Yet to score for his country, he sure enjoyed his penalty and the relief was there for all to see.

    FLOWING
The beers are rightly flowing in the away dressing room at the Red Star Stadium.
But it also appears the showers are starting to flow too.
Got to assume McLean is waiting to jump in the shower, and it isn’t his usual celebration attire….

    LOOKING AHEAD
Now Scotland have booked their place, attention turns to next summer’s tournament where the Tartan Army will be present for the first time in a generation.
The tournament is currently set to be spread across several nations in Europe, with plans to move it to one country being talked about whilst the continent tries to deal with the health pandemic.
But how will the tournament shape up, and when do they kick-off?
What teams will be in Scotland’s group?
Scotland will face off with the Auld Enemy in next summer’s Euros.
Clarke’s men will play England in Group D of the tournament.
The Scots will also play World Cup finalists Croatia, with familiar Nations League foes Czech Republic making up the group.

Where will the games be played?
All ties in Group D will be played between Hampden Park and Wembley – with both arenas among the 12 host venues.
Scotland’s opener will be against Czech Republic at the national stadium.
The Tartan Army will then look forward to a trip down south to play England at Wembley.
The final group encounter with Croatia will be played at Hampden.
There are 12 host cities for Euro 2020 including Glasgow and London.

What dates will the matches be played on?
Scotland’s Group D opener against the Czechs will be played on July 14, with a 2pm kick-off in Glasgow.
They will then have four days to prepare before locking horns with the English on July 18. The game at Wembley will start at 8pm.
The final group tie with Croatia, to be played at Hampden, will also kick-off at 8pm on July 22.
There has been widespread speculation that Uefa will order a complete overhaul of the competition due to coronavirus with Russia being suggested as the sole host nation.
The Tartan Army will be praying that doesn’t happen and the nation gets to host two games – plus head down south for a meeting with the Auld Enemy.

    DECCY DELIGHT

    SCENES IN THE DRESSING ROOM
Don’t think this will be the last tune played tonight….

    GAFFER DELIGHT
Scotland boss Steve Clarke admitted he may have a little cry in his room later after guiding the nation to next summer’s Euros.
The former Kilmarnock boss revealed he was rather calm at full time and heaped praise on his side.
Clarke always believed Scotland would get there and is thankful that more people have turned the corner and are behind the national team.
Speaking after tonight’s victory, Clarke said: “Normally we fall at the final hurdle, or we have the glorious failure.
“We were the better team in the game and deserved to be in front but just couldn’t get the second goal to kill them off.
“The equaliser was a big setback, but after the character shown you have to be so proud of the players in how they responded to that.
“We managed to dig in in extra time and get to penalties and we have produced again from the penalty spot.

“It is a magnificent night for everybody in Scotland.
“I hope the fans back home enjoyed the night as much as we did in Belgrade.
“When they came off at the end of 90 minutes, they were very disappointed after conceding so late.
“We reassured them they were the better team and to get back to what they were doing before.
“We have spoken a lot since the low spot in Moscow, the players were determined to get there.
“We have shown we are building great character in the squad, and we are always positive.
“Last month, people started to believe, and we didn’t let them down.
“I’m actually remarkably calm and thought I would have a little tear.
“I had a glint in my eye when Marsh made the save but I managed to keep my emotions in check!”
“I might a little cry in my room later!”
“It is great for Scottish football and gets us back on the map.
“Next summer will take care of itself.”

    MAN-BYS
DAVID MARSHALL was the Scotland hero as his penalty save saw Scotland end 22 years of pain.
The Derby keeper saved from Aleksander Mitrovic in the shootout to secure the Scots’ place at next year’s European Championship finals.
After so many glorious failures, this was the squad which finally got them over the line and back in the big time.
SunSport’s Derek McGregor runs the rule over Steve Clarke’s heroes.

    TEARS OF JOY
This is the moment that Scotland hero Ryan Christie broke down in tears of joy after the shootout win over Serbia sealed the nation’s Euro 2020 dream.
The Celtic star fired Steve Clarke’s men into a 1-0 lead in the second half and looked certain to have sent the Scots to a first major tournament in 22-years.
However, subbed off late, Luka Jovic netted a last-minute header for the Serbs, sending the game to extra time.
Scotland held on after enduring some big periods of pressure and David Marshall was yet again the penalty hero for the nation.
He palmed away Mitrovic’s spot kick to end a generation of failure, hurt and anguish.
The whole country are emotional – and the Scotland stars were no different.

