But on Saturday, the two go head-to-head in a Prem showdown.
And Villa boss Gerrard admitted: “Let’s try and win the game and score goals.
“Then you’ll see a really authentic reaction.
“First and foremost we have to put ourselves in that position of trying to score goals.
“Then, I’ll be as normal, as human and as authentic as I’ve always been.
“I will deal with it as and when.

“But I don’t think I should give you any headlines until then.”
Gerrard makes his first return to Anfield as a manager today for his fifth game since taking over from sacked Dean Smith at Villa.
But asked if he sees Stevie G coming back for good as a Kop boss, Klopp declared: “Oh, yeah, Yes, absolutely.
“The only problem is when is the right moment for that?
“That’s not only about Stevie, but we saw that with Frank Lampard, for example, at Chelsea – a similar story.
“Stevie is doing really well because he is very young. So it’s just when is the right moment to take the job.
“Not that he is not able to do it, but how long you want to do it.
“So, is this the last job you do, is it the second job you do, the third job you do, whatever.
“They are questions I cannot answer and I do not think I would be involved in him coming back here as a manager.

“But yes, I think it will definitely happen – and good for everybody.”
Gerrard says the focus on him has taken the pressure off his team – and allowed them to concentrate on tackling title-chasing Liverpool.
He added: “There’s more pressure on Liverpool.
“At their end of the table,  they can’t afford to drop points.
“But if people are putting attention on me, and I can protect my players, I’ll certainly sign up for that.” More

Man United ace Marcus Rashford launches £10 Xmas meal-for-six plan with chef Tom Kerridge – try it yourself

WHEN Man United star Marcus Rashford was a kid, his mum always made sure there was a special dinner on Christmas Day.But hard-working Melanie often had to go to the food bank for her family’s festive feast.

Growing up, fellow poverty campaigner Tom Kerridge never ate the lavish meals the customers of his Michelin-starred restaurants enjoy.
But at Christmas, his mother Jackie kept it traditional for him and his brother, serving up a Bernard Matthews turkey roast.
Now TV chef Tom, 48, and England ace Marcus, 24, have joined up to make sure every family, no matter their financial circumstances, can enjoy a hearty roast on December 25.
The pair have created a meal that can feed up to six people and costs just £10.
It’s been such a difficult 18 months for so many and we wanted to highlight the holidays as being a time for happiness and togetherness, as opposed to a period approached with anxiety and stress.Marcus Rashford
Marcus, who has been awarded an MBE for his anti-food poverty campaigning, tells The Sun: “It’s been such a difficult 18 months for so many and we wanted to highlight the holidays as being a time for happiness and togetherness, as opposed to a period approached with anxiety and stress.
“The holidays have the ability to put a smile on people’s faces, and the least they deserve is a hot Christmas dinner.
“Family activity can be restricted heavily by finances, so it’s nice to get them in the kitchen together creating memories.

“People, now more than ever, also have to be super-conscious of electricity and gas bills.
“Tom has done a great job working with nutritionists to stretch ingredients as far as he can.”
As well as working several jobs, Marcus’s mum would occasionally skip meals in order to feed her five children. She turned to a local food bank in Manchester at Christmas.
He reveals: “Mum often relied on the food bank for Christmas dinner.“She was working three jobs. She was doing her best.
“We didn’t have a lot but we had each other, and mum wanted to make sure we had a Christmas dinner on the table.
“We would go and pick it up on Christmas Eve.
“There would be a massive queue. But it was all prepped and ready to go, which made it much easier. As long as we were together, that’s all that mattered.”
This month 2.3million children went to bed hungry in Britain, which is something the England hero hopes to prevent during what should be a time of comfort and joy.
Tom, who grew up on council estates in and around Gloucester, was entitled to free school meals, like Marcus.
His mum made sure Christmas felt special even when money was tight. Tom says: “Most Christmases it would be me, my mum and my younger brother, Sam.“We were very lucky, my mum never made me feel we went without. It was always a very caring and loving house.
“We normally used to have one of those Bernard Matthews turkey roasts, that would be our roast turkey dinner.”
Having worked in restaurants across the country for three decades, Tom knows all the best ingredients.
His expertise has made him a staple of television, appearing on shows such as the BBC’s Great British Menu.
Do your FareShare to fight child hungerTHE Full Time Meals campaign supports FareShare, the country’s largest food poverty charity network.
Marcus and Tom are urging people to donate £10, the cost of these Christmas meals, to fight hunger.
You can donate online via fareshare.org.uk/fulltime.
Or simply text 5FULL to 70580 to donate £5, 10FULL to 70580 to donate £10, or 20FULL to 70580 to donate £20. Texts will cost the donation amount plus one standard network rate.
For more info on the Healthy Start scheme go to healthystart.nhs.uk

