Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr fight contract clause means $100k FINE for every pound over 157lb catchweight limit

CONOR BENN and Chris Eubank Jr face a $100,000 FINE for every pound they weigh in over the 157lb catchweight limit. The pair are set for a sensational fight for the ages on October 8, almost 30 years after their dads’ famous rematch.

The bout is believed to be set at 157lb, meaning Benn will have to jump up 10lb from his usual 147lb weight class.
Eubank Jr on the other hand is a career middleweight at 160lb, who has even campaigned as high as 168lb.
The weight disparity has meant the two will meet between the 154lb light-middleweight and middleweight limit.
And due to Eubank’s superior size, a rehydration clause limiting what he can weigh the next morning is also understood to be in place.

According to Dan Rafael, both boxers face losing $100,000 (£81k) of their purse if they were to come even 1lb above the agreement.
A similar clause was put into the Kell Brook’s contract before he beat Amir Khan at a 149lb catchweight in February.
Eubank Jr, 31, and Benn, 25, both campaigned to fight Brook after but the ex-welterweight champion retired following his win over Khan.
Benn has continued to climb the welterweight rankings to build on a first world title shot.

Eubank Jr meanwhile has grown increasingly frustrated at his lack of championship opportunities.
So he turned his attention to Benn following their fathers’ iconic fights in the 1990s.
Eubank Sr won the first epic battle against arch nemesis Nigel, before they drew three years later in 1993.
A trilogy failed to materialise, leaving their prizefighter sons to renew the rivalry over three decades later.
Eubank Jr said: “It’s a fight that’s going to spark the imagination of the British public, that’s what I’m happy about.
“In terms of anticipation, legacy and hype it’s the biggest fight of my career.”
Benn added: “This fight is for the legacy and was an opportunity I felt I couldn’t pass up.”

Anthony Joshua running through streets of Saudi at night as Brit gets used to conditions ahead of Usyk rematch fight

ANTHONY JOSHUA is in the final stages of his road to redemption against Oleksandr Usyk, as he tapers down his training camp. Joshua was beaten at Tottenham’s stadium in London last September over 12 rounds by Usyk, surrendering the unified titles.

But AJ is just one week away from rematching the unbeaten Ukrainian in Saudi Arabia, where he bids to win back his belts.
Joshua, 32, travelled out to the Middle East with over a month to spare until the huge heavyweight title fight.
It would have given him time to accustom to the heat and conditions.
He posted a picture on Instagram while on a jog, with the caption: “Road rage.”

Usyk, 35, meanwhile took his preparations to Dubai, where he recently linked up with ex-British world champion Amir Khan, 35.
When asked if he was ready for battle, Usyk growled: “I was born ready”.
Joshua switched up his training team entirely, replacing long-time coach Rob McCracken with American Robert Garcia.
And he completed much of his camp at assistant trainer Angel Fernandez’s base in Loughborough.

But the change of scenery failed to faze Usyk, who told Parimatch: “Anthony Joshua is a strong guy and a strong boxer, and he cannot be written off in any way.
“In the rematch, he will be different. He will prepare differently. I will do that too.”
Usyk added: “I am confident in what I am doing and that I do my job to the fullest. But to be 100 per cent sure about something like that?
“I don’t know. But I know what I do. I work, I box, and victory is given by the Lord.”

Tyson Fury’s former trainer SugarHill Steward sends Brit message after being replaced for Derek Chisora trilogy fight

TYSON FURY has been sarcastically wished well by his trainer Sugarhill Steward after announcing Isaac Lowe as his new coach. Fury, who is notorious for trying to fool the public and press, claimed he was coming out of retirement to complete a trilogy with Derek Chisora.

And he even said featherweight Lowe, 28, would be his trainer for the unlikely bout.
After making the announcement, his current and possibly now former cornerman SugarHill commented: “Good luck with that.”
The American mastermind, nephew to the great Emanuel, first linked up with Fury in 2020 before rematching Deontay Wilder.
Wilder, 36, was beaten in seven rounds and then knocked out after 11 in his October 2021 trilogy classic with Fury, 33.

The Gypsy King continued his success with SugarHill in April by knocking out Dillian Whyte, 34, at Wembley.
But he announced his retirement from boxing shortly after – although it appears to have lasted just four months.
Several believed Fury would return, but to fight the winner between Oleksandr Usyk, 35, and Anthony Joshua, 32, who rematch next Saturday.
But if the WBC champion is to be believed, his comeback will be against Chisora, 38, who he already beat in 2011 and 2014.

