Tottenham ‘enter transfer race for Raphinha’ with Barcelona set to offload Chelsea and Arsenal target after 18 months

TOTTENHAM have entered the transfer tussle for Raphinha, according to reports. The Brazilian forward only joined Barcelona in the summer of 2022.

Chelsea and Arsenal both wanted to sign the attacker from Leeds before he followed his heart’s desire and headed to the Nou Camp.
He managed ten goals in his debut season to help Barcelona win LaLiga.
But now Mundo Deportivo state the Catalan giants are open to selling Raphinha for the right price.
Barca’s financial woes are well known and therefore the chance to recoup a significant portion of the £49million they shelled out for Raphinha last year is tempting.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
And selling the 26-year-old would also help pave the way for Vitor Roque when the teenager arrives in Spain from Athletico Paranaense in 2024.
Raphinha has lost his place in the starting XI under Xavi this term with the likes of Joao Felix, Fermin Lopez and Ferran Torres preferred to support Robert Lewandowski – not helped by an early red card and an injury this term.
It means he remains stuck on three LaLiga starts with two goals from his 11 appearances in total.
Tottenham, though, could have competition from their Premier League rivals for the ex-Elland Road hero, who managed 17 goals for the Yorkshire club across two seasons.

That is because both Chelsea and Newcastle are rumoured interested parties ahead of the transfer window reopening in the New Year.
The news, though, did not go down well with Blues fans who are not convinced Raphinha is an improvement on their current options at Stamford Bridge.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is keen to bolster his attacking options.
The Australian lost Harry Kane in the summer while Brennan Johnson is still settling and trying to find his top form.
James Maddison, Richarlison, Manor Solomon, Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic have all been sidelined by injury.
There were suggestions Ivan Toney was a possible target but SunSport understands he is deciding between transfers to Arsenal or Chelsea or signing a new contract at Brentford. More

Luka Modric ‘will QUIT Real Madrid at end of season’ after 12 years as ‘next career step is revealed’

Modric’s agent previously hinted that the 38-year-old has already had offers from several other teams.
And there is speculation he could be the next big star to sign for a Saudi Arabian club.
Modric is supposedly open to moving to the Middle East if the offer is “suitable”.
Saudi sides are again expected to splash the cash this January.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
But any deal for Modric will have to wait until the summer as Real Madrid want to keep him as cover in midfield.
A transfer to Saudi Arabia will see him follow down the same path as other Los Blancos heroes and Ballon d’Or winners Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
Modric has played 503 games for Real Madrid, winning three LaLiga titles and five Champions Leagues.
But he has started just six games this season after being pushed out the side by Jude Bellingham.

And Modric does not want his career to slow down after helping Croatia move one step closer to Euro 2024 qualification with a 2-0 win over Latvia last night.

They currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and are at risk of crashing out of the Champions League in the group stages.
Erik ten Hag is now eager to strengthen his squad in January, with several stars already on his transfer wishlist.
And according to Catalan outlet El Nacional, Griezmann is considered a top target.
United officials have travelled to Spain to hold discussions with the Frenchman’s entourage over a potential transfer.

In an attempt to lure him to the Premier League, they have allegedly offered to triple Griezmann’s Atletico Madrid salary, which will see him earn around £350,000 per week.
The report also adds that the striker has a £21.9million (€25m) release clause, making him an affordable target.
Griezmann first joined Atletico Madrid in 2014 after completing a £24m transfer from Real Sociedad.
He left to sign for Barcelona after they activated his £105m buy-out clause in 2019, but experienced a dip in form.

Man Utd fans hail ‘agent’ Bruno Fernandes as he publicly plants transfer seed into Portugal team-mate’s head

And during the camp, he openly discussed the idea of linking up with Portuguese sensation Joao Neves for club as well as country.
Fernandes told Sport TV: “I would love to have him at United.
    “But it’s Joao choice…
    “He has top quality.

