Tottenham plot second Kyle Joseph swoop after highly-rated Scotland youth star rejected £150,000 transfer

TOTTENHAM are set to go back in for Wigan hotshot Kyle Joseph after his superb hat-trick against Burton in midweek.
Spurs made a £150,000 offer for the Scotland Under-21 striker in the last window.

And Jose Mourinho’s side also put a deal on the table to tempt him.
But Joseph said no — and also snubbed Sheffield United.
Spurs took midfielder Alfie Devine from Wigan and he has made progress.
So they hope it persuades Joseph there is a path to the first team.

The Latics need to come out of administration or face losing a handful of players this week.
They have seven on short-term deals and will not be able to keep them unless new owners are in.
Spurs themselves could be set for exits this month too.
SunSport understands Hugo Lloris is a target for Paris Saint-Germain.

Mauricio Pochettino was confirmed by the French giants on Saturday and is keen on a reunion with his former goalie.
PSG also continue to be linked with Dele Alli after failing to land him in the summer.
Meanwhile, reports claim star man Harry Kane is being lined up for an audacious Manchester City move at the end of the season.

QPR ready to offer ex-Tottenham chief Tim Sherwood a return to dugout if struggles continue

QPR are ready to ask Tim Sherwood to become their boss if Mark Warburton fails to turn round results.

The former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager is working as a TV pundit and has turned down other chances to go back into the dugout.
Sherwood has been out of football since a season at Swindon, where he was director of football but left when they were relegated.
But he showed his potential at Spurs, famously giving Harry Kane his big break and also talking old pal Ferdinand into joining his team.
Sherwood had a bitter-sweet spell at Villa, which ended after he took them to the FA Cup final.

Since then he has been on the fringes of the game but friends say he would take up a challenge if it was right and he could trust his bosses.
A major stumbling block could be his £1million-a-year pay demands, though.
Sherwood is pals with Chris Ramsey and could form part of a new management team if Ferdinand can fund it.
Rangers have had a flat season under Warburton and are just above the relegation zone in the Championship.

They are also trying to do a deal for Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes.
He is a free agent in the summer and could leave this month.
Ferdinand will free up funds for a goalscorer and Rhodes has a proven record at the level.
Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri stopped him leaving before by asking for a big fee.
But with his contract running out, that will be impossible this time.

Pep Guardiola claims Chelsea chief Frank Lampard is on way to becoming a ‘legend’ like Carlo Ancelotti

PEP GUARDIOLA is convinced that Frank Lampard is already on the way to making himself a legend as a manager.

Lamps comes up against Pep having spent almost £230million on rebooting Chelsea for a title challenge.
Instead he is under pressure after three defeats in December that will allow City to overtake his struggling side with a win today.
Yet Guardiola sees Lampard as a true Blueblood and declared: “He is an excellent manager.
“And he is a top, top, top guy — like Carlo Ancelotti who is a legend for me.

“He is one of the people I admire the most, Frank is an incredible person.
“It is nice to be involved with such a nice person.”
Guardiola also recognises not only ambition in Lampard but the desire to turn what he has always seen as his Stamford Bridge home into a place for champions again.

Catalan Guardiola made his name at Barcelona — his own spiritual home — despite moving on to Bayern Munich and then the Etihad.

Lampard spent a season as a player at Manchester City — but left for New York a year before Guardiola’s arrival in 2016. Former England midfielder Lampard cut his teeth as a boss at Derby County, then returned to the club where he spent 13 years and made himself the Blues’ 211-goal all-time top scorer.
Guardiola said: “Lampard has spent  — except at the beginning at West Ham and the end at two other clubs — all his life there at Chelsea and for sure it is special for him.

I think he wants more than ever to do well — but football is tough business for everyone
    Pep Guardiola

“You are training where you were young, you won everything there.
“It is very special, of course it is.
“I think he wants more than ever to do well — but football is tough business for everyone.”
Yet Guardiola vows he will not drop his standards in a bid to add more silverware — and  to his reputation as one of the greatest managers of his generation.
After Sunday’s Prem clash, City face Manchester United in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final, before an FA Cup third- round date with Birmingham.
But despite Covid absentees and injuries, Guardiola swears he will not back down in either competition by playing weakened teams.
He stressed: “The people who know me know we are never going to drop one competition, or even one game.”

