Chelsea want to sell Ziyech to Roma and not rival Prem clubs in transfer blow to Tottenham and Newcastle

CHELSEA would prefer to offload unsettled Hakim Ziyech to Roma rather than a rival Premier League club. The Italians want the Moroccan winger but need to sell midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo first to raise funds for a £25million deal.

Tottenham and Newcastle have also been linked with Ziyech, 29, who looks set to leave Chelsea this window to end a frustrating two-and-a-half years in English football.
But the Blues seem prepared to give Roma time to secure the money instead of selling to the highest bidder.
The transfer window in Italy closes next Tuesday – the same day as in England – but four hours earlier at 7pm UK time.
Ziyech is keen to move to Italy for a fresh start.

He has found himself out of favour with a number of Chelsea managers.
He was signed by Frank Lampard in July 2020 but tumbled down the pecking order under his successor Thomas Tuchel.
Wideman Ziyech has not found the going any easier under current head coach Graham Potter.
That is despite enjoying a starring role for his country at the World Cup last year.

Morocco reached the semi-finals then lost the third-place play-off to Croatia in Qatar.

Ziyech played all of Chelsea’s last game, away at Liverpool, last weekend but only because of the huge injury list.
He has a contract until 2025 but both parties are keen on a clean break.  More

Danjuma was expected to sign for Everton, but Tottenham swooped in to hijack the deal in the final moments.
The Toffees, who sacked Frank Lampard on Monday after eight defeats in nine, thought they had clinched the loan signing from Villarreal.
Danjuma, 25, had already had a medical on Merseyside at the weekend.
However, with the paperwork yet to be signed off, Spurs sneaked in at the 11th hour.

Danjuma travelled down on Tuesday to have his Tottenham medical.
Tottenham released a statement confirming the signing saying: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal until the end of the 2022/23 season, subject to international clearance.”
Last season Danjuma was a regular starter with the Yellow Submarine in their run to the Champions League semi-finals.

Tottenham confident of completing Pedro Porro transfer in days with £40m deal with Sporting close to being agreed

TOTTENHAM are growing increasingly confident of completing a £40million deal for Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro in the next few days.Spurs boss Antonio Conte has been on the look-out for a right wing-back to fit his system since the summer, and Porro, 23, is their main target.

An offer of £32.5m has already been rejected this month, with Portuguese side Sporting remaining stubborn over the player’s £40m release clause.
But SunSport understands that following talks between both clubs over the past two days, an agreement is close to being reached to meet that figure this window.
The £40m deal would include add-ons and bonuses – as Spurs chairman Daniel Levy continues to spend big in order to prove to Conte he can build him a title-challenging squad.
Once on the books at Manchester City, Porro has made almost 100 appearances in all competitions since joining Sporting on loan in 2020.

Should the deal go through, City would benefit with a 30 per cent sell-on clause, having left Manchester permanently in May 2022 for £7.2m.
The Spain international is expected to be thrown straight into the starting XI to kick-start Tottenham’s season, replacing the likes of Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal.
The signing would see the north London club’s spending over the course of this season surpass £200m, having spent £170m on seven players in the summer.
Back on October, Conte said: “We know this situation with the club and the club knows very well we need time and patience, to try to go step by step.

Tottenham wanted me to GET RID of Harry Kane says ex-manager Tim Sherwood as he reveals star’s best attribute

TOTTENHAM wanted to get rid of Harry Kane before he made his Premier League debut, according to former manager Tim Sherwood. The England captain, 29, moved level with Jimmy Greaves as Spurs’ all-time leading scorer on Monday night as he bagged his 266th goal for the club in their 1-0 win over Fulham.

He also moved to 199 Premier League goals, nine behind Wayne Rooney and 61 shy of Alan Shearer’s record.
But before his devastating prowess in front of goal became Tottenham’s most valuable asset, he was struggling out on loan at the likes of Norwich and Leicester.
And Sherwood, who handed Kane his first Premier League start for Spurs in April 2014, has revealed the club wanted to move him on.
But he insists he had belief in the striker’s ability and was a driving force in keeping him at White Hart Lane.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Speaking in his column for The Mail, he said: “Every manager that took Harry on loan said he wouldn’t make it. There wasn’t one who said he would.
“If they tell you different, they’re lying. I’m not knocking that. It was their opinion at the time.
But I never judged Harry when he was away from Tottenham. I thought it was the best for his development – to play competitive football.
“I’d go watch him. At Millwall in 2012, there was an intense atmosphere. But that was exactly what he needed. For him to keep putting that shirt on when he hadn’t scored, only to end up being named Millwall’s Young Player of the Year, showed the character of the boy.