“He’s a great player but it depends on the coach’s ideas.
“He will have a great future, in United or somewhere else.”
And the comments to the media got plenty of United supporters very excited indeed as they heaped praise on their skipper for tapping up teenager Neves.
One said: “Agent Bruno, you have one thing to do.”

Another wrote: “Agent Bruno doing his thing, expect to see the player at MUFC in the summer.”
A third added: “That’s why I love him so much.”
A fourth said: “Come to Manchester United.”
And a final user commented: “Something is cooking here.”
Neves only turned 19 in September but is already one of the brightest talents for boyhood club Benfica and is being eyed by Erik ten Hag.
After coming through the academy, the midfielder broke into the first team following Enzo Fernandez’s £106million exit to Chelsea in January.
He forced his way into the starting XI by the latter stages of the 2022-23 season as Benfica won the league title and scored his first goal in the Lisbon derby against Sporting.
Last week, the 5ft 9ins technically-gifted talent – who signed a new contract in the summer until 2028 – repeated the trick against Benfica’s arch-rivals with a 94th-minute winner.
Neves represented Portugal through the youth levels and made his senior debut against Bosnia and Herzegovina last month.

West Ham to make new transfer bid for one-cap England star after having £40m offer knocked back as Moyes hunts strikers

WEST HAM will try again for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke in January.Hammers boss David Moyes wants a new frontman after the club sold flop Gianluca Scamacca in the summer and failed to sign a replacement.

The Irons made a £40million approach for Solanke in August but were knocked back.
And it would take a much bigger bid for the Cherries to even consider letting their star forward leave.
Solanke, 26, has scored six goals in 12 Premier League games this term, including against West Ham on the opening day of the campaign.
The player — capped once by  England — still has more than three  years to run on his current deal at the Vitality Stadium.

Hammers chiefs would love to bring him to East London but if they cannot persuade Bournemouth to sell, they will look at other targets.
Paris Saint-Germain misfit Hugo Ekitike, 21, and 27-year-old former Chelsea striker Timo Werner are among the names on Moyes’ wish list.
Ekitike joined PSG in a permanent transfer from Reims this summer following an initial season-long loan, but he has been limited to just one appearance.
Meanwhile, Werner enjoyed a successful return to the Bundesliga after re-joining RB Leipzig last summer.

David de Gea snubs £500k-a-week Cristiano Ronaldo reunion as ex-Man Utd ace considers transfer to Messi’s Inter Miami

Ronaldo’s Saudi side Al-Nassr were keen to make him the latest big-name addition and retain hope of talking him round.
But sources close to De Gea insist wife Edurne is not keen on joining the Middle East exodus.
United could yet offer De Gea a short-term deal, while Valencia’s interest in the Spaniard may be scuppered by their financial issues.
There is also interest from Inter Miami and the prospect of playing in MLS does hold some appeal.

De Gea would then link up with Ronaldo’s old rival Lionel Messi, rather than the Portuguese.
Inter Miami also possess his former Spain team-mates – Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.
Man Utd could be without No1 goalkeeper Andre Onana in the New Year, with Cameroon having qualified.
The tournament is set to take place between January 13 and February 11.

United bought Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce for £4.3m in the summer and also still have Tom Heaton on the books.
But De Gea could yet still be asked to return on a short-term basis.
The former Red Devil has continued to be seen around Manchester.
And he recently hung out with United star Sergio Reguilon.
He then reunited with ex-team-mate Bruno Fernandes.

Bees chiefs were in South America last week and want to do a deal for the  prospect, who has four goals in seven games for Argentina’s young guns.
It comes as Ivan Toney’s Brentford future remains up in the air – with SunSport revealing the striker is torn over a January move.
The Brentford star will return to action after Christmas and is widely tipped to leave the West London club.
Arsenal are thought to be at the front of the queue for his services with Chelsea also interested.

