James Rodriguez has one of ‘best left feet ever’ and Everton move under Ancelotti is perfect fit, claims Berbatov

JAMES RODRIGUEZ has one of the best left feet EVER — and that comes from a man who was team-mates with Ryan Giggs and Gareth Bale.
Dimitar Berbatov played with the new Everton star at Monaco in 2014 and saw first-hand the Colombian at the peak of his powers.

The ex-Manchester United striker was stunned by Rodriguez’s ability during their six months together at the French giants.
His scintillating form saw him earn a £63million switch to Real Madrid after a stunning World Cup where he won the Golden Boot.
Six years on and Rodriguez’s once feared reputation has diminished. But Berba believes his move to Everton — who finished last season in 12th — could rekindle a fizzling career because of his relationship with Carlo Ancelotti.

Former Tottenham ace Berbatov said: “His left foot is magic, one of the best left feet ever, honestly.
“I wasn’t surprised he went to Everton. Sometimes you need to take one step back to step forward.
“He didn’t play much at Real Madrid and he now needs a place to go where he will know that he is going to be a starter.
“It can bring his confidence back. It was the same situation that I was in, in my last year with United.

“I didn’t play as much as I wanted, so I wanted to go somewhere else, to Fulham with Martin Jol.

    7

“I knew the team were going to start me. I needed to bring my confidence back.
“He’s going to Ancelotti and he worked with him at another three clubs. They have a connection. For him that will hopefully will be a great move.
“The moment you know the manager is going to trust you, it doesn’t matter if you make a mistake.
“You’re going to bring everything you have and you’re going to succeed.”
Rodriguez, 29, was touted as one of the best players in the world after his six-goal heroics in Brazil.
And Berbatov, a Betfair Ambassador, reckons a £22m move to Everton can help bring back the confidence that made him a global superstar.

He added: “Players are always going to have that confidence but if you don’t play for so long, you start questioning yourself. ‘Am I good enough? Why am I not playing?’.
“This can be a really bad thing for you. The more you step on to the pitch again, the more you start playing better.
“I would like to see him get back to his World Cup form but let’s not forget football is not an individual sport. He’s got another ten players on the pitch with him — every player depends on the players around them.
“He has that magic left foot that he can be the difference when the team needs him. He is coming from a different league and hopefully he can find it easy to adjust.
“The Premier League is demanding but when you know that you have the complete trust of the manager, you’re going to be free to play.
“I think he has got the attributes to flourish in the league but it might take him one, two, three games to get used to the rhythm.
“I think that he can be OK. I’m going to enjoy how he plays.”

    7

Berbatov has also revealed his love for Amazon’s new Tottenham documentary — and wants United to follow suit.
He added: “United have to do one, for sure. They need to have a deal like this sooner or later — it would be great for people to watch.
“For fans of when I was there, to watch Ronaldo, Rooney, Giggsy, Scholes training and talking with each other, the winning and losing . . . That’s great TV.
“And in Leverkusen, when we lost the three finals, it would be great TV.
“We had crisis meetings, fighting, good times, bad times, losing the three finals . . . that would be great TV to watch for the drama.”

Mason Greenwood backed to handle pressure of Man Utd No11 shirt by its legendary former owner Ryan Giggs

RYAN GIGGS believes Mason Greenwood can handle the pressure of taking on his famous No 11 shirt — because he is so good he can score twice a game.
Greenwood has been handed the number worn for two decades by Manchester United legend Giggs on the eve of a season where he is expected to dazzle.

His off-field behaviour was called into question after he was sent home in disgrace from England duty last week.
But Giggs laughed off fears the  pressure of wearing his old shirt could weigh the 18-year-old down.
The Wales boss said: “He’s nearly already scored more goals than I did, so there’s no pressure in that respect. But no, I don’t think he’ll feel the pressure of the number.
“He’s a brilliant player, who I don’t think he even looks like scoring every game — I think he’s going to score two every game, he’s  that much of a threat.

