That has led to the pursuit of Wales international James, who only joined Leeds last summer from Manchester United for £25million.
James was named as a substitute for Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw at home to Everton in favour of recent signing Luis Sinisterra.
And afterwards Whites boss Jesse Marsch did not exactly rule out allowing the ex-Swansea speedster to leave.
Marsch said: “I like Dan and I think he has been a big part of what we have done here before I came and since I have been here.

“I don’t anticipate big movement in the group, but we have to see what happens in the next 24 hours.”
Spurs are proposing a loan switch with an option to buy for James.

There have been reports of interest in Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea but SunSport understands that is unlikely.
Gil, 21, spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia and, despite being named as an unused sub for Spurs’ first three games of the season, is ready to go back temporarily to the Mestalla.

Valencia boss Gennaro Gattuso confirmed the deal hinges on Tottenham signing a replacement first when speaking at the weekend.
The former Italy international said: “We have closed a deal for Bryan, Tottenham have told us that it is 99 per cent done. We have been waiting for him for two or three days.
“Tottenham have told us that they have to sign a replacement so that he can travel. We are waiting for Tottenham to sign another player.” More

Tottenham ace Winks joins Sampdoria on loan transfer as boss Conte says he didn’t want to be ‘selfish’ by keeping him

Yves Bissouma’s arrival in North London from Brighton shunted Winks down the pecking order.
Conte said: “If I wanted to be selfish I’d say maybe it’s more convenient for Winks to stay.
“Five strong midfielders, with Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Bissouma, [Oliver] Skipp and Winksy, for me that is OK.
“Players want to play regularly. They want to try to have a different challenge.

“Sometimes it doesn’t depend only on the club or the coach.”
Winks has been with Spurs since the age of five but is without a Prem start since February.
Conte added: “Last season he played with us and he played well. It is a good opportunity for Sampdoria, especially.
“They are getting a really good player. And also for Harry, to go outside of England and play in an important league. It will be good. Then next season we will see.”

Spurs face London rivals West Ham tonight, who have just one win and one goal from four games.
Conte said: “Last season they reached the Europa League semi-final.
“We are talking about a team with great experience. Players with good ability and good talent and they  spent good money to become stronger. David Moyes is one  of the  coaches with the most experience in this league.”
Spurs have sealed a £42.5m deal to sign Cristian Romero on a permanent basis after the Argentina ace, 24, helped them into the Champions League on loan last season.
Earnings from that  will dwarf the fee paid to  Atalanta for the defender, who signed a five-year deal.

Tottenham confirm loan transfer of Sergio Reguilon to Atletico Madrid as boss Antonio Conte culls squad

SERGIO REGUILON has returned to Spain after signing for Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan from Tottenham. The 25-year-old has failed to deliver in North London after joining from Atletico’s city rivals Real Madrid in 2020.
Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon has linked up with Atletico Madrid on loan
Spanish defender Reguilon hasn’t featured in any match for Spurs this season
The left-back lost his place in the Spurs team to Ryan Sessegnon under Antonio Conte last season.
And following the arrival of wing-back Ivan Perisic, the ex-Sevilla loanee was deemed surplus to requirements by the Italian gaffer.
He has been omitted from all four of Spurs’ opening Premier League clashes with Conte banishing him from the first-team squad.
Reguilon was linked with a switch to the Wanda Metropolitano last week prior to Spurs’ 2-0 away win at Nottingham Forest.

And he has now sealed a return to LaLiga, with a Tottenham statement reading: “Sergio Reguilon has joined Atletico Madrid on loan for the 2022-23 season.”
Reguilon departs Spurs having scored twice in 67 games in all competitions.
He had seemed destined to join Lazio before Atletico entered the fray.

