Pope, 31, is set to be sidelined for up to five months after dislocating his shoulder in the Magpie’s 1-0 victory against Manchester United.
And last week Eddie Howe made it clear he intends to stick by second-choice shot-stopper Martin Dubravka despite their 3-0 loss against Everton.
But after their 4-1 defeat against Spurs on Sunday and now conceding seven goals in his last two games, Newcastle might be tempted to bolster their goalkeeper ranks in January.
Forgotten star Lloris is lined up as one of the contenders to fill in Howe’s No1 spot, according to the Mirror.

Newcastle tried and failed with a deadline-day loan deal for Lloris in September but the move was turned down by the Frenchman.
The report claims the World Cup 2018 winner felt it was too late to leave Spurs even though it was clear he would not be a part of Postecoglou’s squad this term.
Lloris’ current deal runs out in the summer of 2024 and has still not featured in any of the Aussie’s matchday line-ups.
To have ” the chance to save some funds” the Lilywhites are keen to move Lloris on in the new year.

Newcastle are likely going to consider a loan until the end of the season hoping for Pope to have a speedy recovery.
Spurs’ former captain also joins David de Gea who has also been on the Magpie’s radar.
The free agent left Man Utd in the summer after spending 12 years at the club.
Also, Paris Saint-Germain’s Keylor Navas, who spent the second half of last term on loan at Nottingham Forest, could enter Newcastle’s transfer list. More

Jeremy Doku was signed and has hit the ground running with four goals and six assists, but City appear keen to add a right winger to their ranks.

Buchanan has 18 months left on his contract and is reportedly unlikely to sign a new deal.

Inter Milan are also interested in the Canada international, who has also played at right-back and right wing-back in his career.
That versatility should appeal to Guardiola and the fluid system he has installed in his team.
City could have a busy January window with Kalvin Phillips heavily rumoured to be leaving the club.
Newcastle have been linked to the midfielder while Manchester United insiders say Erik ten Hag is a “big fan” and that Phillips is the “perfect fit” for the new direction he wants to head in.

Phillips has been tipped to join Juventus on loan as Guardiola admitted to “feeling sorry” for the England star.
He said: “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I feel so sorry for my decision for him. I’ve said that many times.
“He doesn’t deserve what has happened to him and I’m so sorry.
“The only thing I can say about him is I am asking for good personalities and characters and he is a perfect example. And after that I have to give him something and I didn’t do that.
“It’s just because I visualise some things and visualise the team and things – and I struggle to see him.
“I’m not very pleased [with myself] and I am so sorry for him. I will not say that [to him] because it is a business and I have to be a professional.
“But if one guy behaves [poorly], I don’t care. But the way he behaves with the team-mates and everyone, I care. So that’s why hopefully it can turn around.
“And I’ve said many times, if it comes to January and he stays, I’m more than pleased because he trains really good and he’s a lovely guy and character.” More

That was the West Londoners’ third loss in their last four league matches, which saw them drop to 12th place in the table.
Pochettino admitted this was yet another “really disappointing” result for Chelsea fans.
And the Argentinean tactician hinted at even more additions in the upcoming January transfer window.
Pochettino said after the whistle: “I’m really disappointed. This was a game to play and to win. It’s a problem we need to check.

“We need to talk and to try and improve in the next transfer market.”
Some Chelsea fans didn’t take kindly to Pochettino’s statement as new owner Todd Boehly has splashed over £1billion since taking over in the summer of 2022.
In fact, Boehly broke the Premier League transfer record twice with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo arriving for a staggering £107million in February and £115m in August respectively.
Some supporters have had enough of the constant signings and instead want the former Tottenham boss to work on building team cohesion.

One fan tweeted: “Just insane. How do you build any team cohesion if new faces arrive every six months?”
Another commented: “It’s not about new signings. We need to make the team a unit and not just add to it.”
A third wrote: “You need more players?”
This fan said: “Lol extra 1billion to spend.”
And that one stated: “As if that’s the solution.” More

The Saints and Middlesbrough are also keen on a loan deal for centre-half Charlie Cresswell, 21, who is out of favour at Championship rivals Leeds.
O’Brien-Whitmarsh has scored four goals from midfield in 27 senior appearances for Cork despite only turning 18 in May.
He has developed into a key player for the Rebel Army since making his first-team debut back in March.
The teenager also has international experience, having represented Ireland at under-15 and under-18 level earlier in his career.

Meanwhile, Cresswell could be loaned out once again by Leeds in January.
The defender spent last season with Millwall as his parent club were relegated from the Premier League.
However, he has failed to establish himself in Daniel Farke’s side so far this term.
Cresswell has not played a league match for over two months and has only made two matchday squads in that time.

As well as making just four Championship appearances, he has only played two minutes in the league since the third round of matches.
Like O’Brien-Whitmarsh, he has played for his country at youth level, scoring once in 14 caps for England’s under-21s.
One of those caps came as the Young Lions won the Euros in the summer. More

Man Utd ‘make first move to sign Bundesliga striker who’s scored 16 goals in just 11 games and will cost just £17m’

MANCHESTER UNITED have “inquired” about one of Europe’s deadliest strikers ahead of the January transfer window.United manager Erik ten Hag needs to add some firepower up front amid a painful campaign in the Premier League as well as the Champions League.

