Tottenham to get creative in January transfer window with three shock exits on the cards and some left-field arrivals

TOTTENHAM may have to get creative in January if they want to bolster their injury-hit squad.Spurs are not flush with cash for the upcoming transfer window.

They are not in Europe so have no extra income from that competition.
While much of the £104million raised by the sale of Harry Kane has already been spent on the likes of Micky van de Ven and Brennan Johnson.
It means Spurs may have to look to loans with obligatory fees when the window opens, like they did with the signings of Pedro Porro last January and Dejan Kulusevski 12 months prior to that.
Ange Postecoglou’s squad has been badly hit by injuries, with star players Van de Ven and James Maddison out until the New Year.

Ryan Sessegnon, Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon are all long-term absentees too.
Spurs are likely to do some business in January, albeit any fan expecting a raft of signings will likely be disappointed.
Most probable is the club brings in a new centre-back, with Lloyd Kelly of Bournemouth among their targets.
A new attacking recruit is less likely, given Solomon will be back in January, though an unexpected sale – such as Richarlison, who has been linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia – could change things.

Feyenoord’s Argentine sensation Santiago Gimenez is a player Spurs are tracking, as is Jota at Al-Ittihad in Saudi.
In midfield, the current expectation is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso will stay unless they push to leave or the club receive offers they feel they cannot turn down.
Spurs are certainly not actively looking to offload either player, particularly with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr heading to the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
It is not beyond the realms of possibility that Eric Dier goes in the New Year, despite the Englishman coming back into the team following Van de Ven’s injury.
But Spurs would be looking for a decent fee for the 29-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer, and would have to replace him instantly.
Dier was being considered in the summer by Bayern Munich, who of course signed Kane.

Ferguson has attracted interest from several top sides this season, including Tottenham.
However, it would take more than the £115million Chelsea paid Brighton for Moises Caicedo in the summer to sign Ferguson.
According to talkSPORT, Brighton value the teenager at over £100m and there is no release clause in his new contract.
Spurs remain interested, though, having identified Ferguson as a long-term successor to Harry Kane, the report adds.

Kane sealed a £104million move to Bayern Munich in the summer, leaving a void in the Spurs attack.
Manchester United and Chelsea are also admirers of Ferguson, who is said to be in no rush to leave Brighton, but Manchester City are not currently targeting a move.
Ferguson joined Brighton from Bohemians in 2021 after making his debut for the Irish side aged just 14 in a friendly against Chelsea.
Now 19, he has already scored three goals in eight senior caps for Ireland and is Brighton’s top scorer in the league this term.

Ange Postecoglou is looking to bolster his squad after a strong start to the season in the wake of injuries to James Maddison and Richarlison.
Those and other injuries have left his squad short and after back-to-back defeats, Spurs are understood to be eyeing a centre-back, two attacking midfielders and a forward in January.
Goncalves, who has a £60million release clause, is one of the names being targeted to ease the burden on Maddison in attacking midfield.
Scouts have watched the 25-year-old multiple times this season, most recently in the derby against Benfica on Sunday.

Goncalves’ versatility has caught the eye of Spurs, as he can play on both wings as well as behind a central striker or even deeper in midfield.
He has already racked up five goals and four assists this season and previously finished as Liga Portugal’s top scorer in the 2020/21 season with 23 goals.
Arsenal fans are already familiar with his talents too, after their Europa League exit at the hands of Sporting back in March.
Goncalves scored from the halfway line at the Emirates Stadium during their round of 16 second leg to send the match to penalties, where Sporting would win 5-3.

Tottenham ‘line up Champions League star with better record than Haaland to replace Harry Kane in bargain £39m transfer’

TOTTENHAM are lining up a move for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, according to reports.Ange Postecoglou’s men have started the season in fine form and sit just two points off the top of the Premier League table heading into the international break.

But back-to-back defeats at the hands of Chelsea and Wolves have slightly dampened the mood around the club.
And while they have seemingly not missed record scorer Harry Kane as much as many expected, they could still seek a replacement in January.
Richarlison has struggled to hit the back of the net since Kane’s exit and is now sidelined following surgery.
Son Heung-min has been playing through the middle, but his more natural position remains the left flank.

According to Caught Offside, Gimenez, 22, is Spurs’ preferred striker ahead of Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic.
The Feyenoord marksman has netted 15 times in 15 matches for the Dutch giants so far this season – a better goal to game ratio than Manchester City’s Erling Haaland – who has 17 in 18 games in all competitions.
It is understood Gimenez would set Tottenham back around £39million.
But they face competition from Chelsea who could splash the cash once more in January.

“We probably ran out of legs at the end there, which is understandable as a lot of those guys haven’t played.

Chelsea ace Sterling appeared to pick up an object thrown from the home end
It was suggested the England attacker threw the object back towards fans
Cole Palmer tucked home a penalty and put his finger to his lips.

But nothing was spotted on the night by match officials.
Now the FA have reviewed the incident and decided there is no need to pursue a case against the 28-year-old.

Postecoglou is desperate to find a defensive replacement as their summer signing Van de Ven pulled up with a serious-looking hamstring injury in Monday’s 4-1 defeat to Chelsea.
The Dutch international is set for a scan once the swelling has gone down before the club decides on his expected return.
Meanwhile, Spurs centre-back Cristian Romero is suspended for the next three games after being shown the red card.
This has left the Aussie with Eric Dier and 18-year-old Ashley Phillips as his defensive options.

According to the Standard, Tottenham are set to reignite their interest in Kelly who was a deadline day target in the summer.

The left-footed former England Under-21 international can cover left-back and seems like a great fit for Posteceoglou’s side.
Kelly joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in a £13million switch in 2019.
And he has since played 124 times for the Cherries, helping them to promotion from the Championship in 2022.
But to pave the way for the centre-back Spurs are hoping to cash in on Dier in the January transfer window – who has appeared just one this term.
This is despite the 29-year-old delivering an impressive performance against the Blues, in which he unluckily had a goal disallowed by VAR for being offside. More

The 26-year-old was substituted in the first half after picking up a problem with his ankle.
Fears of the severity of the damage seemed to have been allayed when England boss Gareth Southgate named him in his latest squad when he announced it on Thursday.
However, Tottenham announced earlier that Maddison has withdrawn from Three Lions duty and will stay at the club to continue his recovery.
He has undergone a series of examinations this week to try and establish the extent of the damage on his ankle.

He said: “Madders a lot worse than we first thought. Was bad the next day. Again into the New Year with him.”
The prospect of being without Maddison, who has shone for the North London club so far this term, long-term will come as a bitter blow to the Aussie amid his growing list of absentees.
