Tottenham have won just one of their three Champions League games and Conte warned that his squad is unprepared for the competition.
Following Spurs’ goalless draw with Eintracht Frankfurt Conte said: “We weren’t able last season to face two competitions.
“Now we have to go step by step, have patience, take time, you need to have time and to build an important squad to face a competition like the Champions League.
“If you think ‘yeah I want to make some rotations’ and it is a bit difficult.

“We know this situation with the club and the club knows very well we need time and patience, to try to go step by step. I spoke about the transfer market, that we needed more transfer markets to reach a good level.
“We know this. At the same time we want to be competitive, to try to do everything.”
Summer signings Richarlison, Clement Lenglet and Ivan Perisic all started against Frankfurt and Arsenal but could not help Spurs to what would have been two big wins.
Yves Bissouma and Djed Spence also arrived in the summer but have been unable to force their way into the team and have just one start between them.

Fraser Forster is in a similar situation, although he was brought in as back-up to Hugo Lloris, while left-back Destiny Udogie was signed from Udinese and loaned back to the Serie A club.
Conte could look to improve his squad in January with the addition of a player he has managed before – Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.
Spurs were also linked to Monaco winger Gelson Martins last month and Conte could be keen to add to his attack when the transfer window re-opens. More

KEVIN TRAPP’s girlfriend Izabel Goulart will have been pleased to see her partner keep a clean sheet when Eintracht Frankfurt played Tottenham. That is because a defeat would mean a sex ban for the goalkeeper as Trapp, 32, has repeatedly refused to make love to Izabel, 37, after a bad result throughout their relationship.

The former Victoria’s Secret model admitted almost four years ago that she and the famous goalie have sex “four or five times” per week.
But no matter how hard she tries, the Brazilian model won’t get any action if the Germany international suffers a bad night on the pitch.
Izabel said in 2018: “Kevin and I make love a lot — four or five times a week.
“But if he has played in an important game and his team loses, I can make myself beautiful, have my nails done and wear my best lingerie – and there still won’t be any sex.”

Thankfully for the couple’s sex life, Trapp managed to keep a clean sheet this week against Tottenham, with his side drawing 0-0.
It’s certainly a big improvement from Eintracht’s start to the Champions League which saw Trapp concede three goals to Sporting Lisbon.
The draw with Spurs means Eintracht remain well in contention to progress to the knock-out phases of Europe’s elite competition.
They find themselves on four points after three games putting them level with Spurs, who they play again next week.

Arsenal vs Spurs sees clash in styles where stopping Thomas Muller-like Jesus is vital as Conte plots smash and grab

IT’S back, baby. This weekend sees the return of the Premier League following the international break and first up is a mouth-watering clash between Arsenal and Spurs in the North London derby. This is a fixture which is never short of passion, both on and off the pitch, but this season it feels different. For the first time in a while, both sides are performing well and competing towards the top of the Premier League table with Arsenal currently sitting in first and Spurs in third. There is also a sense that this match brings up an intriguing contrast in tactical styles.
Mikel Arteta and Antonio Conte favour different stylesCredit: Getty
Under Mikel Arteta we have seen Arsenal adapt into a very impressive possession-based side who use a lot of principles of positional play (as Manchester City do under Pep Guardiola). On the other hand, Spurs are a side who have been created very much in the image of their coach Antonio Conte – horrible to play against, compact and rapid on the break. We know Arsenal will rotate and try to find ways to dominate the space in the final third and we know Tottenham will try and bully their rivals before getting the ball forward quickly.
Which style will come out on top and can Arsenal find the space in the final third that they need to play in their style?
    Gabriel Jesus, space invader?
At his peak for both Bayern Munich and Germany, we saw Thomas Muller perform as arguably the most effective and interesting forward in European football for many years.

