Mum Claire Foden, 41, appeared to push one of the men, who responded by throwing a punch.
A melee ensued, during which Phil could be seen trying to protect her at the Manchester Arena.
Police said no complaints had been made but they were “conducting some further inquiries”.
A source said one of the men who abused Foden had a Liverpool accent, while another group from Bradford repeatedly swore at him.
The trouble flared after Saturday’s sixth-round triumph for Brook.

“Arguments, scuffles and a lot of fouling is commonplace.
“I’m sure there will be a few opposition players that want to leave a mark on him.”
Carlos has not played professionally for six years and Liam is hoping there is still room for both of them on the pitch.
He said: “No doubt he will be a fantastic asset to the team.
“To have that level of experience and technical ability, I’ll be looking to play off him as much as possible, knowing if I make that lung-busting run he can find me.
“I’ll be fulfilled if we can exchange some quality interplay down the flank and set up — or dare I say score in a dream scenario — a goal at the end of it.”
‘HE OWES ME ONE’
Liam’s team is named after his local boozer and he hopes to get Carlos down there for a few post-match cold ones.
He joked: “His pockets are deeper than mine, but I’ll get him one so I can say he owes me one.”
The date of the match has not yet been confirmed.
The eBay raffle also saw England Lionesses ace Eni Aluko, 35, paired with Sussex Sunday League team Pevensey and Westham FC for a one-off game.

Barkley, 28, was spotted using his mobile phone at the wheel of his £150,000 Mercedes-AMG in Wandsworth, South West London, last July. 
The Scouser, who has played for England 33 times, scoring six goals, pleaded guilty to a charge of using a handheld mobile phone while driving a vehicle.
The £84,000-a-week star will appear at Bromley magistrates’ court in South East London next month after totting up enough points to face a ban.
A source claimed he has already made preparations to be taken to and from training. They said: “He’s worried a ban is coming. A driver has been brought in to help.
“He loves the vehicle so he’ll be gutted, but he’s had plenty of warnings over the years and he’s now totted up enough points for a ban. 
“Even someone on his wage would find a driving ban incredibly annoying. He could certainly do without it, although any fine and costs isn’t going to set him back too much on his wages.”
In 2013, while playing for Everton, he was fined £650 and handed six penalty points for doing 50mph in a 30mph road in Liverpool.
