And that was met by a chorus of boos from supporters as they were dumped out of the Champions League 1-0 on aggregate in the last-16.
That has condemned the North London club to a 15th-straight year without silverware as pressure mounts on boss Antonio Conte.
The Italian has refused to sign a new deal with fans also growing fed up with his uninspiring and negative tactics.
Spurs are currently fourth in the Premier League.

That’s a position that Conte did well to guide them to last season, but with this result coming just seven days after a shock FA Cup defeat at Sheffield United, unrest is mounting.
Supporters also regularly protest for chairman Daniel Levy to leave the club and the future of the club’s record goalscorer Harry Kane also remains unclear.
Back in 2017, ex-England international Rose spoke exclusively to Sun Sport and urged Tottenham to sign world-class players while he was still playing for them.
And he also insisted that he did not believe he or his Spurs team-mates were paid their true worth.

The 32-year-old, who is now a free agent after a stint at Watford, was covering the Milan disaster for Sky Sports on Wednesday.
And he admitted that he had to be careful what he said as he took aim at his old employers.
Rose said: “You say they have the best stadium… you can have the best house but if the furniture’s not the best inside then it’s irrelevant.
“Going at the hierarchy… I still look to go into the Spurs training ground so I’ll have to be careful what I say but I think that everybody has to be held accountable.
“I heard something recently that the signings have not been great and it’s bizarre as I’m sure I said something like that six years ago and got fined two weeks wages but here we are.
“Everybody has to be held accountable and I think it will be interesting to see where they go from here until the end of the season.”

And that initially led to BT Sport host Jake Humphrey stating that the Champions League last-16 showdown had been pushed back until 8.30pm.
However, just as his pundit panel of Glenn Hoddle, Rio Ferdinand and Peter Crouch discussed the impact of a delayed start a fresh update was issued.
Humphrey then informed viewers that it had now been confirmed that the action would still get underway at it’s original time despite the rush to get ready.
Then, in another twist, it was finally announced that the match would kick-off with a TEN MINUTE DELAY at 8.10pm.

Italian news outlet TV Dello Sport had early shared footage of the Spurs team coach gridlocked in traffic while travelling to the ground.
The Serie A side lead the tie 1-0 following their first leg victory.
It comes just 24 hours after Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund was also DELAYED following the late arrival of the German giants.
The West Londoners produced a thrilling comeback to win 2-0 at Stamford Bridge and 2-1 on aggregate to reach the quarters.

Kick-off was due to take place at 8pm, but the late arrival of the Dortmund bus has scuppered that.

The Germans turned up nearly 30 minutes late due to major congestion around Stamford Bridge, which was in part caused by thousands of fans of both teams walking through the streets of west London.
Dortmund’s late arrival left them with less than an hour to prepare for the second leg of the tie – which led to a ten minute delay. More

We hate living near major Premier League ground… parking is a nightmare, our cars get damaged by fans & cops won’t help

RESIDENTS living near a major Premier League ground say that parking is a nightmare and that fans keep damaging their cars – but cops won’t help.Chaotic parking, road closures and a mass of noisy sports fans near the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have left residents furious.

One local, who wished not to be named, has been affected first hand by rowdy crowds when her car wing mirror got knocked off by football fans.
The resident lives along Bromley Road, which is often used to herd football fans as security tries to separate the home and away supporters.
She said: “This road is sometimes where they herd fans through so it is always very busy with people.
“They can be trouble. Our car wing mirror got whacked and broken and when we went to the police they just said ‘you have car insurance’.”

For events, the roads around the area are closed, making it difficult for residents to get out or in.
The local added: “My husband had to go to work one day and he couldn’t get out.

“He had to argue with the stewards because he had to go to work and they wouldn’t budge.
“In the end he was allowed to go but it shouldn’t have to take him arguing to go to work.”
Parking also is challenging during game days, when some residents are forced to park far from their houses because visitors take over the spaces.
The disgruntled local said: “You can get permits to park but it is normally not near the house and it is hard to find spaces.”
As the chanting football fans or concert goers meander past, it’s impossible to not hear them.
She said: “It’s extremely noisy when the fans are herded down the road but they are not always too bad. It depends on the game really.
“The times we worry is when we have a football team that is kind of local like Arsenal. Then the crowds can be bad.
“We complain but nothing really happens.”
Another resident said: “The road is closed all the way to Seven Sisters so I see that it can be inconvenient.
“And the tubes and trains are completely over crowded making travelling anywhere from here difficult.”
“There are sometimes some crazy people and when they congregate together they can be more boisterous.”
Local Codon Traian, 40, dreads big game days.
He said: “There is a lot of noise and it can be dangerous because there are fights.
“People smash those Corona bottles so it is bad sometimes.”
While the construction worker does not feel worried going out on game days, he does fear for his son.
He added: “I don’t feel scared but I do have a son and I would be scared for him.”
One resident, who didn’t want to be named, shared this opinion and simply said: “It’s absolutely terrible.”
Not all residents mind living next door to Spurs.
Sarah Ring, 30, said: “I think it’s great having it there.
“There are so many events available for residents – they even do career days.
“It’s great going down there when events are on as they have lots of markets so it’s really fun to take the kids.
“It’s very safe during big events. There are so many stewards. It feels very safe.”
The mum said: “It’s a really good system. They put letters through our doors about upcoming events so we are prepared.
“Road signs are put up too telling us which roads will close and they are very quick when the event has finished to move the barriers and put everything back to normal.
“When the new stadium was built they ensured that there was a level of sound proofing.”
Sarah added: “It’s not as loud with the new stadium, you can’t hear it really and when you can it doesn’t bother me.

