Chelsea chief Hayes hopes more female coaches make their mark at the elite level of the women’s game

EMMA HAYES hopes to see more female managers at the highest levels of women’s football.And the Blues chief, who is four months away from marking ten years in charge of Chelsea, is relishing the challenge of Tottenham attempting to break into the WSL’s top three.

Hayes’s side, who are a point ahead of Arsenal at the summit, travel to Spurs for the first time this season.
The duel comes nine days on from Rehanne Skinner signing a new deal to stay as Tottenham’s head coach after impressing club chairman Daniel Levy.
It also follows Brighton boss Hope Powell marking her 100th game in charge of Albion.
This week Skinner, 42, reflected on Hayes’ work in transforming Chelsea into one of Europe’s most feared sides after they survived a relegation battle in 2013.

Back then Hayes was one of just two female gaffers in an eight-team Women’s Super League.
This in contrast to the the fifty-fifty split of men and women coaches in the division today.
Hayes, 45, said: “I’m proud we’ve got a number of coaches across the board – including Rehanne – who will take on the mantle and take the sport to a whole new level.
“It’s great for women in the game that top athletes can be exposed to more female coaches because traditionally they haven’t.

Eriksen, 30, has been in sensational form with the Bees since joining on a six-month deal in January, half a year on from suffering a cardiac arrest playing for Denmark at last summer’s Euros.
He is set to be a free agent in the summer and many Spurs supporters would love to see him return to the club where he spent seven seasons in the 2010s.
Conte won Serie A with Eriksen last season at Inter Milan so knows his strengths inside out.

“I enjoyed the time we spent together in Inter Milan, despite the first time he didn’t play regularly with me.
“But then when I understood what I wanted about him then he played. We won together a title, the league in Italy.

Eriksen joined Tottenham from Ajax in 2013 and went on to amass a total of 69 goals and 90 assists in 305 appearances.

REHANNE SKINNER has her sights on European action for Tottenham having committed to stay in the club’s managerial hotseat. And the Spurs chief has plans to tie more players down to fresh deals following new contracts for Ashleigh Neville and Kit Graham.

Skinner, 42, was speaking a week after signing a new deal to stay at Tottenham’s helm until 2024.
Like Antonio Conte, Skinner believes the club should fight to compete in the Champions League and with Europe’s elite given its stature.
And breaking Chelsea, Arsenal’s and Manchester City’s stranglehold on the WSL’s top three spots is on the Wales-born gaffer’s agenda for the next few seasons.
Skinner, who last week signed a deal to stay in charge, for two more years said: “When I came to the club, I was very clear I am only interested in looking up as a coach and as a manager.

“We should only be thinking about the Champions League.

TOTTENHAM are lining up a move for Torino duo Gleison Bremer and Wilfried Singo for a combined fee of £42million. Spurs’ Director of Football Fabio Paratici has extensive contacts in Italy after years working for Sampdoria and Juventus and he could be a key man in the deal.

Bremer is a 25-year-old centre-back and has grown into becoming one of Serie A’s top defenders this season.

Former Tottenham ace Jermaine Jenas agrees Kulusevski should have been sent off.
Jenas told BT Sport: “No, I think it’s a red card. I think he is attempting to use force, which comes under the ruling of violent conduct, he is trying to elbow Cucurella in his face.
“This is subjective to the referee and how he sees or reads it. The issue I had is I don’t know how he has not seen that as attempting to hurt somebody, which would come under the violent conduct rule, and be a straight red card.
“I think Tottenham got away with one and Kulusevski got away with one, which is unfortunate for Brighton.”

The Tottenham winger threw his elbow with excessive force at Brighton’s Marc Cucurella in the first half.
It does not matter whether Kulusevski connected or not – it was a clear act of violent conduct.
Referee Craig Pawson issued the Swede a yellow card and VAR did not think it was a clear and obvious error.
But Kulusevski had Cucurella to thank because he did not make a meal of the incident.

Tottenham ace Percival out for rest of season following injury on international duty with New Zealand

TOTTENHAM confirmed Ria Percival is set for a lengthy spell out of action following her serious knee injury during New Zealand’s clash with Australia. The Spurs midfield ace suffered the injury in the 15th minute of the Ferns’ 2-1 loss to the Matildas on Friday.

Percival, 32, was helped off the field by team-mates Katie Bowen and Ali Riley after dropping to the turf and clutching her knee.
New Zealand head coach Jitka Klimova confirmed Percival sustained anterior cruciate ligament damage.
A statement on Tottenham’s web site says the midfielder will begin rehabilitation and will miss the remainder of their games this term.
And her Spurs colleagues have been sending messages via social media to Percival who moved to the club from West Ham in 2019.

According to Sky Sports, the full-back is not expected to return before the end of the campaign, which poses as a significant blow for Spurs’ top-four hopes.
The 30-year-old had been revitalised under manager Antonio Conte and became a key figure in the Italian tactician’s defence.
However, it now looks like Conte will have to rely on Emerson Royal for the last seven matches of the season.