    LEAD THE WAY
Lyndon Dykes has endured quite the rise in the last two years.
The QPR forward was playing in the Scottish Championship with Queen of the South not that long ago before his move to Livingston in the top-flight.
Now, he has become an integral part of Steve Clarke’s side.
Dykes had a big choice to make whether to turn out in dark blue or choose his native Australia.
But Dykes believes he has made the ‘best decision of his life’ in choosing Scotland.
He said: “It is amazing, this is what I wanted to come to Scotland and try and do.
“Just to be a part of it with the boys and the gaffer and it’s one of the biggest things in my career – and my life – that I will remember forever.
“It was nerve-racking [watching penalties], I can see why a lot of managers lose their hair quick!
“We made it hard for ourselves at the end there, but we just dug deep and got through to penalties and big Marsh with the save. Just absolute scenes after that.
“The Euros is where Scotland should be.
“Now the players that are going to be playing in those games need to show how good Scotland are and that we belong in that tournament.
“Tonight has been amazing and once we get there we can prove to the world that Scotland is a great nation and that is exactly where we should be.
“So far international football has been great; I haven’t lost yet!
“I’ve enjoyed every moment and the players and gaffer have been great.
“It has been the best decision of my life to play for Scotland, and I just love it!”

    MATCH REPORT
What a night for the Scots in Belgrade.
Two minutes away from qualification in normal time before Jovic snatched a late equaliser.
They were under the cosh for much of extra time before seeing it out to penalties.
David Marshall again the hero for Scotland, saving Mitrovic’s kick.
Our man Robert Grieve was at the Red Star Stadium and you can read his match report here

    THE CHRISTIE GOAL
It seems a lifetime ago now, but here is Ryan Christie’s goal to put Scotland ahead on the night.

    CAPTAIN MARVEL
Andy Robertson revealed he was up next in the shoot-out, but his hamstring was cramping in extra time.
Thankfully for Scotland, we didn’t find out if Robbo was able to step up and take a pen.
An emotional Robertson said after the game: “I don’t think we can sum it up just now.
“So much emotion going into the game to then get so close and they end up equalising.
“You then need to pick yourself up for extra time, which we did without creating much.
“When you go to penalties you always back Marshy and it is just whether the other lads can hold their nerve and they have managed to do it.
“We have come so far as a squad and I’m proud of every one of them up there as they have been through a lot; a lot of criticism and negativity at times.
“We have stuck together and battled through it and hopefully everyone back home can see the positives because we are absolutely delighted.
“We were comfortable, it was actually one of the best away performances I’ve been involved in with Scotland.
“We started the far better team and second half we were far better.
“Unfortunately, we just lost the man for the equaliser, but it shows you the strengths to come back from that.
“Now we have the night we deserve.
“The lads taking penalties were unbelievable.
“What a night, emotionally it is so much. My God, they boys are something else.
“We look forward to the summer now.
“I’ll say every sort of prayer I have to have a full Hampden because we will feel it, we felt it coming out here.
“We all look forward to the summer now.”

IT’LL BE A QUIET ONE TONIGHT

SCOTLAND ADMIN WILL BE HAVING A FIELD DAY WITH THESE TONIGHT…

    UNBELIEVABLE SCENES

    THE HERO
David Marshall is Scotland’s hero once again after his penalty heroics.
The keeper has had to bide his time behind some great Scottish goalies, but he is now the man that has helped take Scotland to the Euros.
Speaking after the game, he said: “It was never going to be easy.
“We had to see out two or three minutes at the end, and then to come back the way we did.
“The first hour of the game we were completely dominant, and the second goal was just not coming.
“I’m just lost for words at how well the lads turned that pressure around once they got the equaliser.
“The manager, players, Robbo speaking, it just changes the mentality.
“The last three or four games we have gotten that belief of winning games and keeping clean sheets but I don’t know how we done it; but we deserved it.
    “I’m just so happy.”

    HARD WAY
It’s all over! Scotland will take their place at the Euros next summer.
David Marshall the hero again saving from Mitrovic.
Unbelievable scenes as the players and coaching staff celebrate on the pitch.
22 years of hurt is over. Scotland are on their way!

Argentina 1-1 Paraguay LIVE RESULT: Messi winner controversially ruled out by VAR as Paraguay hold out for draw

LIONEL MESSI was denied a winner by VAR as Argentina dropped points for the first time in World Cup qualifying.
Visitors Paraguay went ahead after Angel Romero dispatched a penalty earned by Sergio Almiron.

But Nicolas Gonzalez then headed the Argentines level just before half time.
In the second half Lionel Messi put the ball into the net but VAR ruled the goal out for a foul earlier in the play.

    THAT’S ALL FOR NOW
Plenty of football still being coverage across the week as international football takes centre stage.
If you’ve enjoyed the coverage of the South American World Cup qualifying group stage, we have more of it tomorrow when Brazil take on Venezuela!
If you’re interested, tune in from 11pm tomorrow night.
    Have a good one!

