But a source said Pogba is hugely popular in the dressing room.
They said: “Paul may be regarded with suspicion by a lot of the fanbase because of his agent courting other clubs, but there is no doubt where the players stand with him.
“They recognise he is one of the team’s stars and he is as desperate as they are for the club to be successful again.
“He is well-liked by all his team-mates and no one wants him to leave.
“But they also understand if a player is unhappy, it usually leads to his departure.
“They all hope he will start the next season at Old Trafford.”

Pogba, 28, returned to United from Juventus in August 2016 for a club-record £89million.
His contract runs out next year and his agent Mino Raiola has said he was “unhappy” at United.

Arsenal plotting to beat West Ham to permanent transfer for Jesse Lingard after stunning loan from Man Utd

ARSENAL are planning to gazump West Ham’s bid to turn Jesse Lingard’s loan move into a permanent one.David Moyes would love to make Lingard’s London move permanent after proving to be a smash hit during his short-term stay.

But the Hammers will tell Manchester United to rubbish plans to offer him as makeweight for Declan Rice.
And that has opened the door for the Gunners to swoop leading Emirates bosses have made tentative inquiries about him.
Arsenal actually asked about a potential loan deal of their own before Christmas.
But United didn’t want to ‘lend’ him to a club they expected to be a serious top four rival.
Lingard has just 12 months left on his current contract, and ideally United would like him to sign another – if only to ensure they get top dollar should they sell.
Yet the player is now swaying towards leaving Old Trafford for good, after getting regular first team football again at West Ham – something he knows is unlikely if he returned to Manchester.
Lingard’s form has been so impressive since moving that it earned him an England recall for the recent internationals, and he is right in the frame for a place in the Euros squad.
Italian side Roma have also been monitoring his situation.

But they are big outsiders, as he would far prefer to stay in the Premier League.
United know the Gunners’ interest means they can keep the asking price high.
They could meet his wages of almost £110,000 a week and Arteta is planning to make a shock raid for Lingard, who has hit six goals in eight games since joining the Hammers in February.

Jose Mourinho must beat Man Utd to maintain top four push or face massive pressure from Spurs chiefs

JOSE MOURINHO has had a knack of pulling a result out of the bag when the chips are down — and he certainly needs it this afternoon.Tottenham vs Manchester United has always been a massive game and I know some are even calling this one the biggest of Jose’s time at Spurs.
The pressure will be on Jose Mourinho if Tottenham don’t beat Man UtdCredit: Getty
That is the view of SunSport columnist Harry RedknappCredit: PA
I don’t know about that but it’s certainly hugely important because I don’t think anything less than the Champions League will keep Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy happy.
Spurs have got to finish in the top four and there can be no excuses if they don’t when you look at that squad. Miss out and it would put real pressure on Jose, for sure.
The bottom line is that this is a game they MUST win and United don’t necessarily have to, which is why I think the advantage is with Tottenham.
They may be the ones under the most pressure to get a result but little things like that can have a huge bearing.
If you’re United, you can be thinking, ‘We’re not going to win the league but we’re not going to miss out on the top four either’.
It’s almost a situation of, do we stick or do we twist? Do we go hell for leather or play it safe?
For Tottenham, it’s like being 1-0 down from the home leg in a European game and you go to their place and know you have to win. And they have to.
I know they’re in the Carabao Cup final but, even if they won, I don’t think that alone would be enough.