“When Harry came back to Tottenham after a series of loans, I advised him not to accept any more offers and to stick around and fight for his place.
“The manager previous to me, Andre Villas-Boas, had no intention of putting him in.
“Franco Baldini was sporting director and he wrote off Harry, saying he wasn’t good enough for the Premier League. Tottenham wanted me to get rid of him.
“There were clubs who wanted Harry. But I wouldn’t do that. I wasn’t listening. I was saying: ‘The boy is good enough.’
“I was told I was ‘biased’ towards the younger players. I wasn’t. I just wanted to win and Harry was best equipped to do that for me.”
Kane scored on his Premier League debut in a 5-1 win over Sunderland and went on to bag two more league goals before the end of the 2013/14 season.
Since then, he has scored 24 goals or more in all competitions for eight successive campaigns.
And Sherwood pinpointed Kane’s work rate as his best attribute.
He added: “I hate ‘natural talent’. There’s no such thing as a ‘natural’ footballer.
“It takes hard work, and no one typifies that more than this boy. Harry worked hard. He still works hard.”

Kane will look to move out on his own as Spurs’ all-time top scorer when they travel to face Preston in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
He will also see the competition as an opportunity to win a first major trophy of his career.

Harry Kane’s impressive Dream Team season partially obscured by Erling Haaland’s nonsense numbers

IN pretty much any other season, Harry Kane (£7.6m) would be the Premier League’s headline act for scoring 16 goals before the end of January. The 29-year-old is on track for a 30-goal campaign in the top flight, something he’s only achieved once before, in 2017/18.
However, Kane’s mightily impressive effort has been partially obscured by Erling Haaland (£8.8m), English football’s new apex predator.
    Changing the gameCredit: getty
Manchester City’s No9 has started writing a new chapter in the Premier League record books having plundered 25 goals from his first 19 appearances.
At the halfway stage, the prolific Norwegian poacher is just seven goals shy of Mohamed Salah’s (£8.6m) record of 32 goals in a 38-game season and he’s nine short of the record jointly held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer for most goals (34) in a single Prem campaign, both achieved when the league contained 22 teams.
Such has been the remarkable nature of Haaland’s nonsense, Kane’s campaign has seemed distinctly normal in comparison.
In reality, however, the England captain has once again underlined his credentials as a world-class centre-forward.
This is particularly true given the problems Tottenham are currently experiencing in regards to attacking fluency.
Take nothing away from Haaland, he is unmatched at what he does, but leading the line for Man City is a considerably more desirable role than fronting up Antonio Conte’s side right now.
Not many players could 16 league goals in half a season for this Spurs team on current formCredit: getty
On Monday night, Kane scored the only goal as Spurs beat Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage, a good result given the Cottagers results upon their return to the top flight.
    Most read in Dream Team
In doing so, the three-time Golden Boot winner equalled Jimmy Greaves’ record of 266 goals for the club.
Additionally, his next league goal will be his 200th, a landmark previously reached by just two players: Wayne Rooney and the aforementioned Shearer.
There will always be talk of trophies (or lack thereof) when Kane is the topic of discussion but to doubt his pedigree as an individual is to deny clear truth.
Kane remains an elite Dream Team asset
Naturally, Spurs’ No10 is set for another prosperous Dream Team campaign.
A Star Man display in west London on Monday night moved him onto 158 points in total, making him the third-best asset in his position -behind Marcus Rashford (£5.4m) and Haaland – and the fourth-best player overall.
He’s a full 72 points ahead of his next-best team-mate, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (£3.3m), an indication of how reliant Spurs are on their top scorer this term, especially with Son Heung-min (£5m) enduring a rare fallow period.
It’s thanks to Kane that Conte’s troops are still in the hunt for Champions League qualification and whether they finish inside the top four or not, Dream Team gaffers can rely on the Three Lions marksman to deliver plentiful returns as long as he’s fit. More

How Sarri could line-up if Tottenham signed the Chelsea duo
He has become frustrated at the North London side, while the club do not appreciate his frequent jibes.
However, Spurs are believed to have already identified Sarri as his replacement.

The former Chelsea boss is currently at Serie A side Lazio, who sit fourth in the table following Juventus’ points deduction.
Should the Italian get the job, then he could move for a reunion with former players Jorginho and Christian Pulisic.

The duo are believed to be on the way out of the club this summer.
Jorginho’s contract is set to expire, while Chelsea will try to cash in on the American winger as he does not feature in Graham Potter’s plans.
This could pave a way for moves to the North of London.
Sarri has typically used a 4-3-3 system, which would accommodate the duo quite easily.

Jorginho could line up in the midfield trio alongside Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur.
While Pulisic would be able to take up a position on either flank of the attack.
Another potential that Sarri could have to deal with is the exit of star striker Harry Kane.
The England international has been linked with a move to Manchester United.
If Kane was to leave, then Sarri could deploy a false nine system and build his attack around Pulisic, and Dejan Kulusevski, with Son Heung-min playing centrally.
Jorginho could then line-up with Bentancur in the middle of the park, with Emerson Royal and Ryan Sessegnon playing as wing-backs.
