Jose Mourinho’s desperate striker chase takes new twist as Tottenham plot transfer swoop for Southampton’s Danny Ings

TOTTENHAM’S desperate search for a striker has seen them turn their attention to Southampton’s Danny Ings, according to shock reports.
Jose Mourinho is doing all he can to find back up for Harry Kane – especially given how lacking in ideas Spurs looked in the 1-0 defeat to Everton.

The Portuguese claimed before his side’s season-opening loss that he was confident a new forward will arrive during this window.

What is not so clear is whether that will be on a permanent or loan basis.
Spurs have a “strong, long-held” interest in 28-year-old England striker Ings, say Football London.

The 28-year-old former Liverpool man scored an impressive 22 goals for the Saints last season after overcoming injuries.
But while Tottenham reportedly plot a move, the club’s transfer bosses are said to doubt they can land Ings this summer.
Should that not work out then Mourinho – who slammed his side’s “lazy press” against the Toffees – looks ready to raid the continent for a new signing.
Metz striker Habib Diallo has been on his radar since January.

The 25-year-old Senegalese front man is said to be eager to make the move to the Premier League, while Benfica’s Carlos Vinicius is another who has caught the eye of the ex-Porto manager.

Torino skipper Andrea Belotti, 26, has also entered plans after scoring 22 goals in all competitions last season.
Napoli forward Arkadiusz Milik is definitely on Tottenham’s radar, however a £28million fee and big wages are putting off financially prudent Spurs.
While Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu said Spurs are interested in signing Alexander Sorloth, on loan at the Turkish club from Crystal Palace.
Tottenham are also looking at RB Salzburg’s Zambian hitman Patson Daka.
Asked recently about bringing in a partner for Kane, Mourinho said: “Yes, I want, I need a striker.
“The club — the structure above me — knows I need a striker and also wants a striker.
“Are we going to get one? I believe so.
“The team needs it because at this moment the squad is getting very balanced, with different options for different positions.”

West Brom close in on Troy Deeney as they ‘make progress’ in transfer for Watford legend

The Hornets are thought to have all but given up hope of keeping skipper Deeney after they were relegated into The Championship.

And the 32-year-old was not involved in Friday night’s opening 1-0 win over Middlesbrough.
Football Insider reports the Baggies have ‘made progress’ towards agreeing the terms of the deal but are ‘still working’ on getting it over the line.
Slaven Bilic’s Premier League new boys appear to have overtaken Tottenham in the race to secure Deeney’s services.

Spurs emerged as shock contenders to bring Deeney back to the top flight with the club only having ONE striker.
Jose Mourinho is desperately searching for a forward to provide cover for Harry Kane with young gun Troy Parrott on loan at Millwall.
Daniel Levy has also looked abroad to bolster the ranks.
But reports suggest Torino have rejected a loan offer for Andrea Belotti.

Spurs are thought to have wanted the Italy international on loan for this season but with an option to sign him for £46.3million next summer.

But it appears West Brom have the edge in the battle to land the former Walsall man as he begins the final year of his Watford contract.

Torino reject Tottenham loan offer for Belotti with £46.3m option to buy and will only sell him on a permanent transfer

TORINO have rejected Tottenham’s loan offer for Andrea Belotti, according to reports.
It is thought Spurs wanted to take the striker on a temporary basis for this season with the option to sign him for £46.3million next summer.

But according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Torino would only want to let Belotti go if they could guarantee a transfer fee.
So a loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season may be a more likely option for a deal to get done.
Belotti, 26, is understood to have a £92.6m release clause in his Torino contract.

But that clause, valid until June 2022, is only valid for teams outside of Italy.
The Italian joined Torino from Palermo in 2015 and has scored 92 goals in 192 appearances for the Serie A club.
Belotti also has nine strikes in 28 international caps for the Italian national team.
Tottenham have already brought in keeper Joe Hart, defender Matt Doherty and midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Jose Mourinho is keen to add another centre forward – although any new signing knows they will have to play as back-up to Harry Kane.

Napoli’s Polish ace Arkadiusz Milik is believed to be his No 1 target but he is also looking at RB Salzburg’s Zambian hitman Patson Daka and Metz’s Senegal striker Habib Diallo.
Mourinho said: “Yes, I want, I need a striker.
“The club — the structure above me — knows I need a striker and also wants a striker.
“Are we going to get one? I believe so.
“The team needs it because at this moment the squad is getting very balanced, with different options for different positions.”

Tottenham star Steven Bergwijn tried to get Donny van de Beek to snub Man Utd and join Tottenham instead

STEVEN BERGWIJN tried to get Donny van de Beek to join Tottenham before his Manchester United transfer.
Dutchman Van de Beek joined United for £39million – beating Real Madrid and Spurs to the signing.

It came after 23-year-old Bergwijn – who played with the midfielder at Ajax – sent his international team-mate messages about moving to Tottenham.
Van de Beek, 23, said: “I have to say that he just sent me a message: ‘Are you coming to us or not?’
“We often have contact. We used to play together at Ajax for a long time and have actually always kept in touch.
“I think we will see each other again soon.

“But I chose to join United. It’s a fantastic step, and I think now is the right time.”
Van de Beek provides Old Trafford boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with his first signing of the window.
But it left former Arsenal player turned pundit Merson scratching his head, with United already filled with options in central midfield.
With Premier League rivals having already strengthen their squads, United were accused of rushing into business.

