When does the Saudi Pro League transfer window close?

DEADLINE DAY is finally here – but not necessarily for the clubs in the Saudi Pro League.Teams in the Middle East have been spending big this summer courtesy of the country’s Public Investment funding.
Al-Hilal are paying Neymar over £100million a year for his servicesCredit: Rex
And it has led to the likes of Al Hilal luring Brazilian superstar Neymar to the club.
While Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Fabinho are now all part of the Al-Ittihad squad.
But fans are now itching to know when the Saudi transfer window closes as the Middle East sides continue to circle for some of Europe’s top talent.
When does the Saudi Pro League transfer window close?
The Saudi League’s website has confirmed that teams have until Thursday, September 7 to get their last deals done.
Read more on Saudi Pro League
However, there has been some confusion over the deadline day as FIFA listed the Saudi Pro League’s cut-off point as Wednesday, September 20.
Either way, the Saudi sides have a longer period to sign players with the window shutting TONIGHT – Friday, September 1, for most of Europe.
And this means that clubs in the Middle East can still bolster their squads while everyone else has to wait until January.
What has been said about the Saudi Pro League?
Al-Ittihad are reportedly preparing a world record £200million bid for Liverpool legend Mo Salah but Jurgen Klopp is adamant that the Egyptian star will stay at the club.
    Most read in Football
Klopp also said: “The influence of Saudi Arabia is massive at the moment.
“Pretty much the worst thing, I think, is that the transfer window in Saudi Arabia is open three weeks longer. If I am right, I heard something like that, then at least in Europe, that’s not helpful.
“UEFA or FIFA must find solutions for that. But in the end, at this moment, I don’t know exactly what will happen. It’s already influential for us, but we will have to learn to deal with it…

Can clubs still sign players after transfer deadline day and when does the window shut?

THE stage is set for another dramatic transfer deadline day. With plenty of moves still in the pipeline, clubs will have to do business early in the day if they want their new stars to play this weekend
Chelsea signed Mykhailo Mudryk for £88millon this January
Chelsea have more than left their mark in the January transfer window having spent around £200million.
And they are in a race to get Enzo Fernandez across the line before it’s too late. Can clubs still sign players after transfer deadline day?
Despite the best efforts of clubs, sometimes deals do run right up to the window closing.
If a transfer looks like it’s going to the wire, Premier League clubs are allowed to submit what is called a deal sheet.
The deal sheet can be submitted to officials in the final two hours of the window, so this January can be sent from 9pm onwards.
It allows an extension on submitting official paperwork of two hours, letting clubs who’ve struck a deal in the final hours of the window get their transfer ratified in time.
Chelsea are edging closer in sealing a deal for Enzo Fernandez
Any top-flight club can submit a deal sheet up until the 11pm deadline – but not afterwards, with most transfers then announced by 1am.
Players who are currently free agents can be signed at ANY time after the transfer window shuts.

All loans must also be completed by the 11pm deadline on Tuesday, January 31 – 11pm
The only exception is under EFL rules a team can sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan provided all the stoppers currently in their squad are unavailable through injury or suspension.
In short, clubs can’t bring in any player after the deadline who is registered to another club when the window shuts. More

Tottenham’s Bryan Gil posts cryptic pic about ‘being happy but not realising’ after Valencia transfer collapses

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR star Bryan Gil has hinted he is unhappy at the club.Gil was set to seal a loan move to Valencia on deadline day before the move collapsed with Spurs unable to find a replacement.

And following the collapse of the move, Gil made a cryptic post on his Instagram page.
He posted an image with the caption: “Sometimes an old photo makes us value the moments where we were happiest and we didn’t realise.”
Gil has not played a single minute under Antonio Conte this season.
It is clear to see he is far down the pecking order in terms of attackers at Tottenham, with the signing of Richarlison pushing him further down the order.

The 21-year-old played just 85 minutes of Premier League football under both Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte before the latter sanctioned a loan move to Valencia for the winger.
Tottenham brought Gil for a fee of £22million plus Erik Lamela from Sevilla, with Gil at the time being one of La Liga’s rising stars.
However, things have not worked out for him across the English channel and his move to England is threatening to turn sour.
Tottenham had been in line to secure a loan deal for Dan James before he sealed a season long-loan with Fulham.