“He’s been playing off the right — eventually, I think he will go as a centre-forward.
“But he needs to go again. Opposition will be aware of him and they’ll be trying to stop him.
“He’s got to find a way to keep improving, which I’m sure he will do because he’s very hard to stop — left or right foot, his movement’s good.
“And he’s in an attacking team with the likes of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, who can find him.”

Greenwood’s fellow England Covidiot Phil Foden also has something to prove after his antics in Iceland.
And Giggs said the 20-year-old’s biggest test is yet to come at Manchester City — proving he is good enough to be trusted by Pep Guardiola every week.
Giggs said: “David Silva would be a miss for any team but it’s a chance for the likes of Phil Foden, who’s had a taste of it and has shown his quality.
“He’s a talent, everyone can see that. It’s now about when he gets his chance he has to take it and stay in the team. The easy bit is getting in it.”
Speaking as he relaunched McDonald’s Fun Football programme, Giggs added: “Liverpool start the season as favourites, purely because of what they’ve done the last couple of years.
“It’s up to the rest to step up. City will, I’m sure United will and Chelsea have been really decisive in the transfer market.
“So I expect them to get closer to Liverpool.”

    3

Giggs admits all of his Wales players are eager to face England next monthCredit: McDonalds
Giggs faces a selection dilemma next month . . . because  all his Wales stars WANT to take on England.
The Dragons play their old rivals at Wembley in a friendly on October 8 ahead of two  Nations League games.
But, after two opening wins in Group B4 and clashes with Republic of Ireland and  Bulgaria to come as part of an international triple-header, Giggs has a juggling act ahead.
His squad from experienced stars Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey to one-cap duo Dylan Levitt and Ben Cabango will all be desperate to  test themselves against the Three Lions.
The Wales boss said: “Wales against England in football, rugby, or whatever, is huge. And every player will want to be part of that.
“So it’s up to me to get the team selection right because then after that, we’ve got two tough away Nations League games and  we’re top of the group and  want to stay there.
“But the lads  all want to be involved in the England game.
“Luckily, I have a few more substitutions. So that will help me in that regard.

“It’s a huge test for us because England are a top team. The players they can draw upon, they’re playing Champions League regularly and are top players, and they prove that.
“So it’s a real big test for us and it’s one we have to have to rise to at Wembley. But we’re a good team as well and we’ve got everyone available, so we’ll give England a good test.
“All the players will know each other and that is not always the case in international football.
“We experienced that a couple years ago when we played the Republic of Ireland and it’s always tough because you know the players so well, and it’s always tight.
“And it means so much to the players and the fans and the country as a whole when we do play the likes of England, so it’ll be an emotional game, but one that obviously we need to use our emotions in the right way.”
Giggs is delighted with the way his side came through the international break with  victories over Finland and  Bulgaria, even though the standard of football was not the highest.
It was a nightmare programme for all international managers with their squads at differing stages of pre-season.
And next opponents England struggled more than most with unconvincing displays against Iceland, winning 1-0 with a late penalty,  and a goalless draw with Denmark.
But speaking to relaunch the McDonald’s Fun Football programme following lockdown, Giggs is sure the October round of matches will be a far better standard.
He added: “I’ve got sympathy for Gareth because I experienced it where there’s a lot of players who haven’t played who have had a quick turn-around.

“They had played a long season last year, going on  after the lockdown, and then only  having a two-week turnaround.
“Some had been on holiday and only had a couple of days training.
“So it was really hard to sort of play flowing football and have that cohesion which you’d  normally get.
“With international teams it is always difficult, but it was even more difficult this time because of the circumstances.
“It wasn’t easy, especially with the only three substitutions so credit to the lads who, you know, played two 90 minutes and performed so well and really dug out results.
“It was like a pre-season really for a lot of the lads, and the two teams that we played, their season had started and they were four or five games in.
“So I was delighted it was a really good camp and obviously I was able to give a few debuts as well and give experience to a few of the good the younger players we’ve got coming through.
“Some had played a couple of practice games, some had played nothing at all.
“Gareth Bale had trained two training sessions, that was it. So we were a bit all over the place regarding that.
“So it was a lot of work juggling the two teams, then trying to pick two teams really.”
Wales manager Ryan Giggs was relaunching McDonald’s Fun Football  programme, which offers fun, free and safe football sessions for children age 5-11.

