Furious Tottenham star Danny Rose branded team-mates ‘s***’ and accused Jose Mourinho of picking his favourites

TOTTENHAM sent Danny Rose to Newcastle after he branded team-mates “s**t” and accused Jose Mourinho of picking his favourites.
England left-back Rose joined the Toon on loan in January after being left out by new Spurs boss Mourinho.

The final straw for the 30-year-old came when he was axed again for the 0-0 draw at Watford on January 18.
Rose turned up at the club’s Enfield training HQ the following morning to have it out with his gaffer.
The meeting — shown in a new  episode of Amazon Prime Video’s hit new  documentary All Or Nothing:  Tottenham Hotspur — went like this . . .
Danny Rose: “Gaffer, I was just wondering what the problem is?”

Jose Mourinho: “What do you mean by that?”
DR: “You know exactly what I mean. How I’m being treated.
“You know I was very excited when you came in as manager but if you don’t want me to play I’d rather you just tell me now and I’ll stay at home gaffer and I’ll train at home.”
JM: “No but let me try to be as open as I can with you, because I think you deserve that.

“When I arrived, you played some matches, you were on the bench for other matches, I didn’t select you for other matches.
“And I think also this is not what a player wants because a player wants to feel the trust. But also it was not a gun and the player was playing more.
“Before Liverpool you were fantastic in training. That made me decide that in probably the most difficult game against the most difficult opponents you play. I think you didn’t play well.
“Then the next game against Middlesbrough, (Japhet) Tanganga played so well and did so strong defensively and does not make any mistakes because he is so fast and so powerful.
“I cannot say are you going to be first choice, are you going to play every match. It depends on you.”
DR: “OK, I respect what you’re saying about I didn’t play well against Liverpool, which is true. But I play once every four weeks.
“Do you want me to be Man of the Match and give my best performance when I play one game and then don’t play again for three or four weeks?  The defence has kept two clean sheets, they play every game. It’s not fair.”

    2

Rose accused boss Mourinho of showing favouritismCredit: Reuters
JM: “So who do you want me to play instead of them?”
DR: “No, you’re the manager. But you’re saying to me I was s**t against Liverpool.”
JM: “No no no no, not s**t.”
DR: “OK, I wasn’t good, it wasn’t my best game. You’re right and I respect what you say. But other people have been s**t in training, s**t in games but play every game and are in the squad every game. It’s not fair.”
    JM: “That is your perspective.”
DR: “It’s facts. The whole changing room know it’s facts. Not fair. And I’m going to see Daniel (chairman Daniel Levy) as well.”
JM: “I think you are an honest guy so you should.”

The documentary then shows Levy telling Mourinho that Rose wants to join a top club but the only ones willing to take him on loan are Newcastle and Bournemouth — and the defender does not want to go to the Cherries.
Rose moved to the Toon a few days later for the rest of the season.
He said later: “If I have a problem or am not happy about something, I have to be able to have an honest debate or conversation with somebody. He is a very straight talker, as am I.”
This is not the first time the out-spoken star has criticised team-mates.
Three years ago, he said he had to Google ex-boss Mauricio Pochettino’s signings to know who they were.
Rose admitted: “I can be a bit of a handful. There have been times I’ve said a few things in anger when we’ve lost. But it’s just how I’m programmed. I want to win.”
He added: “Obviously I do want to play every week, if possible.

“He’s the manager and you have to respect him because only 11 people can play and if a squad’s been assembled to have two very good players in each position, you have to realise you can’t play every game.
“So I think it’s just something you have to come to terms with when you get closer to your 30s.
“I’ve spent pretty much all my  professional career at this club and I just wish I was involved.
    “I fully believe I am Tottenham’s best left-back still — and I can’t watch centre-backs and right-footed centre-backs play in my position. It’s a slap in the face, basically.”
Rose’s Spurs  contract runs out at the end of the season.
He said: “Everybody has a price in football and sometimes when you get to a certain age, or have a certain amount of years on your contract, people within a football club will think it’s time to move somebody on, or get someone younger in.
“It’s a business. You have to try to not take that too personally.
“Moving to Newcastle was part of wanting to play and thinking the Euros were this summer. I’m thankful the club allowed me to.”

Harry Maguire plea to play for England against Iceland rejected by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate

GARETH SOUTHGATE has admitted he rejected a plea from Harry Maguire to reinstate him into the England squad for tonight’s Iceland clash.
The England boss axed the Manchester United skipper, 27, having initially called him up to face Iceland and Denmark in Nations League matches.