    OTAMENDI SPEAKS
Speaking after tonight’s frustrating draw with Paraguay, Otamendi said: “I think that in the first half we were a bit uncomfortable.
“When we encouraged ourselves to have more the ball, we were in their field.
“The sensations are rare, we tried and tried to be organized but the victory did not come.
“Lo Celso entered very well. Everyone knows that each one is important in the National Team.”

    SWEET FEET
Lionel Messi thought he won all three points for Argentina until VAR intervened.

    FULL-TIME STATS
Argentina continued to dominate the proceedings, maintaining their 69 per cent hold on possession.
The hosts managed to get 15 shots off, but only 1/3 of them were on target.
Paraguay managed to register two more shots in the second half, with one of those testing Armani between the sticks.
    Argentina made 627 passes to Paraguay’s 292!

    FT: ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
It ends all square in Buenos Aires.
Argentina thought they had the winner when Messi slotted the ball past Silva after being picked out by Lo Celso.
VAR spotted something wrong with the goal in the build-up and the goal was chalked off leaving the hosts furious.
Paraguay posed very little threat in the second half, but their defensive display deserves recognition.
The backline of Rojas, Balbuena, Gomez and Alonso, managed to keep one of the greatest of all time very quiet.
Aswell as clearing anything and everything that came within 20 yards of Silva’s goal.
    Both sides share the spoils.

    PEEEEEEP!
    THAT’S FULL-TIME!
    IT ENDS ALL SQUARE!

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    92. Messi walks up to the free-kick and smashes the ball into the wall. Another poor free-kick from the captain.
He tries to win the rebound but loses out to Alderete.

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    90. Messi takes the ball off his team-mate Parades to drive Argentina forward, he gets to the edge of the penalty area before being bundled over.
We’re into the first minute of the additional five at the end of the second half.
Messi is standing over the free-kick and it’s well within his range!

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    87. Rodrigo Rojas has come on for Paraguay replacing Gonzalez.
Antonio Sanabria is also on to replace goal-scorer Romero – some attacking changes by Eduardo Berizzo.

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    83. Di Maria works some space on the edge of the penalty area, the No11 decides to have a crack on his favoured left foot but his effort fizzes wide of the near post.

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    82. Alario of Bayer Leverkusen is on for Lautaro Martinez in the final eight minutes or so.

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    80. We’re into the final ten minutes and it’s all square.
Neither side has found a breakthrough to grab all three points, it’s been mostly one-way traffic in the second half with Argentina dictating play.
Paraguay, however, have been well drilled and organised and if they grab a point, it’s fully deserved.

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    76. Messi bursts into space down the right flank, he cuts inside onto his favoured left foot but he is instantly shut out by Alonso and Gomez.
Paraguay break up the other end and Montiel hacks down Almiron before he can break into the penalty area.
Montiel receives a booking for the tactical foul.

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    74. Perez wins the 50-50 with Gonzalez before going clean through on Parades – awful challenge.
He’s booked for the challenge, could easily have seen red.

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    73. Paraguay are making a double change with Villasanti and Lezcano making way for Morel and Perez.
Will we see someone take all three points? Just over 15 minutes left to find out.

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    OFF THE BAR!
    71. Messi tries to pick out the top right corner but he ends up crashing his free-kick off the top of the crossbar!
    Ever so close!

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    70. Messi zips a first time pass into the feet of Lo Celso, Gomez comes in hard from behind conceding a free-kick.
This is well within Messi’s range. 25 yards from goal.

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    69. Messi drives towards the edge of the penalty area, he slips the ball into the feet of Lautaro Martinez who works some space and manages to get a shot off but it doesn’t trouble Silva.

    VAR SAYS NO
Argentina thought they took the lead through Messi, VAR had something to say about that!

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    65. Di Maria is on for Ocampos and he immediately makes an impact.
He cuts inside off the right flank and plays a wonderful cross right onto the head of Lautaro Martinez who can only steer his header into the arms of Silva.

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    63. Neither side have managed to find a breakthrough so far in the second half, but Argentina have posed the bigger threat and look the more likely to grab a goal.
The hosts have already seen one chalked off this half and they’ll be looking to keep up their 100% start to their World Cup qualification.

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    62. Messi twists and turns 25 yards from goal, he tries to get his head up and get a shot off but he is immediately swamped by three Paraguayan shirts.
The visitors have done a good job of keeping the No10 quiet tonight.

    ARGENTINA 1-1 PARAGUAY
    61. Gonzalez goes on a powerful run down the touchline, he knocks the ball past Villasanti but Rojas was quick to get across and stick a foot in.

