Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, recently revealed the deal bringing the golf-loving Wales ace back to North London was “close, but complicated”.
Bookies have now even suspended bets on Bale to Spurs as the deal edges ever closer.
The news comes as a monster blow to Manchester United, who had hoped to sign him as a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho.
Instead, Bale looks Spurs-bound, with the two parties preferring a loan deal to a permanent, £18.5million move.

Barnett also revealed Tottenham was his client’s preferred destination.
He claimed: “Gareth still loves Spurs. It’s where he wants to be.”

Yet despite Real Madrid rumoured to be paying half of his £650,000-a-week wages, Daniel Levy and Co will still have to pay Bale more than any other player at the club.

Harry Kane is currently the club’s top-paid star on a whopping £200,000 a week.
But Bale will likely pocket at least £300,000 per week at Spurs, the club he left in 2013 for a then-world-record £86m.
In fact, if Madrid cover exactly 50 per cent of his wages, Tottenham will still have to pay £325,000 a week for the ex-Southampton star.

Incredibly, for a club chasing a top-four spot, just FIVE players at Spurs currently earn £100,000 a week or more.
As well as £200k Kane, Tanguy Ndombele earns £160,000 per week, ahead of Son Heung-min on £140,000.

Bale is now most-likely to see out his £600,000-a-week contract – despite having two years still to run on his current deal.
The golf-loving ex-Southampton star has recently made headlines for his antics on the bench at Madrid and allegedly refusing to play in the Champions League loss to Manchester City.
Despite claims from his agent, Jonathan Bartlett, that Bale is happy in Madrid, Townsend has claimed his former team-mate will secretly be wishing he was back at Spurs.
Townsend told talkSPORT: “I think if anything Bale wants to go back to Spurs.

“The memories of Spurs, his happiness… he was the main man, he was loved. He was at the top of his game.
“So, if anything I think it would work the other way.
“He would be like, ‘I wish I was at Spurs now and had the freedom to do whatever I want, to express myself and not worry about where I am now where I get scrutinised for playing golf.'”

Bale’s agent recently revealed the ex-Spurs man is staying put at the Bernabeu, despite becoming the latest star to be frozen out by Zidane.

Barnett told BBC Sport: “Gareth is fine. He has two years left on his contract.
“He likes living in Madrid and he is going nowhere.
“He is still as good as anyone else in the team. It’s up to [Real Madrid manager] Zinedine Zidane.
“Of course there’s been interest but there’s hardly a club in the world which can afford him.
“Gareth is one of the best players in the world… the best players in the world do not go out on loan.”
Townsend, meanwhile, is planning to enjoy a food-filled, albeit brief, summer break before heading back to Crystal Palace duty.

He joked: “Food is my Kryptonite. I’m so strict during the season.
“So when the season’s over I just eat anything around me and that’s why I need that week before we go back to get back into shape, eat clean and start working again.
“[I go] straight to McDonalds. Two McChicken sandwiches, two fries and two drinks.
“Just a takeaway drive-thru then eat it at home.”

The loved-up couple couldn’t get enough of each other, taking turns to cop a cheeky feel as they lay by the beach and even shared a kiss under the summer sun.
After getting all hot and bothered, the happy pair took a dip in the ocean to cool off, as they splashed around, seemingly without a care in the world.
It’s certainly a well-deserved break for the couple, who first started dating in 2016.