FIFA threatens non-profit walking football group with legal action over ‘similar’ name

FIFA has threatened a walking football group with legal action over its “similar” name.
The world football governing body wants The Federation of International Walking Football Associations to choose another to avoid “consumer confusion”.

In a letter, it is demanding non-profit FIWFA also renames its planned “World Cup” in Manchester next year in case it “jeopardises Fifa’s ability to organise future Fifa World Cups”.
FIWFA chiefs were stunned at the requests and accompanying legal threats.
They launched in 2018 for people in their 50s, 60s and 70s — many of them recovering from illness.
Their game is non-contact with no running or offside.

There are 60,000 or so players in England and 53 countries play the game.
FIWFA chief exec Paul Carr, 65, who plays for Wigan Walkers, said: “The bullying nature of Fifa’s letter was staggering.
“We’ve no intention to be like Fifa and we’ve never experienced any confusion.
“I don’t expect fans to be flying in expecting to see Ronaldo and Messi at our next event. We’re not wealthy like Fifa yet we’re in a position where we have to fight this or fold to it.”

Fifa’s letter adds that the similar names means “there is a risk that the value of sponsorship is undermined.”
    It has hired UK lawyers.
A spokesperson said: “Like any trademark owner, Fifa is following standard procedures that are key to protect its brands.

Paul Pogba trademarks iconic dab celebration as Man Utd star aims to launch lifestyle brand

PAUL POGBA has trademarked his famous dab goal celebration — paving the way for the launch of his lifestyle brand.
The Manchester United midfielder, 27, has registered his name and dab celebration in eight different categories covering scores of items such as jewellery, watches, clothing, wallets, perfumes and grooming products.

    1

His distinctive pose, made famous by the star forming two right-angled triangles, was even used in maths question in French schools.
Pogba has now filed documents with the Government’s Intellectual Property Office so he can use ‘Pogba dab’ designs on merchandise.
The French World Cup-winning midfielder, who cost a club-record £89million, is not the first Old Trafford star to trademark their moniker.
Marcus Rashford has protected his name so it cannot be used by  anyone else to flog clothes, games or books and digital media.

Pal Jesse Lingard has his own JLingz clothing firm and trademarks over his nickname.
Jonty Warner, a senior associate with Bird and Bird’s Intellectual Property Department in London, said: “First, it bolsters their ability to take action against third  parties who may be using the relevant names in the course of trade without consent.
“It also improves their ability to enter into agreements to commercialise their personal brand.
“By way of example, they may wish to licence the trademarks to  partners and earn royalties that way.”

Meanwhile, Pogba could still miss Man Utd’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on September 19 following his coronavirus scare.
Pogba missed training sessions because he and his wife tested positive for Covid-19, and his fitness is lagging behind as he had to self-isolate
Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told MUTV: “Paul’s had a couple of training sessions, so he’s lost out on a few sessions because of the virus, of course.
“But Paul is quick to get fit…. hopefully, he’ll be ready for next weekend. I am not 100 per cent sure, though.”

Mason Greenwood’s Icelandic beauty tells of ‘heated’ romp with star after he scoffed bag of jelly babies

AN Icelandic beauty queen has told how she got “heated” with shamed football star Mason Greenwood — after he scoffed a bag of jelly babies.
Nadia Gunnarsdottir, 20, said the pair “connected” on a dating app and the Manchester United striker, 18, met with her the day after making his England debut in Reykjavik.

