    David Baddiel reveals tiny amount Three Lions song makes on Spotify despite millions of streams

    DAVID Baddiel says he got just 0.003p a time from Spotify for footie anthem Three Lions during the 2018 World Cup.The comedian and writer admitted he did well out of the song when it was first released for the 1996 Euros.

    But he said he, Frank Skinner and band The Lightning Seeds have seen little in the way of royalties since the rise of Spotify and other online  services.
    Asked what the record had brought him apart from greater fame, Baddiel said: “Not money, for a start.
    “It brought me, Frank and Ian Broudie of The Lightning Seeds a fair wedge.
    “But not since Spotify took over has it brought us much money. In fact, when England played Colombia in the 2018 World Cup, it was downloaded four ­million times — for which Frank, Ian and I received £1,200 from Spotify.”

    He added that, despite the huge success of the song in the Nineties, he and his wife Morwenna Banks have never flashed their money around.
    He told the Comfort Eating podcast: “It (Three Lions) came out in 1996, and it went platinum in 1996 – just to be clear we’ve done OK.”
    He added: “Let me tell you something that just happened today. Because I am from sort of lower middle-class immigrant stock, and I’ve done alright in my life, but I find it quite hard, as does my wife Morwenna Banks, who is from rural poverty in Cornwall, to actually flex anything.
    “Yesterday, two towels arrived, that have a high thread count that were quite fluffy. And that’s because we sat there the other day, having got out the bath, saying ‘Why are we drying ourselves with these rags – surely we can do better that this?’

      Barcelona UNABLE to rebuild Nou Camp yet despite already demolishing iconic football stadium

      The stadium’s demolition is already complete with the third tier completely torn down and the visor that covered one side of the field and gave shelter to fans from the sun has been removed.
      According to Sport, however, the Blaugrana have yet to secure the necessary permit that will allow them to start rebuilding.
      The Catalan giants are rigorously working towards a resolution with Barcelona’s City Council
      The Spanish champions are confident a resolution will be reached before the next general assembly scheduled to take place on October 21.

      The Nou Camp’s demolition was completed much faster than the club expected.
      However, Barcelona’s City Council warned the rebuilding process would be slow.
      That is because new president Joan Laporta’s board of directors had modified the initial plan approved by the previous board under his predecessor Josep Maria Bartomeu.
      But the club is confident Xavi’s side will play their first game at the new Spotify Camp Nou on November 2024, but with limited capacity in the initial stages.

      Until then, the Catalans will continue playing their home games at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
      The redevelopment is expected to cost Barcelona a staggering £1.25billion.
      The capacity will be expanded from 99,354 seats to 105,000, increasing its gap as the largest football ground in Europe – with second place Wembley having a 90,000 capacity.
      It will also see a roof added alongside a stadium rename in line with the club’s £237million sponsorship deal with Spotify. More

      Their iconic home’s £1.2billion makeover will begin this June.
      The Blaugrana will continue to play at the Nou Camp next season while renovations take place in their first and second tiers – but their third tier will be demolished next summer and the stadium will be unusable for a year.
      The Catalan giants will return to their 99,354-capacity stadium for the 2024-2025 campaign, though at a reduced 50 per cent capacity.
      The remodelling is expected to be completed in full by the 2025-2026 season with an improved capacity of 105,000.

      Barcelona confirmed last month their iconic ground will be renamed the Spotify Nou Camp come next season, after securing a £237million sponsorship deal.
      Club president Joan Laporta said at the Barcelona City Hall that the works will cost no more than £1.2bn.
      A statement from Barcelona read: “Renovation work on the Camp Nou, the epicenter of the Espai Barca, will begin this June, just after the end of the sports season, and in accordance with the building permit approved this morning by the City Council’s Government Commission.
      “The work will focus on the first and second tier, in the technological field, in the environment of the Stadium, and in the urban development outside.