For his campaign with Marcus he has devised a Christmas dinner which includes a tasty turkey roll with stuffing and traybake veggies.
For Boxing Day there is a potato and carrot hash with fried eggs — and any turkey leftovers.
The two meals feed half a dozen people and come in at less than £10 if you use a Healthy Start voucher or card.
Part of the reason for this campaign is to raise awareness of the NHS scheme, because 40 per cent of those eligible have not signed up.
Healthy Start offers vouchers or a prepaid card to help women who are more than ten weeks pregnant or who have kids under four to buy nutritious food and milk and access to free vitamins.
My childhood isn’t too dissimilar to Marcus’s in that we both grew up in single-parent families an had mums who had more than one job. We both had free school meals.Tom Kerridge
But even if you do not qualify for the scheme, Tom and Marcus’s recipes will help anyone enjoy a celebratory meal on a budget.
As well as today’s recipes, we will be publishing four more in The Sun on Sunday and you can watch cook-along videos, explaining step-by-step instructions, at 11am tomorrow on the FullTimeMeals Instagram acount.
Tom says: “My childhood isn’t too dissimilar to Marcus’s in that we both grew up in single-parent families an had mums who had more than one job. We both had free school meals.
“This campaign is about making people’s lives a little bit easier. Everyone should be entitled to a special meal at Christmas.”
His mum Jackie worked as a secretary during the day and washed up in the pub in the evening, but always took time off over Christmas.
Tom also makes sure he has plenty of quality time with his own family, including wife Beth and five-year-old son Acey, during the festivities.
While many pub restaurants serve up lunch with all the trimmings on December 25, Tom closes. He says: “Christmas Day is amazing. I will be cooking dinner, tunes will be on, kids will be running around opening presents.”
This warm and loving scene is not possible for everyone. For those in debt, the idea of buying presents and forking out for ingredients is stressful.
Tom explains: “The reality for so many people is that Christmas can be awkward and uncomfortable. It can be very expensive.”
The turkey roll and Boxing Day veggie hash can be cooked by parents who are short of pots and pans too.
Tom says: “It’s not a whole turkey, it is steaks stuffed and roast veggies. It feels very Christmassy. It can all be cooked in one tray and doesn’t need a huge amount of work.
“You need to be realistic about the ingredients and the way you cook them.”With Tom’s help, Marcus has also developed his cooking skills and the pair hope the nation’s children will find joy in the kitchen.
Tom says: “We want to encourage everyone to have a go. We want kids to say ‘I cooked this meal’.”

2 large parsnips, peeled and cut into chunks
    6 tbsp vegetable oil
    Pinch of salt (optional)
    For gravy
    4 tbsp low-salt gravy granules

    EQUIPMENT NEEDED:

    Large pack of cling film
    Box grater
    Peeler
    Sharp knife
    Chopping board
    Mixing bowl
    Roasting tray
    Saucepan

    METHOD:

Place a large sheet of cling film on to a chopping board, lay the turkey steaks on the cling film so they overlap each other. Lay a second sheet of cling film over the top of the turkey steaks then, with a saucepan, bash out and flatten the turkey to make a large rectangle sheet of turkey meat. Remove the top sheet of cling film from the turkey.
In a mixing bowl, add the sausage meat and stuffing mix. Stir until the stuffing is evenly mixed.
Grate the orange zest and sprinkle some gravy granules over the top of the flattened turkey.
Place the sausage stuffing approximately 1cm from the edge of the turkey sheet, so that it’s like a long, even sausage log. This is a bit like making a sausage roll but with turkey rather than pastry. Once the sausage mix is laid out, fold the turkey around it, using the cling film to keep its cylindrical shape. Tie off the cling film ends and pop it in the fridge for 30min to 1hr to firm up. This is our turkey roll.
While the turkey roll is resting, peel and cut all your veggies. Place the carrots, potatoes and parsnips on a baking tray, drizzle with the 6tbsp vegetable oil and pop into a pre-heated oven at 190C/170C fan/gas mark 5 for 10min. This will start to cook them and heat the oil.
Take your baking tray out of the oven, toss the veggies in the hot oil again then move them to the edges of the dish, allowing room for the turkey roll.
Remove the turkey from the cling fim and lay in the middle of the baking tray. Pop in the oven for 1 hour at 1190C/170C fan/gas mark 5.
While the turkey and veggies are roasting, put 600ml of water into a saucepan and bring to the boil. With a fork, whisk in the 4tbsp gravy granules and simmer for a minute or so. This will be used to brush on to the turkey as a glaze as well.
Fifteen minutes before the 1 hour is up, brush the turkey roll with a little gravy. This will roast up nicely, giving it a lovely finish.
Pop the turkey roll back in the oven for the remaining 15min.
Place a frying pan on the stove with a little splash of oil on a medium heat.
While the pan is heating, cut your sprouts into quarters then add them to the pan and fry them off for about 2 to 3min. Don’t stir them, just let them cook through so they brown slightly. Add the sliced cabbage on top and fry both for roughly 8min.
Stir them gently to help them steam through.
When ready, simply turn off the heat and put them to the side while the turkey finishes off.
Cover the turkey with tin foil and leave it to rest for 5min.
Carve the turkey roll and serve with the spuds, veggies and loads of gravy

Boxing Day potato and veggie hash with fried egg
This Boxing Day potato and veggie hash with fried egg can serve six
    SERVES 6
    TIME: Done in 1hr 30min
    YOU NEED:

    1 kg peeled potatoes
    4 carrots, peeled
Half a packet of sage and onion stuffing
    ½ tsp salt
    5 tbsp vegetable oil
    6 eggs
Seasoning optional for the top of the eggs

    EQUIPMENT NEEDED:

Non-stick frying pan (make sure it doesn’t have a plastic handle)
    Large tray or bowl
    Box grater
    Peeler
    Tea towel
    Sharp knife

    METHOD:

Place your clean tea towel over your baking tray and grate the carrots and potatoes on the coarse side of the box grater.
Season with ½ tsp salt and massage the veg altogether.
Then leave the salted potatoes and carrots for 5 minutes – this helps draw out the moisture from the veg.
Draw up the sides of the towel, to create a bag with the mixture inside. Over the sink, squeeze the towel to drain as much liquid as possible.
Tip the veg back on to the baking tray and stir in the stuffing mix. This will act as a binding agent, making it easier for everything to stick together while cooking.
Pre-heat the oven to 190C/170C fan/gas mark 5 and place the frying pan on the hob with half of the oil.
Press the hash mix into the pan, making sure you level the mix out as much as possible.
Slowly fry the hash for around 10min, just to set the crust and par-cook.
Place the frying pan into the oven and bake for 1hr to 1½ hrs.
Once the hash is ready, place a plate on top of the frying pan and flip it over.
Once the hash is on the plate, put tin foil over the top to keep warm.
Wipe the pan clean with a little kitchen towel and place the pan back on to the hob over a medium heat. Pour in the remaining oil.
Once the oil is just hot, crack in the eggs and slowly cook for 4 to 5min, spooning the hot fat over the yolks every now and then.
When ready, cut the potato hash into six chunky wedges and serve the fried eggs on the side.
If you have any cold Turkey Roll left from yesterday, feel free to serve that with it – and maybe a good dollop of ketchup or brown sauce on the side.