Half the teams come in late, the games are basically reserve sides even in the quarter-finals and, while it’s nice to lift a trophy, finishing in the top four is what really counts.
For all their slip-ups, Spurs still have a great chance — but they can’t afford too many more mistakes.
We know Manchester City are different class and at the start of the season there only looked to be two places up for grabs because Liverpool were nailed-on for one of them.
But no one saw them having the season they’ve had — they might not even make the Champions League next season.
And when you look at the players Jose has for every position — pretty much two inter- nationals for each one — there’s no way they should miss out.
I actually thought this would be the year they could even win the title, so the fact they’re in a battle to even make the top four is pretty amazing really.
But West Ham aren’t going away, Leicester are still right in there and although Chelsea opened it up a bit by losing to West Brom, you still fancy them to be in the four.
So Spurs really can’t afford not to beat United — and games between these two are always ones to look forward to.
I didn’t have the best record against United when I was Tottenham manager but I don’t go along with the idea of there being some sort of mental block against them.
Sir Alex Ferguson had some fantastic teams there, some of the best players we’ve had in the Premier League, and they had a great record against most sides over the years.
Spurs will need Harry Kane to be at the top of his game against the Red DevilsCredit: Getty
I do remember going to Old Trafford in my first season at Spurs, when we were two up at half-time.
Then they got a diabolical penalty — ref Howard Webb eventually admitted to me he got it wrong — which turned the whole game and they came back to beat us.
That was a game we should have won, although I did have some good results against them with other clubs.
I beat them with West Ham in the FA Cup and of course Portsmouth the year we went on to win it.
Probably the biggest game, though, was the one when we drew with United at Upton Park on the day Blackburn won the league at Anfield.
Everyone thought we’d get rolled over. Liverpool wouldn’t try because they didn’t want United to win it and Kenny Dalglish was Rovers manager.
But then Liverpool beat them and even though we got absolutely battered, we hung on for a point and Blackburn were champions anyway.
I think that was one of the great days for English football. Nothing to do with who won the title but just because the whole world could see how straight our game was.
Let’s just say I’m far from convinced that would have happened in a lot of other countries.
Not that Fergie thought like that at the time — although I’d hope he has forgiven me by now!
    CZECH OUT WEST HAM
I’D love to see West Ham finish in the top four, for obvious reasons — but as much for David Moyes and his coaching team as anything else.
Of course the two Czech lads, Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal, have been outstanding all season.
But getting Craig Dawson and Jesse Lingard were inspired moves — and I’m convinced no foreign managers would have done the same.
They were both signings of a man who really knows English football, knows this league and knew what they could give.
Moyesie deserves a medal for the work he’s done… but just as he’s built a great team on the pitch, the coaching one ain’t bad either.
And as much as the manager is being praised, let’s not forget the roles Stuart Pearce, Alan Irvine, Paul Nevin and Kevin Nolan have played too.
West Ham are having a phenomenal season under David MoyesCredit: PA
    NOT GREALLY THAT GOOD
I WATCHED Aston Villa against Fulham last week and Scott Parker must have been tearing his hair out wondering how his Cottagers lost 3-1.
But if it proved one thing to me it was this… as much as they may argue the point, without Jack Grealish Villa are a pretty average side.
And no one will convince me otherwise.

Brave Birmingham players speaking out about work conditions shows there are still huge steps to me made in women’s game

BIRMINGHAM CITY players were incredibly brave to speak out against their own club. The FA opened an investigation into the Blues after their female stars wrote a letter slamming working conditions.
Alex Scott salutes the bravery of Birmingham City Women players and calls on others to speak up
The complaints reportedly included some players earning LESS than the minimum wage.
There were also concerns over a lack of access to the training-ground gym, changing rooms, medical treatment and travel arrangements for away fixtures.
Birmingham boss Carla Ward has since said “positive discussions” have taken place between her players and club bigwigs.
City have expressed their commitment to the women’s team and plan to relocate games to St Andrew’s next season.
I often feel as a female footballer you’re always meant to feel grateful, because everyone’s going out of their way to go above and beyond for you.
So I know the situation must have been bad for those players to speak out and risk putting a stain on the Birmingham name.
They must have felt enough is enough.
People instantly presume that in women’s football we are fighting for equal pay, but we’re not. It’s bigger than that.
It’s about having equal opportunities to working conditions with the men.
This isn’t just about Birmingham City and them fighting on their own, but everyone who cares about the women’s game has got to speak up.
Ward’s side weren’t demanding ridiculous things — they just wanted fair treatment from their club.
Even though they play football for the love of the sport, the Birmingham players have ultimately put their jobs on the line by complaining.
I know captain Harriet Scott juggles a medical degree with professional football. She recently swapped her footie shirt for scrubs to work at Royal Stoke Hospital, fighting Covid-19 on the front line.
Players like Harriet have had to risk potentially losing an income from football and missing out on paying the bills to complain about City’s working conditions.

I know how scared the players would have been during the process of writing the letter, so they deserve our full support.
There have been so many positive steps made in women’s football, like the record broadcasting deal with Sky Sports and the BBC for next season.
But it seems like now some people are viewing the WSL through rose-tinted glasses and not realising there are still huge steps to be made.

Mikel Arteta ignores Arsenal fans’ Gabriel Martinelli pleas as under-fire boss insists starlet is NOT answer to problems

MIKEL ARTETA has vowed he will not be pressured by Arsenal fan demands to unleash Gabriel Martinelli despite the club’s struggle for form. The striker is already a huge favourite with Gunners supporters who think the 19-year-old Brazilian should be a regular.

But despite mounting criticism from the fanbase, boss Arteta is refusing to bow to their wishes.
He said: “When the team is not winning enough football matches, we always look for someone else to do it.
“But we can name a few of those. I respect that, and Gabi is doing really well.
“We have to be a little bit patient with him because we cannot put six or seven young kids out there. We need some cohesion, we need the timing. Gabi has a lot of things to improve.
“He has got big qualities as well and we have other players in those positions.
“Then we have to create links within the team and balance within the team. This will come.
“But he has a bright future at the club and he will have all the opportunities that he needs to show how good he is and the career he can have with us.”