Atletico do not have an option-to-buy clause in their loan agreement for the player.
Reguilon isn’t the only star Spurs have shipped out on loan with Tanguy Ndombele signing for Napoli, including a £25million buy option.
Meanwhile Giovani Lo Celso has returned to Villarreal on loan after spending last term with the Yellow Submarines.
And academy graduate Harry Winks is also set to follow the trio out of the door with Sampdoria hopeful of bringing him in on a temporary basis. More

TOTTENHAM have announced the permanent signing of Cristian Romero. The defender, 24, initially joined Spurs on loan with an option to buy last summer.

The club revealed the news with a short video on social media that ends with Romero giving two thumbs up to the camera.
Romero has made 32 appearances for Spurs and is a key player under Antonio Conte, which is why the Italian has made him his eighth signing of the summer.
Reports earlier this summer claimed Spurs would splash out £40million to land Romero on a permanent basis.
He has signed a five-year contract after Spurs triggered his release clause – which reportedly expired at the end of August.

Romero becomes the club’s eighth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie, who has returned to Udinese on loan.
But Conte is still not satisfied and has his sights set on Atletico Madrid wing-back Yannick Carrasco.

Spurs are in talks to sign the Belgian for around £25m with Atletico open to selling.
Carrasco would provide competition for Emerson Royal but he is also capable of playing higher up the pitch and on the left flank too.

Tottenham ‘open talks with Atletico Madrid over Yannick Carrasco transfer’ with wing-back set to cost £25million

TOTTENHAM have opened talks with Atletico Madrid to sign Yannick Carrasco, according to reports.Antonio Conte is a big fan of the Belgian, 28, having previously tried to sign him for Spurs on January transfer deadline day.

Atletico did not want to sell at the time but they will now listen to offers of around £25million, report The Telegraph.
Carrasco has been an important player for Diego Simeone since his return to the club following a two-year spell in China – but the Spanish giants are reportedly under pressure to sell to meet LaLiga’s salary cap.
Manchester United also showed an interest in Carrasco earlier this month but are concentrating their funds on signing Antony from Ajax.
That means Spurs are the frontrunners for Carrasco with Atletico prepared to sell before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

If he signs Carrasco would provide competition for Emerson Royal at right wing-back, despite Matt Doherty and £20m summer signing Djed Spence also being able to play that role.
But his versatility means Carrasco can also play further forward and on the left-flank – much like Ivan Perisic.

If Carrasco does arrive he will be Spurs’ eighth signing of the summer – but boss Conte believes they are still short of competing with teams at the top level.
He said: “If you compare to last season, we are more complete.

“But to reach other teams at the top level, we need time, patience and transfer markets, at least two transfer markets to reach the same level.”

Antonio Conte begs Harry Kane to sign new Tottenham deal NOW and help him lead Spurs to trophies at last

Having tried to force his way out of the club and secure a move to Manchester City 12 months ago and seeing fresh links with Bayern Munich this summer, Conte says Kane is happy again in North London.
And the Italian boss thinks that is down to the direction the club are heading in under his management.
Spurs will return to the Champions League next month and are third in the Premier League table heading into Wednesday’s London derby against West Ham.
Asked if now was the ideal time for Kane to put pen to paper, Conte said: “Yeah, the perfect time but you know very well that you create the perfect time with a project.

“If also the player understands that there is a right process, that everybody is going in the same direction, I think every single player wants to see this.
“And I think that Harry for sure is happy because he is seeing this type of situation.
“There is a vision, there is a direction and there is a unity to try to improve the team to be the team at the level of his expectations.”
Conte is keen to see his star man agree a new deal and put to bed any talk of leaving again that may come over the next two years.

However, the England striker – who scored his 200th goal in English league football at Nottingham Forest on Sunday – may be reluctant to do so before his manager does.
Conte is out of contract at the end of the season and is always reluctant to signal his commitment to a long-term project.
For now, he is just pleased that Kane is happy.
The former Chelsea boss added: “My opinion is only one of a million opinions [trying] to force the club, to tell the club ‘sign a new contract for Harry Kane’.
“Because we are talking about a world-class striker and a player who in this moment is the most representative player for Tottenham, no?
“For sure I would like him to sign a new contract.
“In this moment, for me it is very important to see him happy, totally involved with this season, this project and in what we are doing. For me this is the most important.
“Then it’s a decision that the player and the club have to take.”
Conte was coy on any new incomings for Spurs before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
The Tottenham boss has held talks with chairman Daniel Levy and managing director Fabio Paritici to make his stance clear but says it will be “okay” if they do not add further.

