Heartbreaking story behind Chris Eubank Sr’s journey to world champion as he admits ‘my brothers despised me’

CHRIS EUBANK SR has opened up on the heartbreaking reason behind his rise to the very top of boxing.Senior, 58, is vehemently against son Chris Junior’s showdown with Conor Benn on Saturday night.Chris Eubank Sr outlined his heartbreaking journey to becoming world championEubank Sr wanted to become world champion to gain his elder brothers’ respectEubank Jr and Benn face off at the final press conference ahead of Saturday’s fightCredit: GettyEubank’s brother Simon, with his boxer son Harlem as a toddlerEubank started boxing to get the respect of his brothersThe British boxing legend maintains the fight should not happen, insisting his son dropping down to 160lbs is “dangerous”.The former two-weight world champion fears his 35-year-old lad’s weight drop risks the same damage that left his older brother Simon paying the ultimate price for a career in boxing.Simon lost 20 brutal fights, 11 of them by stoppage, before his tragic death in September 2023.In an exclusive interview with SunSport, Senior has now told the heartbreaking story behind his own journey into boxing.Read More on BoxingHe reveals the sole reason he took up the sport in the first place was to gain respect from his elder brothers Peter and Simon. He says: “Boxing became important to me because it was the way in which I was going to win the respect of my brothers.”That’s the reason why it was important to me. Because I could do everything else.”My brothers used to give me a really hard time, beyond what I can actually express to you. And they were doing this because I was intelligent. Most read in Boxing”And this is why I got my bottom roasted by them all the time.”He added: “I loved my brothers, and they despised me. I couldn’t work it out then. Why?Chris Eubank Sr astonishingly says his son’s boxing licence should be ‘REVOKED’ after slapping Conor Benn with an egg”To one I was a fool, to the other I was an idiot, and to one, he didn’t even speak to me.”That was the most brutal of psychological beatings, when someone ignores you.”I’m talking about you’re in the room and never spoke to me. Never spoke to me.”One day I’m going to cry about that, because I’m getting close to that.”Both Peter and Simon were boxers, and it was aged 14 that Senior decided he would follow suit.He had endured a tough upbringing, and was suspended 18 times in one year from his secondary school in Peckham, claiming he was trying to protect his classmates from bullies.Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor BennTHE countdown is ON to one of the biggest boxing events of the 21st CenturyFamilial tension and a rivalry that has been brewing for years will finally be resolved when Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn meet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night. There has been huge drama in the build-up with the pair engaged in a war of words and multiple clashes in person.SunSport will have full coverage of the blockbuster clash all week and LIVE round-by-round coverage of every fight on a stacked undercard.Latest NewsAll the infoEarning respectAt 14, Senior decided he would step into the ring and give boxing his best shot – whether he was any good or not.He recalls: “At 14, I’m saying to myself, even if I’m no good at boxing, they’re going to respect me because it takes so much courage to get into the ring and box.”I was standing on a table in a home in North Wales in a place called Llangollen, and I was dancing in the mirror.”At 14 years old, you know, you’ve got all that energy, and I was looking in the mirror like, you know what, I’m going to be a fighter.”He decided he would be world champion. And he stuck to his word.Ten years later, 24-year-old Senior beat Nigel Benn to win the WBO Middleweight Championship.Reaching the topSenior continues: “When I fought Benn on the 18th of November, 1990, I won their respect that particular night.”He admits his brothers were “never” kind to him, but ultimately it acted as the driving force behind his rise to boxing royalty. He recalls: “Brother, you are a really serious tosspot. That’s what I got from them.”But all of this has done nothing but drive me to be better and better and better.”Despite the complex relationship he had with the pair, Senior still holds an enormous place in his heart for his two brothers.Speaking at the time of Simon’s death, Senior told SunSport: “Simon saved my life once. He is the one who truly loved me and that is why I recited Corinthians 1:13 at his funeral.’Love is most powerful’“It talks about how love is the most powerful of all things, and I recited that for him and for what he did for me.“In many respects, it is mercy that he has left us. He is truly at rest now.”Senior blames boxing for Simon’s tragic death, choking back tears as he reveals his brother battled frontal lobe dementia, and had son Harlem feeding him with a baby bottle in his final days.He tells SunSport: “My son probably walks around at around 180lbs and he has to boil himself down to 160lbs.“People don’t understand what it means for Junior to get down to 160lbs, at his age. They don’t understand the drying out.“Junior is now 35 and trying to get down to 160lbs and I know what that feels like. I know about the dehydration and the damage it does to fighters.’It will be a car crash'”I am more concerned about that than anything else. I don’t want my son getting down to 160lbs. And that is why I have spoken about people trying to murder my boy by boiling him down to 157 lbs.”He adds: “I would be in my son’s corner if he was fighting at the right weight. But it mocks everything I stand for and fought for.”I am his dad and the fact he has chosen not to listen means all I can do is step back and watch the car crash – because it will be a car crash.“He doesn’t understand that this is boxing and you lose your faculties, this is dangerous.”Eubank Jr’s promoter Ben Shalom also reiterated to SunSport that the original fight scheduled for 2022 “should never” have been at 157, though he maintains his fighter will make weight at 160lbs on Friday’s weigh-in.Read More on The SunCourtesy of a rehydration clause in the fight deal, Eubank Jr can only weigh in at a maximum of 170lbs at a 10am weigh-in on Saturday morning, hours before he takes to the ring in one of the most fiercely anticipated British fights in years.Watch Sun Sport’s full preview of Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn – with former world champion George Groves, Chris Eubank Sr and Harlem Eubank – on our YouTube channel. Chris Eubank Jr MISSES weight for Conor Benn fight and set to pay huge fine to rival ahead of huge showdown

