle: “I’m really disappointed. This was a game to play and to win. It’s a problem we need to check.

“We need to talk and to try and improve in the next transfer market.”
Some Chelsea fans didn’t take kindly to Pochettino’s statement as new owner Todd Boehly has splashed over £1billion since taking over in the summer of 2022.
In fact, Boehly broke the Premier League transfer record twice with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo arriving for a staggering £107million in February and £115m in August respectively.
Some supporters have had enough of the constant signings and instead want the former Tottenham boss to work on building team cohesion.

One fan tweeted: “Just insane. How do you build any team cohesion if new faces arrive every six months?”
Another commented: “It’s not about new signings. We need to make the team a unit and not just add to it.”
A third wrote: “You need more players?”
This fan said: “Lol extra 1billion to spend.”
And that one stated: “As if that’s the solution.” More

The Saints and Middlesbrough are also keen on a loan deal for centre-half Charlie Cresswell, 21, who is out of favour at Championship rivals Leeds.
O’Brien-Whitmarsh has scored four goals from midfield in 27 senior appearances for Cork despite only turning 18 in May.
He has developed into a key player for the Rebel Army since making his first-team debut back in March.
The teenager also has international experience, having represented Ireland at under-15 and under-18 level earlier in his career.

Meanwhile, Cresswell could be loaned out once again by Leeds in January.
The defender spent last season with Millwall as his parent club were relegated from the Premier League.
However, he has failed to establish himself in Daniel Farke’s side so far this term.
Cresswell has not played a league match for over two months and has only made two matchday squads in that time.

Marcus Rashford has failed to replicate last season’s stunning numbers, £72million signing Rasmus Hojlund is goalless in the Prem, Antony is poor and Jadon Sancho is axed from the first team.
That is why the Red Devils have turned their attention to Stuttgart star Serhou Guirassy.
Guirassy has taken the Bundesliga by storm with a staggering total of 16 goals in 11 league appearances.
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Manchester giants have already put the wheels in motion as they weigh up a move for the centre-forward.
    Read More on Man Utd
The 27-year-old is one of Ten Hag’s top January targets as he also poses as a bargain move that may cost less than €20m (£17m).
However, negotiations are still at an “early stage” between United, Stuttgart and the Guinea international’s camp.
Nevertheless, Guirassy is open for “concrete talks” with Ten Hag’s side next month.
But the forward prefers to stay at the MHPArena until the end of the season.

Guirassy has a contract until 2026, therefore Stuttgart are not in a hurry to sell him.
Plus, the Guinean star’s goals have skyrocketed Sebastian Hoeness’ side to third place in the Bundesliga table.
Therefore, the German outfit won’t be keen to offload their best player as they aim to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Plus, Guirassy should be called up by Guinea manager Kaba Diawara for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations, which means United would be deprived of his services for up to a month if they signed him. More