F1 will host their own version of the red-light, green-light game on Sunday in Abu Dhabi in a winner-takes-all contest.
Red Bull boss Christian Horner says the scintillating finale is beyond the dream of Hollywood filmmakers – PLUS he also fired another barb at Hamilton.
He said: “The way we have fought. The way we have pushed in this campaign, no-one has come close to challenging Mercedes in the last eight years and here we are, in the final race with a shot.
“A long shot in the constructors’ championship and an equal shot with the drivers’ championship.
“We have pushed to the limit. Pushed each other and pushed our competitors and here we are at the final race for the showdown.
“It almost feels like Squid Game that we have ended up here on equal points. It is going to make compelling viewing on Sunday.”

Both drivers are level on points and have been warned by the stewards in no uncertain terms they will have points deducted – or even banned for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
They came to blows last out in Saudi Arabia to add to the high-profile crashes at Silverstone and Monza.
Verstappen was punished as a result of two flashpoints in Jeddah, not to mention the five-place grid penalty he received in Qatar for ignoring double-waved yellow flags.
To add insult to injury, Hamilton escaped with only a ticking off for the same infringement last weeked.
The Brit also labelled Verstappen a “f****** crazy guy” – with Horner suggesting his driver has been made a victim of the Mercedes PR juggernaut.

In a stinging attack the Red Bull chief added: “Lewis has a standing within the sport and what he says carries a lot of weight.
“He has used every tool available to him to put Max under pressure this year.
“He is backed up by the Mercedes media machine – a huge amount of pressure has been placed on Max.
“Max is he’s just a young lad. He’s a 24-year-old who drives with bravery, with passion, with skill and he’s up against not only Lewis but a huge machine in Mercedes-Benz.
“All credit to him the way he’s handled that pressure this year and hasn’t been drawn into it, hasn’t been sucked into it.
“As Lewis Hamilton indeed called us, we’re just an energy drinks company going racing.
“The Mercedes Formula One team have become a machine. They have the weight and power of the parent company behind them.
“I can’t believe it’s particularly comfortable being beaten by an energy drinks manufacturer!
“We’re a team of racers, we’re going racing, we’ve got a phenomenal driver who has driven his heart out this year, and it’s been intense on track and off track.
“I do think that the spotlight, even the narrative of this last week of this Mad Max scenario, calling him crazy, there’s been a very clear narrative.”
It almost feels like Squid Game that we have ended up here on equal points. It is going to make compelling viewing on Sunday.Christian Horner
Horner shared an awkward handshake with Toto Wolff in a toe-curling stunt for a televised press conference.
And while Merc boss hailed the FIA for their pre-race warning to both drivers Horner says his driver will NOT change his approach to racing.
He said: “On occasion Max has been treated harshly. I think he has come under scrutiny that we haven’t seen applied consistently with other incidents. And he feels aggrieved by that.

“The problem for Max is the scrutiny is on him. He has the spotlight positioned on him, he’s running at the front.
“He’s driven fantastically well. Max drives in a manner that ignites passion.
“It has brought fans into the sport and we do not want him to change. We want him to drive in exactly the manner that he has that has put him on the precipice of competing with Lewis for this world championship.”
Meanwhile, Hamilton topped the second session of practice here at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The reigning champion was over half a second quicker than the Red Bull man who was only fourth fastest.
Hamilton said: “It’s been a decent day, I like the changes they’ve made to the track – it’s made it free-flowing and more enjoyable.
“It’s obviously close between us all and a little unknown in terms of relative pace but I’m sure it’s going to be super close, as it has been in the previous races.
“The car doesn’t feel too bad. Now we just need to crunch through the data and try to figure out how we can improve, the target is always moving.”

