Kane recalls ‘crazy’ moment Defoe pulled up in Range Rover for kickabout with Tottenham star and his pals when he was 11

HARRY KANE has revealed how Jermain Defoe once pulled up for a street kickabout with him and his school pals – and outlined his ambition to become the Premier League’s all-time top scorer.The Tottenham star and England captain took part in the latest episode of BT Sport’s What I Wore series and enjoyed a trip down memory lane.

And the 28-year-old striker, who was in Spurs’ academy at the time, revealed how he first crossed paths with Tottenham’s ex-fan favourite Defoe aged just 11 while playing football with his mates.
Kane said: “Defoe is one of my favourite strikers and I was fortunate enough to play with him as well.
“The story was that I was in the street where I lived in Chingford just playing football with about 15 of my mates and a black Range Rover pulled up and Jermain Defoe got out.
“It was crazy. I was in the academy at the time but only about 11 years old and he just got out and started playing with us for about 20 minutes.
“He signed a load of stuff, we were taking our trainers off and things like that and getting them signed, but it was amazing.
“It’s a story I’ll always remember. I remember talking to him about it and he remembered it. It was great for him to do that and hopefully I’ll be able to do the same.”
Kane continued: “You always have the dream in the back of your head about being a professional footballer.
“But at 11 years old you are just enjoying football and not thinking too much into the future.”

Kane has gone on to realise his dream of playing for both Tottenham and England.
He now has a staggering 199 in the top-flight as he closes the gap on Prem’s all-time top goalscorer – Alan Shearer with 260.
And Kane still believes he has plenty of time left to overtake the legendary former Newcastle and England star.
He said: “It’s there to be done. It’s definitely an aim to try and reach it.
“I feel like I’ve still got many more years of my career to go.
“Shearer was an incredible striker and No9 so to be close now is great and it’s definitely something I want to try and achieve.”
Unlike Shearer, Kane has chosen to wear the No10 shirt instead for his club – a choice inspired by a number of former icons.
Kane, who dons nine for his country, explained: “I feel like 10 for Spurs was just a bigger number. You had Robbie Keane, Glenn Hoddle, Teddy Sheringham – players like that.
“So I just felt like I wanted to be No10 playing for Tottenham and obviously No9 for England, I feel like is a bigger number for a striker. You’ve had some great No9s (for England).”
Despite his success in front of goal, Kane is yet to win a major trophy for Spurs – with the club famously coming close to the Premier League title in the 2015-16 season.
Despite falling short to an inspired Leicester, Kane claimed it was his best season so far.

He said: “This was the year we were going against Leicester for the league, obviously we fell short, but there were some nice goals in that one. I felt good.
“That was my second season, I felt ready to go and take the league by storm after having the season I had before. I think that was my first kit in No10 as well.” More

Speaking on talkSPORT back in 2021, he said: “I tell you who had a bit about him – Robbie Keane.
“I remember a story with him and Edgar Davids and I hope he don’t mind me saying this.
“We were at training and Edgar Davids came in from Inter Milan and he thought he was the bee’s knees.
“He thought he was the guy and the main man and everything, but everyone realised Robbie Keane was the main guy at Tottenham at that time.
“I remember him giving it to Keano in training and they were having a barney, and I think he tried to step to Robbie Keane and say something – and Keano just sparked him, bosh!
“He just went, bang – one punch. Gone.

“I’m allowed to give my interpretation of what happened in the game but I don’t know how to lie, and I don’t like lying… so I prefer not to say what I think.”

In today’s society where populism and fake news are more common than we would hope it is always important to look back at the facts.
But former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez may have given too much thought on facts in 2009 when talking about his Manchester United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is also never afraid to say what’s on his mind.
Conte is making a strong case for a top-four finish this season, especially after Spurs’ victory over rivals Arsenal, but his short stint in North London hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing.
The Italian underwent a poor run earlier in the campaign and felt so deflated he even questioned his ability to lead Tottenham.
Conte said after February’s loss to Burnley: “Maybe I’m not so good. Tottenham called me to improve the situation but I’m too honest.”

Kevin Keegan’s outburst is perhaps the most famous and popular managerial rant in Premier League history.
It was back in 1996 when legendary Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson claimed teams tried harder against his side than Keegan’s Newcastle.
The former England manager then came unglued, and we all loved it.

It was a miserable evening all-round for Mikel Arteta’s side, who are now just a point ahead of their rivals with two games of the Premier League season to go.
However, it was even more forgettable for defender Holding – even though he lasted just 33 minutes.
The 26-year-old was given the runaround by Son during the opening exchanges, leading to him receiving two yellow cards for fouls on the Spurs ace and subsequently his marching orders.
Arsenal icon Wright, watching on as a pundit for Premier League productions, revealed that he felt the centre-half was scared stiff by the South Korean’s speed.