Here’s the goal that has got a whole nation dreaming!!!

    PENALTIES – SERBIA 4 SCOTLAND 5
ALEKSANDAR MITROVIC HAS MISSED!!!! SCOTLAND HAVE DONE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    PENALTIES – SERBIA 4 SCOTLAND 5
Great from Kenny McLean who guides the ball into the top corner

    PENALTIES – SERBIA 4 SCOTLAND 4
Aleksandar Katai finds the top corner, just outwith the reach of Marshall who went the right way.

England 3 Ireland 0 LIVE REACTION: Three Lions waltz to easy victory as Jude Bellingham makes debut – latest updates

ENGLAND came out on top of their clash with the Republic of Ireland tonight at Wembley Stadium thanks to goals from Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
    RESULT: England 3-0 Ireland
Maguire, Sancho and Calvert-Lewin notch for Three Lions
    Jude Bellingham makes England debut
Follow ALL the reaction with our live blog below…

    THAT’S A WRAP
Thanks for joining us this evening.
Don’t forget to take a look at our match report here.

    TWO MORE OUT
There are two more players who Gareth Southgate will be unable to call upon for England’s next two meetings.
Conor Coady is having to self-isolate, having come into contact with someone who tested positive.
The Wolves defender tested negative but he will miss England’s next fixture.
Marcus Rashford will also miss England’s meeting with Belgium and Iceland after picking up an injury while playing for Manchester United against Everton.

    BOSS SPEAKS
Gareth Southgate says: “I think considering we had a lot of young players and inexperienced players, we used the ball well and created a lot of chances.
“We could have been even more comfortable if they’d have taken some of those chances, but I thought we played well.
“I think we were a bit slow at the start, but that’s understandable as it’s a team that haven’t had a lot of time together.
“But as it went on, the play between out attacking players and wing-backs worked well.
“Jadon [Sancho] and Jack [Grealish] have the freedom to go either side of the pitch and create overload and I think they did that well and caused them problems.
“There are a lot players in the squad and there are real competitions for places.”

    NOT KEANE ON THAT PERFORMANCE
Ireland are now without a goal in their last five matches in all competitions.
It’s their longest run without scoring since another run of five between November 1995-May 1996.
Speaking about Ireland’s performance this evening, Roy Keane said: “There wasn’t even a booking tonight, they need to be more aggressive.
“I think England would have had tougher training games than the game tonight, so there’s a long way to go for Ireland.”

    JACK SPEAKS
Speaking on ITV, Jack Grealish says “It was obviously good to get my second start, I thought we controlled the game well and it was good to get the win.
“I’ve been trying to score more and get more assists- I obviously got the assist for Jadon which I’m happy about, but I know I could have scored this evening and provided more assists, but I’m happy with our result.”
On learning from the more experienced England players in the squad and the manager, Grealish says: “I think coming here and training with these guys, day-in-day-out for two weeks, has really stepped up everything in my game.
“Watching Harry [Maguire], Jordan Henderson, [Raheem] Sterling train has been great, I really have learnt stuff from them and I think it’s really helped me.
“I want to play as much as possible, all I have to do is try and impress the manager as much as I can.
” He’s been brilliant with me on and off the pitch, telling me what he wants to do, so finger’s crossed.”

THREE GOALS FOR THE THREE LIONS

Young Bellingham looks to be taking off his coat on the side-line too, could the 17-year-old make his debut wearing a number that’s the same as his age?

    ENGLAND 3-0 IRELAND
    69. Elsewhere, Northern Ireland are now drawing 1-1 with Slovakia after an own goal from Skriniar!

    ENGLAND 3-0 IRELAND
    67. Keane unexpectedly picks up the ball at the top of the six-yard area, kicks it up in the air once before swivelling and hitting it on the volley.
It flies low towards the right post where Abraham races to meet it, but he can’t quite get his outstretched leg to it.

    ENGLAND 3-0 IRELAND
    65. Razor-sharp delivery from Saka into the centre of the six-yard box.
Maguire is up to greet it, but is an inch or so away from the ball and it flies out for a goalkick.
Randolph remained flat-footed on his line there.

    ENGLAND 3-0 IRELAND
    65. England win a free-kick about 35 yards out on the left.

Portugal continued the onslaught and things went from bad to worse for Andorra.
Bernardo Silva danced his way into some space inside the penalty area, he tried to pick out Ronaldo with a low cross but Garcia managed to get a toe to the ball poking it into the back of his own net.
Ronaldo finally scored after missing an absolute sitter minutes earlier, which left the Andorran keeper speechless.