The fight is targeted for December in Wales, where Joshua has twice headlined, according to ESPN.
And it is claimed Goldstar Promotions – the company that handles Fury’s meet-and-greets across the UK – are behind the offer.
That is despite Hall of Fame pair Frank Warren and Bob Arum leading the WBC champion’s career in recent years.
Although Arum has spoken out to say he is not involved in the talks and poured cold water on the fight entirely.
He told Fight Freaks Unite: “Of course not. Nothing. What are we, crazy?
“Everybody is waiting for the fight to happen a week from Saturday and then we’ll explore whether it’s feasible to do a fight for the complete unification.

Towards the closing stages of the 12th and final round, an exhausted AJ only just about escaped on his feet to hear the bell.
Ahead of their rematch on August 20 in Saudi Arabia, Usyk claimed he was just moments away from flooring Joshua.
He told Parimatch: “Perhaps if there were another 30 seconds or another minute in the 12th round, Anthony would have been knocked down.
“But I don’t think about it any more because it’s just guessing. It happened as it happened. I boxed 12 rounds and I won.”

Joshua, 32, has moved training camps since the loss, replacing long-time coach Rob McCracken with American Robert Garcia.
AJ completed much of his camp as assistant trainer Angel Fernandez’s base in Loughborough.
Joshua then flew over to Saudi a month before the fight of his life, while Usyk situated himself in Dubai.
The current champion said: “Anthony Joshua is a strong guy and a strong boxer, and he cannot be written off in any way.

‘What are we, crazy?’ – Tyson Fury’s promoter Bob Arum reveals why he is NOT leading talks for Derek Chisora trilogy

BOB ARUM has confirmed he is not leading talks for Tyson Fury’s trilogy bout with Derek Chisora. Fury claimed he was ending retirement – after four months – to fight Chisora for a third time, despite his 2011 and 2014 wins.

And Fury, 33, has been linked with challenging the winner in what would be a historic, first-ever four-belt heavyweight unification.
And Arum insisted if Fury is to make a return to the ring, it will be against either Usyk or AJ, not 38-year-old Chisora.
He said: “The truth is that he gets up in the morning and he figures how he can best stir up s*** and that’s what he does.
“You think Isaac takes it seriously? Of course not, for Christ sake. (Fury) is just having fun. It’s his idea of fun.
“He’s getting a little antsy as we all are because we’re waiting.
“If Usyk wins then there’s one path to take because then everybody is close and friendly and if Joshua wins then we’ve got to deal with (Joshua promoter) Eddie (Hearn) and all that stuff.”

‘It’s going to slow him down’ – Oleksandr Usyk warned over dramatic body transformation ahead of Anthony Joshua rematch

OLEKSANDR USYK has been warned against piling on the pounds for his rematch with Anthony Joshua. The Ukrainian outclassed AJ over 12 rounds last September after weighing in at 15st 11lb.
Oleksandr Usyk looks beefy in training camp for Anthony JoshuaCredit: INSTAGRAM
But in recent training material, ahead of their second fight on August 20 in Saudi Arabia, Usyk appears to have bulked up.
According to trainer Dave Coldwell, who coached Tony Bellew against the heavyweight champion, this is the wrong approach to take.
Coldwell told The Express: “From an Usyk point of view, I get that he is going to be more aggressive and look to land bigger shots but with his mobility and speed being his two greatest assets they will take a hit.
“It’s going to slow him down, if you’re losing speed, you’re giving more options to be hit and not only that I believe that AJ really needs to focus on going to Usyk’s body to take away his legs.
    READ MORE SUN STORIES
“Now, if that is what he’s going for and he’s looking at landing to the body then if you put on manufactured weight and muscle mass, then when you’re getting banged downstairs to the body you tend to gas a little quicker.
“We always look at AJ and say ‘he’s too big, he’s too bulky’ and that’s why he gasses out quicker and so if you land a few body shots on him he tends to gas quicker.
“Not just AJ, but in general a lot of fighters that have that high muscle density.
“But you don’t know how old that video clip is, I’ve got stuff on my camera roll of my boxers in the early days of camp which I could put out and people would say, ‘Wow, that’s him now?’

“And it’s not, so you have to take things with a pinch of salt but if that’s right now then it’s almost another twist and turn in the analysis of this fight.”
Joshua, 32, has replaced long-time cornerman Rob McCracken with American mastermind Robert Garcia.
