He joins initially on loan until the end of the season, with an obligation to buy at the end of the campaign.
The loan fee for Spanish international Porro will cost around £4.4million, and it will cost another £37.3m when they turn it permanent in the summer.
Manchester City, where Porro spent three seasons but never played, are due a windfall of around £10.2m when the move is made permanent in the summer.
That is due to a clause when they sold the defender to Sporting that entitled them to 30 per cent profit on his next transfer.
The transfer had seemed to be on the brink of collapsing before deadline day.
Sporting were reluctant to sanction the move until they were happy with the finances involved in the deal.
But those problems were ironed out, and Porro becomes Spurs’ second first-team signing of the month after Arnaut Danjuma’s arrival from Villarreal.
Speaking about his move to Tottenham, Pedro Porro said: “I feel great about the move. I really wanted to come here. It’s unique opportunity for me and I hope everything goes well.”

On him fitting in well to Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system, he added: “Yes, I think it will be a very good thing for me, and that’s also why I was so struck by the prospect of playing here.”
To make way for the incoming Spaniard, Matt Doherty sensationally had his contract mutually terminated so he could join Atletico Madrid.
Irishman Doherty, 31, was initially due to be borrowed by the La Liga giants.
But because fellow right wing-back Djed Spence was farmed out to Rennes, Spurs were at their limit for international loans.
Fifa rules state only eight players can be loaned abroad in a season.
Tottenham already were at that number due to Gio Lo Celso (Villarreal), Tanguy Ndombele (Napoli), Harry Winks (Sampdoria), Sergio Reguilon (Atletico Madrid), Destiny Udogie (Udinese), Bryan Gil (Sevilla), Joe Rodon and Spence (both Rennes) all temporarily being away from the club.
Doherty still had just under 18 months to go on his Spurs contract before both player and club agreed to terminate it.
SunSport understands Atleti boss Diego Simeone was not involved in the deal but that instead it was done at boardroom level.
The two clubs are believed to be on excellent terms ever since Spurs sold Kieran Trippier – another right wing-back – to Atletico in 2019.
Spence’s temporary switch to Rennes is only a straight loan as the 22-year-old bids for more game time, having made just six appearances and NO starts this season.

Tottenham also poached Jude Soonsup-Bell, 19, from Chelsea on a deal until June 2025, adding the England Under-19 striker to their development squad.
While Spurs youngster Harvey White, 21, was also loaned out to League One side Derby. More

Tottenham RIP UP Doherty’s contract as he joins Atletico Madrid on permanent transfer – but there’s a good reason why

TOTTENHAM mutually agreed to terminate Matt Doherty’s contract to allow him to join Atletico Madrid.Spurs had looked set to send the Irishman on a straight loan to Atletico.

But due to already having eight players farmed out internationally – the maximum according to Fifa rules – they instead allowed him to leave for nothing.
A Spurs statement read: “We have mutually agreed to the termination of Matt Doherty’s contract to enable him to join another club.
“We should like to thank Matt for his service and wish him well for the future.”
Doherty was in Madrid yesterday looking to tie up his switch to Atletico.

The Irishman did have 18 months remaining on his Spurs deal.
And now Doherty is expected to finalise a free transfer to Atletico.
In doing so he follows in the footsteps of previous Tottenham right-back Kieran Trippier, who moved for £30million in 2019.
Doherty was set to become Spurs’ third-choice wing-back following the imminent arrival of Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon.

However, he is now set for a career reprieve after Atletico made a surprise loan bid – despite Diego Simeone supposedly not knowing who he is.
In 2016, and while still playing for Wolves, the right-back revealed he was a huge fan of Simeone’s Atletico side.
Doherty even posted about his admiration for the club on Twitter.
And with a transfer to Atletico now taking place, Doherty’s tweet from almost seven years ago has gone viral with fans of the Spanish giants. More

Spence arrived at Tottenham from Middlesbrough for £20m last summer.
But Antonio Conte soon revealed that he was signed by the club rather than himself.
And he’s hardly had a look in this season.
Spence hasn’t started a single game in any competition and has been on the pitch for just 41 minutes across six outings.

And he’s been an unused substitute on 14 occasions.
This comes despite Matt Doherty, who’s set to join Atletico Madrid, and Emerson Royal being unable to nail down a regular place themselves.
A host of clubs, including Leicester, Brentford and Crystal Palace have all been keen on a loan deal this month.
But we exclusively revealed how his exit was being held up due to Spurs’ refusal to include an option to buy.

And Spence has now headed to France, where he will link up with Joe Rodon, who’s been with Rennes since the summer.
His new side are just six points outside of the Champions League places and the England Under-21 ace will have the chance to play in Europe with a Europa League play-off to come against Fenerbahce.
With many Tottenham fans disappointed with how the last seven months have panned out, several have been reacting on social media.
One said: “Will be great for his development, Conte definitely wasn’t going to play him.”
A second said: “Of all the apparent offers to take him on loan I’m a bit surprised and disappointed to see him go there.”

A third chimed in with: “Make zero sense to me, but at least Rennes are competitive in Ligue 1 and hopefully that’s enough for Conte to see his value.”
Another said: “I just cannot get my head around not sending him to a Prem team to actually develop him for our first team!” More

Arsenal and Tottenham tipped to make last-gasp Allan Saint-Maximin transfer after Newcastle sign Anthony Gordon

ARSENAL and Tottenham should make a late bid for Newcastle forward Allan Saint-Maximin, according to former Premier League striker Louis Saha.Saint-Maximin, 25, has struggled for game time at St James’ Park so far this season.

He was plagued by injuries at the beginning of the campaign, suffering from hamstring and other muscular problems.
But he has been fit since the end of October, with Eddie Howe still opting not to start him in a single Premier League game.
He has not been named in a Newcastle XI in the league since the end of August.
That is despite Saint-Maximin acting as the shining light for the Magpies last season.
    READ MORE ON ARSENAL
The team appear to be thriving without him and even added to their forward line in the January transfer window through the acquisition of £45million man Anthony Gordon.
And Gordon’s arrival is one Saha believes Arsenal and Tottenham should capitalise on by trying to sign the out-of-favour Saint-Maximin.
Speaking to GGRecon, the former Man Utd, Spurs, Everton and Fulham forward said: “All young players should see how quick football goes.
“It’s unbelievable because last season Saint-Maximin was unreal and nobody would have been thinking about the prospect of Newcastle selling him.

“He’s been unlucky this season with injuries, but he’s a top player and he could potentially find a move to one of the ‘big six’ clubs.
“I could see Arsenal or Tottenham having a player of Saint-Maximin’s quality and style.”
The Gunners have already added to their forward line this month through the signing of Leandro Trossard from Brighton for £27m.

Spurs have also done business in attack, stealing Arnaut Danjuma from under Everton’s noses in a loan deal until the end of the season.
But Saint-Maximin could still add something to both squads, with Arsenal going for the title and Tottenham looking to clinch a top-four spot.
The Newcastle forward has contributed 13 goals and 19 assists in 109 games since arriving from Nice for £16.5m in 2019.

When City sold Porro to Sporting for £11m last summer – although only £7m has been paid so far – they included a clause in the deal that entitled them to 30 per cent of the profit that the Portuguese club made from the full-back’s next move.
And with the profit Sporting will make on Porro possibly rising to as much as £34m, City could get £10m of that.
Sporting are closing in on a permanent deal for ex-Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin as a replacement for Porro.
Porro’s arrival in North London made way for Matt Doherty to join Atletico Madrid while summer signing Djed Spence could go out on loan, if a deal can be done in time.