    RED HOT CHELLI
Zak Chelli just too spicy for Mike McGoldrick to handle so soon after his appetizer in the semi-final..

    ROUND TWO – WINNER CHELLI!
Chelli just too big, poweful and fresh.
The 22-year-old batters McGoldrick into the canvas again and he takes another eight count.
But he is dropped again by an instant body shot and, even though he beats the count, referee Bob Williams correctly waves it off.
A reall one-sided and virtually inhumane pasting for McGoldrick who had been in a real war less than half hour earlier.

    ROUND ONE
    McGoldrick down in the first.
Chelli crashed in around a dozen savage right hands and, even though McGoldrick caught most of them on his high huard, they must have rattled his skull around.
Eventually a crunching hook to the head broke the camel’s back and the Cumbria man took a knee and an eight count to briefly escape the barrage.

    FINALE
Mike McGoldrick returns to the ring for the BOXXER super-middleweight final.
Will he still be warmed and primed from his recent semi-final win or will he still be blowing from the three-rounder?
Zak Chelli joins him, the Fulham man has had the longer rest, since his nine-minutes of semi-final action, but has he gone cold in the break?
One way to find out… please begin fighting…

    MEMORIES
Heavyweight Nick Webb won a BOXXER tournament and this super-middleweight show is bring it all back for the big man…

    THE AL-BANG-IAN KING

    FOLLOW THAT
Florian Marku has almost 450k Instagram followers for a reason.
The ex-MMA fighter just scored three knockdowns inside one whirlwind BOXXER round.
Muma Mweemba was thankfully stopped after the third and most brutal decking.
Marku is now 7-0 and must be close to a high-profile opponent soon…

    BLINK – MISSED IT
Mweemba is getting oxygen in his corner as that Marku performance was utterly breathless.
Marku’s shots sounded so thunderous but Mweemba seemed to be blocking them early on.
A looping body shot was the first knockdown, a second swiftly followed after another blitz attack but Mweemba told his corner he was fine.
The third was a vicious left hook that crumpled Mweemba into the blue corner.
Marku has been calling high-profile welterweights like Conor Benn for a while, will this seventh win help?

    ROUND ONE – ALL OVER!
Sheffield based Mweemba starts the fight with a 4-1 record.
TNT Marku is 6-0 as a pro boxer but as enjoyed hundreds of MMA wins all over Europe.
Marku floors his opponent with a booming bodyshot that almost blows Mweemba through the ropes and out of the ring.
Mweemba is down again and then poleaxed a third time!
Massive KO win for Florian Marku.

    MARK-ED MAN
Albanian welterweight ace Florian Marku up against Muma Mweemba now.
Marku appears to be wearing a tradition Balkan-style hat to the ring, not the sort of thing I could get away with.
Hats, sunglasses and bumbags a real no-no for a man with my figure. Shame really cos all three usually look great together.

    VERDICT
Zak Chelli should win the final easy as he will have had the longest rest?

Great fight! This is Chelli’s tournament now. Tough semi final with a short rest for Mcgoldrick
    Great show!! @ultimateboxxer
    — Maree Boxing (@KevinMaree) November 10, 2020

    BOUNCEBACKABILITY
Young Harry Woods will come again after that close encounter.
Mike McGoldrick just a bit to wise and sharp when it mattered.

    FINAL REVEALED
Red-hot favourite Zak Chelli will face Mike McGoldrick next after the judges scored it 29-28, 30-27 and 29-28 all against Harry Woods.
A brilliant fight that should boost both men into bigger fights.
    Should Chelli be worried?

    BANGING BOXXERS
You couldn’t get a fag paper between Mike McGoldrick and Harry Woods during those three rounds.
The rock-hard super-middles met in the centre of the ring, locked horns and slugged it out…

    ROUND THREE
    Brilliant dogged Mexican-style fighting here.
Woods and McGoldrick like conjoined twins, stuck at the chest, slashing away and bludgeoning each other.
head to body, body to head, a crisp jab from McGoldrick is the first straight shot to score for yonks.
Woods throws a looping left hook and falls over. Thrilling end to the fight.
Shame the judges have to split that. Both lads slung everything at it.

    PICK ‘EM
Mike McGoldrick and Harry Woods are not hiding from anything it anyone…

A Bukayo Saka own goal and an Ollie Watkins double have put the Villans 3-0 up in a match which has also seen Thomas Partey go off injured.

    THAT’S A WRAP
What a way to cap off Remembrance Sunday! Plenty of goals, just the way we want it.
Time to get some much needed rest.
    Have a good one!
    GOODNIGHT!