Josh Kelly out to remind Sunderland fans what success looks like after being booted from academy

JOSH KELLY wants to put smiles back on the faces of Sunderland fans — with all the flair that got him axed from his boyhood club.
The 26-year-old welterweight will be the first major British boxing act of 2021 when he aims to dethrone David Avanesyan for his European title on January 30.

With the former Premier League force languishing in League One, it has not been a fun few years for Mackem fans.
But silky 2016 Olympian Kelly is out to remind his fellow Black Cats what success looks like.
He said: “When I was a kid I watched Prince Naseem Hamed, Ray Leonard, Willie Pep and I loved how they boxed and wanted to do it the way I wanted to do it.
“I was the same at football. When I was in the Sunderland academy I wanted to have the ball and take people on and they would always tell me I have to pass it.

“I was released and taken back a few times but then I focused on boxing because I wanted a sport to show my flair in.
“I remember my first-ever session with the academy, basically my trial. I got the ball, went past three people, passed the ball, got it back and had a shot.
“They stopped the session and had a go at me for not passing straight away. They told me, ‘The simple thing is always best’ but I was thinking, ‘Well, why doesn’t Ronaldo do that, then?’.
“My flair was just built into me as a kid.

“I can box simple and hold my hands up but if I am not getting caught and I am winning fights then that’s how I will box.
People think I will change my style when I step up in class but I have a lot of layers and people are going to see them.”
When this fight was first announced for December 2018, Kelly was the red-hot favourite.
But two cancellations, following an illness for the Englishman and the pandemic, have let the 32-year-old Russian champion boost his record to 26-3-1 and sway bookies.
But Kelly, still a young pup with just ten professional wins and a draw to his name, is happy being the underdog.
He added: “This fight has been a long time coming and it’s finally time to silence my doubters.

“He is the favourite heading into the fight. He has proved how good he is in his last three fights.
“It’s going to be a good fight but one I’m quietly confident about.
“I feel like this is a turning point in my career.
“When I win, then I will take it to the next level.
“A lot in my future depends on this fight.”

Bruno Fernandes hails Man Utd team-mate Paul Pogba’s ‘top’ performance and warns rivals best is to come

BRUNO FERNANDES praised his ‘top’ midfield partner Paul Pogba — but believes there is much more to come from the French star.
The £89million Manchester United ace looked more like his old self in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.

Fernandes has taken most of the headlines for his performances since he arrived at Old Trafford a year ago this month.
But he feels Pogba has a huge role to play  as United chase glory on four fronts.
The former Juventus man had a hand in the Red Devils’ opener against Villa,  then also won the  penalty which  Fernandes scored to secure the points.
The Portuguese international said: “I think Paul was top on Friday night. We know all the qualities he has.  That is not in doubt.

“We know he can play, we know he can help us and he was involved in both goals. For the first, he shows very good skill.
“He will give more and more and more with the confidence coming game after game.”
Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was  also delighted with the display the club’s record signing put in.
When Scott McTominay, Fred and Fernandes all shone in the 6-2 rout of Leeds, Pogba was watching on from the bench.

And with his agent Mino Raiola seemingly keen to move him on, there were yet more doubts about the World Cup winner’s future at the club.
But Solskjaer felt the 27-year-old showed what he can give to the team  against Villa.
He added: “Paul is getting fitter and stronger — and then you get performances like this.
“He took 25 minutes to get going but when he did get going, he made a difference for us.
“I think it’s important we get Paul on the ball, whether it’s low in the pitch or a bit higher between the lines.
“I think that he made the difference higher up. I know he started off defending. But we wanted him to make runs in behind them, to get on the ball.

“His physical presence is important for us because we knew that Aston Villa are one of the strongest sides  in the Premier League.
“We needed to match them. And he won a lot of headers, I was delighted with his performance.”
Fernandes was impressed by the way his team-mates rallied round each other to ensure they moved level on points with Liverpool.
Villa staged a fightback which could easily have brought an equaliser, if not for an Eric Bailly  last-ditch block at the death.
Former Sporting Lisbon skipper Fernandes said: “On Friday night it was Eric making the tackle.
“But I saw it in the stands in the last  minutes, everyone shouting and taking care of the ball.”

