But boss Guardiola’s idea is to farm out Barco to his former coaching sidekick Maresca once he is signed because they think the teenager needs the experience.
It could be a massive boost for promotion-chasing Foxes if City can clinch the deal during January’s window.
But even if Barco’s move is delayed until next season, Guardiola is still keen to send him to the Leicester ‘finishing school’ before using him at the Etihad.
Barco has a fixed fee of around £10million but extra costs will make the deal worth up to £13m.

Guardiola is keen to land the Argentinian, who has shone at club level and was a stand-out in the recent Copa Libertadores final, when Boca lost 2-1 to Brazilians Fluminense in extra-time.
Brighton hoped to win the chase after making the first serious bid for Barco but even they now fear they only have a 25 per cent chance.
The Seagulls first tried to sign the defender this summer and went close to triggering his release clause.

Newcastle, on the other hand, benefited from a recent vote in which Premier League clubs agreed to allow loan signings between teams with the same owner.

Benrahma’s new agent is well-connected among the leading Saudi outfits and has recently been to London for a face-to-face meeting with Hammers boss David Moyes.
If the bid comes in, West Ham may accept as Benrahma, 28, is not guaranteed a place in the team  these days and his appearances and game time have been reduced.
Moyes will not want to push Benrahma out, especially with Europe still on the fixture list — but the right cash may sway the decision.
The winger joined the Irons initially on a loan deal in 2020 from Brentford.

However, in the January transfer window the club exercised the right to buy Benrahma for £25million plus £5million in add-ons.
Since then, he has played 146 time for the club scoring 24 goals.

Aaron Ramsdale is one player that could seek out a transferCredit: Reuters
Many players will be on the lookout for a move in the upcoming transfer window in an attempt to boost their hopes of a call-up to their national teams.
This could be a concern for their clubs who may not want to lose certain players and the depth that they provide.
SunSports have identified seven players who need to try and get a transfer should they want to play at the Euros.
    Aaron Ramsdale
The Arsenal goalkeeper has struggled for game time this season thanks to the arrival of David Raya.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Aaron Ramsdale was one of the club’s best performers last season and earned himself a spot in the England set-up.
It was expected that he would push Jordan Pickford for the starting role at the Three Lions, however, his place is now at risk in the team.
Gareth Southgate may look at stoppers who have played more regularly than Ramsdale which could see the places handed to the likes of Nick Pope, Sam Johnstone or Jason Steele.
Ramsdale has been linked with moves to Chelsea and Newcastle.

Once hyped as the next Thierry Henry, Martial’s career has stuttered in recent times at Man United due to various reasons.
The forward should look to make a move in the January window if he hopes to be in the French team alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe in Germany.
    Jorginho

Jorginho could be at risk of losing his spot in the Italy national team as they look to try and retain their title.
The midfielder has become a back-up option at Arsenal following the arrival of Declan Rice in the summer.
Jorginho has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium with the likes of Barcelona interested.
The Italian’s contract is up at the end of the season so Arsenal could look to cash in while they have a chance.
    Noni Madueke

Noni Madueke arrived at Chelsea last January from PSV and a lot was expected from the exciting youngster.
However, under Mauricio Pochettino, the winger has barely featured in the Premier League having only made five appearances.
The Englishman has featured for the England U16, U17s, U18s and U21s so far in his career.
A move to a different club, on loan or permanent, that would guarantee him game time could see him become a late contender for a spot in the England squad.

Manchester United and Chelsea are keeping tabs on Palmeiras wonderkid Messinho
The 16-year-old has been linked with Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester City.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea and United have joined the transfer war for the winger’s signature.
However, the Blues and the Red Devils will have to cough up some heavy cash once more as Messinho – who also goes simply as Estevao – carries a €60million (£52m) release clause.
The forward signed his first professional contract with Palmeiras in April with a hefty asking price as his agent Andre Curry has claimed his client could win the Ballon d’Or one day.

Liverpool SHOULDN’T offer Mo Salah a new contract – they need to let him go to Saudi Arabia, claims club legend

LIVERPOOL have been urged not to offer Mo Salah a new contract. That’s as clubs in Saudi Arabia line up mega-money bids for the superstar forward.
Mo Salah should NOT be handed a new Liverpool deal, says a club legendCredit: Rex
Salah, 31, is a certified Liverpool legend after winning every club trophy available at Anfield.
The hitman has scored 198 goals in 321 games under Jurgen Klopp.
And he’s still going strong in his golden years, having netted 12 times already this season.
However, Salah’s future remains in doubt following a huge offer from Al-Ittihad in September.

The Saudi giants launched a world-record £215million to poach Liverpool’s star player on deadline day.
The Reds held firm, having handed Salah a new £400,000-a-week contract in 2022.
But with the Egyptian’s deal up in 2025, boss Klopp has a big decision to make.
He could insist on another new deal for Salah, who is still doing the business on the right side of his attack.

Mark Lawrenson reckons Liverpool should sell Salah to Saudi ArabiaCredit: PA
However, Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson reckons this would be a mistake.
He feels Salah’s career is only going downwards ahead of his 32nd birthday in June.
And Lawrenson has urged Liverpool to cash in while they can so they can fund a new squad rebuild.
He told Paddy Power: “I don’t think Liverpool should offer Salah a new contract, they should let him go and take the money.
“You can understand him going to Saudi Arabia because of his nationality. I imagine that when he signed his last contract, given everything happening with the Saudi league, he would have known.
“I’m sure the club would be happy to say ‘thanks for your service to the club, we’ll get £100m and you get plenty of money and good luck’.
“I think the plus side of this is that Liverpool will be looking around in the market already for a replacement.
“They’ll have a shortlist of strikers noted down but they do have four already, which is good for when Salah leaves, they have back up.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if the manager and the player have already had a conversation about it. Klopp would be asking for him to give everything until the end of the season and then he can go.
“Salah will already be on silly money so it makes no sense for him to try and get more money from Liverpool, because when you get past the age of 30, you don’t play as many games and then the club wouldn’t be getting bang for their buck.” More