His game was not about his physical or even his technical abilities – but about his ability to recognise and use space. To put it more simply, Muller was very rarely where opposition defenders thought that he would be and he never really played as a striker or an attacking midfielder but instead as something in between the two.
There are similarities between that version of Muller and what we are seeing so far from Gabriel Jesus this season for Arsenal. Let’s be clear though – Jesus is a very different footballer than Muller. He has the physical and technical base that the German seems to miss plus the Brazilian forward is extremely effective in terms of finding and occupying space and never being where the opposition defenders think that he should be. Better than Muller? Possibly, yes.
Even when Jesus is positioned in the penalty area he is exceptionally difficult to defend against. He will constantly be looking to play on the blind side of the defender and this allows him to drift into space and attack the ball when it is played into the area
Jesus has a clear tendency to drop out of the penalty area and to look for opportunities to pick up possession in the channels or even in the wide areas. When doing so he forces the opposition defender to make a choice. Do they follow the Brazilian out and leave their defensive position or do they allow him to drop out and pass the problem to someone else? This idea will be key on Saturday with Conte preferring to play in a back-three system. Will he leave three defenders with essentially no one to mark or will he instruct one defender, likely Cristian Romero to follow the Brazilian closely? And if it is Romero, in which minute does he get booked for kicking Jesus up in the air?
    Most read in Football
The heatmap for Gabriel Jesus this season is instructive as you can see how often he drops out of the area and how he positions himself in intelligent areas across the final third of the pitch
Part of the danger of Jesus in this Arsenal side lies in his ability to drop out of the area before quickly moving back into the area at an angle to attack a pass or to look for opportunities to attack the weak points of the opposition defence.
After picking up the ball deep Jesus plays a quick one-two and makes a dynamic run to access the space in the opposition area and to create a goalscoring opportunity
Jesus is quick, dynamic and decisive and he wants to get on the ball deep before then making a pass and making aggressive runs to break the last line and break through into the penalty area. How Spurs deal with his threat will be one of the keys to this match.
Arsenal want to be in control
To an extent, we can expect Arsenal to control the ball for large parts of this match. The whole “300,000 passes” thing came out this week and Arsenal are completing more passes per match than at any other time under Arteta. It’s not just sideways and back either, they are completing more passes than before in their opponent’s half.
Here, they are the home side and Arteta very much prefers a style of play in which they will look to control possession in the first two-thirds of the pitch before then being a bit freer with their movement in the final third.
We can contrast that to Spurs where they will play with a line of three defenders, none of whom are particularly well known as ball-playing defenders. There will be a double pivot ahead of them in the midfield with Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg controlling the centre. You could also make the argument this season that Spurs have shifted to being more effective defensively than they are going forward with the much-vaunted attack of Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min (and now Richarlison) struggling to an extent to get going this season. Son’s taken much of the flak until his hat-trick last time out, but none of them have really set the league alight yet this campaign.
How though will Arsenal look to control the centre while still being effective in the attack against a strong Spurs defensive block? The answer lies in the fullbacks.
The positioning of the Arsenal fullbacks, and especially Oleksandyr Zinchenko, is key for Arsenal and Zinchenko will look to get on the ball in central areas before looking to progress the ball through and into the final third
The signing of Zinchenko in the summer from Manchester City was one of the keys for Arsenal as he has allowed Arteta to play with inverted fullbacks who look to take up central spaces when the side are in possession of the ball. This is something that the Scottish international Kieran Tierney is less comfortable with. In possession Zinchenko on the left and, to a lesser extent, Ben White on the right will now come inside into the centre of midfield.
These movements from the Arsenal fullbacks then allow the attacking players, including Martin Odegaard from the ‘10’ position, to push high and into the attacking third. Even when the opposition win the ball back the positioning of the fullbacks in inverted positions allows Arsenal to retain a solid defensive base that makes it hard for the opposition to get out effectively.
Here we have the heatmaps so far for both Zinchenko and White this season in the Premier League. While they are both happy to move inside to play in inverted positions you can clearly see that Zinchenko is much more active in his approach to controlling the centre
This match will be interesting to see how the two coaches balance their approach in the attack and defence. If Conte leaves his wide forwards high out of possession will Arteta still be confident in allowing his fullbacks to move inside? As the midfielders for Arsenal push up how will Spurs retain their central structures? We believe that Conte will be less inclined towards taking a risk and this will allow Arteta and Arsenal to control the space and the game. And it really does come down to what they do with it.
    Spurs and their defensive core
If we are right in that Conte will be more risk averse in this match and cede the control of the match to Arteta and Arsenal (while still looking to attack through quick transitions) then the performances of the two midfielders in the 3-4-3 shape that Conte prefers will be key.
In the summer we saw the club complete the signing of the Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma but so far the Malian international has struggled to break into the first-choice midfielder with both Bentancur and Hojbjerg continuing to impress. There’s been talk of Bissouma struggling to get up to speed tactically, meaning Conte continues to trust last season’s pairing.
As Leicester play out from the back here and into the midfield we can see that the Spurs attackers are largely passive. As soon as the Leicester player receives the ball though, and while facing his own goal, we see Bentancur being extremely aggressive in stepping in to regain possession and start an attacking transition
While the defensive line and back three for Spurs are relatively passive and deeper in their positioning the two midfielders ahead of them will be aggressive in their approach to preventing Arsenal from being able to play through and into central areas. Rodrigo Bentancur has shown himself to be an extremely effective ball winner in central areas with his physical capacity to run all day and enter into more physical challenges to try to regain possession.
Here, Spurs have got Southampton pinned into their defensive third and as they look to escape with a pass to one of their most advanced players it is again Bentancur who is first to step in and look to win possession back quickly
With the danger that Arsenal pose with the likes of Zinchenko and the Swiss international Granit Xhakha on the ball it will be exceptionally important for Bentancur, and to a lesser extent Hojbjerg, to be strong and active against the ball in looking to move high quickly to disrupt the Arsenal attacks. If they can turn the ball over time and time again here, then that will allow them to feed that front three early and who knows what damage they could do to the Arsenal backline.
    What does all this mean?
Look, you probably didn’t need us to tell you that Arsenal will look to get on the ball and Spurs will look to hit them on the break.
The keys here are about what happens when that does happen – if Jesus can find space and drag the Tottenham back three into areas they do not want to be, that will be dangerous.
    Read More on The Sun
But, if the Spurs midfield duo can win that battle and release the front three early then we could see a memorable smash-and-grab from Conte’s side.
The most likely result? As always, in a game like this, the highest probability is it will be a draw. Let’s just hope it’s an entertaining one.