Merson told the Daily Star: “Donny van de Beek looks like a panic buy at Manchester United. I don’t get it.
“They just spent £40m on a position where they are already strong and how does he play with Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes?
“You have to have someone who can play the holding role.
“That signing looked to me like: ‘Oh we haven’t bought anyone yet, let’s go and buy someone, who can we get?'”

Tottenham transfer blow as Barcelona block Jose Mourinho’s move for Lucas De Vega after £1.8m bid rejected

TOTTENHAM have reportedly pulled out of the race for Lucas de Vega after Barcelona rejected a £1.8million bid.

Jose Mourinho had also picked up on de Vega’s ability and tested the water with a bid in the week.
However, according to Sport, Barcelona have asked for around double the £1.8m offered – in the knowledge Spurs would pull out of the deal.
Barcelona have struggled to keep their top prospects in recent years with Manchester United newboy Marc Jurado and Instagram-famous midfielder Xavi Simons just two youngsters to leave.
La Masia did send teen sensation Ansu Fati to the first-team last year but star talents have been few and far between lately, contributing to the angst around the crisis club.

With next season’s third-tier Segunda B season coming ahead of a rejigging of the Spanish lower-league system, the club are desperate for Barcelona B to achieve promotion.
Therefore coach Garcia Pimienta has been allowed to keep de Vega and make him a focal point of the Blaugrana reserves.

Tottenham get their season underway at home to Everton on Sunday, September 13 with four new signings under their belt.
Joe Hart, Matt Doherty and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have all signed up, plus Wigan youngster Alfie Devine.

Milan Skriniar has reportedly been identified as a fifth summer buy.
The Inter Milan centre-back could replace Juan Foyth after the Argentine was transfer-listed by Mourinho, along with Serge Aurier and Tanguy Ndombele.

Tottenham’s £45m transfer bid for Nicolo Zaniolo rejected by Roma as Mourinho eyes Italy international playmaker

TOTTENHAM have reportedly had a £45million for Nicolo Zaniolo bid rejected by Roma.
The North London club were linked with a move for the 21-year-old last summer, but nothing materialised.

And according to beIN Sports reporter Tancredi Palmer, Mourinho has made his move.
But chairman Daniel Levy will have to loosen the purse strings a bit more with their initial £45m offer turned down.
Despite Roma’s struggles on and off the pitch this campaign, Zaniolo has been one of their standout players.

In total, the player has chipped in with eight goals and four assists in 33 games in all competitions.

He still has four years left to run on his deal at the Stadio Olimpico.
Spurs’ Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United are also believed to be sniffing around.
Ligue 1 champs Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with Zaniolo too.
The creative midfielder won his first senior cap for Italy during the 2-0 win over Finland in March 2019.

The Premier League opening day fixtures for 2020-21 have been revealed

He has gone on to feature five times in total, scoring twice.
Spurs are reportedly edging closer to signing Wolves star Matt Doherty for £15million.
The 28-year-old has been at Molineux since 2010.
Mourinhois said to have been particularly impressed with his performances with the Midlands side since they have been back in the Premier League.

Fans ask Matt Doherty to delete embarrassing 2012 tweet saying ‘I love Arsenal forever’ ahead of Tottenham transfer

TOTTENHAM fans have been left sighing after uncovering old Arsenal supporting tweets from imminent arrival Matt Doherty.
The Wolves defender has never hidden his allegiance to the red half of North London.

But that may create an awkward atmosphere when he puts pen to paper on a move to Spurs later this week.
Jose Mourinho’s side are forking out £15million plus add-ons for the 28-year-old, who has excelled at Wolves under Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, the signing could become marred by old tweets sent by Doherty while still a youngster at Molineux.

In one 2012 post, the right-back proclaimed to “love Arsenal forever and ever and ever”.

And that led to Spurs fans asking the Irishman to quickly erase his Gooner past.
Tottenham supporter Alex tweeted: “Yo delete this ASAP.”
One fan replied: “Might want to delete fella.”
Jim commented: “Tryin’ not to get mad at this.”

While Alfie optimistically wrote: “Eight years ago and he’s finally seen the light and is now joining the better club in North London, dub.”
Doherty bagged past Arsenal in Wolves’ April 2019 victory over the Gunners and admitted afterwards it was a dream to face his boyhood team.
He said: “I was a big Arsenal fan growing up, [Dennis] Bergkamp was my favourite player, I used to get the kits for Christmas.
“Even now, I look out for their results and now I get to play and score against them, which is unbelievable.”
    MATT’S OUT THE BAG
The player sent a number of tweets to show his support while on loan in League One with Bury.
In September 2012 he tweeted: “Yes I’m a HUGE Arsenal fan !”
Later that month he wrote: “Man I love Arsenal and btw Jenkinson is quick but Gervinho could of won it for us at the end but take the point tho.”
Soon after, Doherty confirmed his Gooner affection by writing: “I love arsenal forever and ever and ever.”
Naturally, Arsenal fans jumped on the episode for yet more ammunition to wind up their cross-city rivals.
One Twitter Gooner stated: “Forever in our shadow, please don’t forget it.”