CHRIS EUBANK JR is set to pay a massive fine directly to Conor Benn after missing weight by just 0.05lb ahead of their fight.Eubank was due to arrive at 11am but had still not showed up past midday for the weigh-in – leaving Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn fuming.Conor Benn weighing in to fight Chris Eubank JrCredit: X formerly Twitter / @ringmagazineSunSport understands Eubank was using the time to trim the extra weight off to try to hit the contracted 160lb allowance. At his first attempt, he scaled 160.2lb before his second and final go saw him tip 160.05lb – missing the mark by an agonising 0.05lb.For context, that is the same weight as an AA Battery. It means Eubank will have £375,000 deducted from his purse per the rules in their contract – with the cash going directly to Benn.READ MORE IN boxing Benn celebrated his unexpected windfall by posting a cheeky clip of the “Show me the money” scene from the Jerry Maguire film. The fighter himself grinned as he said “Show me the motherf***ing money”.Benn had earlier weighed in surprisingly light at 156.4lbs – nearly 4lb under the middleweight limit.Much has been made of the fight weight heading into the second-generation grudge match. Most read in BoxingThe born rivals first signed for a 157lb catchweight clash in 2022 – causing controversy with Eubank having NEVER fought that low. Any way I want to. “It’s not about strength and speed and age and weights. All the things you guys love to talk about. “It’s about dedication, it’s about who’s paid their dues and who’s done it clean. Who’s dedicated their life? Sebastian passed away in 2021 – leaving behind his son Raheem. Eubank said: “The weight is painful. I’m in pain right now. “I’ll be in even more pain tonight and tomorrow morning. But the question I ask myself is what is pain?”I have a 31-year-old brother, he is buried in the desert in Dubai, that’s pain. “His son Raheem, three years old, he asks ‘Why can’t I see my daddy? Why can’t he take me to school?’ That’s pain. “My own father, a man I idolized for my entire life, we don’t speak, he thinks I am a disgrace. These things are what pain is to me.Read More on The Sun”If I can deal with all of these trial and tribulations, then the weight cut, the rehydration clause, they are not an issue.”Eubank opened up on the weight cut at the press conferenceCredit: PA More

Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City prediction: Free betting tips, odds and FA Cup semi final preview

NOTTINGHAM FOREST and Manchester City face-off at Wembley on Sunday for a place in the FA Cup final.SunSport have enlisted the help of their betting experts to preview the semi showdown and select the best bets, tips and exclusive sign-up bonuses from our leading betting partners.Find The Sun’s betting publishing principles hereNew sign-up offersSunSport exclusivesNottingham Forest vs Manchester City previewTwo teams battling it out for a chance at an FA Cup final and two sides with memorable campaigns. For Nottingham Forest, a chance at a Wembley final and qualification to the Champions League would be beyond their wildest dreams. For City, it’s memorable for all the wrong reasons.Incredibly, just one place and one single point separate these two sides in the Premier League, with both embroiled in a chase for the Champions League with a couple of other sides. That’s the main aim for both sides but they must also be all-in on this chance to win silverware – the only opportunity for either side to clinch a trophy this season.Back-to-back defeats to Aston Villa and Everton looked to be damaging for Forest’s Euro hunt but a convincing win at Spurs on Monday night very much keeps them alive. For City – above Forest by a point having played a game more – they’ve recaptured their form, ironically since Erling Haaland’s injury.Five wins and a draw in their last six games – including a huge league win in midweek over fellow UCL chasers Villa – show City are in fine fettle heading into the closing stages of the season. As per usual…Only this time there is no late run for title glory, instead a top-four push and this solitary trophy.Forest won the last meeting between the sides in March, thanks to a late Callum Hudson-Odoi goal.First scorer and correct score predictionsCorrect score: 0-2 at 15/2 with Betfred – HEREFirst scorer: Kevin de Bruyne 15/2 with talkSPORT BET – HERENottm Forest vs Man City latest oddsNottingham Forest at 18/5 with William Hill – CLAIM HEREOdds are correct at the time of publication and are subject to change. How to claim..William Hill £60 welcome bonusVisit the William Hill website HERE*Register an account using the Promo Code: T60Once your account is registered, click ‘opt in’ on the ‘Vegas Promotion’ pageDeposit a minimum of £10 in your main account to receive a £20 Vegas Bonus for use on Selected GamesThen place a bet with a minimum stake of £10 at odds of 1/2 or greater on any football marketOnce that’s settled, your account will be credited with £40 in free betsWilliam Hill: Claim £60 welcome bonus – click here*Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City predictionsYellow warning Neco Williams playing as a full back against these Manchester City wingers will almost certainly know he’s in a game. He’s only picked up five yellow cards in the Premier League but was also booked in the previous round of this competition. It’s also actually two yellows in his last five games and he can play on the edge at times.Neco Williams to be carded at 13/8 with Betfred – CLAIM HEREStalemateForest’s 39 goals conceded is only bettered by Liverpool and Arsenal, and they have the lowest goals scored in any of the top seven sides.Matz Sels has the most clean sheets in the Premier League and he and his Forest defence will want to keep things tight here.No goals in first half at 23/10 with William Hill – CLAIM HERE*William Hill. 18+.