EMERSON ROYAL has been doing everything he can to adapt to the lung-busting demands Antonio Conte puts on his wing-backs.It has seen the Brazilian and his managerial team, led by his dad Emerson Zulu, spend £800,000 on goods and services to improve his performance.

That includes buying a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, to put the defender in better condition for those hellish runs up and down the pitch.
A personal scouting report of Achraf Hakimi was commissioned so Royal could study the game of the Paris Saint-Germain star, who shone under Conte as a wing-back at Inter Milan.
While he has even been working with a neuroscientist to help cope with the psychological pressures of being an elite athlete.
Royal, who is naturally a right-back rather than wing-back, joined Spurs from Barcelona in August 2021 for 25.8million.

The 23-year-old has copped flak from some Spurs supporters who want more from his end product in the attacking third of the pitch.
Those grumbles have been valid at times but one thing Royal can never be criticised for is his dedication to honing his craft.
That work ethic goes some way to explaining why Conte, a performance obsessive, has relied so heavily on him.
Royal came on as a substitute in the 6-2 thrashing of Leicester just before the international break but prior to that fixture, he had started the last 18 games on the trot.

And there is a strong possibility he will return to the starting line-up for the mouth-watering North London derby at arch-rivals Arsenal tomorrow lunchtime (SAT).
Conte likes Royal’s defensive capabilities but the Sao Paulo lad knew he must improve both physically and technically going forward to flourish in the Italian’s system.
He has been doing lots of extra work outside of Spurs training to boost his fitness, with much centering around recovery.
That has seen the ex-Real Betis loanee invest in a Vitaeris 320 hyperbaric chamber, which looks a bit like a bed and helps the user receive more oxygen to heal quicker.
Royal’s father was the one who hired a scout to do a write-up on Hakimi, whose success from transforming himself under Conte at Inter into an excellent wing-back was seen as an example from which to learn.
Dr Fabiano de Abreu Agrela, a neuroscientist and human behaviour specialist, has been brought on board and credited by others close to Royal for helping him focus more and worry less.
The Portuguese, with Brazilian citizenship, who also works with Chilean international and former QPR loanee Eduardo Vargas, was asked by SunSport how much Royal has bought into his methods.
Dr De Abreu replied: “Totally, he trusts and bets on it from the beginning.
“He is willing to do what it takes to give and be at his best.
“It’s not easy for a player to leave a type of culture and expectations and go to the fastest and most demanding league on the planet. This adaptation plays with the mind.”

Conte hailed Royal for being “totally involved in every game” when speaking about the Brazilian earlier this month, and said he had made a “good improvement” from last season.
The Brazilian may come across as a jokey character on social media, but his investment in his game suggests he is deeply serious about making his spell at Spurs an undisputed success.