Marcus Rashford has failed to replicate last season’s stunning numbers, £72million signing Rasmus Hojlund is goalless in the Prem, Antony is poor and Jadon Sancho is axed from the first team.
That is why the Red Devils have turned their attention to Stuttgart star Serhou Guirassy.
Guirassy has taken the Bundesliga by storm with a staggering total of 16 goals in 11 league appearances.
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Manchester giants have already put the wheels in motion as they weigh up a move for the centre-forward.
    Read More on Man Utd
The 27-year-old is one of Ten Hag’s top January targets as he also poses as a bargain move that may cost less than €20m (£17m).
However, negotiations are still at an “early stage” between United, Stuttgart and the Guinea international’s camp.
Nevertheless, Guirassy is open for “concrete talks” with Ten Hag’s side next month.
But the forward prefers to stay at the MHPArena until the end of the season.

Guirassy has a contract until 2026, therefore Stuttgart are not in a hurry to sell him.
Plus, the Guinean star’s goals have skyrocketed Sebastian Hoeness’ side to third place in the Bundesliga table.
Therefore, the German outfit won’t be keen to offload their best player as they aim to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Plus, Guirassy should be called up by Guinea manager Kaba Diawara for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations, which means United would be deprived of his services for up to a month if they signed him. More

Miley, 17, put in stunning performances in the wins over Chelsea and Manchester United.
Against the Blues, he even bagged an assist as he set up Alexander Isak’s opening goal with a slick through ball.
The midfielder has also featured twice in the Champions League as he bossed PSG’s midfield in the 1-1 draw back in November.
However, fans believe that he has now moved to Stamford Bridge after he was named on the club’s team sheet to face Everton.
    READ MORE ON CHELSEA
The match-day programme included Miley’s name at the bottom of the list of Chelsea players.
Jude Soonsup-Bell was also included in the squad, despite joining Tottenham back in January.
Fans who spotted the name took to social media to comment.
One fan said: “Either a programme error or Chelsea have signed Lewis Miley from Newcastle (No 67).”

A second wrote: “Todd Boehly doesn’t stop!”
A third commented: “Lewis Miley 🤯.”
However, it is highly unlikely that Chelsea have actually signed the England youth star.
Newcastle played against Everton at Goodison Park in mid-week and Miley was in the squad.
It is presumed that there has been an error by the Toffees and his name was left on the programme instead of being replaced.
Everton thrashed Newcastle on the night 3-0 but the result was tainted as a 13-man row broke out at full-time. More

He played on the right of a back three but is versatile and a tough competitor.
Le Havre have started the term well and Sangante has been a key man in their tight defence.
Marco Silva’s side may have to pay around £15million for him and are expected to take another look before committing to that level of fee.
Fulham are also understood to be plotting a move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

The Cottagers are desperate to boost their forward line after selling Aleksandar Mitrovic to Saudi side Al-Hilala in the summer.
Broja spent months on the sidelines with a knee injury but returned in September and scored in a 2-0 win over Fulham.
Fulham could sign the striker on loan if Blues are willing to let him leave, having previously loaned the 22-year-old to Southampton.
The West London club are also said to be interested in Stuggart’s goal menace Serhou Guirassy who has netted 16 goals in 11 Bundesliga matches.

Newcastle eye shock transfer for Premier League rival over De Gea and Ramsdale as Nick Pope injury replacement

NEWCASTLE have switched their attention to a major Premier League target amid their search for a new goalkeeper. The Magpies will be without No1 Nick Pope for about four months after he suffered a nasty shoulder injury last week during his team’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United at St James’ Park.

This poses as yet another major injury blow for the Toon’s manager Eddie Howe, who has seen his list of crocked stars grow even longer.
Martin Dubravka came on for the England international and started at Everton on Thursday, meaning the Slovakian shot-stopper could fill in for his team-mate while he is sidelined.
But recent reports suggest Howe will look for extra cover in the January transfer window with the Tyneside giants linked with Arsenal outcast Aaron Ramsdale and United legend David de Gea.
According to the Daily Star, however, Newcastle are now eyeing Crystal Palace keeper Sam Johnstone.
    Read More on Newcastle
Johnstone is seen as a “cost effective short-term cover” as he may cost less than £8million next month.
That is despite the fact the 30-year-old recently put pen to paper on a new contract with Palace until 2027.
The England international has also been a regular for manager Roy Hodgson since September but that is mainly down to Dean Henderson’s thigh injury.
With Henderson eyeing a return before the end of the year, Johnstone might be interested in joining another Premier League club that could also boost his chances of a Euro 2024 call-up.
    Most read in Football
The ex-United ace, though, was also withdrawn on Saturday during the Eagles’ 2-1 loss to Liverpool at Selhurst Park due to a calf problem.
That could keep the former West Brom keeper out of action over the Christmas period.
However, Johnstone’s recent injury set-back, combined with Henderson’s imminent return, could convince Palace to cash in on the former in January.
Free agent De Gea still poses as a “serious option” but Newcastle worry about his lack of match fitness as he hasn’t played since May shortly before leaving United.
Ramsdale has also been linked but Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is not keen to sell him even though he has been replaced by Brentford loanne David Raya between the sticks. More