“The club has really boosted the area and I’m sure pushed up the value of houses as more is going on here now.”

Spurs are deep in a top-four battle and are trailing in their Champions League round of 16 tie with AC Milan.
Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is still widely loved among Spurs fans, has been linked with a return.
However, another top drawer manager available is Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked by Chelsea earlier this season and replaced with Graham Potter.
And talkSPORT host Woods, an Arsenal fan, says Tuchel would be a “great fit” at Tottenham, which got under the skin of Blues fans.

Woods said on talkSPORT: “I just don’t know whether it’s ever good to go back.
“Of course we can look at the ones where they did go back and it did go well – Mourinho going back to Chelsea and that sort of stuff – but I don’t know with Mauricio Pochettino whether it would be the best move for him.
“I actually think Thomas Tuchel would be a great shout. Managers who come back into the league and who have something to prove.
“Seriously, though, I just think with Thomas Tuchel, in the small space of time that he came into Chelsea and arranged that team – they’d already got top four from Frank Lampard so they had a lot of young talent, he made a few changes and won the Champions League.

“I don’t know, I just think that kind of personality that he has, to go into a team like Spurs, who just look like they are devoid of enjoyment at the moment and lacking something.
“Go get the best out of Son, go and put a rocket up them. I honestly think that would be a great fit.
“I could be wrong, but I love Thomas Tuchel, I think he’s amazing.”

One far from pleased Blues fan responded, saying: “Tuchel will never ever join a club without ambition. Know this and know peace.”
Another tweeted: “If Conte and Mourinho didn’t win anything with Spurs – just know Spurs can’t be helped!” More

He told French outlet 90football: “When I arrived at Benfica, I saw the 15-year-old boys, I was shocked! They are the first in the gym. After training, in the gym.

Mauricio Pochettino ‘wants emotional Tottenham return in summer’ but former manager could spark internal power struggle

MAURICIO POCHETTINO allegedly “wants a nostalgic return” to Tottenham if Antonio Conte departs at the end of the season. The Argentine, who we revealed has eyes on the Chelsea job, has been out of work since being axed by French giants Paris Saint-Germain in July.

The 51-year-old former Southampton manager enjoyed a memorable five-year spell at Spurs and guided them to the Champions League final in 2019.
Despite that, he was still axed the following November but is believed to have “remained on good terms” with chairman Daniel Levy.
Now The Times says that Pochettino “is among the names being considered by Tottenham to replace Conte” as the Italian “is increasingly likely to return to Italy at — or before — the end of the season”.
Since the South American’s departure, Spurs fans have been forced to watch three successive coaches that deploy a more pragmatic style of football.

But Poch, who still lives in Hertfordshire, “would change that” and he “also has a strong bond” still with supporters.
However, the report adds that what “is less clear is whether Levy would swallow his pride” and also if managing director Fabio Paratici would want Pochettino remains in doubt “as it would provoke an internal power struggle and potential conflict over the tactical system”.
Paratici has brought in managers that prefer to play with wing-backs while Pochettino usually deploys a back four.
Poch, who won Ligue 1 with PSG last season, turned down an approach by Aston Villa for a swift return to football last year.

And he has also thrown his hat into the ring to become England manager after Gareth Southgate.
Spurs sacked Poch was sacked by Tottenham after five-and-a-half years in charge back in November 2019.
Despite not winning a trophy for Spurs, he guided the club to four consecutive Champions League finishes.
Prior to his arrival, Spurs had finished in the top four in just two of their previous 22 seasons in the Premier League.
He also took the club to the Champions League final in 2019, but Liverpool prevailed as they won 2-0.
After replacing Tim Sherwood in 2014, Poch took charge of 293 games, winning 159, losing 72 and drawing on 62 occasions. More

Spurs are seeking a replacement for Hugo Lloris, 36, who is expected to leave in the summer as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.
And sporting director Fabio Paratici has reportedly enquired about the possibility of signing Szczesny from the Serie A giants.
But according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the ex-Arsenal man has slammed the door shut on a potential move.
He is said to be keen on remaining at Juventus – where he is under contract until 2024 and could see that deal extended by a further year.

Spurs’ interest in Szczesny has caught some by surprise given the former Arsenal man has mocked the Lilywhites in the past.
In 2016, when Tottenham were beaten 5-1 by already-relegated Newcastle on the final day of the Premier League season, he tweeted “Spurs” alongside a crying laughing emoji and a love heart.
Then two years later, when Juventus knocked Spurs out of the Champions League, he tweeted:  “Great win and celebrations versus one of the best teams in North London.

The France No1 is sidelined for at least another month with a knee injury as Fraser Forster assumes the role in between the sticks.