But a source close to the player said Toney – banned for gambling offences – feels he has a “debt to repay” to Brenford and to the club’s manager Thomas Frank.
It means any move could be held off until the summer.
The source said: “A lot of people assume Ivan will be on his way after Christmas, but no deal has been done – and nothing has been decided.
“Ivan is torn over his future. Brentford have stood by him and the club have been brilliant.

“Part of him wants to help them by hitting the ground running straight away in January and scoring the goals which will ensure they stay in the Premier League.
“There are a lot of clubs interested in Ivan but his focus, for now, is getting back on the pitch at Brentford and doing the business for his manager Thomas Frank, to whom he feels he has a big debt to repay. The same goes for the fans.
“He’s determined to get back in the England squad and Ivan fully believes in himself to make the first squad once he’s back playing football.”

Everton were foolish but they did NOT cheat – their ten-point deduction is a terrible decision for football

LET’S get one thing clear right from the start. As much as some would claim otherwise, Everton have not been found guilty of cheating. That jaw-dropping ten-point deduction is not a result of trying to defraud rivals.
Everton were deducted ten pointsCredit: PA
Not from welching on transfer deals. Not from defaulting on payments.
It is down to overspending. It is because they have been foolish with their money.
It is because they have run up bigger debts than their income allows.
And it is because football is now run by independent panels and accountants.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
A sport where red tape, not refs, now calls the shots. One of back-door politics.
Of course Friday’s ruling was a terrible day for Everton. But it goes far deeper than that.
It was a terrible day for the game as a whole.
One when the entire landscape changed irrevocably. A reason why it has become far easier to hate football than love it.

Because anyone who thinks this is a one-off, the sign that it will bring others to their senses and drag everyone into line, is living in another world.
This is only the start, believe me.
The swinging open of the door to a world where Premier League clubs are already running to teacher and snitching on rivals, like Chelsea and Manchester City for example.
And a sport where the winners will ultimately be those who can afford the best lawyers and fight the most stringent and strongest defence.
Something this column warned about in Everton’s case, incidentally, when Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Grant Ingles and Graeme Sharp were drummed out in June.
CEO Barrett-Baxendale and chief finance and strategy officer Ingles were the two fighting the case. The only two in Goodison with the inside knowledge and expertise.
When they left, there was no one with details of all the facts and figures — and know-how — to pick up the baton.
Had they stayed, the outcome could well have been the same.
    ‘They haven’t cheated’
But at least they’d have been better placed to fight their corner — then and now, with the appeal.
There is no doubt Everton are a club that have been run abysmally. Farhad Moshiri can rightfully be accused of that. No one could possibly argue otherwise.
Signings such as Andre Gomes, Alex Iwobi, Moise Kean . . . the list of big-money flops is endless. But they haven’t cheated.
What they have done is over-spent, as simple as that.
Well, either they’ve got no mirrors in the Premier League or those rivals who initially complained studiously avoid them.
But what this ruling means is that effectively we now no longer know what we are watching or what the final table will be.
No one going to a game will be able to say with certainty what that day’s result actually means.
A 2-1 win? Where are we in the table now, then? Only there won’t be a definite answer.
‘This is a whole new ball game’
It could be sixth but, then again, it might be third. Or perhaps as low as 15th.
Football has steadily been edging away from the sport we all fell in love with as kids.
One where it was all about the goals, the tackles, the saves, the matches. Those days are long gone.
Yes, there have been points deductions in the Premier League before, but not in these circumstances.
Portsmouth were docked nine in 2010 for going into administration.
In 1997 Middlesbrough lost three for postponing a game against Premier League orders amid an injury crisis.
But this is a whole new ball game. One decided by independent panels imposing rules that no one fully understands.
Until the appeal is heard, there remains hope for Everton. Yet it doesn’t alter the fact that accountants have taken over.
How long before it’s not about the top goalscorer but the top lawyer?
Something all those rivals currently sniggering behind their hands would do well to bear in mind. More