Arsenal take on Sheffield United tonight desperate to end a run of 14 matches in all competitions without keeping a clean sheet.
But Arteta insists it has nothing to do with his tactics and the work he has done, but is more the fault of the players.
He added: “If you look at the clean sheets we had at the time, to compare to what we have done now, I think we have to relate as well the amount of chances and shots we allow on our goal.
“I am telling you now we concede much less than before. But we make some big errors that have cost us a lot of goals in recent weeks.

“It’s true, it’s always difficult to find that balance because we are producing much more football.
“Overall we are doing much better than we used to do, but at the end the results define the perception because we are here to win.”

Arsenal stars turn on Mikel Arteta with players furious they are being blamed for nightmare season

MIKEL ARTETA is facing growing resentment from players upset they are being blamed for Arsenal’s problems instead of him.Senior stars are increasingly frustrated at the way boss Arteta has been able to paint a picture that the fault for the side’s poor season is all down to them.

SunSport understands some within the squad believe the Spaniard is all ‘emperor’s new clothes’ by talking a good game but failing to actually deliver.
It is the first sign of cracks beginning to appear within the Emirates over the way Arteta has gone about his job in the 15 months he has been in charge.
They are questioning why he happily revelled in leading the club to FA Cup glory last season but is not so keen on taking responsibility for poor games.
Instead they believe he responds to disappointing results by often leaving out a big name the following week — giving the impression that individual players are culpable.
Skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was axed for the Europa League draw with Slavia Prague after the dismal 3-0 thrashing by Liverpool — a match when Arsenal’s tactics were found wanting.
It is believed the treatment of striker Aubameyang has not gone unnoticed among the players, with other top names suffering similar problems.
All accept they have not been consistently playing well enough but at times have found it hard to know exactly what their coach wants from them.
There is a feeling midfielder Thomas Partey is not being allowed to flourish because of the manager’s ideas.

Lack of team identity, management techniques and tactics in matches have all started to be questioned by some.
And they think the club have allowed the public perception to become one where they are letting their boss down.
Arteta defended Aubameyang ahead of the Gunners’ clash with Sheffield United saying he is confident the Gabonese will not become another Mesut Ozil.
And the Spaniard also urged Partey to prove why the North Londoners paid £45m for him.

Married Premier League star ignored snaps of his lovechild after two-year fling with hostess

A MARRIED Premier League star snubbed snaps of his lovechild, we can reveal. The rat also ignored a legal warning that he will be named in an upcoming overseas court hearing.
A Prem ace fathered a baby girl with event hostess Jaqueline Sousa during a secret two-year fling
We told last week how the ace fathered a baby girl with event hostess Jaqueline Sousa during a secret two-year fling.
She has sent a solicitor’s letter to the star’s club informing him she has filed a paternity claim for maintenance.
But Jaqueline, 33, told The Sun on Sunday: “I’ve not heard a word. He knew this was going to come out but he has chosen to ignore it.
“He thinks maybe it will go away but he is being very foolish. He can turn his back on me but not our daughter.
“I’ve sent him pictures and video of our little girl walking and he hasn’t even responded.
“How heartless is that? She is his own flesh and blood and he ignores her.
“This is the same man who insists he is a family man.
“It’s a joke. If people knew what he has put me through, they would be shocked.”
Last week, Jacqueline told how the star texted her from his wedding and honeymoon.
Their daughter is now nine months old and, in footage seen by The Sun on Sunday, she bears a striking resemblance to the player.
Jaqueline Sousa says the star even texted her from his wedding begging her to stay with him

Jaqueline added: “After I spoke to you, I expected him to get in touch but nothing has happened. It’s been total silence and now we will see what happens at court — if he even bothers to attend.
“He knew there was a chance this would come out.
“He said he loved me. I was truly in love with him. I thought I was in a fairytale. It became a nightmare.”

Troy Deeney says footballers should continue taking the knee next season as ‘it has made a real difference’

Players have taken the knee to highlight the need for racial equality since football came out of lockdown last June.
And, as black players continue to be targeted on social media, Deeney urged his fellow pros to continue the practice.
He said: “It’s my personal belief that taking a knee has made a real difference — that it has highlighted the issue and provoked conversation.
“I think taking the knee in front of full houses will have even more of an impact.
“There need to be further talks about what happens if some supporters boo or show dissent in other ways.
“But in my view that would only add to the difficult and necessary conversations on racism continuing.
“A lot more discussions are needed between players, clubs and the leagues.
“I would like unity on this and I’d like us to continue reinforcing the key message of civil rights and equality.