He was convicted of bribery, aggravated assault and resisting arrest while on holiday in Mykonos.
But after Maguire appealed against his conviction and a suspended jail sentence, he was free to play and asked Southgate to bring him back.
Southgate said: “We’ve talked right the way through, very openly and honestly and, of course, Harry would prefer to be here with the team.

“He wants to play football and he wants to be part of it.

“But I think with everything that’s gone on in his life in the last couple of weeks, it was so important that he’s been able to let everything just calm down and get some more time on holiday.
“He now has the chance to re-energise, get back to training with his club and then, all being well, he’ll be with us in October.”
England have matches with Wales, Belgium and Denmark next month.SunSport revealed yesterday that some of England’s coaching staff wanted Maguire back in the squad.

But FA chiefs were against the idea and the manager decided against a recall.

When questioned by talkSPORT over whether he regretted including Maguire in his original party, Southgate said: “No. Not at all. I felt it was important to support our player.
“I always knew that the timing of the case was potentially going to mean we would have to change something in a relatively short period.”

Watford captain Troy Deeney insists he can still cut it in Premier League after overcoming knee troubles

ONE socially distanced peek into the Harley Street performance clinic where Troy Deeney is completing pre-season training is enough to know he is back in business.
The frustrations of an injury-ravaged season, culminating in Watford’s relegation, are gone for the Hornets captain.

Now it is all about looking forward, wherever that journey may take him.
And he has no doubt that he still has the fitness and ability to cut it in the Premier League.
As he relaxed after a punishing four-hour workout, Deeney said: “I definitely still see myself as a Premier League striker.

“I scored double figures last season on one leg. Now I’m over my knee troubles. I’m back on two legs.

“I got ten in the league from 27 games, which was not a bad return. I know it includes penalties but Bruno Fernandes scores penalties as well at Man United.
“I’m not comparing myself to Fernandes but I’ve scored the opportunities presented to me.
“How many did Sebastien Haller get last year for West Ham? Six or seven. Or Joelinton for Newcastle? Two.
“Put it into context: these are £40million players and I only cost £300,000. My time’s not up.

Deeney believes he still has plenty left in the tank at the top levelCredit: Jamie McPhilimey – The Sun
“Physically or mentally, I wasn’t as fit as I needed to be last season but I learnt that I shouldn’t have pushed to play so many games and should have missed one to come back fitter for the next one.
“My character is ‘Get up and keep fighting’, unless I’ve been nailed to the ground.
“I missed over three months at the start of the season with the knee injury and I had a different knee problem at the end of the season.
“But it’s all cleared up now and I’m good to go. If we were playing tomorrow I’d be ready.”
Deeney is in something of a limbo state at Vicarage Road. He is training away from the main group, with new boss Vladimir Ivic having seemingly decided to work without him for the time being.
The striker said: “Me and Watford have had a ten-year relationship which has been successful not just for me but for the club as a whole.
“I’m a big boy and if they decide they want to move in a younger direction, that’s part of life.
“We’re at a T-junction for both of us. Do they want to get rid of me? I think they would look at me and realise I can get them back up again — and I would back myself to do that — but there are finances and all sorts to work into that.

    5

The Watford striker hit double figures in the Prem last seasonCredit: Reuters
“They haven’t given me a definitive ‘You can go’ but I’ve seen plenty in the papers saying they wouldn’t mind me going. Even if it’s for a year on loan.
“I’m a Watford player until I’m told otherwise. I’m not one who’s going to be putting in transfer requests, or bashing the door down.”
Deeney is clearly tantalised by the prospect of staying in the Premier League, having been linked with Spurs and West Brom and he is adamant there is plenty left in the tank.
He said: “I’m only 32 and in this day and age that’s nothing. We’re well past the days where you are over the hill at 30.
“But there is a stigma about it and when you look at England, the bulk of the squad is very young, vibrant and energetic.
“Yet look at someone like Glenn Murray, who’s just joined us. He’s still doing it at 36, nearly 37 and he’s had a proper good, long career at all levels.
“There’s room for everybody. All I want is a fair crack of the whip.
“I look at Glenn and at the likes of Ryan Giggs and Teddy Sheringham. I’m the sort who wants to play as long as I can and as long as I enjoy it.

