West Ham defender Cresswell — compared to a squirrel by former teammate Mark Noble — got permission in February last year to demolish an existing property and build a six-bed pad with cinema, garden pavilion and playground.
But the rural plot in Formby, Merseyside, is next to a National Trust red squirrel refuge.
And it is illegal under the Wildlife and Countryside Act to disturb them.
Cameras caught squirrels near a potential nest, halting work until after the breeding season.

Red squirrel populations have declined massively in recent decades as they have been replaced by larger grey squirrels.
The species can only now be found in parts of northern England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Cresswell, 33, plans a sedum plants roof to boost biodiversity and a hedgehog home in his garden.
Documents filed at the local council reveal Cresswell originally bought the property for £1.1million three years ago but it remained vacant while he lived in London.

The Met Police said: “On Thursday, September 23, 2021, the Met received a crime report regarding an historic rape allegation.
“On Monday, June 12, a man was interviewed under caution at a police station.’’
The Sun is unable to identify the man for legal reasons. It is understood he denies the rape claim.
One source told The Sun: “He is shocked by the allegation and totally refutes it.”

The accused man is said to have met the complainant when she applied to work for an organisation he was involved with at the time.
The source stressed it had no connection to the Premier League club the man is currently involved with.
They added: “The allegation goes back quite a few years when the complainant met the suspect after she applied for a job at a place he was involved with.
“She was a teenage girl at the time and is now a mature woman.”
Former Met Det Supt Michael Hames, a specialist sex crimes investigator, said: “With historic complaints in general, you lose potential evidence which could have been obtained earlier.
“Very often it becomes one person’s word against another’s.” More

Kyle Walker at centre of WAG feud as mothers of his kids clash with ex Lauryn Goodman blasting his wife ‘cruel & nasty’

A WAG war has erupted between the mothers of England footballer Kyle Walker’s kids — with his ex branding his wife “cruel, vindictive and nasty”.Former partner Lauryn Goodman shared a photo of son Kairo, three, in a Man City shirt bearing his number 2 after the team’s treble triumph.

The influencer, 32 — who fell pregnant with Kairo during a brief relationship with Kyle — wrote: “2023 what a special year, history made. I understand we have skipped a few chapters here…@kairowalker always supporting.
Wife Annie, 30, hit back with pictures of her with Kyle and their three boys — Riaan, Roman and Reign — on the pitch after the Champions League Final win over Inter Milan in Istanbul.
She captioned her photo: “3 is the magic number.”
Then said: “Winning the champions league with Your daddy. All these memories you get to have with your daddy.

“Nothing and no one will ever take that from you. We’ve got you 3.”
Last night furious Lauryn told The Sun on Sunday: “I have had enough of this nastiness, it has been going on too long.
“Kairo has done nothing wrong and Annie cannot eradicate him from existence. He is Kyle Walker’s son.
“He doesn’t just have three sons. Annie needs to accept that.

“You hear the phrase ‘Wicked Stepmother’ in fairytales but you don’t think this will happen in real life.
“Families come in all shapes and sizes these days, stepchildren, estranged children.
“It is the job of the parents to act like adults and do the best for them, that’s what I try to do.
“Annie, if you are reading this, just stop being so cruel to Kairo because our little boy has done nothing wrong and doesn’t deserve to have you so vindictively making digs at him and treating him like an outcast.
“When Annie got back with Kyle she knew I was pregnant.
“If she couldn’t handle the fact he was going to have another child she should never have got back with him.
“Annie needs to talk to someone if she still has issues over Kyle being Kairo’s dad, instead of being so venomous to our child. She is taking it out on Kairo instead of Kyle.
“You can’t sweep Kairo under the carpet, our son is not a dirty secret.”