Ten best Premier League deadline day transfers ranked from Aubameyang’s Chelsea move to Arthur Melo’s Liverpool switch

YESTERDAY saw yet another manic Premier League deadline day draw to a close. Numerous clubs were in action scrambling to get some last minute deals in place.
And SunSport will rank the best 10 deals from Thursday’s deadline day madness.
Former Chelsea and Arsenal star Willian signed a one-year deal with Fulham on deadline dayCredit: Rex
    10. Willian
THERE was a bit of a theme yesterday with Fulham in signing players who have previously played for their London rivals, but the arrival of a 34-year-old Willian is a bit of a head scratcher.
Willian, who joins on a one-year deal, will add Premier League experience to the Cottagers ranks and no doubt maintains a wicked delivery on a set piece.
However, the modern game requires lots of running, and Willian is unlikely to be able to provide that, meaning his impact will be felt mostly from the bench.
    9. Dan James
ANOTHER signing from Fulham in this list, Dan James seemed to be one of the hottest properties on the market on deadline day with as many as three clubs vying for his services at one point.
In the end, Fulham signed him on loan for the remainder of the season and will provide the exact opposite of Willian in terms of work-rate.
However, James was benched at Leeds to the start the campaign and his lack of end-product has previously come under the microscope in his spells at Manchester United and Leeds.

    8. Wout Faes
WOUT FAES became Leicester City’s first and only outfield signing of the summer transfer window on deadline day.
The 24-year-old joins in a £15million deal from Reims as the Ligue 1 side’s Player of the Year for last season.
Faes will have big boots to fill thanks to the departure of Wesley Fofana, and a massive job on his hands due to the perilous state Leicester find themselves in – winless from their first five games.

    7. Antony
ANTONY’S transfer to Manchester United was the real blockbuster transfer on deadline day – an £85.5m deal from Ajax.
The deal was practically done the day before, but the winger arrives with a lot of excitement surrounding him with some eye-catching displays of trickery at Ajax.
However, over £85m on a player who has failed to outscore an 18-year-old Mason Mount – who had nine league goals with Vitesse in the 2017/18 season – screams of an over-payment regardless of the his other qualities.

    6. Arthur Melo
FORMERLY a transfer target for Arsenal and an ex-Barcelona player, Arthur Melo has joined Liverpool on loan for the season with an option to buy for £32m from Juventus.
Arthur bolsters an area which has proven to be a source of weakness for Liverpool this season amid a crippling injury crisis.
However, he had not played a single minute for Juventus this season prior to the move and there will undoubtedly be question marks over whether he can handle the physical demands of the Premier League and Jurgen Klopp’s system.

    5. Duje Caleta-Car
A direct replacement for Aston Villa bound Jan Bednarek, Duje Caleta-Car comes in with a big reputation from his time on the continent.
The Croatian was William Saliba’s partner at Marseille for the majority of last season, and their keystone defensive partnership saw them reach the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League and come second on Ligue 1.
The fee for the 25-year-old is reportedly £12m-£15m, but his ability to play out from the back will give an extra dimension to Southampton’s already impressive centre-back unit.

    4. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
THE £10m signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by Chelsea from Barcelona offers an interesting solution to the club’s recent struggles in front of goal.
The Gabon forward thrived under Thomas Tuchel during their time at Borussia Dortmund, and if he can replicate this he will be an instant hit at Stamford Bridge.
However, it should be noted that at 33 his best days may be behind him, and considering the ending of his Arsenal career it is likely there will no be an extension beyond the two-year deal he has signed.

    3. James Garner
A transfer Manchester United fans are bitterly disappointed about.
James Garner was one of the heroes from Nottingham Forest’s promotion campaign last season, and the United faithful were hoping to see more of their academy product under Erik ten Hag this season.
However, he hasn’t played a single minute and United consequently allowed him to leave, with The Toffees snapping him up for just £15m and seeing the 21-year-old pen a four-year deal.

    2. Manuel Akanji
A signing which went massively under the radar for most, Manuel Akanji joined Manchester City for just £15m early on deadline day.
The centre-back comes in with Champions League pedigree from his time at Borussia Dortmund, and is an strong ball-playing defender.
Pep Guardiola experimented with an interesting 3-2-3-2 in the second half against Newcastle in order to salvage a draw against The Magpies, so the signing of Akanji could hint at another tactical evolution for City under Guardiola.

    1. Billy Gilmour
The £9m acquisition of Billy Gilmour from Chelsea by Brighton could turn out to the coup of the summer.
Brighton had been scouring the market looking for a player to replace Yves Bissouma before finally landing on Gilmour, who could now re-ignite his stuttering career under Graham Potter.
Potter has had success with other Chelsea products, namely Tariq Lamptey who when fit is often among the most dangerous wing-backs in the division, and if similar magic can be worked on Gilmour he could soon command a huge transfer fee.