    5

Troy Deeney’s future at Vicarage Road has been left in limbo this summerCredit: Jamie McPhilimey – The Sun
“I’m different to someone like Jamie Vardy, who is a lot quicker than me but if he loses a yard he loses a large part of his game — whereas I never had the yard in the first place.
“Sheringham didn’t either and played into his 40s. It was all in the mind, knowing where to be at the right time without needing the pace.
Deeney never came through a club academy system. He was plucked from non-league, where he was just playing the game for fun with his mates. He still believes enjoyment is integral to being successful in the game.
The hitman said: “People have always said to me, since I was 19 or 20, to enjoy every minute of it because the second it’s gone, you can’t get it back.
“I still enjoyed last season, even though we went down. It was pressure but why wouldn’t you enjoy pressure?
“Relegation has happened to plenty of players who were bigger names than me.
“I remember Leeds going down when I was young and they had Mark Viduka, James Milner and Alan Smith in the team.
“It’s a bit of a stain but if you’ve had a carpet in your house for a long time, there’s going to be a few stains on it as well. It happens. Every team that gets relegated has a big-name player.
“If that’s the only stain on my football career, I’m happy with that.
“I genuinely thought, until the last day, that we’d stay up but West Ham was probably the big game.

“A draw or a win there and we would have done it.
“I’m very relaxed about things. There are plenty of doubters and critics who think I hold back the club and other players — but if I stay, I’ll prove them wrong.
“Mind you, if I do stay and score 25 goals in the Championship, they’ll probably just say ‘You did that before’. You can’t win.”

Manchester City legend Yaya Toure offered to hire sex workers for Soccer Aid team ahead of UNICEF charity match

FOOTBALL ace Yaya Toure has been axed from this weekend’s Soccer Aid after offering to hire sex workers for his team-mates.
Married dad Toure, 37, boasted he could bring 19 girls to the side’s five-star hotel in Cheshire.

He also posted a pornographic video showing a naked woman in a bath in the group WhatsApp chat.
It sparked a string of complaints from his appalled team-mates, who included several female players as well as celebrities.
They called on Soccer Aid and ITV bosses to axe Toure from the game, held annually in support of children’s charity Unicef.
Toure, who has three children with wife Gina, deleted the messages and issued an apology but today got the boot from Sunday’s game.

An insider said: “Everyone at Soccer Aid was disgusted by Yaya’s messages.
“There is a WhatsApp group for his team, the World XI, and everyone had been chatting in it.
    ‘ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL’
“Without being prompted, Yaya posted a video of a naked woman in a bath.
“She was acting in a lewd manner and it was highly inappropriate.

“He went on to say he could get 19 women like the one in the video to come to the hotel to the pleasure of those playing the match.
“It was absolutely disgraceful and caused a huge amount of distress to some of the people who received the messages.
“Soccer Aid is a charity game and is raising money for children.
“So to have one of the players, especially one who is supposed to be a professional, making such lewd and gross suggestions is despicable.”

Midfielder Yaya, who left Manchester City in 2018, sent the X-rated messages on Thursday night.
The WhatsApp group was made up of his team-mates from his World XI side — including ex-Man United star Patrice Evra and female players Julie Fleeting, Lianne Sanderson and Chelcee Grimes.
Players and coaches from their England XI opponents were also in the group, including Wes Brown.
A string of complaints were then made to Soccer Aid and ITV, which is broadcasting the match live.
Goalkeeper David James were also said to be furious.
The insider added: “The messages turned the stomachs of the women, along with the men.
“The atmosphere among both teams had been so good and spirits were high. These messages have really soured the mood.
“Julie, Lianne and Chelcee and David James all made their feelings clear about how wrong they thought his messages were. They called for Toure to be taken off the team.”
After bosses at Unicef and ITV were notified of the content, Yaya was told to delete them.
He was then forced to apologise to everyone who received the messages and was warned his place in the squad was in jeopardy.
However, feelings were running high during breakfast at the hotel this morning, with many feeling he should get the boot.
    ‘AN APOLOGY WON’T CUT IT’
A source explained: “Within a few minutes his messages had been deleted and Yaya got a mouthful from the bosses.
“He repeatedly apologised to them and also said he was sincerely sorry for what he had posted to those in the group.

“Not everyone was impressed however and it’s hard to move on from. This wasn’t just banter.
“To many it felt misogynistic and wrong — and an apology just won’t cut it.
“At breakfast on Friday morning it was all anyone could talk about.
“There was no laughter and no one thought it was funny in the slightest.
“Everyone signed up to Soccer Aid is there with one goal — to raise money for Unicef. This has cast a shadow over the event.”
Toure was then told this afternoon it was the right thing for him “to step back”.