After Annie posted her photo last Saturday, Lauryn’s backers showed their support.
One described Annie as “vile” and saying she “should know better”.
Lauryn also posted Kairo’s birth certificate.
Last night she said: “I shared the birth certificate because I am so sick of him being erased as Kyle’s son.
“I wanted to show it there, in black and white on the paperwork.
“I am not hugely proud of stooping to that level, but I have to defend our son however I can.
“There are more than three children who call Kyle daddy — our son does too.
“Annie seems to want to photoshop Kairo out of existence.
“Obviously I understand why she doesn’t want to actually talk about him, but there is no need for the digs.
“She is always writing that Kyle has three sons — but Kairo exists, that makes four sons.
“If she talked about ‘her’ children with Kyle, instead of giving a number, then I wouldn’t be speaking out. But I am sick of it.
“This week was the final straw. It was so nasty. Saying ‘Your daddy’. He is Kairo’s daddy too, he always will be, whether she likes it or not.
“None of Kyle’s children deserve this. If Annie hates me, then fine, but don’t hate our innocent son.”
Annie and £150,000-a-week Kyle, 33, have been together since they were teenagers.
But they split in 2019 after reality star Laura Brown revealed she’d romped with him in his £200,000 Bentley.
He moved out of the £3.5million family home in Cheshire and grew close to ex-Towie star Lauryn.
She fell pregnant and Kairo was born in April 2020.
Kyle and Annie then rekindled and got married in November 2021, after Kyle proposed to her with a £250,000 ring.
Lauryn, who is now pregnant with a daughter but has not revealed the name of the father, said: “The cruelty towards Kairo has gone on for years.
“During the World Cup I was getting sent Annie’s social media posts from people saying how shocking they were.
“In one she posted a picture of Kyle and her three boys saying, ‘Daddy’s three lions’. But people were defending Kairo saying, ‘He has more than three’.
“I let it slide, I thought, ‘Whatever, just leave it’. But this latest attack is beyond ridiculous.”
Lauryn, who lives in Hove, East Sussex, calls Kairo her “little miracle”.
She believed she’d never be able to conceive naturally because she suffers from endometriosis and polycystic ovaries.
She said: “I will do all I can to make him feel secure and loved.
“Kairo knows who his daddy is and he knows that he won last week. I didn’t let her dampen our celebrations at home.
“I want Kairo to be proud of who his daddy is.  I don’t want him to be abused over it.
“Annie needs to stop being so nasty and cruel to her husband’s son.”
Kyle was blasted earlier this year after CCTV footage showed him exposing himself at a bar.
He was quizzed for indecent exposure but later dealt with for being drunk and disorderly and given an out-of-court disposal which does not form a part of a criminal record.
He spent last week celebrating City’s treble win before joining the England squad for this weekend’s Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Lauryn admitted she was pleased with how Kyle spoke about his family after the Champions League win.

Pundit Rio Ferdinand discussed how Kyle’s eldest kids were on the pitch and old enough to soak up the atmosphere.
Lauryn said: “But instead of even mentioning his children, Kyle deflected the conversation to the fact his mum and dad were in the stand and how grateful he was to them. I respect Kyle for that.”

Inside Man City ace Jack Grealish’s rise from lad with footballing dream to perfect man who’s hit with ladies & lads

FLOWING locks, sensational body and a love for a cold beer . . . I think I’ve developed a new crush, in an unlikely spot. The surprise entry at the top of my list of affections is Jack Grealish, the superstar midfielder who was shirtless and clutching a cold pint as he led Manchester City’s victory parade this week.

Jack has no airs or graces, he’s no media-trained robot and he is not afraid to tell it how it isCredit: Getty
Successful, carefree, the life and soul of the party — and a clearly decent bloke to boot.
I want to be his mate, I want his looks and I want to be just like him.
And it’s not just me who’s been won over by headband-wearing Jack in recent days.
He’s now safely entered “girls want to sleep with him, men want to go for a pint with him” territory, placing him in an exclusive clique at the very top of the showbiz stratosphere alongside A-list actors Ryan Reynolds, Brad Pitt and Tom Hardy.

Jack’s big appeal is he seems just like a normal 27-year-old lad who’s living the dream, playing football at elite level and enjoying every minute.
He has no airs or graces, he’s no media-trained robot and he is not afraid to tell it how it is.
Indeed, he’s still exactly the same lad — except with bigger calves — who grew up in Bromsgrove, Worcs, dreaming of becoming a footballer.
His legs have become such an object of desire they even have their own Instagram profile, with tens of thousands of devoted followers.

And he’s a family man too. He remains close to his parents, cares deeply for his disabled sister Hollie, 19, who has cerebral palsy, and racks up the charity work, having recently been named a principal ambassador for Special Olympics GB.
On paper, he’s the perfect man, a hit with the ladies — including a fling with pin-up Inbetweeners actress Emily Atack in 2021 — and has model girlfriend Sasha Attwood, 27, cheering from the sidelines when he plays.
Jack’s partying after Manchester City clinched the Treble will go down as the stuff of legend — and certainly provided more entertainment than his side’s scruffy 1-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul, Turkey, on Saturday night.
He started the celebrations on the pitch as his team-mates lifted the trophy.
Then he was snapped inside the dressing room downing booze and leading a rendition of Manchester anthem Don’t Look Back In Anger, by Oasis.