Man City star Benjamin Mendy broke Covid rules by hosting New Year’s Eve party

MAN City ace Benjamin Mendy hosted a party at his home on New Year’s Eve — just as five teammates were struck down with Covid.
The star admitted he may have breached rules as pals outside his household attended the bash, which came three days after Covid cases at his club forced their game against Everton to be called off.

Benjamin Mendy flouted strict Covid regulations by hosting a New Year’s Eve party – pictured with his niece

Partygoers leave Mendy’s home just before dawn

On Boxing Day, we can reveal he sent a video to a model agency boss in London asking for him to send him “girls”.
Mendy last night apologised for breaking the Covid rules.
The news will infuriate boss Pep Guardiola who says players are reminded every day about guidelines.
It comes as the Premier League faces a crisis over increasing infections in clubs.

Today’s Burnley v Fulham clash is off because of the rise in cases. And Tottenham Hotspur slammed stars Erik Lamela, Sergio Reguillon and Giovani Lo Celso for also flouting virus rules.
A social media pic showed them with West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini, plus families among 18 people — in clear breach of Tier 4 rules on mixing indoors.
West Ham said it was “disappointed” with Lanzini who had been disciplined and “reminded of his responsibilities”.
Separately, Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic and Crystal Palace’s Luka Milivojevic were also snapped together. The clubs opened probes into their players who are Serbia teammates.

Covidiot Mendy went ahead with the rule-breaking New Year’s Eve party despite the virus threatening to curtail the Premier League season.
    ‘MENDY IS AN IDIOT’
The Man City defender’s bash — three days after his side’s clash with Everton was postponed due to the bug — was attended by at least three people outside his household.
Mendy said he, his girlfriend, his niece and nephew — who all live with him — attended the bash.
But he admitted his girlfriend’s pal and her partner were also there, along with a chef. During the party, Mendy tweeted a message at 11.23pm urging people to take caution. It read: “Happy New Year. Take care of you and yours.”
Pictures taken outside appeared to show three girls leaving at 6am on New Year’s Day. Another trio of local women were seen outside his house at 7.45am.
Some women were spotted carrying gold-coloured balloons like one seen in the player’s £5million pad.
Mendy insisted he did not let them into his home.
One local said of the celebrations at Mendy’s home: “There was a lot of noise coming from the house and you could hear girls shouting and enjoying themselves.
“At midnight, there was an absolutely massive firework display. It must have cost a fortune and it went on for at least ten minutes.
“The partying clearly carried on until the early hours. Mendy is an idiot for breaking the rules so blatantly.”

Three Spurs stars and a West Ham ace were snapped at a party together in what appears to be a breach of coronavirus rules
Mendy had previously come under fire for holding a party at his home in October which broke the Rule of Six. The player admitted his New Year’s Eve shindig breached Covid rules because he invited three people from outside his household.
He also claimed a man and some women turned up uninvited to his home in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire, but were turned away.
He has reported this breach to the club but it was unclear if it was done before or after we approached the club over the story. A club spokesman confirmed last night it was looking into the Covid breach.
Mendy’s rule breach came as it emerged he also sent a video to a modelling agent begging him to send “girls” from London to visit him in Cheshire.
Mendy, 26, sent the Instagram message on Boxing Day — the day after two team-mates had tested positive for Covid — asking for the beauties to be flown up to him. Footage obtained by The Sun on Sunday shows the £52million star, with his mask hanging below his nose, making the recording at City’s training complex.
In it, Mendy, who is wearing a club training top, tells the agent: “You good bro. You know with all the girls — you have some I want.”
Going behind his girlfriend’s back, the £90,000-a-week player adds: “But I’m scared because my girl is from London and she knows too much girl to know something and say.”
Mendy declared he wanted a “big bum Latina” in one message to the agent.
He also said: “Show me some (girls) if I tell u 2/3 days before they can come.”
    ‘COMPLETE DISREGARD’
There is no suggestion the agent sent any girls to Mendy. He recorded his plea just hours after City players, Kyle Walker, 30, and Gabriel Jesus, 23, tested positive. City’s clash with Everton was axed two days later.
During the filming, a replay commentary of City’s Boxing Day win over Newcastle appears to be playing in the background.
In it, the commentator mentions absent striker Jesus, saying: “Gabriel Jesus would have scored by now in the game on Tuesday.” Jesus had netted in the third minute of the club’s League Cup win at Arsenal on Tuesday, December 22.
The model agency boss said: “I was stunned when he sent me this. It shows a complete disregard for his and other people’s safety.
“He must know about the dangers from being a top player at a top club and it’s shocking that football is taking so many precautions and he is acting like this.
“He had contacted me before asking about girls, and wanted them to fly up from London to Manchester and stay with him. I was not that surprised by him going behind his girl’s back as that’s what footballers do, but was shocked by him not worrying about Covid.”
Mendy, who joined City from Monaco in 2017, made his request when London and the South East were in “stay at home” Tier 4 measures.
Manchester and Cheshire were in “very high alert” Tier 3 at the time but have since moved up a tier. Both tiers bar people meeting people from other households indoors.
The bash ended just hours before the club manager Pep said in a press conference that City reminded players daily to follow guidelines.