This wasn’t just banter. To many it felt misogynistic and wrong.

A spokesman for Soccer Aid last night told The Sun: “Inappropriate content was shared in a private group text. The message was quickly deleted and a full apology was made to all.
“Soccer Aid for Unicef has discussed the above with the individual involved and he has decided to no longer continue to participate in this year’s event.
“While it was an error of judgment, it was felt that the behaviour didn’t align with the values of the event and its cause, and it was the right thing for him to step back from this year’s match.”
A second insider working on the charity match, which is in its 14th year, insisted that Yaya’s boasts would never have come to fruition — because of Covid-19.
They said: “There are strict social distancing rules in place at the hotel the teams are staying at so Yaya’s suggestion to his team-mates could never have come to pass.
“The hotel is blocked off solely for the teams and all those working on the game and there are rules in place. People cannot just come and go.
“Yaya acted incredibly foolishly and is now paying the price for his stupidity.”
This year’s match will be played behind closed doors for the first time in its history due to Covid-19 restrictions.

    £38m winner

    By Daniel Hammond

SOCCER Aid has so far raised more than £38million for Unicef UK.
The idea of footballers and celebs taking on each other in an 11-a-side game was initiated by Robbie Williams and mate Jonathan Wilkes in 2006.
It was held every two years until 2018 when it switched to annually.
The England team leads the head-to-head with five wins to three.
From last June, female stars were included in the two squads.
This year, for the first time in the match’s history the Government and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, will both match public donations, meaning every £1 donated becomes £3 – up to £3million – until October 6.
Unicef provides humanitarian and developmental aid to children around the world.

The star-studded England squad includes Olly Murs, 36, Mark Wright, 33, and Paddy McGuinness, 47. Last year’s game raised more than £6.7million for Unicef.
Funds raised this year will go to helping children battle coronavirus around the world.
Like their Premier League counterparts, the Soccer Aid players will take the knee as a mark of respect to the Black Lives Matter movement before kick-off at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho knew Spurs were ‘f***ed’ when discovering Harry Kane’s injury KO with moment caught in All Or Nothing doc

JOSE MOURINHO knew Tottenham’s top-four bid was doomed the moment he discovered Harry Kane’s injury in January was serious.
When the Spurs boss was told his star striker could be out for three months with a ruptured hamstring his response was: “We’re f***ed!”

    1

Mourinho could not hide his frustration when he learned the extent of Kane’s injuryCredit: PA:Press Association
Mourinho’s brutal prognosis is revealed in an episode of the Amazon Prime Video fly-on-the-ball documentary of the North Londoner’ last season.
It shows the club waiting for the results of a scan on Kane’s left hamstring after he injured it in the 1-0 defeat at Southampton on New Year’s Day.
Mourinho – who SunSport told you is set to say goodbye to Tanguy Ndombele – later receives the bad news from Tottenham’s head medic Geoff Scott that the injury is serious and the England captain could be sidelined for three months.
The Special One then rushes over to inform one of his coaching staff, telling him in Portuguese: “Three months minimum….minimum. Three months if he doesn’t have surgery.

    “Three months out. We’re f***ed.”
Kane underwent surgery on a ruptured tendon in his hamstring and did not return to action until the season restarted in June following the Covid suspension.

The frontman’s presence rallied Tottenham and helped them salvage a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League and Europa League qualification.
But Mourinho’s astonishing reaction to Kane’s injury shows just how important he is to Spurs and their manager.

They have always denied the claims they are a one-man team – but this suggests otherwise.

Spurs’ All Or Nothing doc shows heartbreaking moment devastated Jose Mourinho tells squad his dog died on Christmas Eve

JOSE MOURINHO was left reeling by the death of his pet pooch on Christmas Eve.

He said: “I think the majority of you know and some of you may think I am just an idiot but the reality is, I’m dead because my dog died. My dog died and I’m f*****. Deeply f******.
“I want you to know that because I don’t want you to think I am upset with you or I’m less confident so I am less happy. That has nothing to do with you at all.”
When Harry Kane asks what type of dog it was, Mourinho replies: “A Yorkshire terrier. A little one. For 13 years he traveled everywhere. And he f****** dies on the 24th of December.”
But it did not stop Mourinho from giving a stirring dressing-room speech ahead of his team’s 2-1 win over Brighton on Boxing Day.