Steven Gerrard should celebrate if his Aston Villa beat Liverpool… like I did when I played Birmingham, says Troy Deeney

AS Steven Gerrard heads on a sentimental journey back to Anfield with Aston Villa today, let me tell you what it’s like to play against your boyhood club. Now, even though I hadn’t played for Birmingham City at the time, everyone knew I was a  life-long Bluenose — so when I headed to St Andrews with Watford, it was special.

Troy Deeney celebrates scoring against boyhood club BirminghamCredit: Getty
I had goosebumps, there was a lump in my throat, almost a tear in my eye as childhood memories flooded back.
If I ever scored there, I’d decided there was no way I could celebrate. These people knew I was one of them, so there would surely be mutual respect.
Then, we won a corner in front of the Tilton End and before it was taken, I saw two of my old classmates sitting behind the goal.
“Alright lads!” I greeted them. “Deeney you c***!” came the charming reply. Oh it’s like that is it? I’m just another opposition player?
Five minutes later, I scored and made a point of celebrating wildly in front of my old mates.
“There you go boys, here’s the ‘See You Next Tuesday’ — have some of that!”
I scored a few times at St Andrews over the years and I never toned it down.
Now, I’m pretty sure nobody on The Kop is going to be calling Stevie G a ‘c***’ today!

I saw an interview with Gerrard where he said that when Villa go back to Liverpool it won’t be all about him and that he will be going there to get a result, which is exactly what his players will want to hear.
But whatever he says, today will be special for Gerrard.
He’s not just a boyhood fan but a man who spent virtually the whole of his playing career at Liverpool and lifted the European Cup as captain, among many other trophies.
He will see Anfield from a different perspective, in the away dressing-room for the first time, and he will see lots of staff who were there during his playing days, with each and every one welcoming him as a legend.
Playing at Liverpool is mustard, even if you have no connection with the club.Walking under that ‘This Is Anfield’ sign and hearing the noise of that crowd. You always look forward to that fixture.
I am sure Gerrard will be given a rousing reception. I hope he can applaud all four sides of the ground, before or after they sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.And then once it starts, he will be ultra-professional.
Steven Gerrard has banned ketchup and puddings in the canteen as he overhauls VillaCredit: Getty
Had he ever gone back to Anfield as an opposition player and scored, I bet he wouldn’t have celebrated.
I reckon he will do, if Villa score and especially if they get a result.
He will know Villa are facing one of the best teams in the world. With so many attacking players in form, they are capable of overwhelming anybody.
But keep it tight for 20 or 30 minutes and Villa know they have a chance.I believe Gerrard is going to be an absolute top-class manager and he has made an impressive start at Villa — three wins out of four and running champions Manchester City seriously close in the one game they lost.
Nobody is talking about them missing Jack Grealish any more. Gerrard has changed the narrative.
I have heard from some Villa players that they have been very impressed with him from the word go. But I tell you one thing, whatever positive changes Gerrard has made, it will have nothing to do with the absence of ketchup from the players’ canteen!
Apparently Gerrard has banned ketchup and puddings. And it was the same when Antonio Conte arrived at Tottenham.
These stories always make me laugh. It’s the same at any club. When you’re winning, you can eat whatever you like.
When you’re losing or when there’s a new manager, it’s ‘no sauce, no chocolate, no sweets’.
Ask any player to name the first thing that happens when a new manager comes in and they will tell you the same thing.
He will have a new fitness coach, who will immediately tell you all that you are not fit enough and that you are a kilo or so overweight.
And this bloke will always be more of a badass than the last one. He will always have re- invented the wheel.