Everton outcast Andre Gomes joins Lille on loan transfer after failing to play a single minute for Lampard this season

EVERTON have shipped out Andre Gomes on loan to Lille. The Portuguese midfielder has not played a single minute of football under Frank Lampard this season, and only featured in the squad for The Toffees 1-1 draw with Leeds.
Andre Gomes suffered a number of injuries throughout his time at EvertonCredit: Times Newspapers Ltd
And following deadline day acquisitions for James Garner and Idrissa Gueye, the Everton engine room was looking cramped.
A statement on Everton’s website confirmed the deal.
They said: “Everton midfielder André Gomes has joined LOSC Lille on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.
“The 29-year-old, who made a permanent move to Goodison Park in the summer of 2019 having impressed during a season-long loan from Barcelona in 2018/19, joins the Ligue 1 outfit after making 100 First-Team appearances for the Blues.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
“Portugal international Gomes, who was part of his nation’s European Championship win in 2016, has previously won league titles in his homeland and Spain.”
In his 100 appearances for Everton, Gomes registered two goals and seven assists.
Last season the 29-year-old played 14 times in the Premier League, with most of these coming either from the bench or when the squad suffered a shortage.
Everton were also bolstered in midfield earlier in the window when they brought in Amodou Onana for £32.4million.

It means the deal for Gomes to join the Ligue 1 side sees the two teams effectively swap players for the season.

Transfer deadline day: Sex toys, duff deals and Jim White… 7 reasons we love the last day of the window

Fire up the fax machine! It’s nearly transfer deadline day! Will your club snap up a bargain before the window slams shut?
Nothing screams deadline day more than Sky Sports’ huge timer
Jim White and Natalie Sawyer’s co-ordination was a sight to behold back in the day
Will they land that striker they desperately need?
And will any television reporter have a sex toy shoved in their ear like Sky Sports’ Alan Irwin did back in 2017?
All these questions and more will be answered before 11pm tomorrow night.
In the meantime, here’s why we love transfer deadline day…
    1) THE ENDLESS RUMOURS…
In this day and age, where social media is all-powerful, it only takes someone to tweet about a bloke who looks a bit like Lionel Messi in a B&Q in Huddersfield and the rumour mill goes into overdrive.
Tall bloke with a ponytail seen buying a jumbo sausage roll at Charnock Richard services?
Andy Carroll on his way to Wigan, obviously.
Man with hairband spotted buying an Italian phrasebook in WH Smith?
    Jeff Hendrick’s off then.

    2) THE DEALS THAT DON’T GO THROUGH
It’s always enjoyable to see a deal collapse, especially if it’s a player your team’s rivals have been banking on.
It could be a problem with the paperwork as it was with David De Gea’s failed move to Real Madrid in 2015.
It could be missing the deadline by mere seconds, like Leicester did with Adrien Silva five years ago.
The midfielder couldn’t play for the Foxes for six months after they handed in documents for his signing 14 seconds late.
Or it could be just getting the wrong end of the stick, as Peter Odemwingie did when he turned up to sign for QPR in January 2013 only for the club to refuse him entry to the car park.
Peter Odemwingie took matters into his own hands to try and secure a move

Footballer laughs off failed transfer and says a move is called an ‘Odemwingie’
    3) THE 11TH HOUR MADNESS!
If you believe everything you read, hear and see as transfer deadline day comes to its dramatic conclusion, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it’s like some Hollywood action movie.
Players fly across the country in choppers.

Agents pull strings and call in favours.
Megabucks offers and counter-offers are thrown this way and that.
And everyone is frantically trying to make deals happen.
Even though they’ve had a whole month to do it.4) THE DEALS GET EVER MORE COMPLICATED…
Undisclosed fees. Release clauses. Swap deals. Money plus player. And we’ll chuck in Asmir Begovic.
As the deals that become more complex, so the use of clichés increases exponentially.
Snags, stumbling blocks and sticking points.
    Bids being hijacked.
Price tags being ‘slapped’ on players.
Dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.
And yes, I’ll be using all of them – and more – on transfer deadline day.

    5) THE LAUGH-A-MINUTE LATE SHIFT FOR TV REPORTERS…
It’s cold. It’s dark. And you’ve got to stand in car park at a training ground in the middle of nowhere giving live updates on a transfer that nobody really cares about.
If you’re lucky you have may have some news to report.
If you’re unlucky, like Sky Sports’ Irwin, you may have some company.
Or Mark McAdam too, who once had a sex doll shoved in his face.

One presenter had a sex toy dangled in his faceCredit: SKY SPORTS
Sky Sports News presenter is hit with a dildo on transfer deadline day in 2014
    6) THOSE AWKWARD NEW SIGNING INTERVIEWS…
If you’re playing Transfer Deadline Day Bingo make sure you keep an eye out for the player that leaves a big club for what is clearly a smaller one and tells the press that when he “heard that Watford were in for me it was a no-brainer.”
    Nailed-on to happen, you watch.
    7) YOU CAN WATCH SKY SPORTS NEWS ALL DAY…
And never once take a moment to question how your life’s panned out as you read about Coventry City’s pursuit of an Estonian striker (with a name you can’t pronounce) scroll across your screen for the 18,000th time that day.
Legendary presenter Jim White built a reputation for his epic stints on our screens for what seems like every deadline day in memory.
And although he left Sky last year, White is still going strong on talkSPORT.
But who could forget that iconic yellow tie? More