    ARTETA SPEAKS
Arteta spoke after his sides disappointing loss: “First of all, congratulations to Aston Villa for the way they played and the victory and after that obviously, we performed below out standards.
“And I have to say that since I am the Arsenal manager, this is the first time I’ve seen us play and we weren’t a team.
“I take full responsibility, we didn’t start the game well enough, we got away with a decision, VAR, because of the offside situation.
“But straight after that, we lost all the races, all the duels, we were sloppy on the ball.
“And when we created the chances to score, we didn’t even hit the target.”

    TABLE CHECK
Arsenal drop to 11th, Villa move up to 6th and they’re three points off the top spot WITH a game in hand!

    OZIL TWITTER REACTION
Mesut Ozil can only watch on from the sofa, but the fans clearly want him back in the squad.
Take a look at some of his likes on twitter.

    SUBS RATING
    Ceballos (on 45) – 3
Cleared it off the line in the second half but contributed little else.
    Nketiah (on 63) – 4
Barely got into the game and didn’t even manage to test Martinez in the Villa goal.
    Pepe (on 63) – 5
Unlucky with an excellent curling effort five minutes after coming on.

    MIDFIELDERS & ATTACKERS
    Thomas Partey (off 45) – 6
Showed glimpses of quality with his range of passing, particularly spreading it to team-mate Aubameyang on the left. Let down by a lack of options in midfield especially with a lack of No10 playing ahead of him. Cool and calm in possession but came off injured at half-time.
    Mohamed Elneny – 4
Lots of energy in midfield but positionally was caught out and was closely marked by Ross Barkley. Struggled when Partey went off at half-time having to cover so much ground to himself.
    Bukayo Saka – 2
Looked lost in the first half capped by an own goal having been caught on his heels. He fell asleep allowing Trezeguet to beat him to the ball and stuck his foot out in an act of desperation.
More lively in the opening part of the second period but his head dropped when the second went in.
    Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 2
Another disappointing showing out on the left side – he didn’t even register a shot all contest.
Every time he had the ball at his feet he was on the touchline and not making a nuisance of himself in the box.
Little surprise that he still hasn’t scored at home this season. Arteta must find a way to get him scoring again.
    Willian (off 63) – 3
Anonymous in the first period, offering little going forward. Had a chance early in the second but dragged it way wide, summing up his evening.
Hooked off midway through second period and will be fighting to keep his place in their next outing.
    Alexandre Lacazette (off 63) – 4
Missed a glorious chance with his head to bring Arsenal level on 40 minutes. Could have proved crucial heading into the second period with the scorelines level.
Felt sorry for him for large periods as he had little service from the wide men.

    ARSENAL PLAYER RATINGS
    Bernd Leno – 5
Had little chance with Villa’s three goals but made a decent stop to deny Trezeguet early in the second half.
He made another terrific save to deny Grealish but was let down by his defenders tonight.
    Hector Bellerin – 2
Had a torrid time marking Grealish – the England star will give him nightmares for weeks.
The overlap by Matt Targett caused him issues throughout with Villa doubling up on the left.
Looked good going forward in the first half but appeared exhausted in the second and Villa milked it for all it’s worth.
    Rob Holding – 2
Struggled to deal with the psychicality of Ollie Watkins in attack.
Most attacks came down his side with Grealish and Barkley’s interchange causing him problems.
Was identified as a weakness and Villa exploited it perfectly.
    Gabriel – 3
Really poor in possession, giving the ball away needlessly on a few occasions. Heart in mouth moment when knocking it back to his keeper.
Wasn’t close enough to Watkins for Villa’s third.
Enjoyed a decent start to his Arsenal career but not one of his finer games.
    Kieran Tierney – 5
Delivered a number of excellent crosses and should have had an assist if it wasn’t for Lacazette’s poor header.
Defensively sound with most of Villa’s attacks coming down the left.

    MISSING MAN
Might have to file a missing person’s report for someone of the name Alexander Lacazette.

Lacazette has had fewer touches in the Aston Villa half than Rob Holding.

    GOAT
    AGREED.

    CONCEDING DEFEAT
It appears Piers Morgan mocks his old friend President Donald Trump!

    GOAL SCORER
Ollie Watkins has scored six goals in seven games for Aston Villa in the Premier League this season – only Dean Saunders (7) and Dion Dublin (9) have ever netted more in their first seven appearances for Villa in the competition.

    FULL-TIME STATS
    Take a look at this.
The touch map of Aubameyang, Lacazette AND Willian (left), compared to Villa’s attacking players (right).
    Arteta will be FURIOUS.

    FT: ARSENAL 0-3 ASTON VILLA
Watkins strikes twice to sink the club he supports!
Villa walk away with three massive points, a real statement of intent, a display of real strength from Dean Smith’s men.
Arsenal didn’t really pose a threat on Martinez’s goal, Villa outworked them over every blade of grass.
    Gareth, PLAY GREALISH, PLEASE!