It’s quite insulting really. As if you haven’t been working hard and looking after yourself under the previous regime.
I reckon 99.5 per cent of Premier League footballers are in very good nick.Hardly any will have more than ten per cent body fat.
Some prefer a caffeine hit but most of us are sugar addicts. After a match, a training session or the gym, we all want our sugar rush — be it ketchup, chocolate or sweets.
Our lives are so regimented that we are always waiting for a minor release, a little treat. And that can be something as simple as a bit of ketchup.
English players are usually worse than the overseas lads. I’ve seen foreign players turn their nose up in disgust at the sight of brown sauce!
There’s one senior pro at Watford who has tubs of ketchup smuggled into him in the team hotel.
Gerrard will be hoping to continue his good start as Aston Villa bossCredit: Rex
And if players can’t get their sugar fix at the training ground, they will be stopping off at the nearest petrol station for their hit.
Gerrard, 41, has done a lot right already at Villa and they will laud him in the away end today, just as they will on The Kop.
And if his team get a result, nobody will be worried if they have sauce on their post-match burgers.
Man City bring Steven Gerrard’s perfect start to an end with a 1-2 victory More

The grandad then suffered a back injury which he recovered from, only to develop a chest infection.
He fought off that illness but now believes it would be a step too far to make a full comeback after a two-year break — though he will have a farewell friendly.
Dickie, who plays on the wing or up front, said: “I think it would probably be too much of a struggle to play again, especially in cold weather. It is time to pack it in.
“I’ve had a good run. I’ve still got the urge to get out there and kick the ball around but if you can’t do it, you can’t do it.”
Dickie, who beat prostate cancer nearly ten years ago, reckons he has appeared in more than 1,600 matches and scored around 400 goals.
He last played for local veterans team AFC Wyke Smugglers in December 2019, when he was aged 83.
The retired engineer, who started playing football at age seven while living in Scotland, added: “I wouldn’t do walking football.
“I’m used to playing the whole 90 minutes at full pelt.
“I still want to play the game properly.”
Dickie, of Weymouth, Dorset, who will arrange an over-50s farewell match once the weather gets warmer, puts his longevity down to quitting his 30-a-day smoking habit 40 years ago, drinking tea and eating a bowl of porridge before games.

Scoring goals is better than sex and Leicester’s win in FA Cup final was better than any orgasm, says Gary Lineker

FOOTBALL legend Gary Lineker reckons scoring on the pitch is better than off — and the thrill lasts longer. The former Spurs star, who netted 48 times for England, also claimed a goal he watched gave him the ultimate pleasure.

The 61-year-old, who hung up his boots in 1992, said: “The only thing you can never replace is the scoring of a big goal.
“Scoring a goal…people use that silly thing, ‘Oh is it better than sex?’ You can’t have it any time you want but you can kind of know you’re going to have sex at some point. Whereas you don’t know if you’re ever going to score again.”
Gary, now a veteran pundit, said watching his beloved boyhood club triumph at Wembley in May last year beat nookie hands down.

Premier League ace Wilfried Zaha caught up in alleged rental scam

FOOTIE ace Wilfried Zaha is caught up in an alleged rental scam. The Crystal Palace star was involved in a business which appears to have illegally sub-let flats — leaving tenants to face eviction.

Sources close to Zaha, 29, say he was unaware.
His fellow ZO Properties director Obinna Ogbonna, who allegedly got him involved, has vanished.
The suspected scam involves at least seven flats leased by ZO in a block in Maida Vale, West London.
The business sub-let the properties without consent, collected rent but allegedly did not pass it on to the owners.
Sophie Howkins, 29, and flatmate Christie Stevens, 28, have been told to leave despite paying £20,000 to ZO since January.
Accounts manager Sophie said: “ZO have all of our money and I have been told by the people who actually own the flat that the money hasn’t been passed on to them. I can’t sleep. We have no idea who to turn to.”

Zaha, who played in the 1-0 defeat at Man United yesterday, resigned as a ZO director about 16 weeks ago.
His spokesman said the star was urgently investigating. A notice to dissolve ZO was issued in October.
Colombia Group, which manages the rentals for owner Luiz Properties, said: “We’d expect a group letting like this to be for a company to put up staff but that hasn’t been the case.
“They have been sub-let and we need to work on this.“