Jack remains close to his parents, cares deeply for his disabled sister Hollie, 19, who has cerebral palsy
He remained in his team kit hours after the final whistle, while his team-mates changed into partying threads, and was still in his jersey when filmed singing fan chant “Have you ever won the Treble?” at 6am on Sunday morning.
After finally making it back to his team hotel he was pictured again popping his head out of a skylight of the team coach as the Treble winners headed for the airport to catch a flight back to Manchester, where he was then pictured lying down cradling the Champions League trophy next to team-mate Bernardo Silva.
His airport pint was still cold as Jack and some of his team-mates jetted off on another European adventure, this time to Ibiza for a nine-hour bender, landing on the White Isle at 11.59pm on Sunday.
After finally removing his team jersey, Jack was snapped in a Hawaiian shirt as he headed to megaclub Pacha until sunrise.
Hours later he was pictured being held up by team-mate Kyle Walker as they left their hotel, and was offered the loan of a wheelchair at the airport ahead of their return to Manchester for City’s open-top bus party.
Even the downpours back on home turf didn’t rain on Jack’s parade as his boozing continued and team-mates poured champagne over his head.
Drenched, he removed his soaked shirt, setting up for the now iconic picture of him topless and stretching his arms out, which could have been mistaken for a Calvin Klein advert.
    Knuckled down
No matter that he was scheduled to meet up with the England squad last night for the next round of international clashes.
Surely even England manager Gareth Southgate, football’s straight-laced head boy, will forgive him.
Jack says these past few days have been the best of his life, and he’s had the class to thank his club manager, Pep Guardiola, who turned him into a world-class performer.
Following his British-record move from Aston Villa in the summer of 2021, Jack struggled to hold down a starting berth with Man City, initially sparking talk he’d become a £100million flop.
Yet despite his love of partying, he’s knuckled down and learned Pep’s ethos — and was rewarded with an extended run in the team this season. And he hasn’t looked back, becoming a pivotal player in this all-conquering City side.

Speaking after securing the Treble on Saturday night, Jack said of Pep: “He’s a genius, isn’t he? I just went and said to him, ‘You’ve made this happen for me’. He put so much faith in me, buying me for a lot of money.
“Even last year, when I was playing cr*p, he stuck with me and spoke to me. And now he’s given me this platform to perform and I just said thank you to him.”
Holding back tears, he also thanked his family, adding: “This is just what you work for your whole life. I am so happy, man.
“I was awful today. I don’t care. To win the Treble with this group of players is so special.
“Anyone who knows me knows how much of a family person I am and how much I love football, and this is my whole life.
“You think of all the people who have helped you along the way and I saw my family in the crowd, and it just made me emotional.”
English football has provided many mavericks in recent years, including Wayne Rooney, David Beckham and Paul Gascoigne.
The latter is the player Jack is most commonly compared to, as he is also a good dribbler who takes players on in dangerous areas.Gazza won the hearts of the nation following his exploits at Italia ’90.
But unlike Jack, he had a troubled side and well-publicised controversies — including being accused of attacking then-wife Sheryl — leading to a loss of big endorsement deals and withdrawal of support from the public

But if Jack continues to keep on the straight and narrow, and playing with a smile on his face, his popularity will certainly outlast the other booze-loving England star — and he’ll become his generation’s talented talisman.

It has been a long wait, but Manchester City are really there after Champion’s League win

“WE’RE not really here.” That old City chant from the 1980s was never more true than in the Atatürk Olympic stadium on Saturday night.Surreal and unreal. As Ilkay Gundogan scaled the ad boards and bowled towards us with that huge iconic trophy, I couldn’t quite believe this was happening.
Triumphant Man City players lift the Champions League trophyCredit: Reuters
And neither could all the laughing, crying, emotionally wrecked fans around me.
Earlier, at the fan park by the stadium, miles out on the edge of this gigantic, teeming city, a place with the weight of all human civilisation on its shoulders, 20,000 lads and lasses from Manchester and beyond partied in the sun.
Tales of tortuous journeys abounded, of three-hour queues for free buses, of madly expensive taxi rides.
But the overwhelming feeling was: Was this whole thing real?

As a City fan since 1969, when as a seven-year-old I watched them win the FA Cup on the first colour TV I’d ever seen, this, for 40 years of my life, was an impossibility.
For 20 years in the ’90s and noughties, we were rubbish.
With the piled-on pain of Man U’s successes.
Of course, since we became rich in 2008 then, seven years ago, got the best manager the game has ever seen, hope and expectation has grown season by season.

Old fans like me were delirious with an FA Cup, and then, a couple of Prem titles.
But, Champions League? You’re having a laugh.
At this new-found highest level we were still Typical City, as several painful exits proved.
    Saturday night ended that.
Back to the city on the brilliant all-night metro, we celebrated till the sun came up.
A narrow cobbled alley of bars just off Istiklal Street, Istanbul’s Oxford Street, became City, Champions of Europe Boulevard.
Grown men mimicked flicking monkeys off their backs.
There was champagne and £1 cigars, strong beer and kebabs, flags and flares, banners and anthems, pledges of European Cup tattoos with ‘Istanbul 10.6.23’, like people do for the birth of a child.
    And we were really there.