    12

Nadia Gunnarsdottir has lifted the lid on her ‘heated’ night with Mason Greenwood

    12

Nadia and her cousin met Phil Foden and Greenwood at a hotel in Reykjavík

    12

Foden (pictured) and Greenwood evaded England’s hotel security to meet the girls

Greenwood was sent home in disgrace last week with team-mate Phil Foden — after the pair evaded England’s hotel security to meet Nadia and her cousin Lara Clausen.
Nadia told how she and “shy” Mason ended up in one room at the Radisson Blu Saga hotel — while Manchester City’s Foden, 20, and Lara, 19 romped next door.
Nadia, a 5ft 9in Miss Universe Iceland finalist last year, revealed: “Mason kissed me and things got pretty heated.
“He was certainly not as shy physically as he was socially.

“Yes, things happened. But I don’t want to go into detail.
“He was athletic and fit. I liked the fact he was taller than me.”
The next morning Nadia and Lara were woken by England security staff hammering on their hotel door and looking for the players.
Detailing Greenwood and Foden’s night of shame for the first time, Nadia told how the rising stars asked Lara to bring sweets to the hotel including fruit-flavoured jellies.

Mason kissed me and things got pretty heated.
    Nadia Gunnarsdottir

And she told how hotel staff told them two other girls had been thrown out for trying to meet players the night before their liaison.
Nadia did not know who Greenwood was when he contacted her on the app on Saturday September 5 — the day he made his England debut as a 78th minute sub in the 1-0 Nations League win over Iceland.
She googled him and — after they “liked” each other Greenwood sent her a message at 9.20pm, following the 5pm kick-off.
The pair chatted online the next day and Greenwood told Nadia it was his last night in Iceland.
He explained he could not leave the team hotel — where England booked out the entire third floor — due to security.

But he asked Nadia to travel to the Radisson, book herself in — and said he could sneak out to meet her.
Nadia made the reservation online and make-up artist Lara dropped her off around midnight.
Nadia told Greenwood she had booked into Room 702 and was surprised when he turned up with his team-mate in tow.
Winger Foden has a one-year-old child with Rebecca Cooke, but it is unclear if they are a couple.
Nadia said: “I had googled Mason and checked his Instagram so knew who he was and that he played for United and had played against Iceland for England.
“I said I would come and booked a room and then he showed up with Phil, and I didn’t know who he was.
“Mason said, ‘Do you have a friend?’ I said, ‘Yeah the one who dropped me off.’”
She phoned Lara and invited her to the hotel. Then the players asked if Lara could bring some sweets.
She returned with Sour Patch Kids sweets and Icelandic Vegan Tritlar fruit-flavoured jellies.
Nadia explained: “Lara was in a shopping centre so got them the candy they asked for.
“We all chilled together. Mason ate virtually the whole packet of Tritlar and Phil had some too.
“We all got along and were in my room just chatting, laughing and joking. Phil was open and outgoing but Mason was quite shy.
“They were telling us they thought Iceland was boring, and asking if there was much to do.

The Icelandic beauty queen said she and ‘shy’ Mason ended up in one room at the Radisson Blu Saga hotel

    12

Meanwhile Foden and Lara romped next door
“At one point Phil recorded us on his phone like a TV interviewer, and said, ‘So what’s it like living in Iceland?’”
Nadia told how the players had dodged security on their floor.
She said: “They told me there was a female guard on their floor who was eyeballing them as they left. But they didn’t seem worried.
“She didn’t follow them but may have spoken to hotel staff.
“We did not know they were in quarantine and they did not mention coronavirus or ask us if we had been tested.
“Also, not once did Phil mention a baby or girl. But he was the same age as us, so we didn’t think anything of it.”
Lara told today how she slept with Foden after he asked to go to Room 700, which she had booked. She said he then suddenly kissed her and added: “He left my bedroom very happy.”

We did not know they were in quarantine and they did not mention coronavirus or ask us if we had been tested.
    Nadia Gunnarsdottir

Nadia said: “We could hear them laughing and having fun next door.
“Mason tried to call Phil and he didn’t pick up so Mason went into their room.
“He took some videos of them, including of Phil kissing Lara on the cheek and holding hands.
“Mason also had a video of Lara in her underwear.”
A scandal erupted after Lara posted a Snapchat picture of Foden, with his backside exposed and an Instagram video was leaked.
Nadia said: “They didn’t tell us not to take pictures or video but I didn’t, and I didn’t leak anything.”