On Boxing Day, we can reveal he sent a video to a model agency boss in London asking for him to send him ‘girls’
He said: “We spoke every day to the players — be careful, stay at home, don’t be in contact other people and do what you have to do.
“Follow the scientists and the measures we have to follow, try to follow them.”
City closed their training ground for a deep clean after confirming five positive Covid cases, including Walker and Jesus. It has since reopened.
Mendy had previously used social media in a bid to help curb the spread of the virus.
In May, he posted a picture of himself and other City players including Kevin de Bruyne, 29, and Riyad Mahrez, also 29, as they trained while keeping to social distancing recommendations. He captioned it: “Safety first.”
In the same month in an interview published on the club’s website, Muslim Mendy said he used lockdown to focus on his religion and the holy month of Ramadan.
He added: “I have tried to develop myself and learn every day. First of all, I was just working out and training, but then I wanted to learn new stuff as well so I started painting and I like it now. I know that this is a difficult moment, but it is going to be better.”
On March 12, before the first national lockdown, it was announced Mendy was self-isolating after a family member was admitted to hospital displaying Covid symptoms.
Covid expert Doctor Bharat Pankhania, senior lecturer at the University of Exeter Medical school, said: “Human contact is what is driving this infectious disease.

Mendy is a French professional footballer who plays as a left backCredit: Getty Images – Getty
“It is important that celebrities, like everybody else in society, limits contact.
“That is the most important thing, especially at a time when we have a new strain of the virus. Thankfully, the new strain does not appear to cause more severe infections.
“But it does appear to be more infectious and transfer more easily. If you look at graphs of infection, infections start in the young and are transferred upwards to people in their 30s and 40s and then ultimately to 60 to 80 year-olds who are more at risk.
“If you have more cases, more people will be in hospital, and some of them will die. But there is no guarantee that, just because you are young and fit, that you will fight off the virus.
“Some young people do succumb to this virus. But they also act as conduits and pass it on.

“Celebrities, like everyone, need to set an example.”
A spokesperson for Benjamin Mendy said “Benjamin and his partner allowed a chef and two friends of his partner to attend his property for a dinner party on New Years Eve. Ben accepts that this is a breach of COVID-19 protocols and is sorry for his actions in this matter.
“Ben has had a Covid test and is liaising with Manchester City about this.”

Arsenal ace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, bottom, looks on stunned as his brother Willy performed a dance before shooting the pistol

Willy, 33, topless and wearing trousers with braces, loaded the weapon before pulling faces at the camera.
He then raised the gun close to his head and fired.
The bemused Gunners captain, 31, appeared to call his brother “strange” and laugh nervously as he watched on his screen.
The pair were chatting on Instagram Live from different locations in the last minutes of 2020, with 5,000 followers watching.

One Arsenal fan told the Sun: “I couldn’t believe what I was watching. I was shocked and scared.”

Arsenal striker Aubameyang has struggled this season to repeat the goal-scoring of form of the previous campaign, when he came close to winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot award last year with 22 goals in 36 games.
So far he has managed just three goals in 14 games in the top-flight since finally signing a new £350,000-a-week Gunners contract in September.