    PEEEEEP!!
    THAT’S THE FINAL WHISTLE!!
VILLA HAVE DONE IT, WHAT A WIN!!

    ARSENAL 0-3 ASTON VILLA
    90. Back to the drawing board for Arsenal, they’re limping over the final whistle – they’ve been given a good hiding.
Three additional minutes at the end of the second half.

    ARSENAL 0-3 ASTON VILLA
    88. Pepe goes down just outside the penalty area and he wins his side a free-kick.
It’s in a very promising position, with Willian off the pitch, I suspect Pepe will step up and take it upon himself.

    ARSENAL 0-3 ASTON VILLA
    87. Grealish wins another foul, this time off Bellerin.
the break in play allows Villa to make a change, El Ghazi is on replacing Trezeguet.

    ARSENAL 0-3 ASTON VILLA
    85. Grealish makes it look so easy, he’s not blessed with pace compared to the likes of Sterling.
It’s the decision making in the final third which puts him above the rest, his ability to ride challenges and keep the ball so close to him is second to none.

    ARSENAL 0-3 ASTON VILLA
    83. Gareth, I hope you’re watching?
    If you don’t start Grealish……

    ARSENAL 0-3 ASTON VILLA
    82. Targett does well to get his body in the way of the ball by his own corner flag, he invites the challenge from Bellerin and he wins his side a free-kick.

    ARSENAL 0-3 ASTON VILLA
    81. Tierney tries to feed the ball straight into the feet of Aubameyang but his first touch lets him down.
It’s been a difficult night for the Arsenal captain.

    LOYALTY’S DEAD
Arsenal fan no more! Watkins is at the double against the club he’s grown up supporting.
    Arteta looks out of ideas.

    Credit: Getty Images

    ARSENAL 0-3 ASTON VILLA
    77. Barkley glides inside of Bellerin, he drives towards goal and sends a shot crashing off Holding and behind for another Villa corner.
Fabulous play from Villa, they’re in the hunt for a fourth!

    ARSENAL 0-3 ASTON VILLA
    76. Arsenal look out of ideas, they’re pushing men forward but when it comes to the final ball they’re clueless.

    ARSENAL 0-3 ASTON VILLA
    74. Martinez sets Grealish off running down the left-hand side.
He gets to the edge of the penalty area and feeds Watkins in on goal, he gets his head up and slots the ball through the legs of Leno!
Unbelievable. Villa are playing Arsenal off the park at the Emirates!

THE top two sides from the last two seasons meet in a huge clash as both Manchester City and Liverpool set out to regain their unstoppable runs of form in that time.
Liverpool lead the table but have not looked their usual selves with narrow wins over Sheffield United and West Ham.

City have won six from eight since their alarming defeat against Leicester but many would argue they too have more to give.
Man City take on Liverpool at 4.30pm.
Man City vs Liverpool is live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
To stream the game live, head to your Sky Go account.
Non-Sky Sports subscribers can watch with a Now TV Day Pass from £9.99.
Man City XI: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo; Rodri, Gundogan; Ferran, De Bruyne, Sterling; Jesus
Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Gomez, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum; Jota, Firmino, Mane; Salah

    BEAT THE CHAMPS
City succeed when up against the title holders – but only when that doesn’t mean Liverpool.

9 & 0 – Manchester City have won nine of their last 10 Premier League games against reigning champions, however, they’ve won none of their last 11 when facing Liverpool as the previous season’s title winner (D2 L9). Titans. #MCILIV pic.twitter.com/jWlXAJpEin

    TOP SPOT FOR THE TAKING
The final whistle has just gone at the King Power Stadium where Leicester City’s 1-0 win against Wolves has taken them to the top of the Premier League table.
The Foxes are the third team to enjoy the summit this weekend following Southampton on Friday evening and Tottenham Hotspur, who won at West Brom earlier today.
However, a Liverpool victory this afternoon, and it will be the Reds who go clear in first place, one point ahead of the Leicester side managed by their former boss Brendan Rodgers.

    THE ETIHAD AWAITS
Now we’ve had confirmation of the teams, the stage is set for the two best sides in the country.
    Kick-off is in 35 minutes.

    CITY TRIO SET TO SHINE
Much has been rightly made of Liverpool’s front three (now front four?), but there is a lot to be excited by when looking at Manchester City’s attacking trio of Ferran Torres, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling.

    CARRA CAN’T BELIEVE IT
Does this mean a change of shape for Liverpool, or will Jota slot into a midfield three?