    12

Nadia says the players left to return to their floor at 3am

    12

At 3am, the players left to return to their floor — with Foden kissing both girls goodbye and asking Lara to stay in touch.
But Nadia explained: “Mason just said ‘bye’ and didn’t say much else or give me a kiss goodbye. I thought, ‘Damn that’s a bit rude’.”
    ‘SECURITY STORMED THE ROOM’
The cousins then left the hotel to get food. When they returned a staff member in the lobby told them there had been complaints.
Nadia said: “I don’t know why there had been complaints, we weren’t loud or anything.
“She then asked if we had been there on the Saturday night and told us two girls had been ejected from the hotel. She thought we were the girls, but we weren’t.
“It sounded like other girls had tried to meet England players.”
Nadia and Lara went back to a room and were woken at 6am.
The female guard the players had dodged, the team’s Head of Security and a Covid officer were at the door.
Nadia said: “The man and woman stormed into the room and asked where the boys were. They were even looking in the closets.”
Later news emerged that furious England boss Gareth Southgate had sent the players home, branding them “naive”.
The pair — who missed England’s 0-0 draw in Denmark on Tuesday — have since apologised.
They have been rapped by their clubs and fined £1,360 for breaching strict Covid regulations in Iceland.
Nadia said: “Yes, of course they were irresponsible. But I guess it was also irresponsible of us to go and meet people from another country.

“I feel sorry for them — I feel bad for everything that has happened. But their careers are just starting and are not ruined.”
Speaking on BT Sport, pundit and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, 41, said: “What 18-year-old isn’t going to make a mistake, it’s just they are in the spotlight.
“But importantly now, acknowledge the mistake you have made, hold your hands up yes, and now it’s about moving on and moving forward.”

Mason Greenwood in fresh blow as he’s filmed inhaling hippy crack weeks before England debut shame

ENGLAND’S Mason Greenwood is caught on camera inhaling hippy crack.
The Man United ace, 18, was seen filling a balloon with nitrous oxide from a canister as he partied with a female pal.

Greenwood last night admitted poor judgment and said he’d been made aware of the health risks.
It comes after he was sent home on his debut for romping with a girl in the England team hotel in Iceland.
A source said Greenwood inhaled the gas in a Manchester apartment a few weeks ago, with the film put on Snapchat.
It shows the striker in beanie hat, T-shirt and shorts on a chair with the balloon at his lips as he inhales. A female pal in ripped jeans is seen next to him.

Two Smartwhip whipped-cream chargers — packed with large amounts of gas — are on a table.
Inhaling nitrous oxide comes at the risk of heart attacks and brain damage, while prolonged use can lead to memory loss and vitamin deficiency.
    HARD LESSONS
A source who handed us the video said: “Mason often goes to the apartment after nights out and likes to have a good time.
“But he should know better given he’s a top sportsman.

“He has been a bit silly doing it, and especially allowing it to be videoed.
“A lot of people around Manchester are doing it at parties — quite a lot are Mason’s age.

“The canister looks like a really big one where you’d get much more laughing gas in one hit. You can get as many as 20 hits in one go.
“This was Mason and his friend getting together and having what they thought was a laugh.
“But he has learned a few hard lessons recently and this could be another one.”
Tonight in a statement issued through Man United, the youngster said: “I have now been made aware of the health risks associated with this practice — and accept that even trying it, as shown in these historical pictures, was poor judgment on my part.
“I strongly urge others not to follow my example.
“As an 18 year old I am learning all the time. However this week I’ve also learned that I will be judged to a higher standard because of my career, and I must respect that in future.
“I am determined to repay the faith shown in me by my manager and coaches.”
Greenwood follows a string of footballers who have been caught up in hippy crack scandals.
In 2018 The Sun revealed Arsenal footballers passed out inhaling the substance from balloons in a West End club.

And Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish was caught in 2016.
It is a criminal offence to supply nitrous oxide to get high but not to possess it. It is not banned as it has medical uses.

I am determined to repay the faith shown in me by my manager and coaches.
    Mason Greenwood

Drug advice website Frank says: “If you take too much you risk falling unconscious and/or suffocating from the lack of oxygen.
“It can be hard to judge the amount to use safely.”
Smartwhip chargers power the whipped-cream dispensers for cakes, drinks and desserts.
The firm says its chargers are designed to have larger amounts of nitrous oxide “for a time-saving refill process”.
Canisters like those seen in Greenwood’s apartment were today selling on eBay for £43.
Revellers snapping them up have caused industry shortages.
Chris Palmers, of catering supplier Carrick whose clients include TV shows Bake Off and MasterChef, is working with police to identify rogue buyers.
He said: “I got into this business so coffee shops could put whipped cream on their hot chocolate.
“Now they are using nitrous oxide bottles at raves and parties and they leave them scattered everywhere. It’s a huge problem for my industry.”
Balloons filled with nitrous oxide from smaller canisters can be bought for £2, often online.

The substance has been linked to at least 25 deaths since 2010, with MPs calling for limits on its use.
Greenwood has also been blasted this week for allegedly holding rowdy lockdown parties at a separate address he rented through Airbnb.
Manchester United are said to be investigating after a bash kept neighbours awake on August 28.

Striker Vivianne Miedema’s rocket into the roof of the net quickly put the visitors back ahead.
Things then hotted up when Hammers skipper Gilly Flaherty was sent off  on her 50th appearance — for a second yellow for dissent on 37 minutes.
As she marched off, Flaherty roared into the stands: “Please look at the ref’s decisions,” having rightly protested about an offside in the build-up to Miedema’s strike.
Miedema hit the woodwork before Kim Little and Beth Mead found the net within two minutes of each other.
After the break, Roord slotted home on 52 minutes before Miedema cracked in another a minute later.
The craziness continued as unstoppable Roord lashed a low drive to claim her hat-trick.
Leah Williamson  kept a cool head to slot home the Gunners’ eighth goal, before a tap-in from Caitlin Foord.

Dutch midfielder Roord said: “It was a great win. The red card killed the game a bit but it’s a great start.
“We want to end the season as high as possible and fight for first place.”
West Ham boss Matt Beard said: “Gilly wears her heart on her sleeve.

“She was frustrated with decision after decision going against us — the referee’s decisions have changed the game.
“That scoreline can’t happen, regardless, but this can’t continue.
“Ultimately they are going to cost people their jobs.”

Leicester told David Brooks transfer will cost £50m with Man Utd and Tottenham also eyeing Bournemouth star

LEICESTER will have to pay a stunning £50million for Bournemouth star David Brooks.
Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers is keen on the Welsh midfielder and is the leading contender despite past interest from Manchester United and Tottenham.

Brooks had an injury-hit last season and could not stop the Cherries going down — but they still want a fortune for him and told him the figure last week.
Bournemouth have collected millions from sales already and are digging in for top money for Brooks, 23, who is vital in their promotion bid.
The relegated outfit are more open to selling Josh King.

Tottenham are now looking into a move after missing out on Ollie Watkins, who has joined Aston Villa.
King can cover for Harry Kane or play out wide, making him ideal if the price is right.
Villa, Fulham and Everton are also short-listing King should the Norwegian, 28, be available in the £15m range.
Spurs are in talks with Habib Diallo at French club Metz as a potential alternative.

The speedy Senegalese forward, 25, would cost Spurs £13m.

Bournemouth are also facing a fight to keep midfielder Dan Gosling, who is wanted by Turkish side Ankaragucu.
Gosling is in the last year of his contract and did not start Jason Tindall’s first game in charge on Saturday.
The Turks are willing to pay a small fee and offer him a two-year stay.