He said: “For me it’s very very simple. For me, the most important thing not in football but in life is courage, honesty, good feelings, friendship.
“That’s the most important thing in life and in football.
“We lost a game, we have a game to play and we have to go with balls, with courage, good feelings, being positive, being friends, being family.”

The documentary offered some wonderful insights into the Spurs stars’ festive season, such as Ryan Sessegnon buying his mum an expensive Louis Vuitton handbag and purse, while wishing the squad did a secret Santa.

Toby Alderweireld complained about having to work at Christmas, adding: “People say if you are a football player, you are famous, you have money but the nicest thing in life you can’t pay for it, believe me.
“And that is to see family at Christmas, go out for a drink and just enjoy it, you know.”

Lewis Hamilton reveals he dreamed of driving a Williams in tribute to Sir Frank and daughter Claire ahead of F1 exit

THE CHEQUERED flag will fall on one of the greatest family-run businesses in sport this Sunday in Monza.
And sad goodbyes  said to “the most respected and honest” man in Formula One.

The Italian Grand Prix marks the final time  the Williams family will oversee their F1 team since its  formation in 1977.
Both Sir Frank Williams — who has been in motorsport for an incredible 54 years — and daughter Claire, who has run the team since 2013, are stepping aside after selling up to US investment firm Dorilton Capital.
The pair leave behind an incredible legacy, one not lost on Britain’s six-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
The Mercedes superstar declared: “I’m a big fan of Sir Frank and his incredible contribution to the sport.

“He was always so positive to me as one of the people I respected most, and was one of the most, if not the most, honest people in Formula One. So, definitely, it is sad to see the end of a chapter.
“But the legacy will continue as the team will keep the Williams name.

The ten greatest F1 drivers of all-time – according to SunSport’s motorsport correspondent Ben Hunt
“I was hopeful at some stage they were going to return to the front of the grid.
“I remember dreaming of driving the car Nigel Mansell had but it never turned into an option  and that’s when I moved to Mercedes.”

Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas started his F1 career with Williams.
He said: “I’m really sad. Without Williams,  especially Frank, I wouldn’t be here.”
Williams was THE name in F1 in the 1980s and 90s, with their drivers  winning seven world championships and the team nine constructors’ titles.
Sir Frank, 78, started Frank Williams Racing Cars in 1969, running a custom Brabham chassis.
But the team’s F1 roots started in 1977 with the formation of Williams Grand Prix Engineering with Sir Patrick Head, operating out of an old warehouse in Oxfordshire that had previously been used for making carpets.

The team won their first race in 1979 and fittingly it was the British GP won by Clay Regazzoni, while Alan Jones took the drivers’ title the following year.
Despite being left as a  tetraplegic as a result of a car crash in 1985,  Williams continued to run the team, amassing a total of 114 wins, 128 pole positions, nine constructors’ titles and seven  drivers’ championships.
Jacques Villeneuve’s crown in 1997 was their last, while Pastor Maldonado’s shock-win in the 2012 Spanish GP was their last GP victory — a subsequent fire in the garage put pay to Sir Frank’s speech to the team.
Stars such as Ayrton Senna, Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost and Nelson Piquet have all driven for the famous team.
And in a technical capacity, legendary designers, Head, Adrian Newey and Paddy Lowe have also held posts at Williams.
But there have also been considerable lows and one that overshadowed the team’s on-track success.

Frank never spoke to anyone about it. But you can see the pain in his eyes every time he thinks about the accident.
Claire Williams on Frank’s feelings after Ayrton Senna’s death

That was the death of Senna at Imola in 1994, which saw Williams charged with manslaughter in Italy.
Sir Frank was later acquitted but the pain of losing the Brazilian at the  relatively young age of 34  had a huge and lasting impact.
In an interview last year to mark the 25th anniversary of Senna’s death, Claire Williams revealed: “Frank never spoke to anyone about it.
“That isn’t his personality. He isn’t one for therapy or having long conversations. He  keeps it all in.
“That is how he has been brought up but you can see the pain in his  eyes every time he thinks about the accident.”

Under his daughter’s leadership, the team started off with strong finishes in 2014 and 2015 but they have since slumped to the back of the grid.
Unable to match their rivals for spending, the team posted a £13million loss in 2019, forcing them to seek an strategic review and ultimately the sale to Dorilton and safeguarding the team’s future — plus around 600 jobs.
Matthew Savage, the chairman of  Dorilton Capital and Williams Grand Prix Engineering, said: “We are proud to carry the Williams name into the next exciting phase for the sport.”