Conte said: “I spoke with the club, with Paritici and Daniel Levy and told them my opinion.

Antonio Conte has no worries over Son Heung-min’s goalless form and is surprised by questions over South Korean star

ANTONIO CONTE has no worries over the form of Son Heung-min – and says it is a mark of how well things are going at Tottenham that any concerns are being raised at all.Son shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Liverpool’s Mo Salah last term after blasting 23 goals.

But the South Korean is yet to get off the mark this term and has been relatively quiet, for his sky-high standards, in Spurs’ opening three games of the season.
He hit the post against Wolves last Saturday but was taken off in the 76th minute for Richarlison.
Spurs won that game thanks to a Harry Kane header and have taken seven points from a possible nine so far going into Sunday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.
And Conte pointed to Kane as an example of how form is temporary and class is permanent, after the England captain went through a much-longer barren spell in the first half of last term.

The Tottenham boss said: “Sonny is enjoying his football every day.
“To think he is enjoying it more or less just because of one goal, it is ridiculous. We are trying to create a problem when the problem is not there.
“I’m seeing the same player that I knew in November when I arrived in Tottenham.
“A good guy who has a great commitment and a great attitude.
    Most read in Football
“But if we have seven points and you are complaining about Sonny and when he is good, I think we can do good things!
“For me, Sonny is playing a good game. He’s not scoring, but it can happen. It happened last season with Harry Kane. Now Harry has scored twice and we are happy.”
Son will hope to get off the mark at the City Ground and help maintain Spurs’ fine start to the campaign.

It is highly unlikely Conte would bench him, but one player who is hoping just to make it into the matchday squad is Djed Spence.
The £12.5million summer signing from Middlesbrough won promotion from the Championship on loan at Forest last term.
Yet he has not even been included in the 18 for the last two fixtures against Wolves and Chelsea.
Spence, 22, could return to the bench against Forest with Lucas Moura and Bryan Gil both injury doubts for the game. Cristian Romero and Oliver Skipp are both definitely out.
On England Under-21 starlet Spence, Conte added: “I was very clear at the start when I said this signing is a really good prospect, he’s a young player.
“This signing, the club wanted to invest in this player.
“The difference is clear. To play in the Championship with Nottingham Forest and then with Tottenham, he needs time to adapt himself in many aspects, in the physical aspect and the tactical aspect because now he is working with another coach.
“I’m seeing a lot of desire, a lot of will, from this player to try to reduce this gap and to be ready.
    Read More on The Sun
“With a young player, it’s important to have patience, to work and then to improve. I’m sure Djed for the future will be an important player for Tottenham.”

He was released by the Spanish side when his contract expired in June and has since failed to find another club.
However, he could now be set for a return to the Premier League.
According to L’Equipe, the right-back is expected to join Nottingham Forest in a free transfer.
He will sign a one-year deal with the option to extend for a further season.

Aurier, who made 77 Premier League appearances during his four-year spell with Tottenham, will become Forest’s 17th signing of the summer.

The Forest boss believes the Ivory Coast international will bring much needed experience to the squad.

Nottingham Forest are also in talks to sign sought-after midfielder Houssem Aouar from Lyon.
Club officials have already agreed personal terms with the Frenchman but they are yet to strike a deal with the Ligue 1 giants.
Cooper is also pushing to sign Neal Maupay from Prem rivals Brighton.
The striker has fallen down the pecking order at the Amex with Graham Potter favouring Danny Welbeck in the No.9 spot, so he is open to a move away.
However, Fulham and Everton are both prepared to hijack an offer. More