    LIVERPOOL SUBSTITUTES
    13 Adrian, 7 Milner, 8 Keita, 17 Jones, 23 Shaqiri, 27 Origi, 47 Phillips.

    LIVERPOOL XI
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota all start for Liverpool! That’s the surprising news to take from Jurgen Klopp’s selection as he makes two changes after their thumping away win at Atalanta. Rhys Williams is replaced in defence by the returning Joel Matip while Curtis Jones drops to the bench to allow Roberto Firmino’s return. The suggestion is this will mean the visitors line up in a 4-4-2 formation, but don’t be surprised to see a 4-3-3 shape with Jota deeper in midfield.
    1 Alisson, 66 Alexander-Arnold, 32 Matip, 12 Gomez, 26 Robertson, 14 Henderson, 5 Wijnaldum, 11 Salah, 9 Firmino, 20 Jota, 10 Mane.

    MANCHESTER CITY SUBSTITUTES
    13 Steffen, 5 Stones, 6 Ake, 11 Zinchenko, 20 Bernardo Silva, 47 Foden, 50 Garcia.

    MANCHESTER CITY XI
Pep Guardiola makes five changes to the Manchester City side that saw off Olympiakos in midweek. Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte return to the centre of defence in place of John Stones and Nathan Ake while Joao Cancelo is in at left-back ahead of Oleksandr Zinchenko. Rodrigo gets the nod in midfield instead of Phil Foden while Riyad Mahrez is rotated to enable Gabriel Jesus’ return. The Brazilian leads the line of a 4-3-3 formation with Ferran Torres moved to the right.
    31 Ederson, 2 Walker, 3 Dias, 14 Laporte, 27 Cancelo, 17 De Bruyne, 16 Rodrigo, 8 Gundogan, 21 Torres, 9 Jesus, 7 Sterling.

The boys going into battle! 💪

    THE TEAM SHEETS ARE IN!

    PEP’S KLOPP LOT
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has lost more games (8) against Liverpool’s Jürgen Klopp than he has against any other manager in his career.

    WEATHER WITH YOU
Surely a 42% chance of rain is positively tropical for Manchester?

    LIVERPOOL LEAKING LOTS
Injuries to the likes of Alisson, Joel Matip, and, of course, Virgil van Dijk have caused upheaval to Jurgen Klopp’s defence this season, and so it may be no surprise to learn that the Reds have conceded 15 goals in their seven Premier League games so far – one more than bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United.
It took the champions 26 games to concede as many last season, and it is the most goals that the Reds have conceded in their opening seven league games since the 1964-65 campaign.

    KLOPP’S COMEBACK KIDS
Liverpool have come from behind to win their last two Premier League games, defeating both West Ham and Sheffield United 2-1 at Anfield.
Indeed, since the start of last season, no Premier League side has won as many as Liverpool’s 28 points from losing positions..
The Reds have never won three consecutive Premier League games having conceded the first goal, with Arsenal the last team to do so in March 2012.

CITY VISIT LOOMS LARGE FOR LIVERPOOL
Despite Liverpool seemingly having the better of the head-to-head between these two clubs in recent years, when it comes to Premier League trips to the Etihad, the last few have caused them some concerns.
Manchester City have won their last three home league games against Liverpool by an aggregate score of 11-1, including a 4-0 thumping in July when the visitors had already been crowned champions.
City have not won four consecutive home league games against the Reds since March 1937.

    GOOD AFTERNOON FROM THE ETIHAD
Welcome to our live coverage of the Premier League game between Manchester City and Liverpool.
It’s the clash of the season so far as the two previous champions of England meet with the expectation that it will be them again who fight it out for the title in 2021.
Neither club have begun this campaign with the swagger we’ve become accustomed to, and so this contest takes on extra importance despite its early scheduling.
City currently occupy the bottom half of the table, but are finding form with six wins and two draws from their last eight games in all competitions.
Sergio Aguero is out injured again, but Gabriel Jesus made a goalscoring return to action in the Champions League on Wednesday, and may be rewarded with a start today.
Despite the injuries, wobbles and odd humiliation that have hampered Liverpool’s title defence, a win in Manchester today would take them clear at the top and eight points ahead of their opponents.
Thiago and Fabinho are still missing alongside long-term absentees Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. However, Joel Matip’s timely return to fitness should bring some security to a backline that is being breached too often.
Little thought has been given to the Reds’ reliable attack while Jurgen Klopp has been patching together his defence, but the impact made by Diogo Jota since joining the club may have made him too impressive to ignore – especially given Roberto Firmino’s lack of goals this year.
The action kicks-off at the Etihad at 4.30pm and we’ll bring you confirmation of the two teams shortly.
