Tottenham agree loan for Benfica’s Carlos Vinicius with view to £41m permanent transfer as Mourinho eyes Kane back-up

TOTTENHAM have reached a deal with Benfica over striker Carlos Vinicius.
The North London club are desperate to land a forward to support Harry Kane before the transfer window closes on Monday.

And Spurs agreed a move with Benfica for their front man, with the 25-year-old arriving at Tottenham today.
Initially it will mean a season-long loan for Vinicius at White Hart Lane.
But it is understood there will be a clause in the contract to make the transfer permanent for around £41million next summer.

Vinicius only signed for Benfica from Napoli for £15m a year ago but impressed in his debut season with the club.
The Brazilian scored 24 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions.
He is understood to have an £89m release clause in his Benfica contract, which runs until 2024.
But the financial impact of coronavirus and Benfica missing out on Champions League football mean they are open to doing business.

At 6ft 3ins but with rapid speed, he is comfortable playing through the middle as a No9 or out wide and should be able to ease the burden on Kane.

Boss Jose Mourinho has also been linked with Bournemouth’s Joshua King as well as Swiss star Haris Seferovic.
And as revealed by SunSport, Spurs are in talks with Napoli over a £25m deal for Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik.
The ex-Ajax frontman – who has also been linked to Manchester United – has scored 48 goals in 122 appearances for Gli Azzurri.
Mourinho is confident he will get his wishes before deadline day ends.
He said: “Yes, I want, I need a striker.
“But I want to make it very, very clear that the club – the structure above me – knows that I need a striker and also wants a striker.
“Are we going to get one? I honestly believe so. For the balance of the squad, the team needs it because at this moment the squad is getting very balanced, with different options for different positions.”

Celtic make Ryan Sessegnon transfer approach with ‘several Premier League clubs’ also interested in Tottenham defender

CELTIC have made a move to sign Tottenham youngster Ryan Sessegnon, according to reports.
The former Fulham winger, 20, has struggled since his £25million move to Spurs last summer.

Sessegnon featured just 12 times last term – scoring once – and hasn’t played a single minute this season.
Reports in Scotland now claim Celtic are hoping to rescue Sessegnon from his North London hell, having been signed by former boss Mauricio Pochettino.
However, the report also states the Hoops are finding it difficult to negotiate the finances of the deal and face competition from “a number of Premier League clubs”.
Scotland-based Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph tweeted: “Celtic made an approach for Spurs left-back Ryan Sessegnon.

“But Sky Sports News understands the finances of a potential deal have proved problematic.
“A number of Premier League clubs are also interested in the 20-year-old.”
Last month, it was claimed Jose Mourinho would give Sessegnon a shot in the first team.

The Portuguese boss was said to have rejected loan moves from the likes of Barcelona, such was his faith in the youngster.

But even amidst a packed schedule – including two games, against Newcastle and Chelsea, in 48 hours – Mourinho is yet to give Sessegnon a run-out.
Sessegnon’s chances at left-back will be limited after Mourinho brought in Sergio Reguilon, with Ben Davies and Danny Rose also on the books.
And further up the pitch, Son Heung-min is the undoubted No1 left winger, with the likes of Gareth Bale, Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn and Erik Lamela all competing for minutes out wide.
Old club Fulham have already been linked with a move for Sessegnon.
However, co-owner Tony Khan admitted his side were in the market for a centre-back above all else, for now.
The Cottagers have since been linked with a shock move for Inter Milan star – and Tottenham target – Milan Skriniar.

Chelsea outcast Antonio Rudiger wanted by Tottenham in shock transfer after Frank Lampard gives defender axe this season

CHELSEA defender Antonio Rudiger is a shock transfer target for Tottenham, according to reports.
The German, 27, has not featured for the Blues in any of their games so far this season despite turning out for his country in the Nations League.

Rudiger – who claimed he was racially abused at White Hart Lane last season – was on the bench against Brighton on the opening weekend but has not made the matchday squad since.
And according to Sky Sports, Spurs are ready to pounce.
Rudiger is thought to be open to a loan move away from Stamford Bridge in an attempt to get game time with the European Championships taking place next summer.
However, Chelsea are reluctant to allow a temporary switch to a direct rival.

The two clubs have not done business with each other since Carlo Cudicini joined Tottenham in 2009.
Speaking on Monday before they face off in the Carabao Cup, Blues boss Frank Lampard refused to speculate on the ex-Roma man’s future.
With two years left on his current contract, the £31million ace has also been linked with West Ham, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and even Liverpool.
He said: “I wouldn’t assume anything. I wouldn’t assume Antonio or any players in the squad (are leaving).”

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho is desperate to get in another centre-back before the transfer window closes.
His side were chasing Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar and recruitment chief Steve Hitchen travelled to Italy for negotiations.
But the San Siro’s valuation of the Slovakia international was too high for Tottenham – now a deal looks to be off the cards. More

Tottenham open talks over Man Utd transfer target Milan Skriniar but Inter want £55m for centre-back

TOTTENHAM have opened talks with Inter Milan over defender Milan Skriniar, according to reports.
The Slovakian centre-back is a transfer target for Manchester United this summer.

But journalist Fabrizio Romano believes it is the North Londoners who are in negotiations.
However, the sticking point could be the price tag with Inter hoping to get as much as £55million for the 25-year-old.
Any suggestion Tanguy Ndombele may be used as part of a swap deal have been ruled out, though.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his back-line this summer.
Jan Vertonghen left for Benfica at the end of last season leaving Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Juan Foyth as the main centre-backs.
And Skriniar fits the bill for the Special One.
He still has three years left to run on his current San Siro contract, meaning Inter do not need to sell the player they signed from Sampdoria in 2017.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw Skriniar as the perfect foil for Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s defence.

But it is reckoned PSG are also in the hunt after letting Thiago Silva leave on a free transfer for Chelsea.
Spurs, though, look to be in pole position as things stand with discussions underway.

PSG open talks for Dele Alli transfer after being dropped by Spurs boss Jose Mourinho

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN have opened talks with Dele Alli over a stunning transfer, according to reports.
The England midfielder, 24, was dragged off at half-time against Everton a week ago and has not made the last two matchday squads.

That includes not being involved at all for the win at Southampton.
And according to The Telegraph, PSG are hoping to take advantage with a plot to land the ex-MK Dons man.
The French giants are thought to be long-term admirers of Dele.

But it is unclear whether they would pursue a full permanent transfer or a loan with the option to buy – the latter is more likely.
Dele – who signed for Tottenham in 2015 and has 62 goals in 223 appearances – was offered to Real Madrid as part of the deal which saw Gareth Bale return to White Hart Lane.
Inter Milan are also showing interest in the playmaker, who looks to be out of Jose Mourinho’s immediate plans at Tottenham.
But the chance to reignite his career alongside Kylian Mbappe and Neymar at PSG would surely appeal to the 37-cap Three Lions star.

Dele was hauled off at the break against Everton with ex-England international Gabriel Agbonlahor claiming that the pair had a bust-up prior to the match.

The two-time PFA Young Player of the Year did not even travel to Bulgaria for the Europa League qualifier against Lokomotiv Plovdiv on Thursday.
And then he was reportedly left ‘upset and confused’ by his omission at St Mary’s.
Commenting on his decision to leave Alli out, Mourinho said: “We have a huge squad, a squad with numbers that’s very difficult to manage.
“I don’t have issues, it’s for me to be here with 18 players, I start with Son, with Lucas, with Harry, on the bench I have Sissoko and Lamela.
“We have too many players for some positions and some of them are paying the price of this.”
    ‘COP OUT’
Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle admits Jose Mourinho’s counter-attacking style does not suit Dele but insisted leaving is not the answer.
Hoddle, 62, said: “That is the easy way out. That’s a cop out. He and Jose have to talk about it and he needs to adjust his game.
“The manager picks the teams and the way you are going to play. You have to adjust to that.
“I think he is capable of that but don’t down tools, pick up your tools and add to them.
“Become a better player in a different way. I think that’s what he will do.”

Spurs plot shock £30m transfer bid for Man Utd midfielder Jesse Lingard as Mourinho seeks reunion with ‘ignored’ ace

TOTTENHAM are plotting a shock £30million transfer bid for Jesse Lingard, according to reports.
The Manchester United midfielder, 27, has seen his career stagnate over the past two years since Jose Mourinho left Old Trafford.

But according to the Daily Star Sunday, the Special One is hoping to reignite his career in North London.
Lingard has struggled for game time and form under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has not started a Premier League match since January.
The report adds the England international was fuming at being left out of the matchday squad for the opening game of the season against Crystal Palace.
It is even suggested Lingard has tried to reach out to the club for showdown talks over his future – but has been ignored.

The playmaker who came through the United academy and has 207 first-team appearances, came back from pre-season in peak condition but it appears he is not part of Solskjaer’s plans.
Bruno Fernandes is the first-choice No10 and has been in fine form since arriving last season.
So Mourinho may hope to capitalise on Lingard’s frustration and try to get the best out of him again – especially with Dele Alli’s future unclear.
Speaking during the 2018 World Cup, Lingard credited his then-United boss for his support and help.

He told talkSPORT: “[Mourinho] has been great with me. He’s put that trust and faith in me to play me in big matches week-in, week-out.
“It’s only up to me to repay that faith by playing well and putting on good performances.
“He’s played a massive part in my development and I can only thank him for that.”
Spurs completed the signings of Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid on Saturday.
They join Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty and Joe Hart as the summer arrivals.
